I spend the next five days purposely avoiding Clark. Every morning I wake up an hour before Clark usually wakes up to give me sufficient time to have my bath, get dressed and then leave for work. And in the evenings I purposely return home around 4pm, a time guaranteed that Clark will still be at work.I know we agreed to not leave things awkward but that was said in the heat of the moment. “The results from the tests we ran show that you have appendicitis” the doctor says, as Clark clutches my hand, softly squeezing my hand with his attention fixated on the doctor.“We have scheduled your surgery for tomorrow afternoon by one pm. You won’t be able to eat any type of food during that time, but we’ll give you drips that’ll keep you strong and fed” he explains.“We’ve also given you some drugs to help reduce the pain. There’s a button on the bed handle that you can press whenever you seek assistance” he says, pointing to a red button on the handle of my bed.“Mr Clark, please could you come with me to sign some paperwork?” The doctor asks.
