The meeting ended with them throwing insults and curse words at each other. Jared walked out when he had enough, as usual. Wade leaned back in his seat and deeply sighed.
“Is there still hope for him?” James asked once he knew his brother couldn’t possibly hear him.
“What else is there?” Wade replied while dismissing the others with a gesture of his hand. He’s already old and he really wanted to retire, but this son of his . . . he wasn’t assured that Jared will do as well as he did. His ideas and manner of doing things are obviously different than his. Sometimes, he couldn’t help but wonder . . . is his way really old-fashioned now? Have things changed so much over time? Still, he doesn’t want those changes to overtake the pack he loves. He can’t bear to see it.
He tried to reason with Jared, to discuss these things with him, but he’s sorely proud of himself and his own ideas. He’s beginning to wonder if anyone can make him listen.
As Jared left the meeting hall, he immediately went to the training grounds. He smirked as he saw the trainees becoming more serious with their tasks. They do slack off when he’s not around.
“You all must think I’m being lenient. Don’t think I don’t know what you do when I’m not here to supervise your training. Everyone, line up.” He barked the order and the young men scrambled to their position.
One thing about Jared, though, he’s of the opinion that only men can properly fight. Though they allow young girls to join the training program, when Jared comes to supervise, it’s only the boys he’s strictly observing. Right now, the young women lined up the perimeter of the training grounds, only watching what would unfold.
Some of the trainers looked away and rolled their eyes. How can their training be effective if he’s always bothering them? They’re always criticized and blamed by this bastard. As if he could do better training the youngsters? Given how they don’t have full authority with what they do in training, most of them have lost their passion and sense of responsibility. They no longer give it their all. After all, Jared would never be satisfied even if they’re already excellent. With the current situation, they doubt they would feel a sense of satisfaction when they only hear criticisms on a daily basis. Truthfully, it’s draining their energy and some have already mimicked Jared, acting grumpy and yelling most of the time.
They could only take a break and breathe properly whenever the man goes out of the territory for some official matters. He may not be the alpha yet but his father did delegate a number of duties and responsibilities to him. He was given free reign to do as he sees fit. It’s not all bad, but most can’t really stand the seemingly oppressing feeling in their chest. Why can’t they have a peace of mind and work diligently in a relaxed manner? Must they always act as if they’re overworking and having great difficulties? It’s tiring, that’s what.
Jared isn’t clueless. He knew exactly what they’re thinking, but this is his method and he believes it achieves the result he has in mind. They’re more vigilant. They’re stronger. He doubts they would achieve this level of strength if it wasn’t for his strict orders.
He doesn’t mind playing the bad guy, because he really is. He couldn’t care less about their grievances, as long as they’re prepared to defend the pack when it’s attacked. That’s all that matters to him. They don’t like him? So what? As long as they obey him when he gives orders, that’s enough.
One night, a woman boldly sneaked into his quarters. His eyes sharply stared at the figure on his bed.
His signature smirk was already showing, “What makes you think you can seduce me? Get the fuck out. Otherwise, I’ll give you a punishment.”
The woman didn’t look scared, which was a first, even to him. He’d seen her around the pack a number of times and you can say he’s already familiar with her face.
“As long as the punishment happens in this bed, I don’t mind. Come on, Jared. You need a release, don’t you? You’re always tense. You need to let loose once in a while. That’s what I’m here for.”
He could guess what the woman was thinking, or hoping to achieve, but he’s not one to partake in it. She’s interesting enough to talk with, he’ll give her that.
He’s not one to needlessly hit women, but it’s not as if he gives them enough respect. To him, strength is what earns you respect. Aside from his grandmother, his mother, and his mate, he doesn’t plan on having any close relationship with other women.
“I don’t need you here.” He went to get clothes and change.
“You don’t? You don’t have a mate yet, don’t you? How do you plan to pleasure her when the time comes? When she’s in heat? When she’s clinging to you for a few days? You need to know how to touch her properly, how to kiss, how to make her come . . .” Her seductive statements ended in a moan, which irritated him for some reason. He didn’t like that sound coming from a random woman.
“You sure are bold, I’ll give you that.” When he turned around, he was stunned to see her already naked.
His lip twitched, “However, I don’t need you to teach me. We’ve had that lesson a long time ago.”
“Do you still remember it, then? It’s all theory, though. You need an actual experience to learn it. How confident are you that you’ll be giving pleasure to your mate? That you won’t be a disappointment? I’m willing to show you tonight. You should take this chance.”
He narrowed his eyes as he took a few steps near the bed. He’s tempted a little, but he couldn’t bring himself to touch the woman in front of him.
The woman clearly thought he’s going to give in and smiled enchantingly. All she desired is a night with this man. She is beautiful, but like him, she hasn’t found a mate yet.
Jared closed his eyes and when he opened them, he looked terrifying.
“You have three minutes to fuck off. Get dressed and get the fuck out.” His tone was menacing. The woman could tell he’s not joking or messing around. She was momentarily stunned but quickly scrambled to get her clothes. She left quickly and he smirked at the closed door.
He took a deep breath before laying on the bed. He needed a good rest.
Soon, it was time for another alpha conference. For some reason, it will be hosted by Snow Mountain again. It probably has something to do with the recent attack in their pack. They wouldn’t dare to leave anytime soon.
He went there with the others, acting like nothing happened before. He wouldn’t apologize to anyone, not to Clyde or that woman. Ah, yes. He was told Clyde was the Alpha now. Inwardly, he felt some anger. He’s sure the man only became Alpha because he’s now mated. And that mate was supposed to be his. He couldn’t look at them without contempt. The woman kept her distance from him, always seen next to her mate. Wade has been watching his son’s every move. He gave specific orders regarding him. One misstep and he will be restrained like last time.
Thankfully, he seemed to behave well, even around Clyde and Sab. Or maybe Wade spoke too soon.
The next morning at Snow Mountain, Jared went on a walk before breakfast was served. He was checking the territory and the structures they have built after the last attack. Clearly, they have made changes and didn’t conform with the previous layout.
He was just beginning to relax when he caught a faint scent and frowned. It was sweet and enticing. His eyes slowly constricted as he began to understand what it was.
Mate! He has a second chance mate and she’s here!
Polly would never have imagined her mate would be anyone unordinary. She’s a simple girl. Her strength and skills are average at most. She’s not even very good with fighting. Her evaluation results fluctuate from month to month. She can’t seem to create consistent wins. Or at least, a two-to-one ratio of wins and losses. She rarely achieves winning all three. She was early today, preparing some equipment for their training. She felt a little different, like something’s about to change in her life. She couldn’t place it, what it was, until that moment. She stood up after stacking the equipment in one corner and deeply exhaled. It was a little tiring. She froze upon feeling a presence from behind her and her heart raced when a unique scent registered in her senses. No way . . .It’s not what she thought it was, right? She lowered her head and placed her hands over her heart. Was she ready to meet her mate? She thought of Ren, the guy she liked. Would she be able to let go of her feeling
After the man has been dragged away, Sab and Cleo stepped forward to check on Polly.“Oh, no . . .” Cleo lamented as they sat her up and Polly whimpered in pain. Her hand reached for her neck and felt the wound in there.“We’ll take you to the infirmary.” Sab decided and Quinn helped them to carry her.“You don’t look beat up this time.” Cleo noted, making him roll his eyes.“We didn’t get to fight. He wouldn’t leave her so we just kept trying to approach them.”Sab was relieved no one else was hurt. She remembered how badly they did before.“I’ll go and speak with Alpha Wade. You all take care of her.” Clyde informed his mate before leaving with his father. He’s still considered new to being Alpha and his father would advise him from time to time, guiding him and giving feedback. As they left, Clyde exchanged a look with his father.“He needs to be punished for this. Would Alpha Wade agree?”Conrad grimaced. The situation is tricky but they can’t give special treatment. They would ha
When Polly woke up, it was already dark outside. She saw her mother’s unimpressed look and her heart sank. She didn’t like her nagging.“How are you feeling?” Her mom’s tone wasn’t even comforting. It sounded reprimanding instead. Her hand automatically reached for her neck and she began to tear up.The older woman sighed, “Alpha wants to speak with you. Should I inform him? Can you talk to him in your current condition?”Polly sniffed, “I’m fine. I can talk to him.”“Alright. I’ll get you food, then I’ll go find him. You must be hungry.”She almost smiled. Her mom has an odd way of showing she cares. They’re not exactly close but she’s still their only child. She’s a bit of a rebel, doing what she wants and not listening to everything her parents want for her. Other than that, she’s quite obedient.Sab was the first to show up while she’s finishing a bowl of meaty porridge.“I’ve been meaning to visit you. It’s good that you’re awake now. How are you feeling?” Their Luna sat near h
“I would say that’s a good idea. You’ll be assured that he won’t be able to do anything inappropriate against you.” Sab spoke when the others didn’t.Clyde stared at the older man, who seemed to be contemplating for quite a while now.“Let Jared stay here for a while. It’s the least he can do. If they decide to move forward with their relationship, Polly is going to move into your pack. A short period of staying here is nothing compared to spending the rest of her life there, a place completely unknown to her.” He voiced out his suggestion, backing her thought.Polly sighed in relief; thankful they understood what she wanted to happen.Alpha Wade grimaced before quickly changing his expression. He looked very serious. “Consider it done. I’ll have him stay here for a while.”He’s beginning to lose hope that Jared would still change for the better. With him temporarily gone from Blood Moon, he can reorganize his pack and give more responsibilities to James. See if the people would prefe
“One month, Jared.”“No!” He couldn’t accept it. What is he do for a month in this place? He felt unsettled, thinking how he would have to let go of his usual duties. He likes being in control and knowing everything that occurs in the pack. He enjoys ordering people around and enforcing the rules he had set. He likes to be organized and chaotic at the same time. Seeing his men scramble to get things done fuel him with a desire to continue down that path. He likes fighting, proving to everyone that he’s the strongest man in Blood Moon. Anyone who dared to question him before were all beaten down and forced to submit to his authority. He has set the standards and made them train harder. He’d seen the progress and how each man has gotten stronger. He would take the credit and say it’s because of him. He did well and he’s proud of that. All the other issues in the pack, he deliberately ignored them. To him, they were irrelevant.“You will. I’ll give you time to adjust your mindset. You’ll
His expression remained cold and unyielding. He was escorted into the conference room. He was the first to arrive and he waited half an hour before two men entered the room. Clyde’s lip twitched. Jared didn’t even stand to greet them, not even a nod or a hello. Polly’s father pursed his lips in annoyance. He doesn’t like the demeanor of this bastard. He’s clearly a proud one and most likely arrogant. Clyde cleared his throat before taking a seat, “This is Patrick, Polly’s dad. Patrick, this is Jared, Alpha Wade’s eldest son.” Jared’s not sure what to say. He squinted before nodding in acknowledgement. Clyde could only sigh. Man, they’re expecting the guy to immediately apologize for what he did, but here we are . . . the man has no words to say and he doesn’t look sorry at all. A couple more minutes of silence ensued before Patrick huffed in disbelief. He let out a short laugh in a mocking tone. Jared didn’t like the sound of that. “Come on, Jared. What do you have to say?” Clyde
Jared pursed his lips. Well, that’s a lot to think about. He would admit he hasn’t looked at it that way. When he brings her to Blood Moon, he expects her to act like the rest of them. Yes, maybe what a traditional woman does at home. But then again, she’s supposed to be his Luna. She can do whatever she wants. If there’s anything she wants to get involved in, she has the freedom to do it.He scrunched up his face and Clyde was somewhat glad to see the changes in his expression. They sat there in silence, considering their options. Now that the conference is over and the guests have left, the news of what he did has slowly spread within their pack. Understandably, most, if not all, are angry at him. Clyde wondered if Jared would be safe if he walks outside all alone. Well, he should be strong enough to take down his opponents. Personally, he would be glad if someone could punch the bastard squarely in the face. He smirked at the thought.Half an hour passed. He thought that was enough
Clyde went to meet Alpha Wade afterwards. Jared returned to his new place while Patrick went back to work.“He didn’t try to kill the man, did he?” Wade asked as soon as he saw the younger alpha. His lip twitched. He really thought that? “You made me curious. What’s the worst scenario you anticipated?”Wade shrugged, “I suppose I expected him to assert his dominance. Challenge him into a fight or something. Beat him up and take the man’s daughter forcibly. But then again, this is Snow Mountain. He can’t do such a thing without serious repercussions. But I don’t know. He can be unpredictable at times. He would have no regard for rules. He already did, didn’t he?”“When are you leaving?” Clyde noticed that he has packed his luggage already.“In a few hours. I’ll be leaving two of my men to watch over Jared. They’re no match to him, though. They&rsquo
The alpha king audibly sighed in exasperation. These kids! Why don’t they listen?Thankfully, Jordan didn’t react negatively. In a way, he felt relieved that he could tolerate her proximity now. He managed a smile, which she promptly returned. He looked more handsome when he smiles! When the guy Alex called showed up, Jordan tensed up again.“Just stay there for now. We’re doing an experiment.” Alex instructed.“Alright.”“You’re not looking at him.” Alex noted, wondering why the boy would display aggression.Jordan grunted, “I could very well imagine him looking this way. At her.”Alex sighed. So, the potion worked for his possessive tendencies, but not for aggression.Through the mind-link, Alex asked the other boy to move closer. Jordan growled in warning and Alex told the boy to go, thanking him for his participation.“Were you like this yesterday? It’s a wonder you haven’t brawled with anyone yet.”“The training helped in distracting me. Right now, there’s nothing to distract me.”
She sheepishly told her parents what happened and she didn’t like the look her father was giving her.“He already told you that he’s having difficulty controlling himself and you still went to corner him? What were you thinking?”She pouted as she explained, “I just wanted to see for myself what exactly he’s going through.”Alex sighed. “What would you have done if he lost control? You should be thankful he managed to stop.”“Why is it my fault? It’s his responsibility to control himself.”“But you went to him, triggering the bond further. In that sense, it was your fault.”“Still, nothing really happened. I’m fine. Why is it that he’s strongly affected by the bond? The others I’ve seen weren’t.”This time, it was her mom who replied. “It’s different for everyone. You should be glad you’re not as affected as he was.”Xandra took a deep breath. “Fine. I understand.” She’d seen it for herself, so what else can she say? She also became curious. Why is it that he’s feeling more compared t
Xandra sat on her bed. She took a deep breath before closing her eyes and doing her best to locate him within the castle. She can’t mess up and link to a random person. She’d done that before and it was mortifying. She pictured his face in her mind and called for his name. Jordan. She called him three times before receiving a reply. He frowned when he heard someone calling him, but he’s currently alone in his room. He thought maybe someone was calling from outside the door. Also, it was a girl’s voice. What’s a girl doing in the men’s dormitory?“Who is it?” Frowning, he got up and went to open the door. He saw a couple of guys further down the hallway but that was it.As he closed the door, he heard her voice again.“It’s me, Xandra. You know who I am, don’t you?”“Xandra?” He gulped, unsure if he’s hallucinating or not. They’re not mated, so how can they have a link?“Hmm, you know who I am, right?” She badly wanted his answer to that.“The younger princess.”“And?”Jordan took a de
A few years later, in the middle of the night . . .Xandra gasped as she woke up, her surroundings still shrouded in darkness. What is it? She asked in her head. She sniffed as she caught a faint scent in the air. It was faint but something she immediately recognized. Her mate! He’s here! She grinned as she hurried from her bed and went to her older sister’s room.“Kaia!” She shouted with much excitement. The older woman bolted from her bed and even managed to take out the knife she kept strapped on her thigh. Her expression was one of confusion, even so, she was ready to fight. “What?”“Do you still sleep with that thing? You’re inside the palace.”Kaia frowned, looked outside the window, and stepped off the bed. “What did you yell for?! The sun’s not even out yet!”Xandra jumped up and down in front of her. “My mate! He’s here!”“What?”“I can sense him! I think he just arrived!”Kaia grimaced. “Why are you excited? He might not even be someone you’ll like. Calm down!”Yeah, that se
The thing is . . . the guy she likes is a year younger than her. She was nervous when her eighteenth birthday came, hoping she won’t feel a mate bond towards someone else. She was both relieved and disappointed when she felt nothing, though. If he was her mate, they’ll only know when he turns eighteen. And so, they continued their training. As his birthday loomed, she couldn’t help the trepidation she’s feeling. Still, they remained close and for his part, he was somewhat excited. He already told her when his exact birthday was, as if it was important that she needed to know.“What’s this about?” Janelle accepted his invitation to hang out. The Royal Pack has a dormitory for all visiting trainees, but this guy was a nephew of the reigning royals. He has a room of his own, which was twice as big as a regular room in Red Rogues.“Your room is nice.” She commented after looking around.Austin cleared his throat. “Tomorrow’s my birthday. I’m wondering if you would care to celebrate it wit
“You fucked up.”Polly stated from behind Jared as they watched their son walking away.He sighed before facing her. “What do you think I should’ve done?”“You could’ve told him much earlier.”“It’s not as if it was a secret. Everyone knew we meant for Janelle to take over as alpha.”“He’s still young. He might have heard but he might not have taken it seriously. Still, you haven’t properly discussed this with Janelle either, have you?”“I’m waiting until she’s of age.”“Shouldn’t you do it sooner? What if she declines? You would’ve made your son upset for no reason.”Jared grunted before sighing. “Would she?”“From my observation, I don’t think she’s quite interested.”He sighed again as Polly stood next to him.“He’s as mature as his sister. And I think she understands that as they grow older, she’ll be physically weaker than him.”His lip twitched. It’s true that he initially planned it that way because he wanted to be unconventional. He wanted to show that he doesn’t care if his h
Jared was worried. He left his mate and their daughter home. Polly was sick and couldn’t come with him to the celebration. The Alpha King and Luna Queen will be officially recognized. He was reluctant to go but she convinced him that he must.“You’re an alpha now. Your presence is required.”When he didn’t look convinced, she added, “We’ll be fine here. Nothing would happen. Alex already confirmed that there are no more Lycans. No one would attack us while you’re gone. Besides, don’t you remember Luna’s words? We’ll have a son soon.”Her eyes twinkled, looking forward to having another child. She has waited for so long before they were blessed with one. The prospect of having another made her excited. She wanted to be a mother. She wanted them to have an actual family, complete with children. He sighed as he relented, “Fine. I’ll come back as soon as I can.”“I know. Try to have a little fun, Jared. The war is over. When you return, we’ll be able to focus on our own lives. I’d like to
He sighed, holding her tighter, “I’m not. I’m sorry I made you worried.”“I thought you were upset that I finally got pregnant and that you didn’t really want to have a child.” She finally aired her complaint, wanting to hear his reassurance. He seemed surprise by her assumption, “How could that be? I want this child. I want to give you everything you want, anything that would make you happy.”He bent down and gave her a long kiss, which was exceptional.“I want you to name her.” She implored him after recovering her wits.“Me?”“Yes. Please?”Damn. He’s feeling more pressure from this task than the possibility of becoming an alpha.“Wait. Her? How do you know it’s a girl?” He raised an eyebrow and looked down at her stomach. That’s a pity. He wanted to have a boy, an heir. She grinned at his reaction and knew what he must be thinking. “Luna told me. Didn’t she tell you we’ll have another child after you become an alpha? That one will be a boy so you don’t need to worry about an heir.
“It’s not about the baby. He loves you and he wants the baby as much as you do because he knew it would make you happy. I told him one other thing. Just like you, he probably didn’t believe me at first, but now that you’re pregnant, he must be thinking the other matter will also come to pass. It’s something he has already given up on, so he’s probably having a hard time accepting it again. He’ll come around. Just give him time and continue to support him. You two are made for each other. He needs you.”Polly was relieved to hear it, but she became curious, too. “What else did you tell him?”Luna pursed her lips. “It’s not my matter to say. You should hear it from him. I’m sure he would eventually tell you. Just wait a bit more. Don’t be hurt by his actions. He’s already struggling so just show him your support. You’ve done it before, right?”She gave Polly an encouraging smile and the woman was reminded by her words. Yes, she has done it before. Years ago, she told him to open up to h
