Roseline's POV
"And the winner is..."
My eyes snapped open as he held on to a moment of silence. His lips parted with his gaze fixated on me as he announced the winner, as if he were waiting for me to open my eyes.
"None!"
"Huh?"
"What?"
"How is this possible?"
I could hear the murmurings of the audience, which was as surprised as me. My body froze in its place, drained of energy. I can't even move my finger; my eyes are locked on him.
Now, I am 100 percent sure that the winner was our venture and he has done this on purpose. He wants me to bend to his will and this seems the only way for him.
"Though the competition was fierce, none of the ventures were deemed worthy of the investment," he announced, disappointment lingering in the air. "But do not be disheartened. If you aspire to achieve something great in your life, you must learn to embrace failure as well. I encourage you to participate again and come up with even better ideas. Best of luck."
With his final words, he walked off the stage, disappearing from our sight.
The audience had quickly dispersed from the hall, leaving me sitting in my seat, feeling frozen and lifeless.
"I told you we wouldn't win." Emma's voice interrupted my reverie.
"We are the actual winners. He did this intentionally." I responded without looking at her. "I need to talk to him. I won't let go of what I deserve."
"The lives of the kids are in danger and you are still clinging to that hope. If you hadn't confronted him yesterday, he hadn't done this," she retorted with anger.
By this time, the hall was empty and her voice was echoing.
"I don't regret it. Now I just want answers from him about why he did injustice when we were winning." I felt a lump in my throat, which I gulped down.
This is not the time to feel weak.
"Cut the crap, Rose. It's enough" she stood up and shouted at me in frustration, "Just accept your defeat."
I shook my head.
"Then do whatever you want to do. I am going!" she shouted, not waiting a moment longer, and stormed out.
My eyes scanned the surroundings and landed on a crushed piece of paper lying on the stage. I was certain it was the same paper that had the name of the winner. I couldn't resist walking up to the stage and picking it up.
'Little Stars by Roseline'
This is enough!
How could he do this to me?
I felt a mix of anger and resentment rushing through my veins.
"Ma'am, please vacate the hall. I need to lock it," a staff member approached me.
I hurriedly left the hall, hiding the paper tightly clenched in my fist.
I searched for him, convinced that he hadn't left the building yet. I had to find him before he slipped away. I needed answers to all my questions.
"Where is Mr. Vincenzo De Luca?" I asked one of the men whom I could recognize, as he came yesterday to the orphanage along with him.
I was in haste; my body kept moving, anger coursing through my veins.
"Excuse me!"
"You heard what I said! Where is he?"
"Do you have any appointments?" I asked.
"I don't care about the appointment; I just want to meet him right now," I argued
"No, you can't. He is busy."
My eyes narrowed at him as my teeth gritted tightly. I am sure he is in the room and that they are guarding.
Fortunately, a heated argument broke out, diverting their attention. Seizing the opportunity, I dashed towards the room. But before I could open the door, two men grabbed me by the arms and lifted me off the ground. I thrashed in their hold, my feet desperately trying to find the floor, using every ounce of strength to propel myself forward. But, no matter how hard I fought, their strength overwhelmed me.
"Let her go!"
A deep, authoritative, and manly voice suddenly silenced everyone, and they released their hold on me as commanded. I could still feel the pain where they had grabbed me, but I ignored it and directed my glare at the traitor before me, hoping my anger would pierce through him. He seemed unaffected, his hands casually tucked into his pants pockets, standing there with his usual calm demeanor.
He calls himself an influence on the country but he is nothing more than a cheater and a liar.
He tilted his head slightly, which I took as a signal to open the door and enter the room. It appeared to be a study, with a desk and a chair positioned in the center. Without needing to turn around, I sensed his presence entering the room, causing the temperature to drop by three degrees.
Why is he so cold and inconsiderate?
What's there that life hasn't given him?
What injustice has God done to him that he is doing to innocent souls?
As he passed by me, I caught a whiff of his expensive cologne, his aura reeking of arrogance. I would have loved this smell only if we had met differently. He settled into the chair, exuding a sense of royalty.
"Why did you lie on the stage when it was me who was winning the investment?" I seethed, my anger barely contained.
"It was you who didn't want to talk to me in private. Isn't it? Then why shall I answer all your questions?" He shot back.
"That's so wrong! The investment is rightfully mine."
I stomped my right foot as my palms curled into tight fists. Frustration consumed me, knowing that it was the last hope to provide a roof and food to kids.
"The money is mine, Ms. Roseline and I am the one who decides where I want to invest it. I don't see anything wrong with it." He wasn't even looking at me, as if I didn't matter. His focus was on finding something.
I drew a sharp breath.
He is evil!
He did all this to make me submit. I took a step back to maintain a distance between us.
"Why did you want me at your place?" I asked him directly.
"Marry me," he said within a second.
His words paralyzed me to my place and for a second, I thought my ears were ringing. I couldn't believe what he had just said.
"Are you serious?" I asked him.
"Very much," he replied
"I won't marry you," I told him
"I have money, power, fame, and looks. Why are you throwing tantrums about marrying me? What more could you possibly want?"
"Heart! That you don't have," I shot back.
"Neither you are going to get it ever."
His words left me even more confused than before. And finally, he found the thing he was searching for, and that was a file.
"I can't bear you for my whole life; that's why I have made a 365-day contract. During this time, my purpose of marrying you would be fulfilled. Just go through it because I don't want you to blame me for anything after the marriage."
My eyes flicked down to the file but I couldn't move towards it. I was fuming in anger. How could he dictate my life according to his whim?
"It's ok if you don't want to read it because any way you are going to sign it. I just want to make a few things clear."
He leaned forward, tented his fingers under his chin, and fixed his gaze on me with penetrating intensity.
"First and most important thing, you are not allowed to fall in love with me, and even if you did that, it would be your mistake. I won't be responsible for your heartbreak because I can never love you. Imbibe this rule in bold letters.
Pausing briefly, he allowed his words to sink in, giving me a moment to process their weight.
"My grandfather stays with me so you are required to behave normally in front of him. I don't want him to know the truth about this wedding. I will tell him that we are divorcing after the contract is over."
He drew a deep breath.
"And by the time you are with me, you will be longinging only for me. You are not allowed to get close to any other male,, even if it is your friend, Liam,," he asserted, his eyes piercing through mine.
I gulped as my eyes were still fixed on him. He is telling me the rules as if I am going to sign the contract.
"I am giving you two days to go through the sample contract and make your decision," he stated, leaning back in his chair. "I will come a day after tomorrow with the bulldozer and the original contract to claim either the property or you."
He cocked his head, giving me no time to respond.
"The choice is yours!"

Roseline's POVIt was sunset time, and sunlight was casting warm hues across the area.Colorful toys were scattered around the garden as children of various ages were engrossed in their games. Their laughter fills the air, creating an atmosphere of innocent happiness. My eyes moved toward the two kids who were engaged in an imaginative adventure with a toy pirate ship. They laugh as they mimic the sound of crashing waves and engage in a pretend sword fight, their young minds filled with wonder and imagination.Nothing is new here; after taking an afternoon nap and completing their homework, kids play together. It must be another usual day for them, but they don't know that havoc is waiting for them.Today is the day when the devil promised to ruin everything. As it is Sunday, Liam is also here. I have been spending time with kids to distract my mind and forget what he said, but it seems impossible to me."Rose, the stress is visible on your face. Don't worry so much. You will fall ill.
Roseline's POVAnd just like that, I was married!I never thought, even in my wildest dreams, that I would get married in this way. Though I didn't want a big, fat wedding party, the least I was expecting was to marry a man of my choice at a small gathering at our orphanage in the presence of all the lovely kids with the blessing of my sister Mary. But I am not surprised because life has never given me what I wanted.I have always tried to stay optimistic but now all I can see is darkness because of the man sitting beside me, who is now my husband in the eyes of the law but I won't ever be able to accept anything from him with my heart. The screeching of the car abruptly jolted me from my thoughts as it came to a halt. I turned my gaze towards him, awaiting his words, though my heart braced itself for disappointment."Listen to me." His words caught my attention.I just tilted my head in his direction instead of answering anything."As much as my grandfather was excited to meet you, h
As I don't want to create any issues, I did what he wanted for now. He gestured something to one of the female house helpers. Reluctantly, I followed him into the room, and my curiosity piqued. We passed through many rooms before he finally stopped in front of one. He typed the passcode and the door to the room opened. I guess the room is his. As the door swung open, my eyes widened, taking in the breathtaking sight before me.The room exuded an aura of romance and passion. The bed, adorned with delicate red flowers, was a centerpiece of beauty, complemented by drapes cascading gracefully and heart-shaped red pillows placed meticulously. The air was filled with the scent of scented candles, adding to the ambiance. Now my nervousness has taken its toll. Is he going to do all this? Did he ask his servants to do this?My nerves tingled with anticipation, unsure of what lay ahead. I tried to steady my racing heart, reminding myself that this was merely a charade, a façade we had to mainta
Roseline's POVAs he leaned in closer, my instincts kicked in, and I instinctively took a step back to create some distance between us. But to my dismay, this didn't stop him; he also moved forward, closing the distance between us.In my attempt to retreat, I stumbled and collided with an object behind me, which I hadn't noticed before. My surroundings had been a blur, and I hadn't taken the time to properly observe his room.My hands were still on my back and I was still breathing heavily. I curved myself as much as I could and he kept on leaning over me.Now, he was so close that his hot breath caressed my face, his intense gaze fixated on my numb lips, and the contrast of his cold body sent shivers down my spine.Confusion overwhelmed me. This was the first time I had ever been in such proximity to a man, and I couldn't comprehend the sensations coursing through me.He enveloped me in his arms, and I involuntarily held my breath, afraid that any intake of air would bring our bodies
Roseline's POVThankfully, the dress I found happened to be a knee-length midi dress, which was a relief. When I came out, he was nowhere to be found. Has he gone somewhere? Why do I care about his whereabouts? Perhaps there was a lingering sense of curiosity or concern, despite my earlier frustrations.Shrugging off those thoughts, I decided to sit down on the bed. To my surprise, the mattress felt incredibly soft and comfortable. The temptation to lie down and indulge in a deep sleep washed over me, but I hesitated. After all, it wasn't my home, and I didn't want to embarrass myself further in front of the person I referred to as a devil. My eyes were moving around when they abruptly stopped at a chocolate box. I found myself drawn to it. Unable to resist, I walked towards it.The anticipation built up as I opened the box, revealing a treasure trove of caramel cubes, each delicately wrapped in golden paper. The sight made my mouth water, and my craving for caramel took hold. It was
Roseline's POV"I want caramel."I moved my hand up to give him the caramel I was holding."From your lips."His eyes darkened as he stared deeply at the corners of my lips, which were smeared by my fingers. No!"That you stole from me," he added.I can see the desire flickering in his eyes, an ominous hunger that both terrifies and intrigues me.Then, without any warning, his hand moved up and his fingers reached out to me, his fingertips brushing against my lips. A jolt of electricity courses through my veins, sending shivers cascading down my spine. My breath catches in my throat as my skin prickles with anticipation. My eyes widened, and my senses heightened as I felt his touch. It's as if a current of energy passes between us, an invisible connection that defies explanation. I struggled to maintain my composure, my heart pounding in her chest. It was the first time he had touched me and I was already melting under him.I can't let him control my body. His touch lingers, his thumb
Roseline's POVI was standing in front of my small wooden house, engulfed in merciless flames.Smoke billows from shattered windows, obscuring my view and making it difficult for me to scream. Fear clenches my heart as I call out for my parents, and in reverting, I could hear nothing else but their agonizing screams.I know they are burning inside and I wanted to help them, to rescue them but I was held back by two strong arms who are behind this fire.I wiggled, screamed, thrashed, and did everything in my power to make myself free from his clutches, but nothing worked.I could see my parents hugging each other, barely visible amidst the engulfing blaze."Let me go!" I screamed at the top of my lungs.I just wanted to run to my parents to save them or to get myself burned along with them, as I don't have anyone else in this world than them. And I can't stay without them; they are my life, my everything."No! Rose, no! Don't come here," I heard my mother shouting in between her painfu
Vincenzo's POVAs I woke up, the only thing I could remember was her face, and as my eyes opened, it was the first thing I saw. When I caught her stealing my caramel, she looked like a small, adorable kid whose candy had been snatched away. At that very moment, I badly wanted to have the caramel on her lips but I had to control my urges.Last night, when she climbed into bed with me, I couldn't resist the urge to gaze at her captivating features. Undeniably, she was beautiful, reminiscent of a small kitten, adorable when calm but capable of becoming fierce when provoked. Her fierceness reminded me of the way she is going to react if she finds us in the position we are currently in.In the middle of the night, when she was in bed with me, she started mumbling, attempting to free herself again, but her words came out as muffled screams. They were not as loud as when she was screaming on the floor.Though I don't care yet, I found myself reaching out to comfort her, gently stroking her h
Roseline's POVI was packing a lunch box to have it together in the garden as planned by Enzo when Roderick came running to me. "Mommmyyyyyyy!"I turned to find my sweet three-year-old son standing there, his eyes filled with innocence and his lips forming a cute pout."Yes, baby?" I responded, bending down to his level. Our children had grown so fast, and it seemed like just yesterday when I was carrying them in my belly, experiencing their little kicks and wiggles. Soon, they will start going to school as well. "Chocolate," he requested, his tiny hand reaching out and his big, hopeful eyes locked onto mine. He was blinking up at me innocently with a pout on his lips. I couldn't help but chuckle at his irresistible charm. "But you already had some today, my love," I said gently, aware of the perils of too much chocolate for a young child. "You know that having too much can give you cavities in your teeth."He pouted a little more, his eyes welling up with tiny tears."Mommy, plea
One year laterRoseline's POVAs I sat in the VIP seat, watching my husband Vincenzo on the stage, I couldn't help but feel an overwhelming sense of pride and happiness. Today was a momentous occasion—an interview that marked the culmination of Vincenzo's relentless pursuit of success. He had not only climbed the corporate ladder but had also become the richest man in the country as a result of his dedication and unyielding work ethic. His company had experienced unprecedented growth under his leadership, and it was all a result of his own hard work and visionary approach to business. When I asked him what would I do here, he said that it was because of my luck that he had been able to achieve all this but it was nothing but a lie. It is his own hard work. On the stage, Vincenzo was poised and confident, fielding questions from the interviewer with ease. His words were measured and insightful, a reflection of the wisdom he had gained through years of experience. The audience was capt
Roseline's POV"Ma'am, you are done," the attendants announced, taking a step back to admire their work.As soon as I stood up, I couldn't resist the curiosity to see myself. My heart raced with anticipation as I approached the mirror. When I finally gazed upon my reflection, my jaw dropped, and my eyes widened in sheer disbelief.I couldn't believe what I was seeing. It was me, but at the same time, it felt like an entirely different person staring back at me. The transformation was astonishing. Before this moment, I had rarely worn makeup, and the sight of myself in such an exquisite wedding dress, adorned with intricate makeup and hair styling, left me feeling completely transformed. It was as if I had stepped into a dream, and I marveled at the beautiful bride that I had become. For the first time in my life, I saw myself as truly beautiful. "My Princess," My father's voice gently called out, drawing my attention as he stepped into the room."Dad," I responded with a smile, my h
Roseline's POVI was completing my assignment when suddenly I felt a kick. My fingers trembled as I tried to maintain my focus on the assignment, the cursor on my computer screen blinking in time with my racing heart. At first, I thought that it was normal as the due date was only two days ahead but then that sudden kick, strong and insistent, tore my attention away from the words on the screen. I gasped, my hands instinctively clutching my swollen belly. It had been a day filled with intermittent twinges, but this was different and sharper, and it frightened me."Ahhhhhh!" a loud, painful scream left my throat. The kicks became a relentless rhythm, punctuated by contractions that wrapped around me like vipers of pain. I cried out, a scream echoing through the room, the intensity of it threatening to consume me."Enzo!" Desperation took over as I called out for Vincenzo. My voice quivered with fear and pain as I said his name, the urgency in my tone carrying through the walls of the
Roseline's POVWith only one month left until our babies would enter this world, Vincenzo and I were bursting with anticipation. Every day brought us closer to the moment we had been eagerly awaiting.Since the traumatic incident, I have become quite the homebody, rarely venturing outside except for my regular checkups. I clung to Vincenzo's side, feeling safest in his presence, and he never left my side for a moment. Most of my days were spent in a gentle cycle of sleep and study. The fatigue that accompanied this stage of pregnancy often left me too tired to focus on our startup project, much less anything else. I marveled at how some pregnant women managed to stay perpetually excited and energetic, while I struggled to find the motivation to even comb my hair.My eyes remained closed, and I was still lying in my comfortable cocoon when I felt a gentle hand on my head. An immediate sense of warmth and comfort washed over me, and a wide, contented smile spread across my lips.Vincenz
Roseline's POVBeepBeepBeepBefore I could even flutter my eyes open, a rhythmic beeping sound reached my ears, a reassuring signal that I was in a hospital. Memories of the terrifying events leading up to my loss of consciousness played like a haunting reel in my mind.My initial instinct was to protect my unborn babies. My hands instinctively reached for my stomach, and a wave of relief washed over me as I felt the reassuring presence of my baby bump."Rose." Vincenzo's voice broke through the haze as he rushed to my side, settling into a chair beside my hospital bed. His gentle hand began to caress my head, offering a soothing touch."Vincenzo, my babies?" I managed to voice my primary concern."They are fine," he breathed out, nodding reassuringly. His words eased the immense worry that had gripped me."How are you feeling?" he inquired, genuine concern etched on his face."I am fine," I assured him.My trembling hands reached out, and I gently enclosed his palm within mine, squ
Vincenzo's POVI was with Roseline, selecting a dress, when I got an important call. As much as I didn't want to leave her alone, I had to attend the call as well. Asking her to stay at her place, I went to attend the call but to my surprise, the loss of network didn't let me hear anything. I had to walk ahead and suddenly I was pushed inside a room. I wasn't expecting it so I fell inside and before I could react, I was locked inside. "Open the door." I banged but no one came. Locked inside the dimly lit room, anxiety gripped my chest as I desperately tried to break free. The sound of my fist pounding against the solid door echoed through the space, but there was no response from the other side. I couldn't even see the face of the man who pushed me inside. But I am sure about one thing: everything is planned. I couldn't shake the feeling that something sinister was afoot, and my mind raced with thoughts of Roseline alone and vulnerable. "My men took about twenty minutes to reac
Fear and confusion swirled within me as Kevin drove the car, leaving me paralyzed with disbelief. The Kevin I had known, the one who had shared laughter and joy with me, now seemed like a completely different person—a dark and dangerous one.I struggled a bit more but I sat back when I knew that there was no way out of this. I was already bone tired and I thought twice about keeping my energy reserved to fight with him once I was out of this car. I still couldn't believe that he was the same Kevin with whom I had shared so many laughs and giggles. I never knew that a devil was lurking behind that helping face. Vincenzo was already aware of his reality and this was the reason he was always asking me to keep my distance from him but I was so foolish that I never listened to him. I kept on looking out, trying to memorize the way so that I could run back when I got a chance to escape him. After what felt like an hour, he finally applied the brake. He came out and when he opened my si
Roseline's POV"You really don't have a good collection," Vincenzo remarked, his voice tinged with frustration.I was getting tired, to be honest. We had been at the bridal boutique for three hours, and while I was falling in love with every wedding gown they had, Vincenzo seemed unimpressed with any of them.He kept suggesting that I try on various dresses, but my energy was waning, and I didn't want to spoil the excitement of him seeing me in my wedding gown for the first time on our actual wedding day. So, I politely declined."Don't we have other designs?" he inquired, turning to the boutique attendant."Sir, if you're not satisfied with our current selection, you can choose from a virtual catalog, and we'll tailor it to your preferences," she suggested."That's a great idea!" Vincenzo's eyes lit up with excitement. "Why didn't you mention that earlier? I want something that can match the beauty of my wife."The boutique attendant glanced at me, and I couldn't help but feel like a
