CHAPTER 12

Audrey's Pov

I stood up to leave and he chuckled as I picked up my purse, “I have no intention of enduring this torture, lunch break is over I have work to do” I uttered blankly.

“We are the bosses, that rule doesn't apply to us we can go back anytime” He probed but I had already made up my mind to leave, I would rather leave than hear him speak to me that way.

I left the restaurant and went back to work leaving him to his devices, his driver can always go pick him up whenever he is ready to go.

I finished all my work for the day and decided to go see my father, I didn't bother you to tell Xander I only told him I would be coming home late today, I drove straight to my father's house after leaving the parking lot.

I was told that my father had a visitor when I got there, I wasn't surprised to see my father's attorney with some documents on his hand. “Hello Dad,” I smiled at him and his face brightened, “Audrey my dear, you came at the right time I was just writing my will, your mother and your sister are upstairs if you want to see them,” Eric said and I rolled my eyes.

I would rather throw myself under a bus, “I just came to check up on you, I will be getting you a new caretaker soon. I want you to be healthy and vibrant whenever I come to visit” I pointed out carefully so he wouldn't refuse, to my surprise he nodded at my suggestion.

“Well is everything alright? How are you doing?” I asked taking a seat beside him, he started coughing loudly and I instantly panicked.

This is getting worse, my father isn't diagnosed with a disease or anything deadly but the way his chest heaved while coughing I just know that this isn't flu, “Your father has been having health challenges lately, he called for me to come to transfer all his assets to you, it is already done and you are officially the owner of the company, this house and your father's yacht with other valuable assets, your stepmother can keep her mall and Amelia can keep the penthouse in Arizona” Mark our family lawyer said, I should be happy about this news but all I heard was my father's health challenges.

Since when?

Amelia and her mother are upstairs licking their wounds but this doesn't mean they will give up, I know how much they can be a pain in the house and my so-called mother will start targeting my father, which brings us to the conclusion of how he got sick.

Shit! I shouldn't have left this house whatever this woman is doing, it is working fast and I need to act really fast.

“Audrey dear, why don't you go say hello to your mother and your sister,” My Father said as he recovered himself and I nodded too lost in my thoughts to say anything, what do I do now?

Let's use Xander's strategy, I need someone to keep an eye out for me, so I need someone less suspicious.

“I should go check up on the maids, I have missed them a lot” I smirked as a thought popped up in my head, thankfully Eric didn't persist that I should go visit his wife so I left for the kitchen, three maids were working silently and I only recognize two.

So I picked the innocent-looking one with adorable doe eyes, “Hey girls” I smiled at them as they bowed when they saw me standing at the door, “Good evening Miss Audrey” They said in unison, I walked up to my perfect candidate and put my arm on her shoulder.

“Can I steal your friend for a minute?” I asked and they all nodded looking worried, it's normal for them to think she did something wrong for me to come for her, she was trembling as I led outside through the backdoor.

It is always quiet at the back of our house and that was why I led her there, “Don't be afraid you are not going to lose your job, I just want your help with something” I stated calmly letting go of her shoulder, “What do you mean?” She asked.

“I need you to be my eyes in this house, as you all know I'm married now and I can't be here at all times, I want you to monitor the things your Madame does and the food she gives to my father, in return you can name your price and I will pay you for your service” I proclaimed and she appeared to be stunned for a second there until she quickly recovers.

“If Madame finds out she will punish me and I will lose my job, I don't think I can do this” She pointed out, I know that they fear my stepmother because of how cruel she can be to them.

“I own this house nobody will touch you without my permission, I need you to think about it you are cut out for the job and I chose you for a reason, name your price then it's done, your loyalty will belong to me and me alone,” I remarked.

“Two million” She bit her lip as if I would refuse her price, “Five million, it's settled then” I smirked and we shook hands.

Now I have a spy here it would only be a matter of time before Amelia and her mother fall into my trap, “I will try my best Miss Audrey” She smiled and I nodded.

“I'm looking forward to it” I replied and we headed back inside.
