CHAPTER 12

Venus immediately covered her mouth and felt a tidal wave of regret and embarrassment flow through her.

She shouldn't have said that. Venus knew it. However, it came out of her mouth without thinking.

There was a long minute of stillness and silence. Venus finally looked up at King Bloodstar, who was staring at her in a bewildered look.

Before he could say anything, Venus removed herself from his arm. She turned away and began to walk back.

"I must go, Your Majesty. The day grows late."

"Venus!" King Bloodstar said, calling after her.

Venus didn't stop. She picked up her dress and walked even faster. She found herself almost flying through the game room. Many of the nobles barely had the time to notice her as Venus was out of the room as quickly as she came in.

Venus trotted along the balcony that overhanged the courtyard and turned into a hallway. She then pressed herself into the wall and let out a long exhausted breath.

Why had she said that?! Why?!!!
