Chapter 149

William could have missed the comment if he didn't stand still to listen. The 'yes' resounded loudly in his ear, maybe because he was waiting for it.

His ears perked up at the sound of it as if he was a dog.

"Who said that?" He responded. "What did you see and who?" William moved to where he thought the answer came from.

He stood in front of his newest maid. Peering his eyes at her.

"Was it you?"

Everywhere was silent as people watched both of them. The other maids shifted backwards, creating more space for her so that she could talk freely. William bent to her eye level, giving her a non-chalant smile, "Looks like you'll be getting a reward this month. Talk to me, who did you see?"

The maid lowered her head in fear. William must have sensed it. He took his hand to her shoulder, hoping it would reassure her.

"You are in my house. There is no need to be scared. No one will hurt you here"

She still kept mute.

William waited for some few seconds before asking her to speak again.

"I don't
