Chapter 82

Bas POV

I stepped out of the room and headed to the kitchen, my mind still a whirlwind of thoughts about Becca. The moment I entered, Aubery greeted me with a warm smile.

"Great, you're here," she said, her tone light.

I nodded, walking to the counter and taking a seat on one of the stools. "Where's Tom?" I asked, looking around the empty kitchen.

"He stepped out," Aubery replied as she busied herself at the stove, fixing something for me to eat. After a few minutes, she placed a plate of food in front of me, the aroma wafting up and making my stomach growl.

"Thanks," I said, offering a small smile, appreciating her effort despite the heavy tension in the air.

She nodded and took a seat across from me, sipping her water quietly. The room fell into a comfortable silence as I ate, the clinking of cutlery against the plate the only sound. I focused on the food, trying to ground myself and push away the chaos in my head.
