Hi everyone, I apologize for last week’s erratic updates, especially in light of the fact that I had promised an update schedule and failed to deliver. If you have me on socials or read the comment in the last chapter, you’ll know that I had something very valuable of mine get stolen from me on Wednesday (when the last chapter was posted.) Since then, it’s been a thing of commuting from school to stations to sort it out with law enforcement. The last week drained me in every sense, honestly: hours and hours spent chasing false leads, giving statements, sitting through interrogations. I couldn’t focus on writing, on school. My entire life was basically on hold, but it’s all finally coming to a head now. I hope you enjoyed this chapter, because there’s more coming. Mathieu.

Layla’s POVHector arched a brow at me after speaking, and as usual, everything that followed (including the expression on his face) felt like a silent challenge that I was compelled to rise up to. I had my misgivings, but letting him in on the fact that the thought of going on a run with him fille
It was meant to be a joke told to take my mind off how eerily silent the whole place was, but when Hector nodded without missing a beat, I felt the screws holding my jaw together turn slightly loose.“I did,” he continued with a serious expression, but after a few beats it slowly eased as a corner o
Layla’s POVThe sound of rustling fabric as Hector and I breathed, saying nothing, seemed to echo out more loudly in the space surrounding us more than it normally would’ve; and for a split second I feared that this awkwardness would carry out for the rest of our time here together. Then I heard it,
