Joseph would be hosting a grand party in two days to celebrate his seventieth birthday. Since he had taken the trouble to deliver an invitation card in person, Mable knew better than to refuse. She politely took it and nodded with a smile. “Mr. Joseph, the pleasure is all mine. No matter how busy, I will go to your birthday party."Joseph gave her a sincere look. “Come earlier. I’ll introduce you to some important politicians in Fasier.” “Sure. Thank you, Mr. Joseph.” Mable gestured for her people to walk Joseph out. After Joseph was gone, Solomon took the invitation card from Mable and studied it with a frown, “Is it just me, or has Joseph taken some sort of interest in you? As if coming to visit you in person isn’t enough, he even brought you an invitation card to his birthday party.” Amos nodded. “I feel the same way.” They had a feeling that Joseph was being particularly attentive toward Mable. Mable thought for a moment before remarking, “Maybe I just remind
Mable sharply cut Adam off, “I don't believe it!” She declared pointedly, “When it comes to this matter, the only one I will believe in is myself and the love Blair had for me. I will not believe anything you guys tell me!” “What if we are telling the truth? Are you going to consciously choose to deny it?” “I would rather believe that the ‘truth’ you guys tell me are lies!” Mable clenched the phone and stated soberly, “There are no absolutes in this world. How can you be so sure that the truth you speak of is true?” Adam did not know how to respond. Mable pressed him, “Do you get what I’m saying?” “Yeah.” Adam grunted and remained silent for a few seconds before finally stating, “In that case, I wish you nothing but good luck.” His voice was filled with sincerity. Mable did not respond and promptly hung up on him. Suddenly, a thick silence descended upon the world. She tossed her phone aside, got up, and headed to the balcony. She was just about t
In Richworth. After wrapping up the call with Amos, Blair put someone on the task of investigating Joseph. He had known Joseph for many years. Based on what he knew, Joseph was not the outgoing sort who would take the initiative to make friends. This was the first time he had met Mable. Why would he be so attentive toward her? Not only did he make a point of visiting her in person, he even invited her to his birthday party. It was something completely uncharacteristic of him, which was why Blair deemed Joseph had ulterior motives. Blair had always exercised caution whenever it concerned Mable. Tracey could notice Blair’s especially solemn expression and advised faintly, “Just like Amos says, he will be accompanying Mable to the part with Solomon. Nothing is going to happen. You shouldn’t have to worry about it.” Blair did not respond and looked down at his legs. On the day he woke up, he ignored the doctor's advice and went to see Mable, which ended up aggrav
“Mable, you haven't even eaten lunch. If you keep going on like this, your body is going to give out. Even if you don’t have any appetite, you need to eat something at least.” “Mable? Mable...” Suddenly, the door opened. Mable gave Solomon, who stood outside a door, a faint look before stating calmly, “Solomon, I’m thinking of eating out. Why don't you come with me?" "Sure, let me get changed first."Solomon assumed Mable wanted to go out to clear her mind and did not suspect anything else. Besides, it was better that he tag along rather than let her head out by herself. He proceeded to get changed and then headed out with Mable and March. He drove while March sat in the passenger seat. Meanwhile, Mable huddled by herself in the back seat. Mable looked out the car window and would sneak glances at Solomon from time to time. It suddenly occurred to her that though Solomon may seem crude on the outside, he carried himself with remarkable composure and was fairly comp
Solomon’s eyes widened. It took him a while to compose himself. What the hell! Was Mable thinking about marrying someone else? “Mable, you… you don't mean to…” Mable gave him a faint look and expressed with a candid smile, “Yeah, I figured I could use a new husband, and the kids could use a stepfather.” Solomon nearly spat out the cup of tea he was drinking. His eyes grew so wide that it was as if his pupils would fall out of their sockets. Was his ears playing tricks on him? Was Mable not deeply in love with Blair? Why would she be thinking about remarrying? “Mable, it… Are you drunk by any chance?” What a lot of nonsense! Mable frowned. “Do I look drunk to you? Solomon, I'm being serious!” Solomon cast another dumbfounded look before slurring, “But... it hasn’t even been a month since Master Blair passed away. You…” Mable cut him off and stated solemnly, “There’s no use lingering in the past. The only way is forward. I’m so young and still have man
“Blair's feelings for me might have been the effect of the Necro Poison as well. Since it causes the male and female base to be drawn to each other, it explains why we were so in love. In other words, if you were the one who carried the male base inside you, we would have been mindlessly in love with each other too,” Mable said. Solomon slammed the table and shot up from his seat. “That is completely ridiculous!” It was clear that he did not believe in Mable's rhetoric. Mable eyed Solomon indifferently and stated plainly, “Many strange things happen all over the world.” Then, she declared, “Now that Blair is dead, the effects of the male base have worn off, and I no longer feel so strongly about him anymore…” “That is Impossible! Listen to me, Mable, Rory and the others were trying to deceive you!” Solomon immediately retorted. None of what she said added up. Even if Necro Poison did possess such an effect, Mable’s feelings for Blair would not have possibly weakened si
After Mable returned to her bedroom, she clenched her phone tightly and waited patiently for a call. Judging by what she knew of Solomon and Blair’s relationship, she wagered that there was no chance Solomon would not relay today’s conversation to Blair. One thing about Blair was that he was very prone to jealousy. There was no way he could hold his tongue if he found out about her wanting to get remarried. It would be just as Solomon described—the coffin would not hold him. Even if he was truly dead, he was going to resurrect himself and burst out from under the ground. She sat on the couch with her knees tucked in and stared at the display of her phone agitatedly and expectantly. Inside her mind, she continuously rehearsed what she was going to tell Blair once he called. Should she ask if he was hurt first? Maybe she should rant about him lying to her. She could also question him on why he refused to meet her even after knowing she had recovered her memories…
With that, Mable called Joseph. As soon as the call connected and before Mable could speak, Joseph spoke, “Hello, dear Mrs. Fowler.” Mable was taken aback. How did Joseph know it was her when she had barely spoken? Perhaps he had her phone number? She decided not to think too much of it and greeted him, “Hello, Mr. Joseph…” Then, she began by apologizing for not being able to attend his birthday party. Although Joseph was a little disappointed, he was still a rather sensible man and did not attempt to press the issue. “Since you have important things to handle, it’s perfectly fine. It’s just a birthday party anyway. No big deal.” Mable felt relieved upon hearing this. After a few brief exchanges, she hung up. ... Amos had to remain in Fasier to tie up a few loose ends. Meanwhile, Solomon and Mable flew back to Richworth together. It was a more than ten-hour flight from Fasier back to Richworth. It was hard to be stuck inside the plane for so long.
