Dominic's POV
I rolled my eyes at the chairman's speech, tapping my feet in boredom and frustration. For God's sake, when was this meeting going to come to an end? I knew I should be more invested and concerned, but I just couldn't focus on anything else besides what had been bothering me for a while. Ruby. After she had left, I'd gone to the doctor to confirm my diagnosis and to affirm to myself that divorcing her was the right thing to do. But after carrying out several tests, they found out that my semen still indeed contained sperm cells—sperm cells that were capable of getting someone pregnant. I'd broken her, sent her far away because I thought she was just like other women, I thought she was lying. But now that everything was different, I tried to find her. I searched all over the country but got nowhere close to being with her. The thought of my child being out there, being somewhere that I didn't know, was driving me insane. I don't evade responsibilities; I'm definitely not going to make a child fatherless. Frustrated, I sighed out rather loudly, attracting the attention of several people beside me. "Ladies and gentlemen of the board," the chairman continued, "we have a major shareholder reveal today. We all know about the famous invisible, Mr. Gustavo, who holds about 30% of this company's shares. Although we have never seen him before, he contacted the company and is revealing himself today." He paused, his eyes darting towards the door. "Please welcome, Mr. Gustavo." The chairman cheered, walking towards the door to open it. Background clapping blurred in my head as the scene that played out fazed me. I froze, my eyes stuck on the door as Ruby walked in. This wasn't a Mr. Gustavo. This was Ruby Brown, the mother of my child, the woman I had divorced six months ago saying I never wanted to see her again. My breath hitched as I looked at her. What exactly was going on? Why is she here? Was this a mistake? My eyes roamed all over her body, unable to control my confusion. She looked so different; she was glowing, her skin looked so plump, and the red suit she wore accentuated her growing belly. My feet itched; I wanted to stand right there and claim my child, to tell her I was sorry, that I now believed her, but I knew things weren't going to go down easily. The door opened again, and Ethan Grant walked in, his eyes searching the room until they landed upon Ruby. His eyes lit up immediately as he saw Ruby and he walked closer to her. "Um... Mr. Grant, I don't understand what's going on here in any way. We were supposed to have Mr. Gustavo here today." The chairman paused, eyeing Ruby. "Who is this woman and why is she—" "This woman inherited all of Mr. Gustavo's shares," Ruby said, cutting him off. "I am Ruby Brown and I'm now officially a major shareholder in this company." She said authoritatively, her tone and confidence holding the attention of everyone in the office. She even sounded different, more confident, less afraid and bothered. "While I'm pleased to meet you all," she smiled, "I hope we have a great time working together." She concluded and looked up in my direction, her eyes meeting mine for barely a second as the smile on her face wiped off. Oh! This was not good at all. This meeting needs to come to an end. "Alright, Ms. Ruby Brown, we're all very delighted to have you here as well and we assure you of a pleasurable ride with this company. One filled with profits for your shares." The chairman smiled, trying so hard to suck up to her. "Now to the next agenda of the meeting, the marketing team has a presentation to—" A presentation again! Oh come on. "The presentation can hold in the next meeting, or better still let the marketing team email me a good summary of their presentation and research." "But sir," the head of marketing said, his shaky voice barely above a whisper, "we were informed about the importance of this study and we put in so much to make this presentation happen. It's a short presentation, we would be done in less than 15 minutes." I looked at him in the eyes, unfazed by his explanations. I understand that they did a lot to prepare the presentation, but the woman who's carrying my only child is right in front of me. I need to talk to her. "This meeting, unfortunately, has to come to an end." I said sharply, giving no one a chance to confront me. I immediately stood up but before I could even walk out from my seat area, Ethan was giving Ruby a hand, gently holding her to help her get up. She smiled at him, muttering a gentle thank you that churned my insides. But before I could say Jack Robinson, his hand was on her waist, guiding her towards the door. My eyes rolled at his actions. What exactly did he want with Ruby? He is the richest and most eligible bachelor in town, he can have anyone, anyone but not Ruby. At least not while she's carrying my baby. I followed after Ethan and Ruby, calling Ruby's name as I walked into the hallway. Aware of people's eyes from the boardroom, I tried to walk fast to act unbothered but I knew my desperation was simmering right in the surface and was obvious to all. "Ruby!" I called out again, trying so hard to get her attention. My voice seemed to reach them this time around as they both turned around and looked at me. I walked up to them, closing the distance between us. Standing in front of her now, I had no right words to say. I nodded at Ethan, trying to acknowledge him without shoving a punch up his throat as I noticed his hand on Ruby's belly. "Humm" he hummed rudely, barely answering me before settling his eyes back on Ruby. Focusing on why I was here, I set my gaze on Ruby and asked, "can we talk?" My voice barely containing my desperation. "Alone?" Ethan looked at Ruby, shaking his head in disapproval but Ruby nodded at him, signaling him to let her talk to me. "I'll be watching you," Ethan said, his body towering near me before he turned and left us both alone. My hand immediately grabbed Ruby's hand as I walked briskly into the nearest empty study room. "Dominic, what are you doing? Why are you dragging me?" she asked, her voice tinged with annoyance. "I need to talk to you," I said, releasing her hand but keeping my gaze locked on her. "I... I know the child is mine. I know I made a terrible mistake." She looked at me dead in the eyes and started laughing. Was I being funny right now? Is something on my face? I looked around and found nothing funny but Ruby kept laughing, so much to an extent that I walked backwards from her. "What's so funny?" I asked, my voice laced with anxiety and confusion. "Dominic, you think you can just waltz back into my life, claim the child, and everything will be okay?" she said between fits of laughter. Her tone shifted abruptly, turning cold. "You ruined everything. You didn't believe me when I needed you the most. Now you think a simple apology will fix it all?"Ruby’s POV I couldn't help but laugh. It was a bitter, incredulous laugh, bubbling up from a place of deep hurt and anger. "What's so funny?" Dominic asked, his voice laced with irritation and confusion. I wiped a tiny tear from the corner of my eye, my laughter cutting off abruptly. "Dominic, you think you can just waltz back into my life, claim the child, and everything will be okay?" I shook my head, the humor draining from my expression. "You ruined everything. You didn't believe me when I needed you the most and now you think an apology will fix it all?" His face fell, the weight of my words hitting him hard. "Ruby, I know I messed up.” He said, his face softening, infact, I’d never seen him look this vulnerable before. “I know I was wrong. But I am here now, and I want to make things right." I stopped laughing, my face hardening as I crossed my arms. "And how do you plan to do that? By demanding things as you always do? By taking control of everything?" He stepped
Dominic’s POV My feets tapped incessantly against the floor, my fingers rearranging the pens on my table as I tried to focus on the file in front of me. It’s been five hours, five good hours of trying to make a summary for the marketing team but to no avail. My eyes have roamed all around the hallway, seeking the woman that was carrying my child. Closing my eyes in frustration, I grabbed my screen, pulling it closer to me as I determined to get some work done. But all that played in my head was my unborn child and the space between us. I felt my head lighten as every minute felt like an eternity as I replayed the conversation I had with her over and over in my head. The hurt in her eyes, the finality in her voice, it was all I could think about. The way her eyes had teared up when I had called her a liar and rejected our child was now something that plagued my mind. I pulled my shirt away from my chest, trying to soften the suffocation I was feeling inside of me as I remembe
Ruby’s POV The park buzzed with laughter and the chirping of birds. It was the perfect day for an outing. I watched Emma as she ran ahead, her little feet barely touching the ground in her excitement. Ethan walked beside me, his presence reassuring and comforting. “Ethan, you didn’t have to come,” I said, glancing at him. I had planned a day in the park with myself, Emma and Emily but once I asked him he immediately cleared his schedule and made it happen. He waved it off with a smile. “Nonsense. It’s good that I’m here. Besides, who wouldn’t want to spend a lovely day in the park with you two?” I couldn’t help but smile at his words, feeling a warmth spread through me. Soon, we found a quiet spot near the basketball court, and Ethan immediately grabbed a ball, heading over to the hoops. “I want cotton candy mom,” Emma whined, her little hands dragging mine. I gestured to Emily and she immediately came over, taking Emma’s hand. “Come on, sweetie. Let’s go get some cotton
Ruby’s POV “I know what he did was painful, but do you plan to keep him away from his child forever?” Lily asked, her eyes boring directly into mine. “I plan to,” I replied, unbothered by her scathing gaze. “He rejected me and this child. Do I need to remind you of how he called me a whore and gold digger? Do I need to remind you of the times I worked several jobs to take care of Emma while I got no support from him for his child? Tell me, Lily, which one of these things are you suddenly forgetting?” She shook her head, drawing closer to me. “Ruby, I understand what you went through, and I hate him for that, but this isn’t about you alone. It’s about the baby you’re carrying. That baby deserves a father. Every baby deserves a father, Ruby. You know this!” I rolled my eyes, her words unnerving my soul. “Well, not Dominic Sinclair! He’s a poor excuse for a man. He deserves no mercy, no pity, and definitely no access to my child. This child right here,” I sneered angrily, point
Ruby's POV My body was stiff, each one of my bones reminding me of the call from earlier. My eyes fluttered as I looked up at my ceilings. I turned in my bed for what felt like the hundredth time trying to get some sleep but nothing was working. All I could think about was Benjamin Gustavo. His threats echoed in my mind. Was he really Oliver's son? And why, just why did Oliver give me his shares and properties when he had a son of himself. Was Oliver up to something? Did he approach me from the very beginning with a different plan in mind? I shook my head, trying to dispel such thoughts. Of course he isn't like that. This was the man who had raised me from my low place and given me several opportunities. But then if Benjamin claims to be his son and he really is, surely Oliver must’ve something to do with it. I sighed, breathing in deeply. The fear for Emma and my unborn child gnawed at me. I needed answers, first thing the next morning I was going to be at Oliver’s office.
Ruby's POV In anger, I entered my car, my foot pressing on the brake as I turned the ignition. My hands gripped the steering wheel tightly, knuckles turning white. What the hell was I thinking? That a man who barely knew me was just going to hand over his property to me because he loved my mother? How stupid of me. I should’ve known there was something attached to it. He had presented himself like an angel, unable to hurt a fly, and I had let him deceive me. Although he was there during my hardest moments, all he was, was a liar, a snake. He had a goal all along, and I had no idea. Frustrated, I rested my head on the headrest, letting out a heavy sigh as his words rang in my ears. “Now tell me, do you really want to risk Emma and your unborn child’s safety?” My heart pounded in my chest, a mix of fear and anger swirling inside me. How could I have been so blind? How do I get a man I can’t stand to hand over his business to me? How? I shook my head, tears blurr
Dominic's POV. "What are you doing to me?" I asked, pulling away from the kiss. What the hell is going on. Why was she suddenly into me? Is she drunk? I took a few deep breaths, pulling further away from her as I tried to stabilize my thoughts. "What is it, why'd you stop?" She asked, a worry and concern etched on her face. "Ruby, are you really asking me why I stopped? Just few days ago your step dad slapped me, telling me to stay away from you. Just few days ago you were all into Ethan, but now you come here, grab me and kiss me. I don't understand you.” "Ummm.." she took a long look at me, and in the most seductive manner she asked, "do you not want me?" "Want you?" I reechoed. "I've wanted you since the very moment you stepped into this company with my child. But you made it clear you don't want me coming near to our child." "What if I changed my mind?" She was asked. I moved closer to her, unable to comprehend her words. My two hands rested on both sides
Ruby's POV I lay in the hospital bed, cradling my newborn son in my arms. His tiny hand gripped one of my fingers, causing my heart to swell with joy. Tears welled up in my eyes as memories from the past nine months flashed through my mind. As my eyes fixated on his little frame, I knew all those insults at the diner were worth it. Everything was finally worth it. "He's perfect," Lily said softly, her eyes glistening with tears as she squeezed his tiny palm. Nodding my head in response, I smiled weakly, exhausted but elated. "Yes, he is, Lily. I still can't believe he's here." Ethan leaned down and smiled at me. "You did great, Ruby. We're proud of you." The door to my ward room creaked open, and my eyes followed the sound. My heart skipped a beat as I saw Dominic. Anger and confusion flooding through me. "What the hell are you doing here?" I asked, my voice sharp as I glared at him. Resting my hands on opposite sides of my body, I tried to sit up to face him properly,
Ruby’s POV I sat on my couch, cradling my son in my arms. His soft breathing was the only sound in the room, a peaceful rhythm that contrasted sharply with the distress in my mind. Lily sat next to me, her concern evident as she watched me. "You should give Dominic a chance to be with his son, Ruby," Lily said softly, her eyes pleading. I shook my head, refusing to meet her gaze. "No, Lily. I can't. After everything he's done, I can't trust him." Lily sighed, adjusting her bag over her shoulder. "But he's the father. He deserves to know his son, and your boy deserves a father.” I shook my head, "he had his chance," I replied, my voice hard and unyielding. "And he blew it. He made his choices, and now he has to live with the consequences." “I still think you should —“ Our conversation was interrupted by the sound of the front door creaking open. My heart skipped a beat as my eyes met Oliver Gustavo standing in the doorway, his face red with anger. Lily jumped up, her face
