Chapter 12 Marrying the Lockwood's Son (Part 12)

At the VIP suite in one of Caulford City's premium hospitals.

"No! Don't touch me!"

Adeline frantically waved her hands around. Her face was etched with a frightened expression and covered in tears.

"Mom, save me! Mom, don't go."

Ronald was heartbroken to see his daughter in this state. Tears swirling in his eyes, he grabbed onto her frantically-moving hands and gently patted them. He choked, "It's all my fault, Adeline. I didn't take good care of you. You're suffering now because I didn't take care of you."

Ronald had always felt that he owed Adeline a lot because all these years, he had been busy with his company and neglected her. Besides, Adeline had always been obedient and sensible, which was why Ronald had the impression that she was happy.

Ronald's heart ached as he saw Adeline curled up on the hospital bed. The sight brought him immense pain, and he found it hard to breathe in it. He tucked his face into Adeline's hand and wept softly.

Adeline heard someone whimpering next to her, but she didn't know who. She opened her heavy eyelids to see Ronald crying as he held onto her hands. The sight stung Adeline's heart.

"Dad."

Ronald raised his head immediately when he heard Adeline's call. No time to wipe his tears off, he said happily, "Adeline, you're awake."

"Dad, what's wrong? Why are you crying? Did something bad happen?"

"It's nothing. I'm just happy that you're awake. These are tears of joy," He said as he wiped away the tears with his hand.

Adeline knew that her father was crying because he felt guilty for not taking good care of her. Growing up, other than her mother's accident, she had never seen Ronald shed a single tear.

"Dad, I'm fine. Don't worry. Everything will be alright soon," Adeline smiled and consoled him.

Ronald's expression brightened a little when he saw that Adeline looked better. He wanted to ask Adeline what happened but, in the end, he didn't.

Adeline saw how Ronald held back his words. She felt that she should tell him everything so that it wouldn't worry him.

"Dad, do you know who made the phone call to send me to the hospital?" Adeline asked softly.

"I don't know. I only knew that you were hospitalized after I received a call from the hospital. The person must know us because the hospital called my cell phone directly."

Ronald's confusion was evident on his face. If it was someone they knew, he should have left his name. However, it was clear that the caller wanted to remain anonymous.

"Adeline, since the caller doesn't want us to know, let's not think about it. You should rest more. I'll give Helen a call."

Watching Ronald leave the wardroom slowly, Adeline felt guilty for making him worry.

"Who saved me?" Adeline recalled what happened before she passed out, and she remembered seeing a masked man saving her. "But who is he?" Adeline wondered.

......

"Hello, Helen. Adeline is hospitalized. Ask Rosa to make some chicken soup for her. I'll get someone to bring it over later," Ronald ordered.

"I'm busy. I'm shopping with Mrs. Lee and Mrs. Taylor now. Call home yourself," Helen replied to him impatiently.

"OK."

Then Ronald raised his head and looked at the sky. He wondered if marrying Helen right then was the correct thing to do.
