Lyla's POV

I stepped out of the bathroom and made my way to the closet to change. As I was rummaging through my clothes, I saw Jace, already dressed and preparing for work.

"Oh, you're finally out," he teased, raising an eyebrow. "I was starting to wonder if you were ever going to come out. You took longer than usual in the shower today."

"Well," I said, shrugging as I pulled on a blouse, "I was enjoying the peace and quiet. Didn't want to leave the shower, honestly."

"Did you hear the news?" Jace's tone was more serious now, and I could tell something was on his mind.

"What news?" I asked, feeling a slight itch in my ear. I hoped it wasn’t anything bad.

"Chad’s company just lost over $10 million," he said, his voice low.

Apparently,Chad added Becky to his board of directors, and she advised him to invest in a deal that completely fell apart. Now, his company's net worth is plummeting. If they don’t turn things around soon, they're going to end up in a lot of debt.

Lyla’s POVAs I washed my hands, my eyes fell upon an unexpected sight—Chad, standing there with that infuriating smirk plastered across his face. I froze, confusion and anger swirling in my chest. How could he be here? What was he doing at the same hospital where I had just registered? The mere sight of him stirred up emotions I thought I’d long buried.“What are you doing here?” My voice was firm, yet laced with the venom I had for him.Chad’s eyes flickered up to meet mine, and the smirk grew wider. “You look… beautiful,” he said, his gaze slowly scanning my body. “More beautiful than the last time I saw you. I can see he’s taking good care of you.”I felt a shiver of disgust run down my spine as he appraised me like a piece of meat. I hated that he still had this effect on me. But I wouldn’t let him see that.“You’ve put on a little weight. Is that something I should know about?” He raised an eyebrow, a hint of mockery in his voice.I clenched my jaw, trying to suppress the rage b

Every time I thought of Lyla, my blood boiled. She had been nothing but bad luck for me. My life was better off without her—at least, that’s what I kept telling myself. We were married for over five years before we separated, and the weight of those years without children had gnawed at me. Then, out of nowhere, Becky—my side chick—had gotten pregnant. The joy that surged through me when I found out I was going to be a father was overwhelming. It felt like I’d finally found a glimmer of happiness after everything that had gone wrong in my life. I was going to do whatever it took to protect this newfound joy, and I was certain it would be the start of something better. But, as much as I tried to bury my past with Lyla, fate has a way of bringing two lost souls together in the most unexpected ways.

Lyla’s POVIt was a quiet morning. Jace had a long night meeting and was still fast asleep, but I was already up before breakfast. My usual morning routine was to start the day with a cup of dark coffee, but the doctor had advised me to cut it down for health reasons. So, today, I decided to switch things up and enjoy a soothing cup of hibiscus tea instead. As I approached the kitchen, the soft hum of the TV caught my attention. The newscaster’s voice filtered through the air, announcing the weather report. Descending the staircase, I was greeted by the comforting aroma of the hibiscus tea filling the room. It was just the kind of warm, calming scent I needed to start my day.Mrs. Maddy, the live-in maid, called through the intercom.“Ma’am, should I make your coffee, or would you prefer something else this morning?” she asked.I smiled at the familiar, caring tone in her voice.“No coffee today, Mrs. Maddy. Could you please prepare the hibiscus tea instead?” I replied, glad that my n

Lyla’s POV.The phone call came in like a lightning strike, jagged and fast.“Your sister just woke up from the coma. She’s been calling for you ever since. Please, how fast can you get to the hospital? She needs to see you to stay calm.”I collapsed to the floor, unable to keep myself together. My hand trembled, and the phone slipped from my grasp. Jace, who had been nearby, rushed to my side, thinking something tragic had happened. I could barely form words through the overwhelming flood of emotions.“She’s awake! She’s awake!” was all I managed to yell, my voice cracking from the weight of the relief flooding my system. My anxiety had spiked the moment I saw the call from the hospital, and I had been paralyzed by fear until this moment.Jace immediately pulled me into his arms, wrapping me tightly in an embrace. “It’s alright. It’s alright. She’s alive. Bailey is okay,” he repeated, trying to calm me down as my body shook with a mixture of shock and relief.I tried to steady myself

Lyla’s POVI was burning with rage when Becky walked in. I was shocked, yes, but more than that, I was angry. What was she doing here? My mind raced with thoughts as I bristled with fury.“You better leave now before I do something you definitely won’t like,” I said, my voice cold and threatening.Becky didn’t respond right away. She looked around the room, as if she were searching for something, then took off her sunglasses and stepped closer to me.“Nice to see you too, Lyla,” she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. “I can see Jace is treating you well, but it’s only a matter of time before he throws you out when he finds out that your womb can’t carry a child.”Her smile was smug, one side of her cheek lifting with that irritating, superior expression. I tried to move toward her, ready to unleash all my pent-up anger, but Bailey pulled me back.“For the last time, what are you doing here?” Bailey asked, her voice steady.“Easy, Tiger,” Becky replied, her tone mockingly calm. “I’

Lyla's POV."Sis, you can’t keep hiding here and crying your eyes out every single day. You know you're pregnant, and it's not good for the baby." Bailey's voice was gentle as she placed a hand on my shoulder, trying to comfort me, but I couldn't stop crying. My heart was broken, and my emotions were too raw.I tried to speak, but all that came out was a sob. "Bailey... tell me... am I cursed? Why do these terrible things keep happening to me? Why do bad things happen to good people?"I couldn't hold back the tears any longer, even though my body felt weak and drained from the endless crying. I hadn't eaten all day."You are not cursed, Lyla. You're the sweetest soul on earth, and I’m so proud to have you as my sister. If you weren’t my sister, I’d probably be jealous," Bailey said, her voice full of sincerity."But why does disaster always seem to follow me?" I cried, wiping my eyes. "Everyone I love seems to hate me—Chad, Becky, Jace’s family... They all hate me."Even through my te

Lyla’s POV.When Jace walked in, Bailey quickly left the room, giving us space to talk. Though I was happy to see him, I wasn’t ready to go back with him—not after what had happened. His mother and aunt had thrown my things outside, and it could have been worse if someone had recorded it and posted it online.“I know what they did was terrible,” Jace began, his voice soft but firm. “But it’s you and me against the world. I promised I’d take care of you and protect you. Did I?”I didn’t want to admit it, but I couldn’t deny how much I wanted to believe him. Still, the anger and pain lingered.“I can’t stand the fact that your mother thinks I’m the bad influence,” I said, my voice cracking. “They’ll never accept me. Can’t you see that? No matter how hard I try to stay calm and prove I’m a good person, it doesn’t matter. All they care about is you marrying Sasha and building your political career.”“I don’t want any of that,” Jace replied quickly. “If I wanted to be a politician, I would

Lyla's POVThe news hit me like a ton of bricks. I wasn’t prepared for this. I had walked into the hospital that day, thinking I was just going for a regular check-up, expecting the usual. But what the radiographer said next sent my heart racing—faster than I thought was possible. I wasn’t just expecting one baby; I was expecting two. Twins. It wasn’t just a surprise; it was a shock, a complete jolt to my system.I wasn’t sure if I was even ready for this. I had never been a mother before. How could I take care of two? I felt overwhelmed with the enormity of what I was about to face. Could I do it? Could I be a good mother? These questions ran through my mind in a steady stream, growing more and more frantic by the second."Sorry, can you check again? Are you sure? There has to be some mistake," I said, my voice barely concealing the panic rising inside me. The radiographer, a woman who looked seasoned and unbothered by my distress, glanced up, sensing the tension in my voice. Bailey,

Silver hair, sharp eyes. Something about him screamed military or something worse. The man held out a letter. “Dr. Jace Karev?”“Yes,” Jace said carefully.“I was told you’re the only one who can help.”Jace opened the letter. It was hand-written. “This man should be dead. Bailey's POV The emergency lights flickered in the archive room, throwing Bailey and Callum into crimson shadows. The girl—A-11—stood eerily calm between the cabinets.Bailey’s breath hitched. She couldn’t look away.Same height. Same build. Same eyes. But there was something off about her… like a reflection bent by time and darkness.“You’re lying,” Bailey whispered. “I don’t have a sister.”“No,” the girl replied coolly, “you have an upgraded prototype.”A-11 stepped forward, lifting a finger and tapping the metal case with a smug smile. “Everything you need to know about me is in there. Right next to the pages that say you were supposed to be terminated before age five.”Bailey recoiled. “Terminated?”Callum moved protectively in front of her.The girl chuckled. “Relax. You’re useful now.”Gunshots echoed again in the distance.“They’re coming,” she added. “You have two minutes before this place gets turned into ash. Make a choice, Bailey. Come with me—or die like the others.”Bail

Bailey's POVIt was the beginning of the year in medical school,Bailey Turner had never been so excited as she would finally be a neurosurgeon, it's something she had wanted right from her childhood. She got to the gate and waited beneath the arch of St. Clair Medical School’s East Wing, the frosty morning air pulling at the tips of her chestnut hair. She gripped the strap of her schoolbag as though it were a soothing relief to the tension already building within her and gazed up at the building's glass exterior. Rain had created lines on the surface resembling ghost fingers. She took a deep breath. This wasn’t just any school. It was the dream Claire had whispered into her ear since childhood. It was the life that had almost been stolen from her again and again—by shadows, betrayal, and secrets that still clung to her skin like smoke. Now? Becky’s POV “No, this is unacceptable. None of this makes sense,” Becky said, her voice raised as she ransacked her old hospital files. “If we are not her parents, then where did she come from?”Chad lifted a dusty box marked “Olivia – Birth.”Inside were photos, documents, the footprint card… and then—“Where’s the birth certificate?” he asked.Becky froze.“I… it was always there.”They tore through every folder, drawer, envelope. Nothing.Chad turned pale. “She must have taken it.”“Lyla?”He nodded. “She knew this day would come.”But Becky noticed something else in the box—a small piece of paper tucked inside a baby photo. It wasn’t handwritten. It was typed, and it was coded. It read:"Room 408. 11:47 p.m. Not the one she expected. Claire switched the vial."Becky’s eyes widened. “Claire again.”She immediately pulled out her phone from her purse and dialed a number. “Who are you calling?” Chad asked inquisively. “An old contact, shs said. Lyla’s POV Lyla rose from her seat. This time, her expression faltered —just slightly.“She was never supposed to be mine,” she began quietly. “When I found out Chad cheated, I was furious. I wanted out, but I couldn’t lose everything at once. I had just discovered he was infertile.”Becky stared at her. “So you stole—”“No,” Lyla interrupted. “I made a deal.”She turned to the judge. “That hospital wasn’t just where Becky was restrained. It was where I paid to have her artificially inseminated.”Gasps exploded in the courtroom.“What?” Chad stood again. “That’s not possible. That’s not—”“She signed consent while sedated,” Lyla said. “Technically, the paperwork was in order. I chose the donor. I ensured the embryo was viable.”Becky clutched the side of the wooden chair to keep herself from falling.“You turned me into a surrogate?”Lyla didn’t blink. “You were already falling apart. I gave you purpose.”The judge stared in horror. “This… This is a criminal offense. This is beyond

Becky’s POV The day of the custody hearing felt like the eye of a storm—quiet, but heavy with pressure. Cameras lined the steps of the courthouse. News vans had arrived hours ahead of dawn, crowding the sidewalk like vultures attracted to a newly found carcass. Becky was in the rear seat of a stationary car a block away, her fingers shaking even with the heat of the coffee she held. "She’s going to turn this over," Becky remarked, not glancing up. “She always twists everything.”Chad sat beside her, staring straight ahead. “She won’t this time. Not with the evidence we have.”Becky laughed bitterly. “You don’t know Lyla like I do.”“I married her,” Chad said.“No,” Becky turned to him, her voice soft but sharp, “you married the version of her she wanted you to see.”There was a pause. Then, Chad opened the door.“Let’s go get our daughter back.”Lyla arrived like a queen returning to her court. Sleek black SUV. Immaculate coat. Flawless makeup. Her legal team surrounded her like

Lyla’s POV Lyla was halfway through a business pitch when Chad suddenly barged into her office, unannounced. She raised an eyebrow but didn’t pause.“I need five minutes,” he said firmly.“Not now.” As you can see I'm in the middle of a very important meeting. You need to excuse me now. He didn't leave, rather he dropped a USB drive onto her desk.“You’ll want to see this.” he persuaded. Her tone changed. She nodded and signaled for her team to step out. There was a brief silence immediately the door shut behind them. Chad walked to the screen on her office wall and connected the drive. And with one click, the hospital video began playing. The screen showed Becky, panicked, tied up and restrained, crying out through sedatives. A nurse was forcing a document into her hand. And in the background—clear as day—stood Lyla.Unblinking. Watching. And doing nothing to stop the nurse. Lyla didn’t flinch, she only shuddered her shoulders. But her jaw and fist tightened.“You were there,” C
