Chapter 126

Author's POV

"If it isn't the cheap whore," She scoffed and approached Dexter with her fake sweet smile that I itched to slap off her face. There were two reasons I didn't make a move at her: I was pregnant, and she also saved me from having to explain who Leonardo was.

"Honey, you've got to stop calling me cheap if you want to get your salary for this month. And after you're done with whatever reason you came here for, you come to me. I haven't used your services in a while." I concluded my statement with a smirk and her eyes turned red.

Apparently, she had forgotten that I intentionally made her work under me so that I could make her life miserable. The only reason I loosened the iron grip I had on her was because I'd been overwhelmed with work.

"Call her a whore again and you'll join Liam where he is." He thundered, averting his attention from me.

I liked that he stood up for me. I liked how his nose flared, and how his eyes darkened into a deeper shade of bro

Chapter 127Author's POV She decided in her heart that Melissa would go through the same fate Lorraine went through, all she needed was time to sort out Liam's case. Since Dexter couldn't give her a listening ear, she had to go on with her father's plan or her secret would be out. She dialed Leonardo's number and stomped on her foot on the ground, waiting for him to pick up. He finally answered the call at the second ring. "Did he listen to you?" Leonardo asked almost nonchalantly. "No, he didn't. That Melissa bitch was there with him, maybe that was why he didn't give me a good response. I've told you that we need to eliminate the witch because she has disrupted my relationship with him." She said and Leonardo chuckled over the phone. "You have my permission to end Liam, but in your quest to keep your secrets hidden, do not hurt Melissa until I'm done with her. Do you get me?" He warned her, his voice stern and void of any hint of playfulness. She didn't like his decisi

Chapter 128Melissa I walked into the dimly lit room where the meeting I'd made arrangements for was to hold. I was impressed to see Mr Han, Mr Manor, and Mrs Gonzales, sitting patiently and waiting for me. The meeting was a secret one, that was why we used one of the hotels that belonged to my father. "Good evening, everyone. How are you all doing?" I greeted them, receiving their warm hand shakes. "I'm fine and really excited to be here." Mr Han said with a formal tone. Mrs Gonzales gave me a hug and I patted her at the back. She had a certain way of looking at me as if she had so much to make up for. I itched to tell her that it wasn't her fault, but that was after the meeting was over. "Let's get to the topic for the evening. First of all, I'd like to apologize for missing yesterday's meeting. I suddenly fell ill when I got to the venue and I had to be rushed to the hospital." They didn't need to be explained to since I was basically their boss, but if they were to fully

Chapter 129Dexter My fingers grazed over Lorraine's number and I smiled. The urge to call her almost all the time, just to know how she was doing was slowly consuming me but I didn't mind. She was carrying my child and I had to make sure that she was safe, no matter what. Just when I thought that fate was against us, it proved me wrong by bringing us back together again in the most unexpected manner. I could imagine her stomach growing bigger and popping through her dresses. I could imagine her swapping her well-tailored suits that made her look chic and bossy at the same time, for nice looking maternity dresses that she'd need to feel comfortable. My mind gradually created pictures of how chubby she would be when her stomach got bigger. Since I returned from work, I decided to relieve myself of stress by watching pregnancy videos and I'd learnt more than I did when Emilia was pregnant. At least I'd have the opportunity to lift her stomach when it gets really big and heavy, and

  • Marrying My High School Bully   Her father's reaction

Chapter 130Melissa My father strode across the living room to welcome me. Every time I visited him, he acted like he hadn't seen me in ages, hugging and planting kisses all over my face. Though we were separated from each other, I liked that years of separation didn't affect our bond. I loved him so much and I couldn't wish to have another man as my father. "I missed you so much, Honey." He pressed me hard to his chest and planted a kiss on my forehead. "You forgot about your old man, huh? I'm not happy." He whined, pouting his lips. His cute method of guilt-tripping me cracked me up. "I'm so sorry, daddy. I've been so swamped with work and today I made a decision that I would visit you, and here I am." I was still contemplating on when to tell him about my pregnancy. I didn't even know if I should tell him that Dexter was the father, but then I figured that he would put two and two together. "I can't wait for you to expose those bastards so that we can have a father-daughter v

Chapter 131Author's POV Her triumphant smile widened the moment she got to her father's mansion. She couldn't wait to share the news of her success with him as it was the first time she had done something so perfectly, apart from the time she poisoned Lorraine. She barged in and ran to her father, hugging him in excitement. He patted her back and she slid off his body and relaxed on the upholster. "I take it that your mission was successful, right?" He grinned widely while she nodded in agreement. "You trained a smart ass. Did you expect less from me?" "No, I don't, Emilia. We need to celebrate this." He said and headed to the wine cellar, and brought out a bottle of red wine with two glasses. Now that she had successfully killed him, she would proceed to Melissa who had become a thorn in her flesh. Never again would she allow anyone to get close to Dexter. She had framed Lorraine because she wanted to be with him, she murdered Liam because she didn't want her secrets getting

Chapter 132Dexter. She gently sank onto her chair, knowing that she was ignorantly giving herself away. How could I have been blind to not see through the innocent facade? "What are we still talking about, Dexter? I really want to go home and rest." She whined, but I wasn't going to give in to her demand. I made her uncomfortable and I liked that she was reacting the way I wanted. "Don't you want to know how it happened?" I asked almost quietly and she nodded with hesitation. "I...I think I deserve to know what happened to him." She shrugged, her eyes fixed on the table. "According to what I was told by the inspector, he was stabbed to death probably by the last woman who came to visit him. She was caught on camera, about the same height as you. Unfortunately, her face was hidden and she wasn't blonde so I'm forced to believe that it was someone else." I stated calmly and she sighed in relief. "Oh, so you know that and you keep accusing me of murder? I might be crazy but not

Chapter 133Melissa Returning home to find Dexter standing in front of my apartment was the last thing I expected, but I couldn't deny how sexy it felt to find the man you loved surprising you with a visit. "Good evening, Dexter. Why didn't you tell me that you wanted to come over? I'd have cancelled my appointments." I scolded him gently. "I'm sorry, Mel, I came to see you since you have decided that you want nothing to do with me." He replied, his countenance sullen. My heart was struck, but I kept my expression stoic as I didn't want him to know that he was getting to me. "I didn't do that on purpose, Dexter, I've just been so busy with work but I promise to make it up to you." "That's alright, but my visit is going to be brief." I dipped my hand into my bag, and produced the smart card and swept it over the fob. "We won't have this discussion outside. I'm already filled with guilt that you had to stay aside till I returned, so don't add it, please." He hesitated, but then

I thought I'd apolosed before?" He said and I rolled my eyes. I got out of the car, a little pissed that I had to be late to the exhibition because of my father's car that strangely developed issues on the road. The story would have been different if I came directly from my apartment, but the big man gave me no breathing space as he became unnecessarily overprotective. "Let's just go." I said when he got down as well. The lights, emanating from the cameras of most journalists, who had come to air the program flashed at me. I knew that I looked the part, dressed in a mermaid black velvet dress with long sleeves that stopped at my wrists. My auburn hair was curled into bouncy waves and gathered to my side, but what I didn't expect was being fawned over by men and women alike. Funny enough,

Chapter 160ONE YEAR LATER "You look so ravishing," Mrs Gonzales cupped my made up cheeks and planted a kiss on my forehead. "Thank you, aunt." I beamed with a smile as the veil was set on my head while she left the room to attend to something else. Aunty Rosa, as I fondly called her, had become a part of the family. I made her the CEO of my company as she was more than capable of being a leader, and also, I wanted to compensate her for everything she did for my mother. I was fine with being a consultant and when she was ready to retire, I'd take over. Since we moved to Colorado, my life with Dexter had been all shades of fun. The happiness I craved for after losing my mother was restored, and never did a day pass without me thanking the universe for granting me my wishes. And today, after five months of having my twins; Nyla and Brian, I was ready to walk down the aisle and experience what a beautiful wedding felt like. I stood in front of the mirror and stared at how wel

Chapter 159Melissa I peered down at Dexter's sleeping face and sighed. Doctor Luca had constantly assured me that he would be fine, but I was yet to understand why he hadn't woken up already. If Leonardo had succeeded in killing him, I'd have resurrected his dead body and murdered him myself. Actually, I low-key wished that I was the one who shot him, but it didn't matter anymore because he was dead and gone. Staring at the tubes connected to his body caused goosebumps to cover my skin. He was in the situation because of me. My mind wandered as several thoughts filtered in and out of my head. Lilly had come earlier with Mary to visit him, but even her presence couldn't stir him up. No! He couldn't remain this way forever. He had to wake up. I took one of the chairs in the ward and sat beside him, entwining our fingers while I used my free fingers to caress his face lightly. He was still the most handsome man I'd ever seen, even in unconsciousness. "Cupcake, how are you

Chapter 158Melissa Blood drained from my face as the bullet went straight to his chest, causing him to slump on the ground. Leonardo pushed Lilly away and tried to break into a sprint, but he was gunned down by the cops who opened fire on him until his body was filled with bullet holes. If Dexter wasn't lying on the ground in the pool of his own blood, I'd have been rejoicing that the source of all my troubles was dead, but the sight of him in a lifeless state snuffed out any trace of happiness within me. "Get the ambulance, please!" I roared, my heart plummeting as blood gushed out from his mouth. I held his hands, my tears forming a wet mask on my face as I caressed his head. His eyes were shut, but I refused to believe that he was dying. I sat on the ground and placed his head on top of my neck, then I tore the hem of my dress and dabbed his chest with him to reduce the rate of the blood flow. All the while I did that, my heart skipped several beats and my fingers trembl

Chapter 157Dexter"You need to come back home now, sir, Leonardo is threatening to shoot the madam." Mary, my nanny, whispered with a note of urgency as if she was being restricted from talking. At the mention of his name, my heart skipped a beat and my palms became clammy with sweat. Not because I was scared of him, but with him in our house, my wife's safety wasn't guaranteed. I'd gotten her message so there was no need for us to keep talking. I dropped the call and put inspector James on the line. As the minutes passed, my anxiety skyrocketed, threatening to hit the roof. My previously distracted mind was transcending into a state of frenzy and I couldn't do anything about it. He picked up after what seemed like eternity, and if he wasn't a noble police officer, I'd have thrown a punch at him. "Hi, Mr Hemingway. How are—" I cut through the pleasantries with clenched teeth. "I'm not fine, inspector James, Leonardo is in my house right now." "What? How is that even possible?

Chapter 156Melissa The sun shone brightly, the atmosphere bubbly and charged, but my feelings were the direct opposite as I worked on packing the rest of my clothes. It was past one pm, and it gradually dawned on me that in less than three hours, I'd be leaving California to Mexico. Mexico was a nice country, but I wasn't sure it would be nice to me if Dexter wasn't there. What could I do about it? Nothing! The doorbell jingle, so I dropped the last pair of black shoes I'd selected as I didn't know what event I might be attending, even though I planned to stay indoors throughout my visit there. My chest tightened since I wasn't expecting any visitors, then I shook away my suspicion, reminding myself that if it was Leonardo he wouldn't be coming directly through the door. I took a peek at the peephole and found a man standing beside a bike with a box, causing me to frown. It was strange to see him because I didn't make an order and I clearly wasn't expecting anything from some

Chapter 155Melissa He came in, his expression glimmering with pure exhaustion. My eyes intently followed his sluggish movement as I tried to overcome the barrier between us so that I would welcome him properly. "You didn't tell me that you'll be coming back this late. I've been waiting." His eyes darted to his wristwatch, then he palmed his forehead with a sigh. "I'm so sorry. I lost track of time. Today was really hectic, several things had to be put in place and I wanted to oversee some of the activities by myself." He explained calmly, while I peered at him, my jaws slackened in surprise. We were supposed to be having a beef, but here he was, explaining how his entire day went even though his body screamed for rest. Strings of guilt gnawed at my chest as I fiddled with my fingers. I'd been completely selfish, and that was why I couldn't notice that my husband was slowly losing his mind because of my problems. I wasn't even making things easier for him. "Can you come over to

Chapter 154Melissa It was over a week since Leonardo managed to outsmart the cops and ran away, and I'd admit that I lost my peace of mind ever since. He could be lurking around, patiently waiting for the right time to strike and I wouldn't know. I wanted it all to end. I wanted to live happily with my family, take a long break from work and just reap all the fruits of my hard work, but all of my wishes wouldn't happen with Leonardo running freely while his daughter was behind bars. Dexter came into the room with a brown envelope in his hands. Once he heard that Leonardo had escaped, he lost his peace as he aided the cops in searching for him. He had become a shadow of his handsome self, as he was more interested in keeping Lilly and I safe. "Hi, cupcake, how was your day?" I asked as he sank on the bed and kissed my lips lightly. His hands moved to my abdomen which he caressed fondly. It was still flat as the pregnancy hadn't gotten to three months. It was a good thing becau

It's because we have an important announcement to make, but before that, I'd like to appreciate everyone who is working tirelessly to ensure that Hills Jewelry is back to the top again." I said and they followed my speech with an ovation. I spoke to them with an air of confidence, passing glances at Leonardo who tried to hide his frown. If only he knew what I had in store for him today, he wouldn't be present at the meeting at all. But I found a way to lure him here, promising him that I was going to help him return to his former position. I knew that Liam claimed to be Lilly's father and he had several ways of proving it, but for some unknown reasons, I hoped that a miracle would occur and the result would be in my favor. The door made a creaking sound as Doctor Luca let himself in. I searched his face for a clue, but as usual, his face gave away nothing. He sank onto his seat and said nothing for some seconds, then he inhaled and fixed his gaze on me. "The result is ready." He announced like I didn't know already. "Can I have it?" I asked curtly, getting cranky by the minute. He passed a brown envelope to me which I opened. A white paper fell out and I opened it, unwilling to drag the tension further. I scanned through the information, unable to make out what it meant until I got to the end and saw the statement of the result. My heart plummeted when I read that the probability of my
