"What's wrong with them?"

Blair noticed something unusual about the two children and asked Mable in a hushed voice.

Mable smiled and replied, "It's nothing. Kids sometimes have tantrums; they'll be fine in a while."

Nicki, who was drinking soup, glanced at Spike beside her. Then, she picked up a chicken wing and put it on his plate. Spike looked at the chicken wing in his bowl, and his face, which had been cold all afternoon, finally showed a hint of a smile.

After dinner, Mable asked Nicki and Spike to take Lemon to the garden to play. It did not take long for the sounds of laughter from the three children to fill the garden.
