Chapter 2013

The look in Madeline's eyes prevented Hannah from lying.

Hannah, somewhat guilt-ridden, hesitated and looked out of the car window, then chuckled sadly.

“What other choice do I have? I have to go on with my life, so I have to compromise, don't I?”

Hannah replied reluctantly.

“Now, I finally understand that I simply can't compete with you. I was too self-righteous and naive from the start. Also, Mr. Whitman is not a man I can strive for.”

Hannah said with a sad sigh and lowered her eyes.

“Mr. Whitman is a very attractive man. I only blame myself for not recognizing my identity and status. I insisted on wishful thinking, and now I’m like a moth to a flame. Sigh…”

Hannah sighed deeply after saying that.

Madeline looked at Hannah calmly and listened to what she said.

“Is there anything else you want to say to me besides this?” Madeline asked meaningfully.

Hannah was taken aback for a moment. She then lifted her head, met Madeline's gaze, and spoke with certainty.
