Josiah
“That hurts!” Hannah’s whines and moans could be heard inside my whole flat as I tried to put alcohol on her wounds. She has a lot of abrasion and bruises this time. This is more serious than the last time.
I looked at her with narrowed eyes. “I really don’t understand why you have to involve yourself in a gang, babe. It’s too dangerous!” I scolded her.
She just rolled her eyes at me. This always happens after her fight. And she doesn’t even tell if they won or not. I always end up knowing the results from my troupe.
Hannah belongs to one of the most notorious female gangs in the underworld called SeQret. One could say that they could easily be the strongest out there if not for their rivals, Astra.
“Josiah, you know I can’t quit on my gang. I am their leader,” she explained. “And besides, we need to beat the shit out of Astra before I quit the underground.”
I looked at her and saw anger in her face. They must have lost…again.
This is why I don’t like her to be part of the underground. She gets hurt because she always wants to fight the strongest. But I guess, that’s what we all want. We want to be the strongest of all so everyone will bow down to us.
My jaw clenched when she flinched the moment I damped the Betadine-soaked cotton on her wounds. Anger started to consume my system. I hate seeing her like this.
“The next time they hurt you, I’m going to crush them into pieces,” I told her with my voice seething in anger.
Hannah smiled and leaned closer. “Sweet,” she hissed before kissing my lips.
I caressed her cheek and bit her lower lip making her moan. I thrusted my tongue inside her mouth, exploring every single corner of her mouth.
“Please don’t make me angry again,” I whispered as I kissed her forehead.
She smiled and nodded. “I won’t.”
I sighed and pulled her into a hug. Hannah and I have been dating for three years now but every after her fight with Astra, she would always go home with bruises and wounds.
I hated it.
I hated Astra because of it.
And I swore that when I saw Astra, I would literally crush them all because of what they did to Hannah. I won’t ever forgive them.
“Babe, your phone is ringing,” Hannah said as she broke from the hug.
I sighed when I saw my mother’s name on the caller ID. I knew she up to no good because she really loves to ruin my life. And besides, she doesn’t like Hannah for me. She thinks Hannah is trying to bring me down…which I don’t know why she thinks that way.
I lazily picked up the phone and answered, “Why, Mom?”
I looked at Hannah who’s examining her arm and trying to tend to her own wounds.
“Hello to you too, son,” Mom’s voice was sarcastic.
I rolled my eyes. “What now, Mom? I’m busy,” I asked, starting to get impatient.
I heart some noise in the background, like she was in the middle of a crowd or the mall.
“Busy with what? Tending to your girlfriend’s wounds?” Now she’s even more sarcastic. “Son, you can’t even tend to your own wounds.”
I narrowed at what she said. “Did you just hire someone to spy on me?”
Mom scoffed. “I had to because you are very secretive these days,” she retorted. “Now, I want you to get to a restaurant near your school right away. It’s called Hamlet and Pork.”
“Why would I do that? Why would I go there?”
I heard Mom sighing from the other end of the line. “Come here now or I will tell your girlfriend’s parents that she’s in your flat, wounded by god-knows-who,” she threatened.
I shut my eyes in irritation. She really knows how to push my buttons sometimes.
“Fine,” I uttered after a deep breath. “But don’t you dare touch my girl here.”
Mom laughed. “Son, you better come here now,” she said before the line went dead.
“Fuck!” I cursed as I gripped tightly on my phone I can feel it bending a bit.
Hannah sat up and wrapped her arms around mine. “Why? What happened?” She asked in worry.
I looked at her and gave her a quick peck on the lips. “I have somewhere to go,” I told her.
She pouted at me. “Where?”
“Mom just asked me to go to Hamlet and Pork. I need to be there right away,” I explained as I caressed her cheek. “Will you be fine here alone?”
She smiled and nodded. “I’ll wait for you,” she replied before leaning in to kiss me once more.
~*~
I walked inside the restaurant with a heavy heart. I didn’t want to leave Hannah at home but I also I didn’t want my mother to tell her on her parents.
I sighed and fixed my shirt as I was greeted by a receptionist. She smiled at me and I just nodded.
“I’m looking for Mr. and Mrs. Kim,” I informed her.
She smiled at me. “Your parents are in the VIP lounge, Sir,” she replied as she led me towards my parents.
My narrowed when I saw my parents in a table with three other people. I stopped for a moment before walking towards them.
“Son!” Mom exclaimed when she saw me. She immediately stood up and walked towards me to give me a hug. “What took you so long?”
I stared at her, wanting so bad to roll my eyes if not for the guests. “Sorry, Mom, I had to run some errands.”
She smiled at me and led me to my seat. “Sit here so you and Eunice can talk,” she said as she made me sit across a woman.
I stared at her and saw how serious she is. Her face seemed stoic and cold—like no one would want to be stared by her.
“Josiah,” Dad called.
“Dad,”
Dad smiled. “This is Mr. and Mrs. Lee of the Lee Group of Companies. I’m sure you know about their company,” he said so enthusiastically I wanted to vomit at this hypocrisy.
Dad and I never really got closer since I told him I was not interested in running our family business. I believe he got disappointed because I am an only child and am expected to be the heir of the Kim Group of Hotels and Restaurants but I didn’t want to do so.
I stared at the elder couple in front of me. So, they own the largest group of pharmaceutical companies around South Korea…
“This is our son, Josiah,” Dad started when he noticed that I wasn’t going to introduce myself. “He’s taking up Business Administration in Seoul National University. He’s already in his final year.”
Mr. Lee’s eyes widened in surprise or delight, or both. “Really? Our daughter, Eunice, is also studying there. She’s taking up BS Pharmacy and is on her third year,” he beamed.
I looked at this girl, Eunice, and saw her rolling her eyes at her father. I almost laughed at her reaction. It’s so obvious that she didn’t want to be here, too, like me. She bowed her head and just continued eating the steak in front of her.
I also started eating while the elders started to have a conversation on their own.
This is so boring. It was better to cuddle with Hannah than be in a dinner where only my parents are excited and happy. I hate this!
Eunice looked up and caught eyes with me. I stared back at her but she her brows furrowed before rolling them at me.
Wow. Fierce. Definitely not my type.
I wanted to scoff at her but then she wasn’t already looking so what’s the point? Instead I just continued staring at her. She’s not that bad, though. I think she’s the girl Sage would go for. He likes beautiful girls with mysterious and dark auras.
It was not long until Dad spoke again, “So, we’re gathered here tonight to celebrate the merging of our companies.”
I narrowed my eyes at what he just said. “Merging?” I couldn’t stop myself from asking.
From the sound his voice and from his excitement, I can already see where this conversation is going. And I am loathing it with every second.
Dad smirked. “Yes, son,” he replied.
Mr. Lee nodded. “We’ve made some arrangements and came in to this conclusion because merging two businesses in different fields would be very beneficial for both of the companies.”
We all heard the sound of a utensil slammed on the table. I looked at Eunice who looked so angry at her father.
“Don’t even go there, Dad,” she said in a voice almost seething in anger.
Mr. Lee sighed while Mrs. Lee caressed her daughter’s arm. “It’s fine, sweetie. This is what the company needs now.”
But her mother’s consolation wasn’t enough. If not, she only grew even angrier.
“Stop it. I’m not going to marry someone I just met in a mad meeting disguised as a simple dinner,” Eunice spoke totally losing it.
My parents couldn’t speak as well. I was stunned at how this girl, Eunice, just freely spoke her mind in front of elders.
I looked at Dad who was already staring at me. “I have a girlfriend, Dad, Mom. You can’t make me marry someone I don’t even like.”
Eunice threw me a glare and I just glared back. What? I’m already helping you, woman!
“Josiah, I know you have a girlfriend now but that doesn’t mean she’s the one meant for you,” Mom said.
I threw Mom a look. “Then who’s meant for me? This girl?!” I asked her with my voice already rising.
Mom’s expression hardened at what I just said.
“Excuse me, Mr. But if you don’t like me, all the more that I don’t like you,” Eunice told me before walking out of the restaurant.
EuniceI have no words.I can’t believe my parents just sold me out there to an arrogant-looking man! The only consolation one could get from a pragmatic marriage is to find a man that’s at least likeable! That Josiah is nowhere near likeable—damn, he’s not even passable!I’m not really the type to walk out on my parents. As a matter of fact, I always try my best to make them proud because that’s how I think it should be.I’ve always imagined my life to be piloted by me, and not by my parents. I’ve never imagined them taking the wheel in my life because I’ve always thought they believed in me more than anyone.I admit I am willing to do whatever they tell me to. However, this is not right. I am willing to do everything—just not this one.Marriage is not a joke. Marriage would mean I would share the same roof with the person I love and trust, not with a stranger who
JosiahEveryone was shocked the moment Eunice walked out.I smirked to myself. It seems like she’s not a goody-two shoes like every other elite girl is. She’s spoiled, well, that’s a given if your family owns a huge pharmaceutical group of companies.“I’m sorry,” Mrs. Lee stood up and tried to follow her daughter.Mom was already trying to console Mr. Lee who seemed sad and disappointed.Huh? Well, they should have thought about their daughter’s reaction first before agreeing to this.I shot a glare to my father and already saw him looking at me.“Josiah, this is needed by the company,” his voice was not pleading, instead, it sounded like a presidential order.I clenched my jaw and glared at him even more. How can he talk to me like that? How can he talk like that after the daughter of his business partner has already given her answer?I stood up with
EuniceMom went inside my room the next morning. No one bothered me the whole night and I liked it. I actually wished daytime would never come because I don’t want to be reminded of the nightmare that dinner caused me.“Eunice, let’s talk,” she said as I was still wrapped around my blankets.I don’t want to talk. I can’t do what they want me to do. I can’t do it. Why do they want me to do it?I wasn’t a rebel child.I was an obedient daughter, as a matter of fact.So why are they doing this to me?“Eunice…” Mom’s voice was soft. I know she’s trying to comfort me right now. She stroke my shoulder and I sighed, defeated.“Mom…” I said in a raspy voice. “I don’t want to get married.”I would definitely reconsider if the man’s not that arrogant. But he’s not. He’s the most arr
JosiahI see her sighing from her table. But I can also see her clenching her fists like she wants to fight someone right at this moment.“What, dude? You already in love with your fiancée?” Sage teased as he caught me staring at Eunice.I glared at him.I’m still angry. I’m still loathing the fact that Mom has successfully blackmailed me to marry this woman. I’m still hating the fact that she’s got her way to piss me off again.“What’s wrong with Hannah?” I asked, out of the blue, out of topic.Stan raised his brow at me. “Why are you asking?”“Because I want to know why you hate her,” I replied as I plopped myself on the stool.I want to know why every person in my life hates the woman that I love. It’s not like she’s unlikable. To be fair, she is so caring and thoughtful. She’d always think of me first. Tha
EuniceWhat. The. Hell. The last faint of hope I had has gone directly down the drain the moment he uttered those words to me.How could he agree to that? Why would he agree to that?I’ve already killed Josiah Kim a million times in my head since the day he told me that he’s also given in on what our parents want. I thought he might have the decency to decline. I thought he would rebel on his parents since he looks like someone who doesn’t want anyone directing his life.I thought he would retaliate. But he didn’t.I thought wrong. It’s been a week since the pragmatic marriage plans started and I am starting to lose faith in humanity.Mrs. Kim was giggling with Mom on the couch in the living room as I walked down the stairs. In front of them are numerous magazines with beautiful places and gowns.Dad and Mr. Kim are on the veranda and talking about something re
Josiah“Are you okay?”Hannah asked me as we ate in our favorite restaurant. It is our anniversary and she wanted us to be together for the whole day. Good thing, most of the day is free cut for me.I looked at her and smiled, assuring. “Yeah, I’m good.”I put more of the pasta on her plate and also put in some pizza. I stare at her face and she’s looking at me like she’s confused as to why I am being like this to her.“Jos,” she called as she breathed heavily.I smiled at her, silently praying that I would be able to shrug off anything that she will throw at me today.I haven’t told her about the merger. Hell, I don’t know if I could. How do I even tell her that I am getting married to someone that’s not her? I can’t. I don’t want her to get hurt.“Are you really okay?” she asked. “We can cancel, you know&hell
EuniceFuck!I was literally cursing in my head as I watched that arrogant Josiah disappear from the cafeteria.I glared at everyone that was on my way and started strutting back to our table.Mitch and Nanette looked at me weirdly while Mona was just staring.“What’s with you and your future husband?” Nanette just couldn’t help her mouth from speaking.I shot her a glare and she just shrugged. I am still mad. I am still so frustrated that I had to marry an arrogant guy instead of something decent. And now, Mom wants me to pick up my wedding dress with him. I couldn’t even hide the disappointment and anger on my face earlier when she told me that.“He’s handsome,” Mitch thought aloud. The three of us looked at her with questioning expressions. She blinked at all of us.“Come on, be real. He’s handsome. He’s probably one of the most
Josiah“Didn’t you say you’re going to accompany your fiancée?” Sage asked as I arrived at the HQ.I nodded and sat on the couch.Eunice said she can handle it and she’d send me a text once she’s almost done so I could fetch her. I don’t want to argue with her on that one.Somehow, I am relieved. At least she’s not clingy. It’s good that she doesn’t care because I don’t care about what she does in her life, too.“She’ll just text if she’s done,” I replied.Bradley looked at me meaningfully. “So, you finally exchanged numbers?” he wriggled his brows. “Give me her number, bro!”I rolled my eyes as Bradley, Sage and Charles are already in front of me, pleading for Eunice’s contact.“I don’t have her number.”They all glared at me.“You said she will se
JosiahBlinding lights.White ceiling.White walls. It’s hard to open my eyes but I can feel an oxygen mask on my face. I must be in the hospital. The last thing I can remember is getting shot by Night Train, who happened to be Kyle Kim as well.Eunice came running to me while crying. I held her face and apologized because I couldn’t do anything to protect her but she cried even more.“Son…” I heard Mom’s voice as I shut my eyes forcefully. She must have noticed the change in my facial expression.I took a deep breath and tried my hardest to open my eyes. I couldn’t feel my whole body. It’s as if I was paralyzed.Mom’s worried but relieved eyes welcomed mine as I opened my eyes. She’s crying as she looked and called my Dad.Mom’s holding my hand and squeezing it. “Thank goodness, you’re awake!” she let out as she
EuniceFuck? Two members of SeQret are down but Nanette is injured. Zinger, apparently and expectedly, used a knife to stab Nanette’s right leg. She’s wincing in pain as Mona assisted her to come near us.Her right inner leg is bleeding profusely. Mona ripped Nanette’s pants where the wound is and applied pressure to control the bleeding.“I hate that bitch!” Nanette seethed with anger.I know. I hate her too.I looked at Zinger who was already smiling in triumph while she looked at us. Now, I won’t hold back anymore. Since they used a knife, I might as well give them a good fight.“Are you next, Gemini?” Zinger said menacingly as she expertly maneuvered the knife on her hand.I glared at her. “Satan really doesn’t play fair, huh?” I said as I picked up a long and thick PVC pipe on the ground.Zinger looked at me with widened eyes. She isn
JosiahThis is not what I had expected when I asked her to watch this horror movie.Usually, most girls would definitely be afraid and clingy but Eunice was different—entirely different. While every single woman inside the cinema was busy screaming in fear, Eunice just sat beside me, ate popcorn and…watched. She didn’t even seem so scared.I tried to hold her hand—and that’s the farthest I could go, I didn’t even hold her hand!—and she let me. I tried to feed her with popcorn but she just glared at me.Oh, heavens! What will I do with her to make her a normal girl? Sure she has some moments where she blushes but those were moments when we are alone in our room…naked inside our blankets. Damn.Eunice looked at me intently as we settled ourselves in an Italian restaurant. She’s already complained of how much calories she’s already had for today but she wanted to eat some p
EuniceIt’s going to start soon.Mitch had already received the letter of the fight information. We’ve been practicing hard on our own. I don’t know what Glyph is up to but I think they are trying to strengthen up, too.15th of October. Same place. Same time. –SeQretThat’s five days from now. Mitch and the rest of the girls are already well prepared. I, too, prepared for that. Five days is a long time to wait but it’s an advantage because we can strengthen more.Except when I think I am feeling so lethargic.“Are you alright?” Mitch asked me.I looked at her. She might have noticed that I am not feeling very well. I smiled to reassure her. “I’m good.”She narrowed her eyes at me, seemingly not buying what I am saying but she just nodded. “You can rest,” she chimed.I smiled and shook my head.
“Hmmm…” I chuckled weakly as Eunice murmured on my chest. We’re in our room, lying on our bed, cuddling. And I couldn’t even think of anything better than this. Her arms are wrapped around my waist while her face rested on my bare chest. I hugged her tighter and kissed the top of her head.“Baby, we didn’t use protection again,” I whispered. She slowly looked at me, slightly blushing. “I know,” she replied.I pursed my lips in a thin line. I know that she isn’t ready to have a baby yet and I respect that. I can wait until she’s ready but we’ve just had multiple sexual intimacies without protection.I don’t want her to think that I am trying to get her pregnant. Heck, the last thing that I want her to think is that I am trying to start a family with her even though she’s not yet ready.I sighed and kissed her forehead. “I’m sorry. I c
Eunice“Hey, Eunice. Are you and Josiah together?” one of my classmates from Philosophy asked me.Actually, I was taken aback at her question. This classmate of mine—none of them, as a matter of fact—has never spoken to me ever since the beginning of the semester. But now that a lot of rumors are circulating about me and Josiah, she somehow felt comfortable to ask me. I hate these kinds of people.I gave her a blank stare. “Why do you need to know?” I asked. She bit her lip and tucked a loose strand of her perfectly curled long hair behind her ear. “Everyone is talking about you and Josiah being so close together,” she replied.I raised my brow. “What is it to you, then?”I know when girls ask this. She’s probably one of the hoard girls wanting to be Josiah’s girlfriend. Josiah may not tell me about it but I know that he has tons of girls craving for his
Josiah“They teamed up with Astra,” Stan said as we huddled in the HQ.Just hearing the name Astra, my heart flutters that it hurts my ribcage. Remembering how my wife is in that gang and how they’ve joined forces with our archenemy is going to be the death of me.Sage sighed.“Does that mean we’ll need to take SeQret’s offer?” Charles asked.“No!” I vehemently disagreed. They all looked at me questioningly. I know what they are thinking. They must be thinking that I couldn’t get over Hannah yet but no. I don’t want to team up with some other gang to beat my wife’s gang.Stan creased his brow. “What’s wrong?”I pursed my lips in a thin line before letting out a deep breath. “Please don’t do that…” I told them. They all looked at me in confusion. I feel so stupid begging them not to do that.
Eunice“The leader of Glyph has been trying to contact me,” Mitch said as we all huddled in the headquarters. The three of us waited and listened to what our leader was about to say but I guess all of us knew what Mitch was going to say.“They want a collaboration.”Glyph is the second most powerful male gang. Next to Ventrex. I heard that Glyph lost five consecutive fights with Ventrex. As a matter of fact, no gang has ever won against Ventrex. That’s how powerful and dangerous they are in the underground world. So, I guess, Glyph was already running out of trump cards. Now, they’re trying to join with us.Nanette shook her head. “I don’t like the feeling of this. If Glyph will collaborate with us, then I’m pretty sure Ventrex would bite SeQret’s bait.”Mona glanced at me. “This is so twisted.”Mitch sighed. I just shook my he
JosiahI was so stunned when I saw my wife walking down the stairs. She’s wearing a royal blue dress lined with sequins. Her hair is pulled in a clean low-bun that accentuates the perfect shape of her face. She’s wearing light makeup but it seems like she’s ready to make up my whole world.Eunice stopped in front of me with a narrowed look. “What?” she asked.I grinned and shook my head before taking her hand on mine. “You look like you’re ready to take everyone’s breath away,” I told her.She blushed at my words as we got into the car.Tonight is the launch of the newest chain of pharmacies of Eunice’s dad. It’s a huge event and a lot of high-profiled businessmen are set to be there.Flashes from the cameras welcomed us as we got out of the car. The valet immediately took my keys and I let him park my car.“There are a lot of press people,
