Chapter 6 Marrying the Lockwood's Son (Part 6)

Author: Ann1
"It's your wedding with Christiano," Vallerie answered. Seeing how confused Adeline was, she explained, "As you probably know, I only have a grandson. His name is Christiano, and he got into a car accident two years ago. Now, he's in a vegetative state. But don't you worry, he'll definitely recover when you marry him!"

Adeline frowned at what Vallerie said, "But, I—" Adeline swallowed her direct disagreement. Instead, she put it in another way, "It's a little sudden. I haven't really given a thought about it yet."

Helen, who was sitting on the other side, chuckled and said, "Adeline, the Lockwood family is well-respected. Plus, Madam Vallerie has come to propose this marriage arrangement in person. You should see it as a blessing to be able to marry Mr. Lockwood."

Blessing? Adeline snorted.

Her gaze fell on Helen, who was smiling. At that moment, she wanted to stand up and question Helen that if she thought that it was a blessing, why didn't she let Zoey marry Christiano.

However, Adeline held it back. She saw the worry and helplessness in Ronald's eyes. Perhaps, everything had been planned, and she was the last to be informed.

Adeline took a deep breath as she thought of Sebastian and Zoey and said, "Okay, I'll marry him."

Everybody's gaze fell on Adeline. Vallerie gently patted Adeline's hand and took out a box from her bag. Under everyone's eyes, Vallerie opened the box.

It was a jade bracelet, which was white and flawless like suet, but it had a glowing sheen to it.

"What a fine piece of white jade!" commented Helen, and a trace of jealousy flashed across her eyes. She looked towards Adeline and said, "Adeline, look, Madam Vallerie really likes you!"

"Come, Adeline. Give it a try!" Vallerie called. She helped Adeline to put on the jade bracelet, nodding pleasingly, "It's so beautiful!"

"Mom, this is your favorite piece of jewelry. Adeline is lucky to have it," said Martha. Vallerie let go of Adeline's hand and drew their conversation to a close, "Now that it's decided, we should have both of you betrothed in a few days. I've checked, the ninth of October is nice, so let's set the wedding on that day."

Although Vallerie sounded like they were here to ask for consent, Adeline knew they came prepared, even with a date in mind.

Once the conversation ended, all of them stood up and bid their goodbyes. Vallerie headed out with Martha's supporting.

While Nicholas, nodding in agreement, exchanged a few words with Ronald. Then he looked deeply at Adeline before he turned to leave.

The living room went back to its normal stillness. Helen looked at Adeline and sneered, "It seems like luck is on your side. You're going to marry Christiano Lockwood!"

"Aunt Helen, if you think it's a good deal, I'm willing to let Zoey take my place and marry him," Adeline glanced at Helen and replied calmly.

"You—" Helen wanted to retort but immediately shut her mouth when she saw Ronald returning to the living room. She went upstairs, leaving the dispute unfinished.

"Adeline..." Ronald looked at Adeline. All he could do was just looking at her with immense guilt, as if the words were stuck in his throat.

"Dad, it's okay. I know what you want to say. I'm doing it willingly. Plus, the Lockwoods is such a distinguished family in Caulford City, so I don't have the shorter end of the stick for doing so."

Ronald had a mixed feeling about what Adeline said. Looking at her eyes, he said, "I didn't know they would come to propose... The company hasn't been doing well recently..." Ronald rubbed his hands together and felt even guiltier.

With a faint smile, Adeline nodded her head. She took Ronald's hand in hers, and soothed, "Don't worry, Dad. I know." "Adeline, I owe you and your mom too much." "Dad, don't you say that. I-I don't even have a boyfriend anyway. And eventually, I'll need to get married. Living with someone who is in a vegetative state is better than someone with bad intentions." Unsure of what Adeline was implying, Ronald nodded his head heavily. "Since you're getting married, you can consider quitting school. There's no need for you to continue your studies." When she heard what Ronald said, Adeline immediately voiced out, "Dad, I don't want to stop studying! I want to continue." Ronald shrugged powerlessly. He looked spiritless and said weakly, "It's not that I'm stopping you from learning. The Lockwood family expects the girl that marries Mr. Lockwood to keep a low profile." "Dad, don't worry. I'll talk to the Lockwood family about this. It's late now. You should r

"I was reading Jane Austen's 'Pride and Prejudice' last night and got carried away. That's why I overslept. I'm sorry that you had to see me like this," Adeline explained. Hearing that, Martha looked at Adeline with admiration, and she said, "It's a classic. I heard from your father that you major in arts?" Adeline nodded, "Yes, I'm studying performance arts. I really hope that I can continue with my studies after I'm married. I know that this career will bring criticism, but I really do enjoy acting." As soon as Adeline finished speaking,  Zoey's voice rang from the front door, "Mom, Dad! I'm home!" Noticing the strange look Martha gave, Helen immediately said, "That's my younger daughter, Zoey. Growing up, she's always this bubbly. Adeline is different. She's gentle and graceful!" "Cheerful girls are nice!" Martha said. Then, she stood up, and continued, "Since I've already brought the betrothal gift here, I'll leave for now. We'll send a car over to pic

"You—" Zoey raised her hand in a rage. But before she could lay it on Adeline, a voice shouted from behind her, "Zoey, what are you doing?" Zoey turned to see Ronald. She immediately said wittingly, "Dad, I'm just messing around with Adeline." Adeline gave a smile to Ronald, and she responded with a similar answer, "That's right, Dad. We were playing around. But now I'm going back to my room to take a nap." "Adeline!" Ronald stopped Adeline and walked towards her, "Since you're visiting the Lockwood family tomorrow, you should go and buy some clothes for yourself. Just buy whatever you like and consider it your wedding gift." "There's no need for that, Dad. Aren't we financially struggling recently? I really don't need to buy anything." "The Lockwood family has given us a lot of gifts, which are rightfully yours. Plus—" Ronald trailed off. He had a lot to say, but he stopped himself and just looked at Adeline lovingly. Adeline nodded, and she s

"Sure. Whatever you said," Adeline glared at Evelyn in annoyance. But she wasn't really mad at Evelyn. "You've done enough shopping for today, but now my stomach is grumbling." Evelyn stuck out her tongue and said sheepishly, "Let's go and get some food then." At the Calories Restaurant... The two of them chatted while walking hand in hand into the restaurant. They found a table at a quiet corner. "Good day, miss. What would you like for today?" The waiter handed them the menu and asked politely. "What do you want to eat, Adele?" Evelyn pushed the menu to Adele's front. "Evelyn, you should order. I only want a medium steak," Adeline ordered and turned to look at the outside of the window. Evelyn took a deep look at Adeline, picked up the menu, and ordered two of their favorite dishes. "That'll be all!" Evelyn closed the menu and said to the waitress with a smile. "Adele..." Adeline turned around and looked at Evelyn. Wit

Two awful-looking men stood in front of Adeline in the alley. When they saw Adeline alone, a lewd smile broke on their faces. Adeline had never encountered a situation like this before. She started to tremble, and she subconsciously took a few steps back.   One of the men called out, "Young lady, you must be lonely walking on your own. Why don't we accompany you?" They walked towards Adeline with blades in their hands. "Wh-what are you both trying to do?" As Adeline realized the men were coming nearer towards her, Adeline turned to flee. "Help!" "Help!" Before Adeline could run far, one of the men caught her and put his blade at Adeline's neck. "B*tch, don't try anything stupid. You should be thankful that we had our eyes on you. Be good and listen to us. That way, we won't hurt you." Adeline was mortified, and tears streamed down from her eyes. "Sir, please let me go! If money is what you want, I can give it to you. I'll give you a

At the VIP suite in one of Caulford City's premium hospitals. "No! Don't touch me!" Adeline frantically waved her hands around. Her face was etched with a frightened expression and covered in tears. "Mom, save me! Mom, don't go." Ronald was heartbroken to see his daughter in this state. Tears swirling in his eyes, he grabbed onto her frantically-moving hands and gently patted them. He choked, "It's all my fault, Adeline. I didn't take good care of you. You're suffering now because I didn't take care of you." Ronald had always felt that he owed Adeline a lot because all these years, he had been busy with his company and neglected her. Besides, Adeline had always been obedient and sensible, which was why Ronald had the impression that she was happy. Ronald's heart ached as he saw Adeline curled up on the hospital bed. The sight brought him immense pain, and he found it hard to breathe in it. He tucked his face into Adeline's hand and wept softly.

"There's no way in h*ll I'm taking care of that b*tch," Helen hung up the phone and sneered. "I didn't mean to pry, but as the lady of the house, why are you being so petty with the girl? Didn't you say that she will marry Christiano in a few days?" A lavishly dressed wealthy lady commented. The more Helen thought about it, the more annoyed she became. In the end, she waved her hand goodbye and said, "I'm leaving now. Let's meet again when we're free." Then, she picked up her handbag and turned to leave. Roland stood outside for a little while. After regaining his composure, he slowly walked back into the wardroom. Then, he saw Adeline was sitting at the corner of the bed, holding the quilt in her hand, and her expression blank. He immediately went forward to her. "What's wrong, Adeline? Why aren't you resting?" Noticing the exhaustion on Ronald, Adeline felt sorry for him and said, "Dad, I want to go home. I'm feeling fine now. Can we go home?"

A few days later. It was the wedding day for Christiano, the son of the Lockwood family, and Adeline, the daughter of the Simpson family. Early in the morning, there were already police directing traffic. Everybody knew that Adeline's marriage to Christiano was to bring him luck. Rose petals filled the air as they were scattered down from a helicopter. Balloons and bubbles floated along in the sky. With dulcet wedding music playing, a wedding without the groom was about to begin. Adeline sat still in the dressing room while the makeup artist spruced her up. Adeline's delicate facial features, peaches-and-cream complexion, soft luscious red lips that looked kissable, coupled with the pure handmade exquisite wedding dress, made her absolutely stunning as though she was an otherworldly fairy. As she studied herself in the mirror, Adeline felt bitter because this was a wedding she never wanted. "Adeline, today is the big day for you. I wish you and Christiano

"Xiaowan..." Christiano yelled at the top of the mountain. His sorrowful voice lingered around the valley for a long time... A year later... The Lockwood family in Caulford City was the wedding day of Sandrino and Gu Xiaobei's wedding. Almost all the influential people in the business world were present. The wedding was very lively. When Gu Xiaobei heard that her big belly was slowly showing up, Sandrino hurriedly went up to her and said, "Didn't I tell you to stay in your room? Why did you come out?" "Is it really boring to stay in the room? Besides, it's my wedding today. As a bride, of course, I should come out and have a look!" Looking at Gu Xiaobei, who was like a wild horse that had broken free from its reins, Lu Yangzhe's face was full of helplessness and love. A year ago, the trap of the Huya Mountain was destroyed. Adeline, Bai Qian'er, and Alice were all missing. Lu Yang was seriously ill. Bai Ye and all of Kaiser's followers were a

"What's wrong with you?" Seeing that no one was talking, Gu Xiaobei just looked at her stupidly. "Adele, your president is..." "It's my dad!" Before Bai Ziqi could finish her words, she was caught by Gu Xiaobei. "The reason why Brother Lu's case can be found out so quickly is also because of you?" "Not entirely. I just mentioned it to my father when I went back, but he said that it was a matter of your country. Because it didn't involve other countries, he couldn't show up. Just when I didn't know what to do, I suddenly sent an email, which was full of crimes committed by Queen Yea over the years. Because the crime committed by Queen Yea has seriously affected many countries, my father asked people to investigate it. What followed is what you saw." Gu Xiaobei's words were very relaxed. Bai Zixi sighed and said, "No wonder. I was wondering why the U.S. was so straightforward this time. It turned out that there was someone behind it." As he

Maybe it's because of the poison barrier here. But now you have taken the herbs that specialize in treating the poison barrier. It's all right." "Sorry to have caused you so much trouble." As he struggled, Adeline saw Bai Ye and the European Emperor confronting each other with guns. "Bai Ye, you actually dared to secretly bring Su and the others here behind Queen Kaiser's back. Are you trying to steal those treasures for yourself?" Bai Ye sneered and looked at the Ou Emperor, saying, "Emperor Ou, since you found out, I'm not afraid of you knowing. What can you do to me if I want to monopolize those treasures, or are you willing to be a dog around her?" "Bai Ye, Queen Kaiser treats you well. Don't you think you're ungrateful?" Hearing this, Bai Ye laughed out loud.

Early the next morning, Adeline and the others were woken up by the sound of gunshots. "What happened?" Alice opened the zipper of the tent and walked out. They saw that their tent had already been surrounded by Bai Ye's men. Soon, they knew what was going on. However, soon after, the gunshots came to an abrupt end. Adeline didn't seem to mind at all, only tightly holding Little Dong in his arms. "It seems that some people can't wait to start." "Xiaowan, do you think Ling Yu and Tang Qi will be discovered by them?" There was a strong smell of blood in the air. Luo Luo said with some fear. Compared with Alice, he was calmer. He comforted her and said, "Don't worry. Since they know our purpose, they won't act on their own." "Luoluo, you have to trust Ling Yu." "Yes." At this time, Xie San's voice came from outside the tent. "Xiaowan, get ready. It's time to go." Xie San's voice was low and deep, very pleasant to listen to.

"Since he is leading the way, let's take him with us!" Adeline pulled the child to his side and glared at the two men with an ugly expression. "Then I'll have to trouble you, Miss Simpson." "Time to go!" Looking at their backs, the man next to Bai Ye said unhappily, "Why is Old Master so partial to her?" "Whether we can find the treasure or not depends on them. Let's follow them for the time being." How could someone who had accomplished great things care about these trivial matters? "Sister, I want to go home." As soon as the little boy got rid of the men's hands, he cried loudly. Adeline knew that Bai Ye would never agree to let him go. The reason why she took him to her side was that she hoped that she could take more care of him along the way. "I'm sorry, little brother. This sister helped you temporarily, because she was caught by them just like you." "Don't worry. Staying with us is better than staying with those p

Taoping Town was an ancient town. It was surrounded by mountains and beautiful scenery. Perhaps because of the natural environment, all the people here lived a particularly happy life. Young people would go out to adventure, and some old people would stay in the estate left by the ancestors of the guardian. Perhaps it was because of the special environment here, and there were often grave robbers here. However, the appearance of so many people this time made the people of Tanping Town a little scared. Everyone would stand at the door of their own houses and look at those people. "Grandpa, what are these people doing here?" A little boy looked up at the old man standing beside him and asked in a low voice. "No matter what they are doing, it has nothing to do with us anyway. Let's go inside." "Are they here for the baby tiger?" As soon as he finished speaking, the old man covered his mouth in a hurry, and his face changed slightly. He scolded angrily,

Three days later, Adeline followed Bai Ye to Yaoping Town, but he didn't see Bai Lang. At this time, Tang Qi and the others, who had been waiting for Adeline in Tanping Town, had already received the news that Adeline had come in. "What should we do now?" After confirming the location of Adeline's residence, Tang Qi and the others gathered together to discuss how to rescue him. Suddenly, an uninvited guest came from outside the door. "Seventh Young Master, long time no see?" She walked in slowly with graceful steps and greeted Tang Qi with a faint smile. "Rumor has it that Young Master Rong isn't feeling well all year round and has been resting at home. I wonder what brought you here?" "Of course it's you." Hearing this, Tang Qi suddenly smiled. "In the past few days, you might be able to appease the employees of the company. You don't need to keep those who want to resign too much. What our Lu Enterprises needs is people who can fight to the death with the company, not people who run away when they are in trouble." "But big brother, there have been too many things happening in the past two years. If we do this again, won't it cause public disgust?" "In the end, Lu Yangzhe was still a little worried. After all, the power of public opinion is too great. It's okay for the country to be affected, but it'll be more difficult for foreign subsidiary companies and famous brands to rise again once they are seriously injured." "You have to remember that the reputation of a company is very important, but his quality is even more important. If everyone only likes this brand instead of the quality of our product, then it doesn't matter if you don't want such a customer." He, Christiano, wanted to do the best work.

Zi Yao has the ability to see all kinds of things, and his English is better than mine." Jiaqi, who was standing by the side, seemed to have forgotten the unhappiness she had just had. She saw Lu Ziyan sitting in front of the computer table, looking particularly handsome. Her beautiful eyes were full of pride. It was as if she was the only one who had done it. "Do you all know each other?" Obviously, Bai Ziqi's words shocked both Bai Ziqi and Xu Ran so much that they couldn't even say a word. Was this still a three-year-old child? Why did they have a feeling that the sky was about to change? After making sure that Lu Ziming was fine, Bai Ziqi and Xu Lulu left the room, ready to inquire about Christiano's situation.
