"I am sorry to say, sir, but her reports are not fine," he said, his voice laden with sadness and concern. The gravity of the situation was evident even through the phone line.

"Now, would you tell me exactly what the problem is?" I asked, getting impatient.

"She is suffering from aplastic anemia," he revealed, his words hanging in the air, heavy with implications.

The weight of his statement slowly sank in, and my mind struggled to comprehend the gravity of the situation, stopping my head from jumping to the conclusion without listening to him fully.

"You mean to say that her hemoglobin is low? Right?" There was silence on the other side of the line. "It's okay, it was quite expectable, looking at the paleness of their palms and her cheeks."

Silence lingered on the other end of the line, stretching the seconds into an eternity. It was an answer in itself, a confirmation that this was no ordinary anemia. After a minute, which felt like an eternity, he broke the silence.
