Chapter 307

Tracey had a first-aid kit at home. Mable took her temperature. It was at 101.3 degrees Fahrenheit.

Mable made Tracey chicken soup before giving her something for the fever.

“Have you been crying, Tracey?”

Sitting by the bed, Mable observed Tracey’s puffy eyes and asked.

Mable could tell Tracey was feeling down. Tracey was a cheerful girl, barely showing her low-spirited side.

Tracey rubbed her eyes. Her voice was hoarse. “No. My eyes feel irritated from the cold, so I teared up.”

Mable sighed and shuffled her hair. “Your eyes are puffy and swollen. Did you think I couldn’t tell?”

Tracey pressed her lips tightly together, fighting back the sadness.

Mable held her hand. “Did something happen?”

Knowing that she could not hide her emotions from Mable, Tracey replied in a muffled voice, “It’s nothing, really. I told Arthur how I felt about him under the influence, and he turned me down. I just feel a little sad.”
