Ria stood outside the door of her father's mansion, her heart thundering in her chest. Her lips were dry, her fingers trembling as she gripped the doorknob. The night before felt like a hazy nightmare—one she desperately wished to wake from. Her heart was pounding as dread settled in her chest. She knew what awaited her inside. She knew Olivia wouldn’t let it go easily.

Drawing a shaky breath, Ria pushed the door open. She barely had time to close the door behind her when a hot, stinging slap landed on her cheek. The force sent her staggering back, her hand instinctively flying up to her burning face..

“How dare you!” Her father's voice thundered, his face flushed with rage. “Is this what you’ve reduced yourself to? Betraying your own sister?”

“Dad, I—”

“Don’t you dare call me that!” he snapped, pointing an accusing finger at her. “I leave this house for one business trip, and this is what I come back to? Shame! Absolute shame!”

Across the room, Olivia sat in her mother’s arms, her face buried in Mrs. Carter’s shoulder as muffled sobs filled the air. But the moment Olivia spotted Ria, she sprang up, her tear-streaked face contorted with heartbreak and righteous indignation.

“Why, Ria?” Olivia cried, her voice trembling as she staggered toward her. “Why would you do this to me? We had an agreement, didn’t we? Adrian was supposed to be mine! You promised me, Ria!”

“I didn’t—” Ria began, her voice shaking.

“You didn’t what?” Olivia cut her off, her voice rising. “You didn’t betray me? You didn’t sneak behind my back and sleep with the man you knew I loved?” She sobbed again, her hands covering her face in exaggerated despair. “How could you, Ria? I trusted you. I thought you cared about my feelings”

“That’s enough, Olivia,” Mrs. Carter said softly, though her cold gaze was fixed on Ria. “Your father and I will handle this.”

“No, Mom,” Olivia insisted, her voice cracking as she turned back to Ria. “She needs to understand what she’s done! Do you know how humiliating this is for me? Adrian was supposed to propose to me, and now…now I don’t even know what to think!”

“Olivia, I didn’t mean—”

“You didn’t mean to?” Olivia interjected, her eyes narrowing. “Was it an accident, then? Did you just happen to end up in his bed? Or did you plan this all along, Ria? Is that it? No wonder you willingly agreed to tag along.”

“That’s not true!” Ria pleaded, her voice breaking as she tried to explain.

“Enough!” Mr. Carter barked, silencing the room. He turned his piercing glare to Ria. “I don’t want to hear another word from you. You’ve already disgraced this family enough.

“But Dad—”

“You have no excuse!” he roared. “Your sister has always been kind to you, always putting you first, and this is how you repay her? You disgust me.”

Mrs. Carter stood, placing a protective arm around Olivia. “We’ve always tried to give you the benefit of the doubt, Ria,” she said coldly. “But this…this is unforgivable. Olivia is heartbroken, and you’ve caused nothing but pain to this family.”

Ria’s legs felt weak, her vision blurring with unshed tears. She opened her mouth to speak, but no words came out.

“Enough!” her father barked, silencing her. “I should have known better. You’ve been a thorn in this family’s side since the day your mother died. She gave her life for you, and this is how you repay her? By dragging this family’s name through the mud?”

Those words hit harder than the slap. Ria’s breath caught in her throat, her chest tightening as she stared at him in disbelief.

“I’ve tried to tolerate you, hoping you’d change,” he continued, his voice heavy with disdain. His face darkened with rage, and for a moment, Ria thought he might strike her again. “If your mother were alive to see the kind of person you’ve become, she would have wished you were the one who died that day instead.”

Ria staggered back as if he had physically struck her again. Her lips quivered, but she bit down on them to keep from crying. The words hit her harder than any slap ever could. Her throat tightened, and she felt tears pricking her eyes, but she refused to let them fall. She wouldn’t give them the satisfaction of seeing her break.

“You don’t mean that,” she whispered.

Her father’s eyes narrowed, but before he could respond, Olivia spoke up, her voice trembling with false innocence.

“Please stop,” she pleaded, wiping her tear-streaked face. “Dad, please let's not talk about her late mother. It was an accident, I'm sure Ria never meant for it to happen. You know how guilty Ria feels about that incident, she was just a child. ”

“Oh, Olivia,” her mother cooed, pulling her into a hug. “You’re still defending her despite what she did to you. She doesn't deserve it.”

“You see that?” Her father asked, pointing at her, his fingers trembling from anger. “That's how a sister and a daughter should behave”

Ria opened her mouth to speak, but her father’s raised hand silenced her again. “Get out of my sight,” he said through gritted teeth. “I can’t stand to look at you right now.”

Her heart shattered at the cold finality in his tone.

Without another word, she turned on her heel and bolted up the stairs.

As soon as she slammed her bedroom door shut, Ria collapsed onto the bed. Hot tears streamed down her face, and no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t stop them. Her father’s words echoed in her mind, cutting deeper with every repetition.

The exhaustion from last night’s events finally overtook her, and she drifted into a restless sleep.

Weeks Later

The nausea had started small, but it grew worse with each passing day accompanied by fatigue. Ria had tried to ignore it, ruling it out as stress, but when she nearly fainted in the shower, she knew she couldn’t put it off any longer.

At the hospital, she sat nervously as Dr. Mira entered the room with a bright smile.

“Ria Carter, congratulations,” the doctor said, her voice warm.

Ria blinked, confused. “Why are you congratulating me?”

“You’re three weeks pregnant,” Dr. Mira announced.

The words hit Ria like a freight train. Her hands instinctively moved to her flat stomach, disbelief written all over her face.

“Pregnant?” she whispered.

“Yes,” the doctor confirmed. “You’re going to be a mother.”

Ria stared at the floor, her emotions swirling. Was this a blessing or a curse? Olivia won't like this. Should she tell Adrian? Would he even care? The thought of facing him again made her stomach churn, but she knew she had to do it. For their child.

As she left the hospital, clutching the test results, she made up her mind. He deserved to know.

At the Blake Mansion

The housekeeper eyed her suspiciously but eventually went to fetch Adrian.

When Adrian appeared at the top of the staircase, Ria’s heart skipped a beat. But the coldness in his gaze as he walked down crushed her hopes.

“What are you doing here?” he demanded, his voice sharp. “Didn’t I warn you to stay away from me?”

Ria swallowed, forcing herself to stay calm. “I need to talk to you.”

“I don’t have time for this.”

“I’m pregnant,” she blurted out, cutting him off.

Adrian froze, his expression unreadable. Slowly, he descended the stairs, his eyes narrowing as he scanned the test results she handed him.

When he looked up, his face was twisted with anger. “And what does this have to do with me?”

Ria’s heart sank. "You’re the father.”

Adrian let out a bitter laugh, throwing the paper at her feet. "Do you think I’m stupid? That bastard in your womb can never be mine.”

The words hit like a slap. "Adrian—"

"Get out," he barked, his voice rising. "If you don’t leave now, I’ll throw you out myself."

"You will do no such thing," a deep, authoritative voice interrupted.

Both Ria and Adrian turned to see an older man descending the staircase.

Ria stared at the man approaching them. His presence was commanding, his expression unreadable. He was tall and broad-shouldered, his salt-and-pepper hair neatly styled. His sharp suit only added to his air of authority. His imposing figure and sharp, icy gaze commanded the room.

"Father," Adrian muttered, his confidence faltering.

Ria wiped her tears as she realized who he was. Adrian’s father approached her, his face stern but unreadable. “I’ve been listening for a while now,” he said. “And I’ve heard enough.”

Adrian opened his mouth to protest, but his father silenced him with a sharp glare. “If what she says is true, then you will take responsibility.”

Ria blinked, stunned. For the first time in a long while, she felt like someone was standing up for her.

But little did she know, this was only the beginning of a new nightmare.

Ria could not believe what she had just heard. Charles Blake, Adrian's father had just declared that his son would marry her?"I will do no such thing!" Adrian protested with raised brows. The silence that engulfed the enormous living room of the Blake mansion at his words was heavy and uncomfortable.Ria watched Charles Blake who had just descended down the stairs with sharp eyes. His face contorted with anger. Her hands began to tremble and her mind was racing with several thoughts and emotions that she did not want to process. He walked closer to Adrian quickly, faster than even the seconds hand of the antique clock that was ticking at one corner of the room."Did you or did you not get in between her thighs?" Charles sighed heavily before running a hand through his salt and pepper hair. His eyes turned away from the stairs to Ria, his expression softening slightly."I apologize for my son's behavior," he said in a voice that was gentle but still commanding. "He has always been a stubborn man. But I assure you that he will soon come around."Ria doubted any of that would happen. Adrian hated her. They were like oil and water that could never mix. But she swallowed hard, finding her voice at last. "Mr. Blake, I appreciate your concern for your grandchild and I," she began. "But I do not want you to force Adrian into a marriage that he does not want."Charles chuckled and waved his hand in the air dismissively. "That is nonsense," he ground out in a stern voice. "Adrian needs to take responsibility for his actions.""But-" _not under duress she wanted to say._"Besides," he added as his eyes shifted to Ria's still-flat stomach with a broad smile. The drive home was smooth and breezy. She sat at the back of the fancy car, staring out of the tinted windows. The sound of the world outside was blurred out, gracing her sight with its beauty. Her mind raced with so many thoughts including how she was going to break the news to her step sister. Olivia had not taken the news of her one night stand with Adrian lightly. She knew that Olivia would have her head for this marriage, and so will the rest of her family. At this point in time, her father could very well disown her. She sighed and moved away from the tinted windows, leaning back in the soft chairs of the luxurious Audi. Her phone dinged slightly with a message notification. She slid it out of her hand bag and stared at the screen. It was a direct message from Olivia asking her where she was. She tried to reply but her hands trembled so much that she finally gave up. She could not bring herself to do it, anything. She would have to keep this marriage proposal from Charles Bl

The sunlight came in through the window, resting on Ria who was sitting on her bed with a book in her hands. She was cooped up in her bedroom, bored as fuck. She tried so hard to focus and read, but the words were blurry before her eyes and her mind was too distracted with other things to focus on the story. The weight of everything that was happening recently was enough to press down on her, making it impossible for her to enjoy the story, or anything else. Her phone suddenly began to ring, breaking the silence. She raised her head from the pages, blinking as she reached for it. Her fingers trembled slightly when she stared at the screen and saw that it was an unknown number.“Hello?” she answered in a quiet and uncertain voice.“Ria!" A voice came from the other end of the line. She instantly knew who it was from the voice.Adrian's father."This is Charles Blake, Adrian's father,” he said in a deep and authoritative voice. Ria sat comfortably in the Porsche. She admired the inside of the luxurious car that was screaming of wealth. The cool air from the vents brushed against her skin. She enjoyed the wonderful view of the city from the car. For a long time, she had not even been able to relax her body and forget about her problems. And for the first time in a long time, she was able to do that. The tension that had built up in her long ago had quickly eased up as she admired her surroundings with an overflow of joy. It feels good to be free. She finally leaned back in the seat and put the mobile phone that she had been holding all along into her animal skin hand bag. She sighed as she stared at the driver who was focused on the road. After a few minutes of driving, the vehicle slowed down. The driver pulled up in front of a grand building in a serene and high end environment. Ria’s eyes widened as she immediately recognized exactly where they were. The afternoon sun was hot. That was the first thing that Olivia noticed the moment she stepped out of the taxi. She stared up at the Coffee shop afore her.Adrian was in there, waiting for her. He has called her to inform her of Ria's pregnancy and his father's decision. She has been livid to the bones. He had asked both of them to meet and talk. And she was here to make sure that Ria never got what she wanted by doing all of this. She heard the taxi driver away as she began to make her way up to the door. She walked into the coffee shop, her eyes scanning the space for Adrian. She spotted him instantly. He was sitting down at the far corner of the shop with a face cap and a nose mask. She recognized him. She saw that his eyes were fixed on her as she approached. When she reached, he stood up and opened his arms, inviting her. Adrian hurriedly arrived at the hospital and walked straight into Betty's ward. When he got inside, he noticed his father, Charles, was already there and chatting with Betty. Betty didn't look pale or in danger as he had thought; rather, she seemed very happy about something.Adrian heaved a deep sigh of relief, and at that moment, Betty raised her head, and on seeing her brother, her face lit up in delight.“Brother!” she called out joyfully, stretching her arms wide.A doting smile appeared on Adrian's face as he walked closer to her.“Brother,” Betty said again, embracing him in a tight hug that showed how much she missed him.Charles sighed, shaking his head lightly. “I told her not to go, but knowing how stubborn your sister is, she didn't listen. Now here she is.”Betty pouted, pulling away from Adrian but keeping his hand in hers. “I only wanted to get a few things for my sister-in-law, Is it a crime?”“See?” Charles said to Adrian, gesturing with his hands.Adrian's jaw clench

Ria got home and stopped at the front door in surprise. There were shopping bags everywhere—big, colorful, and full of luxury items. Some had ribbons, others had tags showing how expensive they are. The prices alone made her heart race. She looked around, but the street was quiet. No one was in sight.“Who brought all these?” she whispered to herself. She picked up one of the bags and peeked inside. A designer dress. Another bag had shoes. Then a box with perfume. There were more bags than she could count. Her first thought was Mr. Blake. He was the only one she could imagine doing something like this. Maybe it was his way of announcing his arrival to her.“But this much?” she murmured, her eyes wide. “Did he buy the whole mall?”She was still standing there, trying to understand it all, when she heard the familiar sound of Adrian’s car pulling into the driveway. Her chest tightened immediately. She turned to see him getting out of the car, walking toward her with long, firm steps. Charles Blake and his daughter, Betty, arrived in town around 3 PM. The sun was still high, and there were a few hours left before dinner. Their flight had been smooth. And though Charles, now seated in his car, looked calm on the outside, he was filled with excitement. It had been one week since he last saw his daughter in-law, and today, he would be seeing her again. He was supposed to stay for two weeks but Betty was too excited to come see her brother's wife, hence their earlier arrival.Betty, sitting beside him, was even more excited. Her brother had always spoken fondly of his childhood sweetheart when they were abroad. “My Cinderella this, My Cinderella that,” she remembered him saying, often with a soft smile. Betty was only a child then, but even at that age, she could tell this Cinderella was someone special to her brother.Adrian was lucky. But Charles also knew his son was stubborn. He hoped he hadn’t already ruined things with Ria while he was away.“I want to stop by t

Adrian sat at the head of the long table in the meeting room, his eyes were fixed on the screen in front of him, but his mind was far away. The boardroom was very quiet except for the distant voice of the man standing with a pointer, sweating profusely, as he explains slides that Adrian wasn't even seeing. Everything was like a background noise to Adrian, he stared but he wasn't listening. His thoughts were back in the kitchen that morning. The incident that occurred and the way Ria had looked at him with wide eyes filled with shock and confusion. Was it all fake? Or had he gone too far?Did she really not know his father was returning? His sister? Was she genuinely surprised, or was it just another act to gain pity?Did she hurt herself on purpose, just to make him look bad when his father arrived? He clenched his jaw, staring blankly at the spreadsheet on the screen. Ria had looked hurt. And for a split second, when she had winced in pain, he’d felt something sharp twist inside him

Adrian froze as his eyes remained glued to the message on his screen. Across the kitchen, Ria, who had been trying to mind her business and focus on the dishes, couldn't help but worry.“Adrian, is everything okay?”Adrian's gaze snapped toward her. The moment their eyes met, Ria felt her heart sink. She could see the anger burning in his eyes.Ria swallowed hard, her hands trembling. She could have just shut her mouth and mind her business. Why was she worrying over someone who doesn't give a dime about her?Whatever anger he felt after receiving that message was about to be transferred to her.Adrian stared at her, his jaw clenched, as if looking for the right words to say. His gaze moved from her face to her fingers then back to her face. His hands tightened into fists as he took a step closer to Ria.Ria unconsciously backed away from the sink. Ria froze, her heart pounding in her chest. She turned slowly to face him, her finger still bleeding. The pain was almost unbearable. Adrian’s gaze was cold and hard, as if he hadn’t just heard her cry out moments before.“I said, where do you think you're going?” Adrian repeated, his voice void of any sympathy.“I... I just need to clean this up,” Ria stammered, trying to keep her composure. Her eyes moved to her finger, which was still dripping blood, but she could feel his icy stare pinning her down.Adrian didn’t move, his posture was relaxed and his eyes sharp. “And who asked you to leave the dishes?”Ria lifted her head in surprise, meeting his gaze.“Adrian, I'm injured, you don't expect me to—”“Shut up!
