William tightened his lips as he sat straight before the old man. His neighbor had just asked him a question but he couldn't talk.It wasn't as though he couldn't talk, he was just unable to explain the circumstance to him. How could he?!It was a shameful thing. One would call a man weak because he got hurt physically for a girl's sake."Boy! Listen to me! I haven't got much time on earth and I see you're wasting more of my time by keeping quiet while I wait." He said as he stood up and walked over to William's side. The younger William git scared immediately. The old man bent down as he brought his face to William and smiled. "You can talk to me. I totally understand everything. I've been there, myself. Come on, go on. Talk" the old man said to him again.William remembered that he had originally planned not to tell the old man who was his neighbor anything but he kept on persuading him and slowly, William opened up. He smiled as he thanked his younger self for actually opening up
It wasn't anything important. It was a cat. A stray cat must have gotten into their house through the window when none of them were home. Maybe Tiffany had left the windows open when she packed her belongings and he had forgotten to check on it before he fainted and was taken away to the hospital."Shhhhhuuuuuu!!" The young William said as he flung his wrist. He tried to chase it away but surprisingly, it sat there looking at it with its big yellow eyes. It even twisted it's neck in a very scary way, not for once blinking or moving its eyes. It stared at him for some seconds and then purred at him. William watched as the cat stood up and gracefully made its way to him. Still staring at it, the cat made its way up his body and onto his neck. When it got there, it licked his neck and ear which was very ticklish and made William laugh. He reached out as he lifted the cat and dropped it on his lap. It must have been the cat who had liter his house and made it dirty, he said to himself.
William got closer for a better look as he felt he had not seen clearly what was happening."Tiffany! Is that you?" He asked as he got in front of the car. He pulled himself towards the passenger's seat, where she sat tongue deep inside someone unfamiliar. He gasped as he saw who she was seated with. It was a man. A full blown man and he looked really dangerous as he had some tattoos and markings. He had a red hair and a gold teeth as he also looked like he could kill in an instant with his stare. When William called Tiffany's name the second time, she immediately stopped as she turned to fully face him. Realizing who had just called her name, she jolted immediately as she held the man she was kissing tightly. The mature scary looking man tried to shield her as he pushed open his car seat and came out. "... And who are you supposed to be? What gives you the right to scare my girlfriend?" He asked as he took off his glasses. He looked furious at William for intruding on his good time.
The younger William cried out loud for help but no one came through. All the people passing tossed their faces the other way as they walked by. The owner of the ice cream shop who had stood there to witness the whole thing, who had been very familiar with William and Tiffany, ran inside when he saw William had been hurt.William in his painful state, watched Mr Marcel run inside and as he got inside, he quickly turned his 'open' sign to 'close'. William scuffed in pain. He couldn't believe his eyes. The same man who had said he was like a son to him and had blessed him the other day, the same man had left his son to bleed to death, out there alone. He looked to his right and saw Tiffany and the men who had beaten him up leaving. They were in a red car with a plate number he had suddenly cramped up in his head. William tried to reach out to some other people who were passing by but no one said anything and so, he decided he needed to get to a hospital on his own. With that in mind, Wil
What words the old man spoke before William made him feel weak. He felt instantly drained as he heard them. His eyes closed shut as he tried to balance what he had heard and what he was feeling. It took his some few seconds for him to remember how to breath because of how his nostrils had clogged when he heard the news. William started to feel a sudden tighteness around his chest as though he was was being choked. He slapped his chest multiple times as he thought that would free him."Oh goodness!" He exclaimed. "What did you say the doctor said to you about me?" He asked again. The old man walked closer to him as he tried to put a hand over William's shoulder and then, he began to pat him gently."I know it's hard boy! I really know but you see, you have to take it easy. I am so sorry. Who did this to you? I could personally get revenge for you! I could do that, just tell me who did this to you!" The old man said with a reassuring smile.William raised his right hand over his head as
William lifted his head up as he paused to listen to the doctor who said he had a solution. He wiped his eyes as he gaze at the doctor with a ray of hope in his eyes. The doctor stepped back as he moved to give space to William. He held his chin, scratched his head and then smiled."It's a new product in the market and it is very expensive. It is still being developed and to be honest, we do not know if it is guaranteed to work efficiently and bring you back to the man you were before but we could give this a try if you do not mind" the doctor said as he shrugged. The nurses and others started to whisper behind his back.William turned to the old man by his side and gave him an eye that looked sad. The old man could understand what he meant. He swallowed hard and then spoke, "Doctor, how much are we talking about here?!" He commanded."About a million or two. It actually depends on them" the doctor said almost immediately. The old man seemed relieved when he heard the price. Maybe tha
William pondered over that question as he entered his house. Truthfully, he didn't know what to do nor did he want to understand what followed next, all he wanted to do was go find where Tiffany was and share his pain with her. On their way home, the old man kept saying Tiffany was to blame but he didn't care and he couldn't see it. She wasn't the one who had beaten him with a bat, nor was she the one who had asked him to go find him. If anything, it was entirely his fault–he was the one who had interrupted what she had going on because he wanted to see her. He shouldn't have. He brought this upon himself.William got into his room as he sat on the bed, looked down at his pants and started to cry.He felt helpless. He had lost it all. He hadn't gone to school. He wasn't a graduate. He had no skill nor money to start anything good in life. His only hope, who was his lover, had grown tired of him being too poor to afford her needs and wants and had left and now, to add to his pains, he
William remembered as he stood there while he said nothing. He slowly retreated as he backed away and lifted his hands up in surrender."It seems the beating you got last time wasn't enough for you. You want more?!" The voice behind him said as used his gun to push William's head.William remembered feeling suddenly weak in the knees at that moment. He had already been marked before for interrupting these men and now, here he was, trying to fight off one, for the same woman who didn't care about him."I came to have a word with Tiffany." He said as he swallowed hard and tried to slowly turn. The least he needed at that moment was to see the face of whoever was pointing a gun at him– who knew? Maybe he could take him out.William had almost finished his slow spin when the owner of the gun asked him to reverse. "I don't know what you intend to see but I suggest you go back to where you were before. We wouldn't want you to go to the hospital now, would we?" He said with a smile. William
