Terran

I looked at her and shook my head. “I didn’t do it.”

“Well, the only people that even knew were Mandy and us, and I know she didn’t do it,” Hailey said, her voice slightly irritated.

I mentally groaned. Zach. It had to have been Zach. That explained the use of our public headshots. “Never mind. I know who did it. Sorry, I guess I assumed it was you.”

In the back of my mind, I was back to feeling like an asshole. I seemed to be doing that a lot lately. I kept misjudging Hailey. She hadn’t released the announcement. She wasn’t bragging about snaring me. I was an egotistical prick, assuming I was some grand prize to be won.

She laughed, the mood relaxing a bit. “Who was it?” she asked, her hand moving back to my thigh.

“Zach,” I admitted.

“Who’s Zach?” Mandy asked.

“He’s my best friend. I told him on Saturday. He must have been a little excited.” I made a mental note to call him and then kick his ass.

“I can’t wait to meet him,” Hailey said enthusiastically. “He’s obviously pretty

HaileyI added a little powder to my nose, fluffed my hair, and pulled my strapless dress up a little. We were both standing in front of the vanity in the bathroom, doing what women did when they visited the bathroom together—we primped.“What do you think?” Mandy asked as she swiped on another slick of lipstick.“Of?” I asked, playing dumb and stalling as I tried to think of something to say.“You know what—Reggie. He’s handsome, right?”I nodded my head. “He is very good looking. How old is he?” I estimated him to be close to forty, which seemed too old for Mandy.“Thirty-nine, which isn’t much older than your future husband, I might add, so don’t lecture me on that.”I smiled. “I wasn’t going to lecture you. The heart wants what it wants.”“You’re dodging the question, which tells me you don’t care for him.”I shrugged a shoulder. “I’m not saying that at all. He seems smart, nice.” I didn’t want to dog on the guy.My gut instinct told me he was a douchebag, but I had thought that a

  • Marry Me For Money   Defending Her Honor

HaileyWe walked out of the restaurant and quickly hailed a cab to take us back to his place. We didn’t talk the entire ride home. I was stunned and pissed at the same time. I had never known him to be violent. I wasn’t sure what happened, but it had to be something big. I had a feeling Reggie would be pressing charges in order to get a payout from Terran. It was the oldest trick in the book, one I would have thought Terran would know by now. When we got back to his place, I ordered him to sit down while I grabbed a sandwich bag and filled it with ice. I walked back to the living room to see him sitting on the couch, looking at the back of his hand.“Here,” I said, handing him the ice.“Is it for my hand or my face?” He smirked.I looked at his face and shook my head. “It doesn’t look like you’re going to suffer from a black eye. You have a split lip, but you’ll recover.”“My hand then. That may not recover.”“Tell me what happened,” I said softly. He dragged in a deep breath, closing

TerranI woke up with my beautiful fiancée snuggled against me and knew I was a lucky man. I moved to get out of bed when she stopped me.“Hey, Tyson, how’s the hand?” she asked in a groggy voice.I laughed. “Sore, but I’m sure I’ll survive. I need to shower and get ready.” When I got out of the shower, she had a cup of coffee waiting for me, along with a couple ibuprofen.“I figured you’d be a little sore,” she said with a smile.“Thank you. And thank you for taking care of me last night.”She gave me a gentle kiss on the uninjured side of my mouth. “I’ve got to get going. Be good today, and try not to beat anyone else up.”“Ha, ha,” I said in a dry tone.I quickly finished my coffee before heading out. When I reached for the door handle, I realized just how sore my hand was. My knuckles were an ugly purple and swollen. I wasn’t going to be doing any major typing today.I walked into the office, doing my best not to make direct eye contact with anyone. I had escaped a black eye, but

  • Marry Me For Money   Lance is a Leech

TerranI grimaced. “No, I’m not. Not even close. You and I couldn’t be more different. I wasn’t the marrying kind when I was younger, but that was before I met her. She changed everything. I’m a different man.”He shrugged. “Whatever you say. I’m not walking away empty-handed, not this time. Your dad couldn’t have made his fortune without me. I have a right to a chunk of that fortune.”I threw my head back and laughed. “Lance, you’ve never done anything in your entire life that contributed to his success. You’re a blood-sucking leech. You always have been and always will be. You can’t hold a job, you don’t have the ambition to actually try and be successful, you deserve nothing. Get the fuck out of my office before I have your ass thrown out. I’m done.”He did not seem the least bit disturbed by my words. He sat there grinning like a fool. I understood why my dad kicked him out of our lives all those years ago. He was a drain on the family. Hell, he was a drain on society. My dad had

  • Marry Me For Money   Making Up

HaileyAfter leaving Terran’s condo, I called Mandy. She didn’t answer. I wanted to believe she was at work or in the shower, but I knew her reason for not answering was far more than that. She was pissed at me. I had ruined her dinner the night before and possibly cost her a boyfriend she really liked. I had to tell her what Terran told me and make her believe it. I believed him one-hundred percent, but I knew Mandy would be reluctant to take whatever Terran said at face value.I was dreading the coming encounter. Mandy hadn’t texted me back last night or this morning. I was worried about her. I could only imagine the story Reggie had come up with to explain the fight. I believed Terran. He had no reason to lie. I didn’t like Reggie from the moment I met him, and I didn’t care if that was judgmental. I parked my car and looked around the parking lot. When I saw Mandy’s car, my stomach did a little flip-flop.I took a deep breath, steeling my nerves and heading inside, waving and smil

Hailey“Why?” she groaned.“Why what, sweetie?”“Why did he have to be such an asshole? I didn’t even like him when I met him at the club. I wasn’t even trying to take home a guy that night. I feel like he targeted me.”“I’m sorry,” I told her, feeling tears filling my eyes. “I’m so, so sorry. I wanted to like him. I wanted him to be a great guy. But Mandy, I can’t let you be with a man that doesn’t treat you right. You deserve so much better.”She leaned into me. “Thank you.”“I’m always going to be here for you.”“I know. I just wish I could find the same happiness you did.”“I have no doubt in my mind that you will. Reggie isn’t the man for you. Hell, he isn’t the man for any woman.”She laughed. “No, he wasn’t. I have a confession.”“What?” I asked, wiping the tears from my eyes.“I kind of knew there was someone else. I just wanted to pretend it didn’t happen. I wanted to have a man in my life. You’re going to be married and be too busy for me. I was hoping to find someone to han

  • Marry Me For Money   Setting Her Up

TerranI felt like I owed Hailey a nice dinner out, just the two of us. I had made a mess of our last night out together and wanted to make it up to her. No more double dates for me for a good long while, not unless I knew the other guy.We were going casual tonight, mostly because I wasn’t sure I’d be allowed into any of the upscale restaurants I normally frequented. My little escapade had been the talk of the office all day yesterday. I was ashamed of the way I had reacted, but the guy deserved it. It was hard not to defend myself and try to explain my side of the story. I wanted to scream the guy had it coming. Instead, I kept my mouth shut and my head down. I couldn’t afford to bring any more attention to myself, especially with Lance breathing down my neck.I knocked on Hailey’s door, excited to see her. She’d slept at her place last night, and I found I really missed her when we were apart.“Hey, you,” she said, pulling open the door.I grabbed her and kissed her, needing to fee

  • Marry Me For Money   Stepping Right In It

TerranI nodded. “Yes.”I could practically see the wheels turning in her brain as she thought about it. “Usually, you hang out with people with similar interests. You tend to be a lot like your best friend. Mandy and I are alike in many ways. You say Zach is not a good guy, but what does that make you?”I gulped, realizing I had just stepped in some serious shit. “I’m not Zach, but there are going to be some people who will mention my past. I was a lot like Zach in some ways, but I’ve changed. You have to know that. Please don’t hold any of that against me. I wasn’t a good guy, and I did use women. I’ll admit it now, but I’m not like that. I hate that I was ever like that. I’ve grown up a lot. My priorities have changed.”“You mean you aren’t the party animal and womanizer people thought you to be?” she asked in a soft voice.“Hailey, I want to be honest with you. I was like that a long time ago. I was immature and did whatever I wanted, when I wanted, with who I wanted. That was the

HaileyI laughed nervously. “A whirlwind, really. I was doing the modeling thing one day, and the next, I got the call I had landed this part. I am so grateful to my husband for putting me in touch with Gabriel, my agent. It was like everything fell into place at the exact right time.”“What is this foundation I’ve heard you are working with?” she asked from the preselected questions Gabriel had given her.I smiled. “It’s a foundation to help those kids who tend to fall through the cracks in the foster care system. So many kids are on the streets today because there is a shortage of quality foster homes that are capable of dealing with some of the issues kids are facing.”She smiled and nodded her head. “You were never in the system?”I shook my head. “No. My mother raised me by herself, working two jobs to keep a roof over our heads. It wasn’t easy. I hated how much she struggled, but she taught me that life isn’t about how much you have or what your zip code is. She taught me love i

  • Marry Me For Money   Epilogue Part 1

HaileyOne Year LaterI was more than a little nervous as I sat in the chair assigned to us in the second row. Terran put his hand on my knee and squeezed. I looked at him and smiled. When Gabriel had called to tell me I had been nominated for best actress in a feature film, I had nearly passed out. Our film had barely met the deadline to be nominated for anything.“You look absolutely stunning,” Terran said, staring at me with eyes full of love.“Thank you,” I said, smoothing down the long fitted black gown I was wearing. Terran had bought me a new diamond necklace to go with the dress. My hair was piled on my head in a fancy updo, leaving my neck exposed and the necklace fully visible. I loved telling everyone on the red carpet that asked that my husband had given it to me as a gift for my nomination. I had made more than one of the female reporters green with envy.“You’ve got this,” Terran whispered in my ear.“I’m freaking out,” I gushed, my finger twirling the wedding ring on my

HaileyI had my legs spread wide, his knees clamping down on my bent knee when I moved to close my legs, hoping to rub them hard enough together to get the relief I was absolutely desperate to have. His hand slowly moved over my stomach, stopping to rest on my pubic bone, inches away from where I needed him to be.I whimpered in frustration.“Shh, I’m here,” he whispered.I felt a tear slip down my cheek. I loved him so much. He had my body taut as a bow by simply loving me and worshiping my body. When his index finger slid down my center, spreading my pussy lips, I cried out in earnest. It was the lightest touch over my clit that sent me over the edge. My body arched off the bed as a violent, earth-shattering climax tumbled me into a place with a million shooting stars overhead. I felt as if I had been electrocuted, every muscle in my body tensing as his finger slid inside me.He held me while I moaned and spasmed against him. When my body finally spiraled downward, he climbed on top

  • Marry Me For Money   Shower

HaileyI was happier than I had ever been in my life, riding a high that just seemed to be getting better and better.“I’m going to jump in the shower,” I told him, heading toward his bedroom. It had been a long, busy day, and I was ready to unwind with the love of my life and a good bottle of wine. But first, I wanted to feel clean. I stripped off my jeans before turning on the hot water of his magnificent shower that was big enough to hold a small party in. The jets on the sides and the rainfall shower head made it a very enjoyable experience to shower in his bathroom. I thought about the house we had just visited and regretted not checking out the shower situation closer. I had been so overwhelmed by everything else, the shower slipped my mind.I stripped out of my clothes and stepped under the hot water, letting it cascade over my body. Suddenly, the room was filled with beautiful jazz music. I grinned, knowing that had been Terran. A few seconds later, I felt a cool blast of air

  • Marry Me For Money   Heartache

Terran“It’s okay. If I had been honest from the start, I could have saved us a lot of heartache. It was never about the money for me. I wanted you, and I wanted to keep the company intact, even if that meant I had to step away from it.”She nodded her head, fresh tears welling in her eyes. “I’m sorry. I should have believed you. I’m so glad you came back and made me listen. I love you.”“I love you, and I would have walked through fire to get you back.”“I’m so glad you did.”“Thank you for showing me this. You’ve really opened my eyes. I think we can do a lot more good together. I want to do more of this.”She was smiling. “Good, because I plan on giving a large chunk of my salary for the movie to charity. I think we should decide where it goes together.”“What about here?” I asked. She burst into laughter. “I think that check you gave them is going to go a long way. There are plenty of other charities and organizations that are desperate for funding.”“Maybe we could start a founda

TerranI took her hand in mine as we walked into the bank. I had her sit on one of the chairs in the center of the lobby while I spoke with one of the people sitting at an open desk. I rejoined Hailey, who was nervously looking around the huge bank with big black columns supporting the ridiculously high ceiling.“What are we doing here?” she asked.I smiled. “You’ll find out soon enough.”It wasn’t long before a man wearing an expensive suit was striding across the marble floor toward where we were sitting.“Mr. Maddox, it’s good to see you. I’m Con Steven, the manager here. I understand you have some business you need to take care of?”I stood and shook his hand. “I do. This is my fiancée Hailey Hollis.”He shook Hailey’s hand and then led the way to his office. We sat down in the chairs opposite his desk. He tapped on his keyboard, pulling up my account.“Okay, I see you have a large deposit made recently. What can I help you with?”“I would like to have a cashier’s check drawn up f

  • Marry Me For Money   It Was You

HaileyWe talked with each of the kids for a little while before it was time for them to have their outside time. When Mandy left to take the kids to the playground, Terran turned to look at me. “That was crazy.”I laughed, picking up scattered crayons and scraps of paper. “It usually is.”“They all know you, and love you,” he said with awe.“I like to come by and help out. Mandy has a lot of kids to contend with, and with budget cuts, she doesn’t have a lot of help. I come in when I can. It lightens the load so the other aides and caregivers can focus on other stuff.” He was nodding his head. “I see.”“Terran, I brought you here because I wanted to show you why I’m so passionate about giving money to charities. This place is funded by the government, but that barely keeps the doors open and the lights on. They have to fight to get every dollar they can. I know it’s like that for a lot of other organizations.”He nodded his head. “I’m not opposed to giving money to charity. Not at al

  • Marry Me For Money   Meeting The Kids

HaileyI wasn’t surprised to feel the bed empty beside me. We’d stayed at his house last night, as usual. We’d gone straight to bed, both of us tired after a long few days. Terran had tossed and turned all night. I had a feeling he was a lot more anxious about giving away the money than he was letting on. I had to assuage my own guilt. I walked into the living room to find him pacing the floor, his phone next to his ear as he talked about his schedule for the day. When he hung up, I smiled at him. He smiled back, but the smile didn’t reach his eyes as it normally did.“You didn’t sleep very well,” I said, walking to him to kiss him good morning. He shook his head. “No, I didn’t. I have a lot on my mind.”I nodded my head in understanding. “Was that the office?”“Yes. I was clearing my schedule for the day. I still need to do a conference call, but the rest can be taken care of from home. What about you?” “I’m free. I mean, I’m supposed to be learning my lines, but I don’t have to be

Terran“I mean, I would not blame you for wanting to keep some or all of the money for our own future. I know you’re a genuine person. You don’t have to prove anything to me. It’s a lot of money to give away.” There was a skeptical look in her eye. “Are you saying that because you don’t want to give it away?”I shrugged a shoulder. “I won’t lie that I haven’t thought about what I could do with that money. I could expand the company, set up trust funds for every one of the seven children we’re going to have.” I winked, trying to make her laugh.“You don’t want to give the money to charity?” she asked.“I’m not saying that at all.”“But you’re regretting telling me you would?”I shook my head. I could see the wheels turning in her head. She was jumping to conclusions and letting the thoughts run away. I could see the anger and hurt in her eyes, and I grabbed her hand again.“Hailey, I regret nothing. I told you I would give it away if that was what you wanted. I will do anything to mak
