CHAPTER 10

Audrey's Pov

I left home earlier than I planned to the next day, not because I was running away from him but because I didn't know what to say to him.

I don't need a soothsayer to tell me he meant those words he said to me, I don't even know what is his endgame in all these.

But those words he said kept replaying inside my head all day long, I got a text when it was time for lunch and it was from Xander.

Asking if we could have lunch together I badly wanted to say no but that would look weak so I accepted, “Ma'am you have a visitor” My assistant announced with flushed cheeks, I wouldn't blame her Xander is the kind of good-looking that slaps you on the face.

Do I find him attractive? Yes, but I have no interest in claiming him. I don't even know what that means but it sounded so scary and possessive.

He was standing outside my office with a bouquet of roses and my eyes widened, now I know why my assistant was giving me those looks.

“Uh.. What's the occasion?” I asked as soon as I got to him and he shrugged handing the flowers over to me, I accepted it with uncertainty of what I was supposed to do with them.

I have never been gifted flowers before and I don't understand why women make a big fuss out of it, “I wanted to apologize for what I said last night, it must have scared you and I don't want you to push me aside” He articulated softly as if he meant it.

But maybe he does, “I'm not trying to push you aside, Xander, we are married in case you forgot” I replied heading for my assistant's office, “Can you help me keep these in my

office?” I dropped them on her desk and she nodded a bit too eagerly.

I went back outside and he gestured for me to lead the way and I went to the elevator, fortunately for me we were the only ones in.

“Then why are you avoiding me? Leaving so early in the morning so we don't come across each other. Look I might have gone a bit overboard yesterday but I meant what I said Audrey, I told you at that bar that I want you and I don't have an ulterior motive for that” He remarked.

I sighed ignoring the urge to say something nasty, I didn't want him to want me.

Hell, I wouldn't be here if not for Amelia and her mother, “Do you still love him?” He voiced out suddenly and I sighed again.

“Xander, it's too early for this” I retorted and we got to the last floor so I came out of the elevator, he followed me to my car instead of going with his car.

I didn't say anything as he hopped into the passenger's seat at the front, I brought the engine back to life and hit the road. I took him to a restaurant around the concern but I regretted my decision immediately.

“Do you want us to go somewhere else?” I asked him and he shook his head, so I got out of the car first. People were streaming in and out of the restaurant and if we get caught together we might be in the news this evening.

For some reason Xander didn't care about that because he tried to catch up with me, I wasn't wearing sunglasses like him so that made me easy prey.

I didn't stop until I got to the VIP section, I breathed in a sigh of relief when I saw the scanty people inside.

“Come this way ma’am” One of the staff led me to a table and I settled down, while she brought the menu then Xander walked in and headed towards us.

“I will have a cup of coffee, medium cream with a lot of sugar, and some strawberry muffins” I ordered and waited for him to say something as he took a seat across me.

When he didn't show any signs of ordering anything I decided to ask, “How do you like your coffee?”.

“Black with no sugar” He replied and I internally rolled my eyes, of course he likes his coffee black.

“Alright then that's all” I gave her the menu and she sauntered off to get it, we sat in silence for a while then I was forced to speak.

“Why aren't I surprised you drink Black coffee with no sugar, we have different tastes,” I said starting a conversation about how different we are, “Not so much, you like muffins and I do too the only difference between us is your taste in coffee and your favorite color” He countered and I frowned.

“And do you know that?” I scoffed and he started laying out all my preferences, “Your favorite color is Purple with a touch of white which is also your second choice, you prefer wearing silver over gold. You like sugar but you hate to admit it and you watch horror for the thrill, you might be a helpless romantic but you are a tough businesswoman with a ruthless streak you hide so well, if can do something you either find someone who can help or you go all in” He smirked at my stunned reaction.

“What... You don't know what you are saying” I whispered and tried to convince myself to forget that he just mentioned all the facts about me when I hardly knew the guy.

“And there is that, something I learned recently, you don't like admitting the truth especially when you don't want to hear it, you will try to ignore it and say you don't know” He concluded.

“Let me guess, Amelia told you all those things cause most of them are personal” I glared at the table, my useless sister can't stop ranting about me at any opportunity she gets.

“No, the only thing she told me was lies and I hardly believe any word that comes out of her mouth, let's just say I have my ways” He smirked and the waiter arrived with our order.

“So have you gotten anyone for your father?” He asked changing the topic, “No not yet, but I will just look for the right person my stepmother can be a witch sometimes, if I need to employ someone I need someone who cannot be swayed” I replied wondering if I would find someone loyal, someone that can't be brought.

“I will help you with the contract and don't worry about the money, just find someone first” He took a long sip from his cup of coffee and hummed.

I hid my smile and placed two muffins at his side of the table, he gave me a look and I rolled my eyes, “I don't like sharing my muffins but you can have them” I mumbled begrudgingly and he smiled at me.

A genuine smile, not a playful or teasing smirk, I felt that funny feeling at the pit of my stomach again and I couldn't deny it this time.

“You are such a tease” He chuckled and before I could come up with a snarky remark, a saccharine shrill voice yelped.

“Oh my goodness! Xander” A beautiful girl came out of nowhere, dressed in an elegant cocktail dress and expensive Dior heels.

She looks like a model and has the body of one too, my jaw dropped when she bent down to the chair's height and threw her arms around my husband.

“My God, I have missed you so much” She squealed and Xander was smiling at her as she pulled away and then she did the most shocking thing.

She leaned closer and she kissed him.

What the hell!
