(Cassie's POV)
“Attention! Principal Fricks wants all senior years, gathered in the auditorium now!” Mr. Foyer announced through the speakerphone. We all exchanged glances.“What do you think it is?” I asked.“We won't know until we actually go in” Jay suggested.Helen shouldered me out of the way.“Hey watch it!” Forrest warned. She didn't bother to turn or stop.“Just ignore her,” I said.Jay chuckled.“She's just mad 'cause Isabel totally went all 'mom crazy' on her,” he said.“That was weeks ago,” Forrest said.Isabel nudged me and gestured for me to look. Helen had a tongue down a boy's throat. I made a face.“Who's that?” Forrest asked.“Blake. And he's a freshman” Isabel replied.I gave her a look. She looked back and shrugged.“I have a lot of free time,” she said. “And I can bet you my last dollar that she's going to gamble all his money away.”“Hey, let's get going,” Jay said and took the lead.We followed. The hall was half full when we entered. The principal stepped onto the stage and tapped on the microphone, which let out a screech and brought the murmurs to a stop.“Seniors” he began.Someone let out a loud yawn, causing everyone to laugh.Principal Fricks chuckled.“Thank you, Tom.”The boy waved.“So, as you all know, your school counselor is in to review your current academic standing.”Isabel nudged me.“Have you started your college application?”I shake my head.“I thought you said—”“There's still more time Isa; don't worry” I whispered back, squeezing her hand. She smiled and squeezed my hand back.“As you all know, the SAT results are in” Principal Fricks continued. The murmurs began again.“Yes, yes, murmur all you want. Some of you are going to have to retake it” he continued, searching through the crowd. “Tom” he called out and smirked. The boy cowed.“Also, I suggest you try to get started on your college application essays. You're free to come to my office if you want a letter of recommendation; not that you'll succeed.”Everyone laughed.“Your student body president would like to have a word with you all. Have a good day.”He stepped down and Sawyer took the stage.“What's up Silver Wolves?!” he cheered into the microphone earning excitement from the crowd. He raised his hand and it died down.“We love you, Sawyer!” Isabel cheered, earning another round of excited cheers from the crowd.Sawyer grinned at her.“Well, I know who I'm asking to prom,” he said into the microphone.I chuckled. The other announcement went by quicker than expected and we were dismissed.I caught sight of Montana and tensed up.“You coming Cass?” Forrest asked.“Err, I'll catch up with you later,” I said to her and turned around.I pushed through the crowd, trying to reach her before she could leave. She smiled at something someone said and waved.“Montana, wait!” I called out.She turned back and a frown replaced the smile she had on earlier. I looked up at her and bit my lip nervously.“I've been meaning to apologize but you're always so busy. I didn't mean to turn you into a creamy, delicious mess” I said. She straightened her head and jutted out her hips. I looked away. My neck hurt from looking up at her so much.“I really am sorry,” I said again. She took a step forward and towered over me.“Your apology means nothing to me” she sneered. “Stay the hell away from me, or you'll regret it.”I gulped. She eyed me and turned away. I let out the breath I'd been holding in and felt my forehead. I glanced around nervously to see if anyone had noticed us. Then I settled on one of the benches nearby and calmed myself.“Hey, Cassandra!” Andrea, a girl from my Latin II class called out to me from the end of the hallway.I stood up.“Hey, Andy.”She smiled.“I just needed your help with these phrases. I have a makeup test and I'm not that good with these languages thingy and... I was actually looking for Isa but she was having a conversation with Helen and I didn't want to interrupt. You know how it is.”I nodded.“Sure. May I?” I asked. She handed me the textbook. This was basic Latin.I sighed softly.“Okay so, first, all you have to do is make sure each phrase has a corresponding definition,” I said. “I'll go first.”“Could you not start with Carpe diem?” she asked. “That's my strongest phrase. And could we start with the easy ones like Carpe diem?”“Okay,” I chuckled. She smiled gratefully at me.“Okay. 'Acta, non verba' means, 'Deeds, not words' okay?”She nodded.“Okay, ask me one” she said.“Are you sure? We've barely begun.”She nodded.“Hit me.”“Okay,” I said. “Translate—”“Timeout!” she cried.“I didn't even start” I chuckled.Andrea snatched the textbook and took a quick peek before handing it back to me.“Okay, now I'm ready. Hit me.”“Translate the phrase, 'In vino veritas'”She closed her eyes and inhaled deeply. I suddenly felt cold. I rubbed my arm and focused on Andrea. She exhaled and opened her eyes.“It means 'In wine, there is—” then she stopped.I raised a brow.“There is what?” I asked. “You're on the right track.”She didn't answer. Her eyes were fixed on something behind me.“In wine, there is... Jace Graham” she whispered.I frowned.“I think you're going to have to work harder than that to pass the test Andy,” I said. She shook her head and the coldness I felt from before intensified.“Jace Graham is behind you.”I turned. There he was, just standing, watching me. I stumbled back and stood beside Andrea.“Oh my goodness, Cass” she whispered. He looked away from me and flashed her a smile.“Andrea right?” he asked. She nodded and let out a short squeal.“He knows my name” she whispered to me, eyes wide, as she squeezed my arm.“Is that a reason to hurt my arm?” I whispered back. She let go and turned her full attention to Jace.“Could I borrow your friend for a second?” he asked her.I frowned. Andrea nodded and yanked the textbook away from me.“She's all yours” she grinned. “Take your time.”She turned away and I frowned at Jace.“I was in the middle of a very imp—”“Come with me” he ordered and grabbed my arm.It had been weeks since he threatened me at his house. And now he just showed up and wanted to talk?“Hey, let go!” I cried out.He ignored me and dragged me away.Everyone stared at us as we passed through the halls of Silver Wolves High. He took me to one of the old classrooms in the school which had been converted to a cool kids hangout.“What do you think of yourself huh?” he asked.I stared at him with confusion.“Me? You're the one who practically forbade me from coming near your house again. You don't say a word to me, and you just show up and nearly dislocate my arm. And I'm the one being blamed here?!” I ranted. He had gotten on my nerves without trying too hard. He glared back and put a fist on the wall.“And you're the one invading my dreams every night and making me feel weak! I am not weak! And you or anyone else has any right to make me feel that way!”Again came the inhuman growl.“Did you just... growl?” I whispered, my eyes searching his face.He ignored my question and trapped me against the wall with his other fist.“What are you doing to me? Why are you making me feel so helpless around you?” he asked, staring into my eyes. The frustration in his voice was evident.I stared back. Then his next words made my stomach flutter and my palms grow sweaty.“I want you so badly I can't even pretend anymore” he whispered, his hand gently grazing my arm.My body responded to his touch and as much as I was terrified, I felt so relaxed around him.“Why can't I stop thinking about you?” he asked and rested his forehead on mine.A lump formed in my throat and my heart started to race. I could feel his breath on my face. He smelled great. I closed my eyes and inhaled his scent.“I don't understand why we're here right now” I whispered. “You haven't glanced my way since the party. It's like I irritate you or something. And now?” I paused. “You're telling me you've been thinking about—”He pressed a finger to my lip and my breath hitched to the back of my throat.“I'm saying, you're all I think about Cassandra. I swear” he whispered. “You're driving me crazy.”I leaned closer and rubbed my nose against his.Where was this energy coming from?“Well you can't complain because you're doing the same damn thing to me right now” I whispered. It was true. I liked this; a lot. I know it was supposed to creep me out but it felt amazing and I wouldn't want to trade this second for anything else.He exhaled and took a gentle yet possessive hold of my shoulders.“I think I'm—”The door slammed shut.“Jace, can we talk? It's about the—”He pulled away and my knees began to get weak. I turned to look at the person at the door and I felt the sense returning to my body. Her eyes widened at the sight of me.“You again?!” she shrieked.“Montana calm down.”She pushed past him and marched up to me.“I should have known you and your stupid little cult friends were out to get me!”She pointed an accusing finger at me.“You're the one who's been putting ideas into my boyfriend's head, aren't you? You turned him against me just so you could swoop in and bag him like the bitch you—”Jace spun her around before she could complete her statement and the next thing that happened got me even more confused.Jace grabbed her waist, pinned her against a column, and kissed her; long and deep. I felt a nasty sting in my chest, and like the weirdo I was, I just stood there and watched.Didn't we just have a moment?I lowered my eyes and chuckled. I wasn't his type, I wasn't his class, and playboys were going to remain playboys.Without any regrets, I run out the door only to bump into someone.“Woah, woah, blondie” he chuckled, catching me by the shoulders.“Not now, Chris,” I said, avoiding his eyes. His eyebrows creased and he lifted my chin. I watched his eyes search my face and then he held out his finger to my cheek. He took his finger away and held it up in my face.“You're crying.”“Cassandra, please open the door” Isabel called out, gently knocking on the door. She stayed in bed, her thoughts being the only thing keeping her company for the five school days she'd been 'feeling sick'. Isabel bit her lip. “How about some fresh air huh? It'll just be the two of us at the park just like the old times.”Cassandra did want the old times back. Where she would have never met Jace or Montana. Where she wasn't forced to grow up and where her parents and brother were alive. But that was impossible now. “Cassandra Martinez! If you don't open this door right now, I swear to God that I am going to—”“Go away Isa” her best friend croaked out. “I told you I have the flu and it's contagious so I can't let you in; not through the door, not through the window.”Isabel sighed. “A flu? Shouldn't you see a doctor before you decide you have a flu?”Cassandra tossed in bed. “I'm just going to sleep it off, Isa.”“For how long?”Cassandra sighed. “Just please leave me alone for
(Cassie's POV) The constant beeping of the alarm woke me up. I groaned and turned, only to land on the floor. Now I was fully awake. I sat up and looked out the window. Our garden looked different. The birds were chirping. The roses, daffodils, sunflowers, all had butterflies frolicking around them. It could only mean one thing. Spring had come early. I grinned and stood up from the floor. I had to turn in my college admission essay soon and I wasn't sure if I wanted to leave home. I bit my lower lip and arranged my fabric rolls in the corner of the room. My phone pinged and I moved over to pick it up. Before I could process the text message, the door creaked open and two figures came barreling in. “Happy birthday!” they screamed. My eyes lit up. “Auntie!” I cried excitedly and run to hug her. She squeezed me. “Happy birthday my darling” she whispered, kissing my cheek. “Now make a wish, this thing is heavy” I heard Natán say. “Four years and you're still a jerk” I teased.
“Mom!” Cassandra exhaled, a rush of emotions going through her. Then she frowned. “Is this some kind of sick joke?” she yelled.Alba choked on her tears and moved over to wrap her daughter in a hug. Cassandra wasn't sure how she felt at that moment. Then she caught sight of her father and José. Alba stepped away from the hug and cupped her daughter's face in her hand. “Oh, you're even prettier than the pictures Milena sent.”Cassandra frowned at turned to her aunt. “Auntie? You knew?” Milena nodded. “But I swear miha, it was for your own—”Cassandra backed away. “Don't come close to me” she whispered. Her heart was racing. “Honey, we can explain,” Diego told her, reaching out to her. She moved even further. “Don't come close to me either.”Diego felt hurt. José looked at his sister. Her eyes had turned teary and the fright was visible on her face. “CJ look—”“Eight years. I mourned for you all for eight years”Alba sniffed. “We didn't mean for this to happen my darling I
(Cassie's POV) I heard the ringing again as I slowly opened my eyes. I felt the sweat all over my body and I waited for the pain to set in. I groaned.“I think I broke all two hundred and six of my bones” I murmured, my eyes closed. I couldn't pinpoint where exactly the pain was. Someone chuckled gently beside me and I turned my head. “It's normal. You're eighteen now and everything is falling into place.”The voice belonged to a beautiful young woman. She smiled at me. “Don't worry, I'm harmless” she assured. I eyed her. “Are you one of them too? A werewolf?” I asked. She looked up from the chart she was holding. “Only when I need to be” she answered. “But right now, I'm your doctor and I have your interest at heart.”I looked away. “So tell me, how do you feel?”“Terrible” I replied curtly. She pauses for a second before proceeding to ask the questions. “Can I go home now?” I asked. “I'm uncomfortable.”“Of course” she replied. “My name is Elise, and I'm the pack's doctor
(Cassie's POV) I raced down the stairs at the sound of his voice. “José!” I cried and jumped up to hug him. He faked a groan and twirled me around. “Well, you're a sight for sore eyes.”I chuckled. “It's only been a week,” I said. The girl from before was with him again. I waved at her and smiled. “Why don't you take a seat, I'll be right back,” José said and kissed my temple. I nodded. “One sec” he mouthed to the girl who just smiled at him. I eyed them both, not being able to hold back my smile. I felt a chill and I knew Jace was around here somewhere. He moved up to my side and looked carefully at me. “You okay?” he asked. I shrugged. “It could be worse” I replied. He gave me an amused look. Then the other door swung open revealing Montana. She was arguing with our parents but she paused and frowned when she saw me. “Ugh, what is she doing here?”“This is her home too Montana. And she's your sister.”“Oh enough with the drama Mom” she snapped and turned her attention
(Jace's POV) I sat on the couch fiddling with my laptop. “Jace?” Michael called, coming in. “Over here” I called out. He flung himself down beside me. “Your mother told me. Where is she?” he asked with too much excitement in his voice. “They're taking a tour around the house” I replied. “I'll wait,” he said. I chuckled. “Don't you have work to do?” I asked. “You have work to do too but you're here.” I shook my head. “So tell me, how di—”He stopped. “Dude, your mate's hot,” he said through the mind-link. I refused to look at her. I could sense she was scared. “Erm Jace, can I talk to you?” she asked. “I'm busy!” I snapped. She jumped a little. “Too busy to see what your mate needs? I don't think so” I heard my mom's voice. I looked up at her. “I came to get your sisters but maybe I should go with Cassandra too.”I sighed. “We'll talk in my study,” I said to Cassandra, closing my laptop. “Bye you two” Michael called after us. I rolled my eyes. “Fuck off dude! Ge
(Cassie's POV) I gasped at the large wolf that was in my room. I clutched my bathrobe, my hair still wet. I jumped onto the bed and swallowed hard. The big brown wolf shifted back into his human form and I looked away from his naked body. “Well hello there little Luna,” he said with a smirk. “Why, you have your mother's lovely eyes.”“Stay back!” I cried. He raised his hands in surrender. “Oh so brave” he teased. “I see the Alpha's hot headedness is rubbing off on you.”I clutched the robe tighter. “What do you want?” I stammered. “Oh that's really easy” he snarled, slowly circling the bed. “You!”His eyes flashed red. “Jace!” I screamed. The man laughed at me. “Oh, he's not coming, child.”At that point, I began to cry. I didn't sign up for wolves and threats. “Just go away!” I screamed and threw pillows at him. One hit him in the face. The man growled and began to circle the bed. In a flash, he shifted back into his wolf form and licked his lips. “No” I whispered. He pou
(Cassie's POV) My phone beeped and I looked up from my bowl of cereal and picked it up. Isabel: You busy? Me: For you? Never. Isabel: How about an ice cream date? Me: You had me at ice cream. Isabel: LOL. Meet me at Creamers. Me: See you soon ♡“Who are you texting?”I looked up at Jace and put the phone away. “No one.”He gave me a suspicious look. I looked away and hurriedly finished my breakfast. Jace frowned. “Slow down, you're going to choke.”I looked up. “I've 'got to 'et to 'cho—”“Don't talk with your mouth full!” he scolded. I swallowed the milk and wiped my mouth with the napkin. “I've got to get to school” I repeated “It's the weekend.”I shrugged.“So?”He looked taken aback. “Fine, go,” he said angrily. “I'm already going” I retorted. I headed upstairs and changed my clothes before coming back down. I was almost in the living room when I saw Jace standing with a girl. His back was to me. The girl hitched her leg up and he swiftly caught it. Then she whisp
3 years later...(Cassie's POV) “Honey please stay still. You'll wrinkle your dress” I groaned as I tried to comb Mia's hair. “Mom, it hurts!” she whined and pulled away. “Well you didn't want to use the de-tangling shampoo, remember?” I scolded. “C'mon, we have to hurry before your sister wakes up.”I grabbed her hand. “Noooo, I don't wanna. It hurts!” she whined louder“Oh, Mia...”A loud cry came from my room and I knew the little one was awake. “Mom! There's no toilet paper!” Max cried out. I groaned and looked at Mia who sat there rubbing her head. I opened my mouth to scold her when Kristie walked in. “I've got it Mrs. Graham, don't worry,” she said, taking the brush from my hand. I sighed. “Go check up on the baby,” she told me. I nodded and gave her a grateful look before walking into the nursery. “Momma!” she let out when she saw me. “Mommy's here baby” I cooed and picked her up. I kissed her and wiped her tears. She buried her face in the crook of my neck and I g
~Two months later(Cassie's POV) “Happy birthday...” I heard a voice whisper. I slowly opened my eyes and saw Jace smiling at me. I smiled back and he helped me up. “I better get going. Michael's freaking out already” he chuckled, kissing my temple. “Why would Michael be freaking out?” I asked, throwing my hair in a messy bun. Jace gave me a confused look. “What?” I asked, pinning the bun. “I just asked why Michael would be...”Then it hit me. How could I possibly forget?!“Oh my goodness! Today's the wedding?!” I cried out. “You forgot?” he asked. “What?! No” I lied. Jace chuckled. “What are you still doing here anyway? Go already, the best man can't be late” I said and pushed him out the door. I hurried to take a quick shower and decided to dress there so I don't waste time. Thankfully, my bump doesn't really show in the dress. I fixed my hair and put on some makeup before slipping on my shoes. I grabbed my purse and headed out to my parent's house. ~ ~ ~“Sorry I'm la
(Cassie's POV)I groaned and got back under the covers.Covers?!I forced my eyes open and the bright light from the windows blinded me. I groaned again as my stomach let out a rumble and pulled myself to sit up.A lady dressed in white stood up and walked towards me with a wide smile plastered on her face. I rubbed my temple.“How're you feeling Ms. Adler?” she asked.“How long have I been asleep?”“Only two days” she replies. Only?! Which means all the other packs were gone by now. I eyed her before speaking up again. She's pretty. “Who are you?”“I'm Sharon. Doctor Elise asked me to stay with you till you wake up.” “Well, now I'm up so you can go. Thank you, but your service isn't needed anymore” I said firmly, groaning a little. “Sharon's not going anywhere” my dad's voice boomed from the doorway. “Mr. Adler” Sharon greeted and bowed down at him. “She's been recommended by Elise so she stays till you're better.”“Daddy, I don't need a nanny. I can take very good care of my
(Cassie's POV)News traveled fast in our pack. Everyone came to express their sympathy, acting like my baby was dead. I walked out of the gym through the door of the pack house and everyone stopped to bow to me as I passed by. Not forgetting to add sympathetic looks. I moved into the living room and dropped on the couch, avoiding eye contact with everyone. The door leading to Jace's office was wide open. I saw him standing behind his desk flipping through some paperwork. Max and Mia left with Emily and Nicole back to London for their safety. Jude was nowhere to be found and André decided to stay back. Cassidy was in a wheelchair... but only temporarily. I glanced at Michael as he passed. He smiled sadly at me before walking into Jace's office. “Jace” he called when he entered. Jace looked up and raised his eyebrows. “Yeah?” he said impatiently. “We think we picked up a scent trail on your daughter.”I sat upright as Jace walked around the desk and stood right in front of Micha
(Cassie's POV) I stood in the doorway of the bedroom and stared at him in awe. He was so adorable when he was sleeping. Max looked so much like him. I smiled to myself as a mischievous grin appeared on my face. “Jace!” I screamed as I jumped on top of his sleeping. He grabbed me and threw me underneath him, his hand over my mouth. I waved. “Really?” he chuckled and climbed off me. I laughed. “I'm sorry, it's just that you looked so good sleeping, I just had to”. He looked down at me. “I'm sorry!” I cried playfully and hugged him. “Don't be mad, please?” I said in a tiny voice and pecked his cheek. He grinned. “You're weird as shit,” he said between laughs and I nodded in agreement. He pulled me in for a hug. “I love you” I breathed in his chest as he kissed my forehead. “Me more” he replied. “Go take a shower,” I said and let him go. (Jace's POV) Once I was done showering, I called out to Cassandra to hand me a towel which she did. I stepped out in my boxers and saw her
She grabbed a dress and tried it on. Standing in front of the mirror, tilted her head.“No,” she said and took it off.She tried on another dress.“No!” she screamed and dropped on the bed.Alec rolled his eyes and continued to cut through the paper.“I have nothing to wear for tonight! Alec help me” she pleaded. He ignored her and continued to cut the paper.“Give my back my scissors!” she said and took back her scissors.“What do you want me to do?” he asked with a sigh. “What is the matter with you?”“I'll tell you. I don't like how you treat Cassandra. She's our sister for Pete's sake! And I don't like you hanging around with Blair. She's changing you; you're changing. You're not the big sister I looked up to and admired anymore. You're a spoilt little brat and I can't live with you anymore” he said and grabbed his pillow. “What are you doing?” Cassidy asked. “Alec, I am speaking to you!”“I'm going to Cassandra's. I don't wanna be roommates anymore.”Cassidy's face fell.“I'll c
(Cassie's POV)“What is the matter with both of you?!” the old woman asked. “Look, I don't know why you're screaming but it's not good for you,” I tell her.“I don't wanna hear another word from you”.She turned when the door closed. “How's she now?” she asked Elise.Elise sighed.“What really happened, Cassandra?” Elise asked me.I remained quiet and got back to flipping through the Vogue magazine.Michelle sighed.“Elise, how's Blair?”Blair walked in with a cast around her arm and a bandage around her head. Her face... all bruised up.“Oh,” they chorused.“I thought I told you to rest,” Elise said firmly.“I don't need to rest. I'm fine” Blair said looking directly at me.“There, she said it. She's fine. Now I'm leaving” I said and jumped up from my seat.“Don't you dare take another step young lady!” Dad barks.“Oh gimmie a break, dad.”“No. I'm afraid I'm going to have to punish you” he said.“But dad—”“No son. I'm going to have to punish your sister.”“Well if you punish her..
(Cassie's POV)Time flew by.Summer found out André was her mate and she was beyond excited. I formed a really tight bond with my baby brother. I loved him to bits. I can't really say the same thing about Cassidy though. I mean that girl was a pain in the everything. So moving on. Blair and I hadn't been getting along, but that wasn't anything new. Jace had been trying to bond with Madison but it wasn't not really working out. And speaking of Jace... A knock interrupted me.“Come in,” I said looking through the paperwork. “Are you still mad about the kiss?” he asked. I seized up the yellow pencil lying on the desk and threw it. It sailed through the air and struck the wall just next to Jace's head, where it struck, vibrating. His eyes widened for a second and I smiled faintly. “Sorry, I didn't realize it was you.”Jace chuckled. “But it's a shame I have only one pencil” I sighed. “What can I help you with Mr. Graham?”“Cass, I'm sorry about the kiss...”“What kiss?” I asked, si
(Cassie's POV) “No, I want it cute... not too simple though,” I said through the phone.Members of the other packs waved and smiled as I passed by. I paused when a few teens ran up to me with notepads and cameras. I gave them my autograph and took selfies with them.“I don't know but I feel it's a girl,” I say. “No. I want it to be perfect.”I saw Montana walk in and look at me. “Err... Ray, I've gotta go. I'll call you later” I said. She suddenly let out a groan and I rushed up to her. “Are you okay?” I asked helping her sit. “The baby's coming!” she cried out. “I just felt my water break.” “Cassie?” Rose called. “Call an ambulance!”“It hurts!” Montana whimpered.I rubbed the back of her hand. “Breathe sweetie. It'll be fine” I told her. “Where on earth is the ambulance?!”“What if I lose another child? I'll be the fifth one. I don't think I'll be able to take it” she said in tears. “No, no, no” I whispered to her. “Ethan would be heartbroken.”“Don't think like that” I sai
