Adira was sitting in front of her office desk while reminiscing the scene unfolded in her new home this early morning:
“You have feelings for this lady.” Adira stared down at Isa as she whispered, “Right, Honey?”
At Adira’s remark, Chadwick and Isa held their breaths for a moment. They did not expect to hear this answer directly from Adira.
As no one from the two could answer her, Adira pulled her hand away from Chadwick’s. Then, she glanced at the woman sitting pathetically on the floor.
“Miss Isa. You don’t need to pick those up because I will ask someone else to clean it. After all, YOU ARE MY HUSBAND’S DEAREST GUEST.”
Adira smiled at Isa, an eerie and haunting beam, like an image in a broken mirror. Isa felt the chill creeping out on her skin.
“And honey,” Adira called the unmovable and stunned Chadwick. She leaned towards him, placing her leg between his thighs before she fixed the collar of his shirt.
Chadwick’s eyes dilated in front of the gorgeous woman before him. A scowl marred on his face. Even Adira’s cloying scents are enticing, and he detests such kind if smell.
“I had to go to work. Have a great time with your guest.”
She moved two steps backward away from him, and she did not forget to wear the sneer on her lips. When she turned around, her red hair fluttered in the air. Adira left the two without looking back, as if seeing them again would waste her time.
“Ma’am?”
Waking up from recollecting the vivid memory, Adira stared at her secretary.
“Is there a problem?” asked miss Hansel.
Secretary Hansel noticed that Adira kept on looking afar, and she thought it’s odd because her boss does not usually lose her focus, especially while working.
Carefully opening her mouth, Adira responded, “Secretary Hansel.”
The secretary quickly responded, “Yes, Ma’am?
“How long it has been already since you married your husband?”
Not only Adira spaced out, but she’s also asking a personal question to her employee?!
Hansel peeked out of the window, making sure that the sun will set to the West.
Adira seems friendly and approachable at first glance. However, people who socialized with her could tell that Adira built a wall between her and the others. She smiled but at the same time, she hates getting attached to someone or something.
Therefore, when Adira asked Hansel about her personal life, Hansel thought it would be a good sign.
“Well, my husband and I have been married for four years,” Hansel shyly shared.
Adira rested her chin on her clutched hands. Humming, she responded, “Ahhhh.” Then she looked back at her again with another question to ask. “What will you do if you found out that your husband likes someone else?”
“P-Pardon?”
“Then, the woman he likes can freely come in and out of your house. What will you do?”
Hansel felt the flicker of irritation which flooded in her vein. Even just imagining the situation, she felt like she’d burst in madness!
Turning red, Hansel opened her mouth and she subconsciously shouted, “I will beat them to death!”
Death.
Death. Death. The loud shout echoed inside the office.
It took Hansel seconds to realize her grave mistake.
Did she just shout at the CEO of the company?
Definitely not. She only did that unconsciously to release her anger to the imaginary situation.
Gasping, Hansel lowered her head and apologized. “Sorry Ma’am! I did not mean to shout like that.”
Adira only chuckled. Then she uttered, “It’s okay.” She checked the documents in front of her and signed what needed to be signed.
Hansel glanced at the CEO’s pretty face. She’s dying to know why Adira suddenly asked that question. Anxiousness followed.
‘What if she asked me this because her husband brought another woman in their house?’ she wondered.
Hansel is one of the people who knows that Adira and Chadwick’s marriage is just for convenience. Withal, that is not an enough reason for Chadwick to bring his woman in their newly built house!
The worried secretary clenched her fists out of deep rage for her boss. Nevertheless, if Hansel is getting so mad like this even when she’s not a person involved, she imagined how hard it is for Adira.
‘I hope, Ma’am can stay strong,’ Hansel wished.
However, Adira actually does not feel pathetic. Reason why she asked the question to Hansel is because she’s only curious what a normal wife would feel in this this situation.
Adira is not a normal woman. Thus, she cannot understand this.
“You don’t need to drive me home, Secretary Hansel.”
“Yes?”
She stopped signing the documents as Adira looked back to Hansel.
“I will go to my favorite place and will drink some.”
Hansel nodded, “Noted, Ma’am.”
Adira bowed her head, and that’s why she did not see Hansel’s empathetic expression for her. Hansel thought that Adira would drink alcohol because she was having a hard time with her arranged marriage.
But actually, Adira just wanted to drink.
Nothing more. Nothing less.
—————— ------------------------------------------ -------------------------
Adira went to her favorite luxury bar at 6pm.
She always comes to this place whenever she’s tired from work. And today, she came here not because her husband or her husband’s woman.
Although she planned on seducing Chadwick, she does not intend to make him fall in love. Thus, Adira won’t care even if Chadwick is spending his sweet days with her woman.
‘I am too old to waste my time and play like a villain for those idiots,’ Adira thought, shaking her head.
With an elated heart, Adira wanted to drink alone after a long day of working. If there’s one thing she’s praying for, that is to have a cute child that she’ll spend her days with while her hair turns gray.
Adira focused on her career that she did not experience feeling attracted or interested in dating men, or women. Love will only be a hindrance, she thought, and that’s why she reached age of 31 without dating. Moreover, Adira knew that it is futile to try since she’ll only marry the husband that her father will choose. Why bother wasting her time crying and fighting over a stupid romance and pretending to be like a character in a tragic novel?
“I suddenly wanted to read tragic romance novel like Romeo and Juliet,” she murmured as she sat in front of the bar counter.
Adira looked around.
All of a sudden, a man sprung below the counter. He’s wearing a bartender uniform and he’s wiping his name tag which he picked up from the ground.
The man’s appearance caught Adira’s attention. She watched him pinned his name tag on his uniform with a name [“Geoffrey”]
Adira is a regular customer in this place. But this is the first time she saw this man.
The guy has brushed up blonde hair. His brows are arched up. He has eagle-like eyes which are sharp, but have heavy lids. His nose is tall, very majestic. He has heart-shaped lips with a small mole near his upper lip. He is also tall with a great build.
To make it short, he is very handsome; someone who will be a scene stealer anywhere he go.
‘The bar’s advertising skills are no joke,’ Adira praised the bar’s management inside her head.
At last, the man set his eyes to the woman sitting in front of the counter. As soon as he saw her face, he froze like a statue, as if he saw something very shocking.
Well, Adira is too used to this kind of reaction. She’s pretty, that’s why. Yet there’s something odd about the way the bartender looks at her. It was as if he knew her already.
The bartender, Geoffrey, closed his partly opened lips after a moment.
After staring at Adira’s face, he set his eyes towards her finger. And when he saw that she was not wearing any ring, a satisfied grin drew on his face.
Six months have passed. It’s already half a year since Chadwick and Adira married each other. Since then, Adira only wished one thing from her husband. And that is to convince him to sleep with her and warmth her bed. “Can I sleep inside your room?” “Let’s make out.” “Let’s sleep together.” “Honey, let’s have sex.” Living with Adira for the first month was hell to Chadwick. A hell with no escape. Adira never failed to ask him to have sex every day. EVERY SINGLE DAY. And it became a job to Chadwick to decline her. EVERY SINGLE DAY. Until Chadwick got used to her craziness after months. It became a routine for him to decline her, and it also became a routine for Adira to get rejection. Still, the stubborn lady doesn't know how to give up.Just like tonight, Adira came to visit his room to ask him the same thing again.“Darling,” Adira called, standing near the bed where Chadwick is sitting on. She’s wearing a shiny and thin sleepwear dress that was made from silk. If she stood ne
Last night’s incident never left Chadwick’s mind. Even when he’s inside his office and working, Adira’s reaction keeps on playing inside his head all over again. When Isa went to their house, crying and sobbing, she hugged Chadwick. Adira was also there at that time, watching the two of them without much expression. He’s in the verge of really believing that Adira doesn’t really care even if he hugs another woman in front of her. Yet of course, he did not do it on purpose. Chadwick doesn’t want to show that to his wife, yet he could not push Isa at that time. Yes. It is his fault. Chadwick blamed himself for being heartless towards his wife. “She does not look like someone who is mad,” he murmured. ‘As if she’s too tired to have time thinking about us,’ he continued internally. In the middle of his thoughts, his secretary called for him. “Sir.” From the ceiling, Chadwick dropped his gaze towards his employee. “What?” “Just to remind you of your schedule for tomorrow, Sir. You’l
“This is where the kids play,” said miss Marie, the one who is in charge in handling the orphanage. She pointed to the room where the orphans reside now. Despite their situations, the children’s faces are full of smiles and cheers. They just happily play together with kids whom they see as their new family. Adira stood by the door and peeked at the cute kids through the rectangular glass at the upper center of the closed door. She just stayed there, watching the smile on the kids’ faces and how they run so energetically, showing how blissful a youth can be. To show the other room to the McElroy couple, Miss Marie picked up her pace. Every new room in the orphanage was built because of the donation they received from the couple’s companies. So, Miss Marie had to show them every crook and to let them know where their money was spent too. Chadwick followed miss Marie and thought Adira will be on their tails. But on his fourth step, he sensed that his side was empty, which made him st
“That project is indeed good. But it is USELESS right now. If you think that you can solve the problem with that, then you are wrong, miss Dale.”A deafening silence echoed inside the office. Marie didn’t expect Adira to oppose Isa’s idea this much. And so, she was thinking of a way on how to lighten up the mood. Yet before she could, Isa’s voice returned in an unusual cold tone.“Can you tell me where did it went wrong? ADIRA.”Adira. Adira. Her own name rang inside Adira’s ear. Instead of calling her in a more formal way, Isa dared to uttere Adira’s name as if they were close. But since Isa appears like an angel to everyone, while Adira is the wicked villain, no one noticed that Isa just disrespected the most important guest in the orphanage.Nevertheless, this isn’t the first time Adira has experienced such rude behavior. As a female CEO, she was downgraded by her competitors from the other companies. Even so, she remained composed and undefeated, proving that gender doesn’t hind
“Madam, Sir Chadwick is in the hospital. He got into a car accident.” When Adira heard this news about her husband, a swirling panic went like a wave inside her body. Cold sweat formed on her forehead and her limbs, although they are intact, felt like they were about to give in from the shock she received. The inside of her chest seemed to narrow its size, squeezing her heart which are beating frantically, with her losing her breath with every pound. All her thoughts clouded as she picked up her car keys and dashed out of their house. She turned the engine with trembling hands and got the car out of their garage swiftly one backward and one forward. While driving on the road, she passed car by car, never forgetting to press the horn, showing how urgent she was at this moment. Beep! Beep! Beep! Cars move sideward at the loud warning. Beep! Beep! Beep! The loud sounds made her more agitated, and impatient. She glanced now and then at the clock on the car, and back on the road. As
When Adira left the VIP room, she met Neil who was pale from head to toe. “M-Madam,” he stuttered. “W-When Miss Isa arrived, I told her that you are inside b-but…” It must be that. Adira knew what made Neil this nervous. He might fear seeing her freak out since Neil let another woman enter the room while she was inside. Then, does it mean, Neil knows that there’s something between his boss and that woman named Isa? “Do you know?” Adira asked. “Pardon, Ma’am?” Neil murmured while sweating so much. “I am asking if you know that my husband likes Miss Isa.” Neil’s eyes’ size doubled, as if a family of giraffes could enter inside of those shaking pupils. “M-My boss likes… who?” Neil repeated the question. He was so stunned; he couldn’t breathe for long seconds. As far as he knows, Isa is his boss’ good friend, and they have been close friends ever since high school. And so, when Isa entered the room, Neil worried that Adira would misunderstand the situation. However… “My boss lik
Before Adira got married, she discovered that her husband had a messy love triangle in the past. Chadwick loves Isa, but Isa loves someone else.Adira did not research more about the third person since she and he won’t see each other anyway. And knowing her husband’s woman is enough. However, playing ignorant of the details will be her mistake.“Brother, why are you here?” Isa asked her brother, Geoffrey. The man whom Isa loves so dearly is no other than her stepbrother, Geoffrey Cullen, the bartender who’s working at Adira’s favorite bar.Isa and Geoffrey became step-siblings because their parents remarried. But ever since their parents died, Geoffrey cut ties with his stepsister. The main reason is that he’s aware of Isa’s feelings for him, which he cannot accept.“What are you doing here in the hospital? Are you sick?!” Isa inquired about her stepbrother with a worried face. With downcast eyes, Geoffrey kept his lips pursed. His heart was pounding so hard before, but now, it calmed
Chadwick kept on insisting that he could stay alone in the house without anyone’s help. But as soon as Neil left, he’s having a hard time just pouring the cereal in his bowl. Using his not dominant hand, the left, the box shook within his grip and grains of cereal were poured clumsily inside and outside the bowl.“Damn it,” Chadwick cursed while looking at the mess.He swept the cereals to the side with his left. Next, he got the milk box and tried to open it. However, no matter how strong his left hand is, he still needs the help of the other side to do the task.Adira saw the struggle of her husband. Thus, she approached the poor injured man and offered help.“Let me prepare it for you, honey,” Adira said.Chadwick could not refute as Adira snatched the box from his hand. He looked at her wife’s side profile, striking gorgeously even if she’s not wearing makeup. Her red hair was tied up, revealing her white skin and that sharp collarbones. She’s wearing her glossy, thin and pink slee
5 months passed. The joined project of Crimson Meadow and Wine&Vibe is a great success. Many congratulated the two CEOs who worked so hard for this project and for helping a lot of charities as one of their goals. At the end of the month, the two held a press conference. Reporters came to witness the successful joined of the famous married couple. They thought that they will only hear news about the business and how they’ll end the union. However, Chadwick and Adira came out with a big surprise for everyone. “Before we end the conference, Adira and I would like to announce something very important.” Gradually, the two looked at each other and smiled. Their deal is clear. After the five months when the project is over, they will reveal the truth about their divorce. And the time has come. However… “Adira and I decided to marry again.” At Chadwick's words, gasp filled the hall. Tons of lights flashed, capturing each second. What does he mean by marrying Adira again? Everyone as
Chadwick went back home to house lightheartedly. Geoffrey and he fixed their relationship. Although he’s worried about Isa, Chadwick decided to meddle in her life anymore. Now, what’s left to do is to deal with Adira. He excitedly entered the house as he heard from Neil and Hansel would come home to their house. Other than living with Adira in the same place, Chadwick thinks that his other advantage against Geoffret is that he has the support of their secretaries.‘The only hurdle is winning over my ex-wife’s heart.’He realized how hard it is to win a favor from someone. Even if Adira doesn’t have feelings for him when she’s seducing him long time ago, Chadwick can tell how difficult the quest is.‘Maybe, she’s trying to get her revenge and..’His thoughts stopped when he saw his wife standing in front of him. She’s really home.“You’re quite late,” she greeted with a smile.Being with her, his heart pounds with each breath, like a hummingbird’s wings.‘Who cares if she’s testing me o
“Dear brother, It’s me, your stubborn sister who keeps on following you. I am writing a letter to you since you are my last family. And I am happy to have at least you by my side. Remember the first day when we saw each other? I was so captivated by your handsomeness. I thought I saw a prince. Your smiles, your shy approach and your kind attitude, they reached my heart. And maybe, that is the first time I fell in love with you. I kept this a secret for a long time, but it overflowed in a way I couldn’t control it anymore. Mistakes after mistakes. I learned that all my life, I dedicated it to you. I regretted my actions, even the words that I didn’t mean. I am sorry for wishing that. Believe me, I didn’t want our parents to die. Just like you, I was in deep pain too. But in the end, I haven’t learned. I keep on reaching for the affection that you couldn’t give. I was selfish and I hurt many people around me. I am sorry. I should have listened to you. But, it’s too late. I lost my
Third Person’s POVTwo weeks have passed. The accident that happened in the CUR8 mall has never leaked through the media. But Nocturne, who was keeping a close eye on the Crimson Meadow’s CEO has heard the accident. He planned to take his revenge, but he thinks it won’t be good to fight against Adira anymore since she has more card to use. And so, he stopped pursuing the unbeatable leader. Many days passed by and finally, it was time for Adira to go out of the hospital. Oddly, she recovered so fast unlike other patients who underwent the same head injury. Her doctor even joked that she might be from a tiger clan since she healed so quickly. As this will be the day of her discharge, two men waited for her outside her room.Who are these two men?Basically, they are the two guys who keep going back and forth in this place for long two weeks. Adira’s POV Often, when someone has a head injury, she won’t remember the details of the accident. What happened, how she got hurt and who’s with her during the incident. But as soon as opened my eyes, everything came to me so vividly. I recalled how I saw the sign board above that was swaying down, when I looked at Chadwick who was standing beneath, when I ran towards his side and when I pushed him away and got hurt instead. Above all, the realization I had while running towards him came to me like a wave. It wasn’t calm, gentle, or destructive. Just… something I expected ever since I admitted that it might be possible to fall in love. I blinked my eyes slowly while looking at the white ceiling above the hospital room. Back then, I really thought I saw the underworld. But it really seems that someone like me was blessed with long life. As I was inwardly about to laugh, a voice called me. “A-Adira?” My numb body, which did not move for long hours, tingled as I turned my head t
Since it hasn’t been announced yet that Chadwick and Adira aren’t a married couple anymore, Chadwick still has the right to play as her husband. And so, he and Falcon took turns watching Adira and waiting for her to wake up. It’s almost been two days already, yet Adira hasn’t woken up. As Chadwick watched her sleep, a faint sad smile drew on his lips. “You are sleeping for too long,” he whispered. “I wanted to tell you a lot about your father.” How Falcon almost collapsed, when he watched over her daughter without sleeping and when he was caught crying while praying for her fast recovery, Chadwick wanted to tell all of this to Adira once she woke up. All past years, Adira believed that her father did not have any affection for her. On which, Chadwick will testify as lies. Falcon loves her daughter, more than anyone in the world. Staring at Adira, Chadwick remembered last night when he and Falcon had a conversation while looking over Adira. “My world collapsed,” Falcon said while
The adrenaline that Geoffrey and Chadwick had as they bring Adira to the hospital haven’t died down yet. When they saw Adira laying down on the ground, unconscious and with blood on her head, they felt an unfamiliar sensation, a combination of adrenaline that made their body cold and electricity tingled their skin.As adrenaline hit them, they realized the situation. Adira is in danger.Chadwick looked at his tainted hands and trembled. He and Geoffrey are currently waiting outside the operating room where Adira was brought in. It’s been an hour, and yet, they haven’t heard anything about her condition. Will she live? Will everything be okay? They wanted to be positive as much as possible. Yet the terrible shock made them anxious.Thinking if something would happen to her is not just painful for Chadwick. It takes everything out of him. He was so distraught over her suffering that it made him feel nauseous and lightheaded. Then guilt came to knock him over.‘This is because of me. I am
Third Person's POVGeoffrey followed where Adira’s gaze peered into. What he saw standing from afar was his old pal, his former buddy and now, his competitor.Years ago, when Isa confessed her feelings to Geoffrey for the first time, Geoffrey saw Chadwick hiding in secret. That day, he only wished for Chadwick to come out and to be brave. If only Chadwick was courageous to get Isa’s love, then it wouldn’t be necessary for Geoffrey to avoid them and lose their friendship. But now, Geoffrey felt the opposite. When Chadwick saw them together, he wished he could just turn around and leave them.'You used all your time and opportunity to be with Adira. Why are you still trying when it is too late?' He asked this in his mind as he stared at him.At last.Something snapped in his brain as he remembered how Adira answered his question before.Adira said that she could fall in love with one of them.
