Hailey

“Nothing like that.”

“Bullshit. You never once mentioned the wedding. You were pulling away after you gave me the stupid ring, and I should have realized then something was up. You’re good, Terran. I’ll give you that. You’re a smooth-talker. You knew just what to say to get me to leave you alone and give you space. Were you seeing someone else?”

“No.”

“I know you like you said, and I’m guessing you had a backup plan in case I said no.”

I took in a deep breath and shrugged. “I knew you wouldn’t say no.”

Her mouth fell open. “What? Are you kidding me? Are you really that arrogant?”

I had told her I loved her. I had done everything I could to explain. She wasn’t hearing it. I wasn’t going to stand there and let her make me out to be the bad guy. She wasn’t exactly innocent.

“I’m not arrogant, Hailey, but I know you only agreed to go out with me because of who I am and what I have,” I said in a low voice.

She looked as if I had slapped her. “I can’t believe you just said that,” she

TerranIt wasn’t going to happen today. I couldn’t do it. I couldn’t find the strength to talk to anyone. I had been holed up in my condo for a week, and I wasn’t ready to leave the comfort of my cocoon. I knew I wasn’t being the responsible adult I should be, but I didn’t care.“Lena,” I said when she answered the phone.“Don’t say it,” she said, scolding me before I said a word.“I can’t. I can’t make it in today. Or tomorrow. Clear my schedule for at least the next few days.” “Terran Maddox! What is going on?”I sighed. “I’m working on a deal,” I lied.“No, you’re not. You didn’t come in at all last week. I’m dodging calls and running out of excuses. You need to get your butt in here.”“I’m sorry. I just need a few more days to get things together.”“Is everything okay?” she asked in a low voice.“Yes, fine. Everything is fine. I’ll be checking emails, but I won’t be in the office.”I hung up, feeling like a coward, but I was unable to face people. Everyone was going to ask me abo

  • Marry Me For Money   Without A Fight

Terran“That doesn’t sound like the Terran I know. Don’t give up without a fight.”“No,” I said, defeat in my voice. “I’m not going to hire a woman or jump into some stupid, arranged marriage. I can’t. I’ll never be able to pull it off. The lawyer will see right through me.”“Terran, it doesn’t have to end like this. She’s a woman. There are a million other women out there. Don’t lose everything because of one woman, who I remind you that you’ve only known for a few months. It isn’t like you guys had some long relationship. It was a couple months. Easy come, easy go.” It wasn’t like that at all. Hailey was not a woman a man could let go easily. At least, not for me. There had been nothing easy about the last week. Everything I did, smelled, or touched reminded me of her.I let out a long sigh. “Let’s hit the water.”“Way to change the subject.”I ignored him and got to my feet, dusting the sand off my butt, grabbing my board, and heading for the water. I wanted to forget about all of

  • Marry Me For Money   Another Audition

HaileyI walked into the hotel, then followed the directions down the hall to the room reserved by the production company. Gabriel was waiting for me in the hall, on his phone as usual. When he saw me, he waved and held up a finger, telling me to wait.I looked around the area and noticed a few other women who looked nothing like me. I suddenly felt very underdressed. The role was for a professional businesswoman. I had dressed in a short, tight skirt, conservative heels and a white blouse unbuttoned just enough to be sexy, without being sleazy—I hoped. I looked at the woman at the end of the hall and thought she looked vaguely familiar. I had seen her on TV before. Either a commercial or on a show, I couldn’t quite place her. She turned to look at me, and I smiled. She glared back, her dark smoky eye makeup giving her a sinister look.“Oh good, just like in the modeling world,” I grumbled under my breath.“What was that?” Gabriel asked.I shook my head. “Nothing.”He ended the call a

Hailey“I would say by that smile on your face it went well,” Gabriel’s voice floated over to me.I opened my eyes, still smiling. “I think it did. They said I gave them a lot to think about, and they’ll let me know. Is that good, or is that what they tell everyone?”“Trust me, if they like you, they tell you. If they don’t like you, they tell you. The idea of tact is usually lost on these people.”I breathed a sigh of relief and felt myself relax. The door was thrown open, nearly slamming into the wall behind it. The woman I had thought I had recognized stormed out, cursing and calling the producer all kinds of filthy names. Her agent was running along behind her, trying to calm her down.Gabriel grinned. “See? Not everyone gets glowing praise.”“She wasn’t in there very long.”He smiled. “Mavis has a horrible reputation in the industry. She was on track to be the next big thing and then let her ego get in the way. She’s been fired from every one of her last few projects. Nobody want

  • Marry Me For Money   Bunch Of Lies

TerranWhen my eyes popped open, a surge of excitement mingled with dread ran through my veins. I had decided, after one too many beers last night, that I was going to see Hailey this morning. I was going to make her listen to me, and then, I was going to grovel. I was going to beg and plead and apologize until I was blue in the face. I had to make her hear me and believe me when I told her I loved her. If she shut me down after that, I would accept defeat. I would crawl away to my lonely, broken world.I showered, shaved, and dressed in a pair of black slacks and a dark green shirt. I knew she liked it when I wore green. It made my eyes appear a more emerald color, which always drove her wild. I was pulling out all the stops. I would stop and get her flowers as well. I debated buying her jewelry but had scrapped the idea. I didn’t want money playing into the conversation at all. I needed her to want me for me just as much as I wanted her.As I sipped on my cup of coffee, thinking abo

  • Marry Me For Money   The Real Thing

TerranHe slapped his hands on his desk. “I knew it! Do you know how dangerous this little game is that you’re playing? Do you know I could be accused of encouraging you to lie? I don’t appreciate you lying to me. I do work for you, but I can’t help you if you’re running around doing things that are only going to hurt the case in the long run. Help me, help you.”We stared at each other for several long seconds. The tension in the room was palpable with both of us having our hackles up.“Fine. It is real. Very real. We did have a minor disagreement, but I am confident I can get her back. This engagement is the real thing, Jim. Lance tried to drop a bomb on it, and he did say some things that made Hailey question my intentions. I plan on getting her back. When do I have to do this stupid interview?” I’d do the interview, but I wouldn’t like it one bit.He let out a long sigh and leaned back in his chair, rubbing a hand over his face. “I can buy you a week, maybe a little longer. I’ll t

  • Marry Me For Money   No More Trust

HaileyI walked into the coffee shop, scanning the tables until I saw Mandy, her head down as she furiously typed away on her phone.“Hey!” I greeted, taking a seat across from her.“Hi,” she said, exasperation in her voice.“Uh oh, what’s the matter?”She shook her head. “I’m getting denied the special funding I applied for.”“Funding for what?” I asked.“I was talking with the director of the orphanage the other day about getting more supplies for the kids. I hate sending them to school with old, used stuff. In some cases, we can’t even provide the right size clothing for them. I feel like we’re scarring them for life. There’s so much I want to do. I applied for a grant and got turned down. Everyone says their budget is stretched too tight and there’s no money. They keep telling me to apply early next year. That doesn’t help me this year. Not to mention, we are at full capacity and then some. We just had to transform one of the tutoring rooms into living space.” She shook her head.

  • Marry Me For Money   Hear Him Out

HaileyI scoffed. “Oh, he wants me all right. He wants my body. He wants me to be engaged long enough to get his hands on some stupid inheritance. After that, he might not be quite so excited to want only me. I knew his reputation before all this, and I wanted to believe it was all a load of garbage. But now, I have to ask myself if I only told myself that because I didn’t want it to be true. I put my ideas about what I wanted in a man on him. He was only being the guy I was asking for. That is a true con man. He’s a chameleon, and I fell for it.” “I really don’t think so. Why don’t you talk to him? You said he’d called you several times.”“And then what?”“Hear him out. Listen to the words he says. Rely on your gut instincts and see if he is being genuine or he’s just running a game on you. You’re not some naïve little girl who hasn’t been around long enough to know when somebody is blowing smoke. Trust your instincts. I’ve always known you to be a solid judge of character. You are

HaileyI laughed nervously. “A whirlwind, really. I was doing the modeling thing one day, and the next, I got the call I had landed this part. I am so grateful to my husband for putting me in touch with Gabriel, my agent. It was like everything fell into place at the exact right time.”“What is this foundation I’ve heard you are working with?” she asked from the preselected questions Gabriel had given her.I smiled. “It’s a foundation to help those kids who tend to fall through the cracks in the foster care system. So many kids are on the streets today because there is a shortage of quality foster homes that are capable of dealing with some of the issues kids are facing.”She smiled and nodded her head. “You were never in the system?”I shook my head. “No. My mother raised me by herself, working two jobs to keep a roof over our heads. It wasn’t easy. I hated how much she struggled, but she taught me that life isn’t about how much you have or what your zip code is. She taught me love i

  • Marry Me For Money   Epilogue Part 1

HaileyOne Year LaterI was more than a little nervous as I sat in the chair assigned to us in the second row. Terran put his hand on my knee and squeezed. I looked at him and smiled. When Gabriel had called to tell me I had been nominated for best actress in a feature film, I had nearly passed out. Our film had barely met the deadline to be nominated for anything.“You look absolutely stunning,” Terran said, staring at me with eyes full of love.“Thank you,” I said, smoothing down the long fitted black gown I was wearing. Terran had bought me a new diamond necklace to go with the dress. My hair was piled on my head in a fancy updo, leaving my neck exposed and the necklace fully visible. I loved telling everyone on the red carpet that asked that my husband had given it to me as a gift for my nomination. I had made more than one of the female reporters green with envy.“You’ve got this,” Terran whispered in my ear.“I’m freaking out,” I gushed, my finger twirling the wedding ring on my

HaileyI had my legs spread wide, his knees clamping down on my bent knee when I moved to close my legs, hoping to rub them hard enough together to get the relief I was absolutely desperate to have. His hand slowly moved over my stomach, stopping to rest on my pubic bone, inches away from where I needed him to be.I whimpered in frustration.“Shh, I’m here,” he whispered.I felt a tear slip down my cheek. I loved him so much. He had my body taut as a bow by simply loving me and worshiping my body. When his index finger slid down my center, spreading my pussy lips, I cried out in earnest. It was the lightest touch over my clit that sent me over the edge. My body arched off the bed as a violent, earth-shattering climax tumbled me into a place with a million shooting stars overhead. I felt as if I had been electrocuted, every muscle in my body tensing as his finger slid inside me.He held me while I moaned and spasmed against him. When my body finally spiraled downward, he climbed on top

  • Marry Me For Money   Shower

HaileyI was happier than I had ever been in my life, riding a high that just seemed to be getting better and better.“I’m going to jump in the shower,” I told him, heading toward his bedroom. It had been a long, busy day, and I was ready to unwind with the love of my life and a good bottle of wine. But first, I wanted to feel clean. I stripped off my jeans before turning on the hot water of his magnificent shower that was big enough to hold a small party in. The jets on the sides and the rainfall shower head made it a very enjoyable experience to shower in his bathroom. I thought about the house we had just visited and regretted not checking out the shower situation closer. I had been so overwhelmed by everything else, the shower slipped my mind.I stripped out of my clothes and stepped under the hot water, letting it cascade over my body. Suddenly, the room was filled with beautiful jazz music. I grinned, knowing that had been Terran. A few seconds later, I felt a cool blast of air

  • Marry Me For Money   Heartache

Terran“It’s okay. If I had been honest from the start, I could have saved us a lot of heartache. It was never about the money for me. I wanted you, and I wanted to keep the company intact, even if that meant I had to step away from it.”She nodded her head, fresh tears welling in her eyes. “I’m sorry. I should have believed you. I’m so glad you came back and made me listen. I love you.”“I love you, and I would have walked through fire to get you back.”“I’m so glad you did.”“Thank you for showing me this. You’ve really opened my eyes. I think we can do a lot more good together. I want to do more of this.”She was smiling. “Good, because I plan on giving a large chunk of my salary for the movie to charity. I think we should decide where it goes together.”“What about here?” I asked. She burst into laughter. “I think that check you gave them is going to go a long way. There are plenty of other charities and organizations that are desperate for funding.”“Maybe we could start a founda

TerranI took her hand in mine as we walked into the bank. I had her sit on one of the chairs in the center of the lobby while I spoke with one of the people sitting at an open desk. I rejoined Hailey, who was nervously looking around the huge bank with big black columns supporting the ridiculously high ceiling.“What are we doing here?” she asked.I smiled. “You’ll find out soon enough.”It wasn’t long before a man wearing an expensive suit was striding across the marble floor toward where we were sitting.“Mr. Maddox, it’s good to see you. I’m Con Steven, the manager here. I understand you have some business you need to take care of?”I stood and shook his hand. “I do. This is my fiancée Hailey Hollis.”He shook Hailey’s hand and then led the way to his office. We sat down in the chairs opposite his desk. He tapped on his keyboard, pulling up my account.“Okay, I see you have a large deposit made recently. What can I help you with?”“I would like to have a cashier’s check drawn up f

HaileyWe talked with each of the kids for a little while before it was time for them to have their outside time. When Mandy left to take the kids to the playground, Terran turned to look at me. “That was crazy.”I laughed, picking up scattered crayons and scraps of paper. “It usually is.”“They all know you, and love you,” he said with awe.“I like to come by and help out. Mandy has a lot of kids to contend with, and with budget cuts, she doesn’t have a lot of help. I come in when I can. It lightens the load so the other aides and caregivers can focus on other stuff.” He was nodding his head. “I see.”“Terran, I brought you here because I wanted to show you why I’m so passionate about giving money to charities. This place is funded by the government, but that barely keeps the doors open and the lights on. They have to fight to get every dollar they can. I know it’s like that for a lot of other organizations.”He nodded his head. “I’m not opposed to giving money to charity. Not at al

  • Marry Me For Money   Meeting The Kids

HaileyI wasn’t surprised to feel the bed empty beside me. We’d stayed at his house last night, as usual. We’d gone straight to bed, both of us tired after a long few days. Terran had tossed and turned all night. I had a feeling he was a lot more anxious about giving away the money than he was letting on. I had to assuage my own guilt. I walked into the living room to find him pacing the floor, his phone next to his ear as he talked about his schedule for the day. When he hung up, I smiled at him. He smiled back, but the smile didn’t reach his eyes as it normally did.“You didn’t sleep very well,” I said, walking to him to kiss him good morning. He shook his head. “No, I didn’t. I have a lot on my mind.”I nodded my head in understanding. “Was that the office?”“Yes. I was clearing my schedule for the day. I still need to do a conference call, but the rest can be taken care of from home. What about you?” “I’m free. I mean, I’m supposed to be learning my lines, but I don’t have to be

Terran“I mean, I would not blame you for wanting to keep some or all of the money for our own future. I know you’re a genuine person. You don’t have to prove anything to me. It’s a lot of money to give away.” There was a skeptical look in her eye. “Are you saying that because you don’t want to give it away?”I shrugged a shoulder. “I won’t lie that I haven’t thought about what I could do with that money. I could expand the company, set up trust funds for every one of the seven children we’re going to have.” I winked, trying to make her laugh.“You don’t want to give the money to charity?” she asked.“I’m not saying that at all.”“But you’re regretting telling me you would?”I shook my head. I could see the wheels turning in her head. She was jumping to conclusions and letting the thoughts run away. I could see the anger and hurt in her eyes, and I grabbed her hand again.“Hailey, I regret nothing. I told you I would give it away if that was what you wanted. I will do anything to mak
