Ophelia Pov

After Daniel dropped me at home and I entered my apartment, I let out a deep breath, feeling the weight of the evening settle over me.

My confrontation with Ryder had drained me, leaving behind an exhaustion that seeped into my bones. I kicked off my shoes and walked straight to my bedroom, not bothering to turn on the lights.

The room was dimly lit by the glow of the street lights outside, casting faint shadows across the walls.

I peeled off my dress and went to the bathroom, going under the shower and turning the water open.

After staying under the shower for less than one minute, for the water to wash the sweat and stress from my body, I slipped into a comfortable singlet that covered only my breast and shorts, my body aching for rest.

Climbing into bed, I pulled the blankets up to my chin, hoping that sleep would come quickly and wash away the turmoil churning inside me.

But even as I closed my eyes, Ryder’s face lingered in my mind. The way he looked at me, th

Ophelia’s POV By the time I finished packing— with Nichole’s not-so-subtle supervision— I was already exhausted. The weight of everything I had been holding in the past few days, combined with the upcoming trip, left my mind spinning. Still, a part of me was looking forward to it. Maybe, just maybe, a change of scenery would help. After freshening up, I dressed in a casual but stylish and comfortable travel outfit, high-waisted maternity leggings, and a loose-fitting blouse that made me feel comfortable and put together. Daniel drove us to the airport, where we would meet up with the others. The private terminal was quiet, with only a handful of people waiting for the flight. David was already there with Camilla when we got there. When Camilla spotted me, her eyes lit up, and she rushed over, pulling me into a warm hug. “Eva! I am so happy you came.” I smiled, returning her hug. “Well, I was not given a choice to reject it,”Camilla laughed, pulling back to study me. “You

Ryder hadn't said anything else after our brief exchange, but his presence was suffocating. Every now and then, I could feel his gaze on me, and it took everything in me to act like I didn’t notice them. Camilla and David were still chatting excitedly about the vacation plans, while Daniel and Nichole whispered between themselves, lost in their little love bubble. I envied them. Just as I thought I could survive the rest of the flight in silence, Ryder leaned in slightly. His voice was low, almost thoughtful. “You still grip the seat during takeoff.” I tensed, my fingers curling slightly. “It is normal. A lot of people don’t like flying.” He hummed as if considering my words. “You didn’t let go of my hand immediately, though. Like you didn't want to” My head snapped t

Ophelia “I brought out the leftover spaghetti I made in the morning and took my phone. 15 missed calls from my sister. Instead of returning the call, I walked to the kitchen and grabbed out the leftover spaghetti. I must have put my phone on silent during work. The day has been a blur with me rushing out the door in the morning, getting caught in the rain and accepting a ride from a colleague. But now back in my apartment, the missed calls lingered in my mind. After a deep breath, I finally called her back and she picked on the first ring.“Olivia, you called me 15 times” I took out a fork, “I said I'm not coming home to the anniversary”“Ophelia it's me, Ryder” The fork with spaghetti hung in the air. The voice brought back some memories and I gulped hard. “Why are you with Olivia's phone?” I asked him. He was the very last person I wanted to talk with.“Olivia is dead and-” The phone fell from my hand and I quickly took it but it was off.My hands were shaking as I tried turning

Ophelia A year laterI looked at the empty room and sighed. Getting married to my sister's husband wasn't my idea rather was it a good decision. I went to the bathroom to change from my wedding dress and wore my pajamas. I sat down in front of the dresser removing all the pins in my hair and washing off my makeup. My mind wandered off to a month before my wedding.******I was called by my mum to come to New York immediately and I took an early leave from work.On getting there, there was a meeting between Ryder's family and my family. I was surprised I was called for the meeting because of my last encounter with Ryder.“I don't know why you all are here,” Ryder said with exhaustion showing on his face and I felt pity for him.“You are killing yourself dear, you need help,” Ryder’s mother, Sandra, said beside him.“I can handle everything, Mum, Things have just been hard recently” Ryder explained. “You can take a break off work, son, have time for your son and yourself,” Ryder's fa

Ophelia I placed my hands on my chest. That scared me.I opened the door and found Ryder standing outside the door, still dressed in his suit from the wedding. His eyes briefly met mine before dropping to the pajamas I was wearing.“Why are you still up? Do you need something?” I asked, trying to keep my voice steady. His gaze lingered on my clothes, and I could see a flicker of something in his eyes—anger, or perhaps pain. “Why are you wearing Olivia's clothes?” he asked, his voice cold.“I am not wearing her clothes” I denied immediately, feeling a lump form in my throat. His expression hardened. “First, you took her family, and now you’re taking her clothes?” The accusation stung, and I felt tears welling up.“They are mine” I snapped, raising my voice as I met his gaze. For a moment, his eyes left the cloth, locking into mine, and I saw confusion and anger in them. “Olivia's are still in your wardrobe,” I explained to him. Before he could say anything else, I shut the door, leani

Ophelia Ryder’s last words from Mum’s office echoed through my mind as I strolled to the kitchen to make Ryan's food. “No, Olivia didn't die in an accident.” What does that even mean? “She was killed.” The phrase stuck with me, swirling in confusion. Both Mum and Ryder had always insisted she was hospitalized, fighting to survive. So how had she died? And why would anyone want her dead?Who could possibly want Olivia dead? She was loved by everyone. She was everyone's favorite. As the thoughts spiraled, my head started to ache. A sudden dizziness hit me and I reached to steady myself, accidentally knocking over the kettle of hot water.“Ouch!” I screamed in pain as the hot water splashed down my waist. Fighting back tears, I dashed to the bathroom and went under the shower without taking off my clothesI sighed in relief as the running water managed to ease the burn. The relief was instant, but the ache lingered. Consumed by my thoughts, I barely noticed my hand grazing the kettle

His laughter makes me smile.“Mama, stop,” he said amidst laughter. “Next time champ, don't stress mummy” I said, not stopping.“Stop,” he said and ran away from me. I ran after him, trying to catch up to him. Instead of eating, he has been running around refusing to eat. “Dada,” I heard Ryan say, and I stopped running. I straightened my body and looked at the door. Ryder carried Ryan and kissed his head. His eyes met mine for a brief moment before returning them back to Ryan.I returned to the kitchen to clear up the mess Ryan made. “Mum asked of you.” I heard Ryder's voice behind me, and I slightly jumped, not expecting him in the kitchen.“What?” I asked while turning to him. Ryan was still in his arms. “We have a family function this weekend,” He said, maintaining eye contact with me, and I removed my eyes from his. Since the night he said I should stay away

Ophelia's pov “Yes,” I said.I was not lying but I wasn't completely honest either.I was happy with my life now. I have Nichole as my best friend in my life. There was Daniel. I might just have met him but he treated me like a senior brother would treat his sister. I have a job that is putting food on my table and a roof over my head.I might not have gotten everything I wanted but it was enough for now.I could feel the tension building, but I wasn’t going to let him see it.I stood up straighter, pushing my shoulders back as I met his gaze. No more vulnerability. No more second-guessing myself in front of him. I wasn’t that naive girl anymore, and I wasn’t going to fall for whatever game he was trying to play.He opened his mouth, but before he could speak, I cut him off.“Why didn’t you stop the news from escalating?” I asked, my voice colder than I intended. Ryder froze, his brows furrowing. "What are you talking about?"I swallowed my frustration, feeling the tightness in my

Ophelia's Pov Camilla was still smiling, still pleased with her little discovery that Daniel indeed has a girlfriend, but I could hardly pay attention. My attention was on something else or rather someone else. That look. It hadn’t left me. It was an invisible weight pressing against my skin, the undeniable presence of a gaze I had grown too familiar with. I could feel it—heavy, searching, stripping away the layers I had carefully built to protect myself. Ryder wasn’t just looking at me. He was studying me. I forced a smile at Camilla as she spoke of something entirely different, though my mind wandered elsewhere. I needed to pull myself together. “You okay?” Daniel’s voice was low, but it cut through my thoughts like a blade. I looked up at him as he moved closer, his usual playful glint replaced by something sharper, more serious. “I’m fine,” I replied far too quickly. His brow arched. “You sure? You seem a little…” He looked for the word, finally settling o

I immediately touched my baby bump.I nodded. “I am okay,” I replied.“I wasn’t looking. I should have been more careful,” she apologized again and I nodded.“I am Camilla,” she smiled at me.“I am Eva,” before I knew it she pulled me into a hug before pulling away.“Nice meeting you. I am just meeting you for the first time but I know you are not the same as the girls here because you look somewhat lost. No offense taken,” I found her cheerful attitude amusing. “I came with Daniel,”“Pierce?” she asked, surprise in her eyes and I nodded. She muttered to herself, “But he didn’t tell me…” but I heard it.She turned back to me, her expression shifting to excitement. “I am his sister-in-law! I am so happy to finally meet his girlfriend.” I burst into laughter at the as

Ophelia's PovAs we arrived at the venue, the lights from the grand chandelier above dazzled in the lobby, casting a warm glow on the polished marble floors. The party was in full swing, with a crowd of elegantly dressed people mingling in small clusters. The soft murmur of laughter and clinking glasses filled the air, giving the entire event an air of sophistication and exclusivity. I couldn't help but feel out of place, despite the beautiful dress I wore and the confidence I had in my appearance.Even though I was from a rich family and was married to one of the elite in New York, I still haven't gotten used to such parties.I was suddenly surrounded by people whose wealth and status far surpassed anything I had ever known. Still, I held my head high and reminded myself that tonight was for fun— not to prove anything to anyone."You are doing great," Daniel whispered beside me as he placed a reassuring hand on the small of my back, guiding me through the crowd."Thanks," I muttere

Ophelia's Pov Tonight was the party Daniel asked me to be his plus one. Even though I think Nichole should go in my place, she still didn't want to make their relationship public.I stood in front of the mirror, trying to assess my appearance. My baby bump had become more noticeable lately, but I was determined to enjoy the night. I hadn't let myself have many moments for fun or relaxation lately, so this was going to be one of them. The door to the bedroom opened, and Nichole stepped in with a grin on her face. "Alright, let us make you look absolutely stunning for tonight."I smiled. "I am not sure I need that much effort. It is just a party, not like I was meeting his parents."Her eyes narrowed mischievously. "Trust me, Eva. When you have Daniel as your date, you will want to look unforgettable." She walked over to the wardrobe, pulling out a dress I hadn’t noticed before. "This one. It is going to be perfect for you. Daniel and I got it for you"I raised an eyebrow. "Isn't th

Ophelia's pov I sat back on the couch, sitting opposite Nichole and Daniel, arms crossed, trying to process what I had just learned. Nichole and Daniel? Two months? Finland? I had to admit, it was a lot to take in.“So, Finland?” I asked, raising an eyebrow. “You mean to tell me that you have been keeping this from me for two whole months, and you think it is just going to slide by with a casual ‘Oh, I went to Finland, and now I am sneaking around with Daniel?”Nichole sighed, looking like she wanted to curl up and disappear. “Eva, I didn’t know how to tell you. I mean, I didn't know what you would think about me, about the whole situation I was in.Daniel, who was sitting beside her, wore an amusing smirk on his face. “You should have known better, Nic. You know Eva doesn’t miss anything. Besides,” he looked at me with a sly grin, “she is too smart for your distractions.”I shot him a look, narrowing my eyes. “Oh, don’t start with me. You are in on this, too. You didn't act like yo
