Alona's eyes, head, arms, and legs were bandaged. There are also neck braces attached to the maiden's neck.

Only the oxygen concentrator supports her body to survive.

She could barely move her whole body, and she could not speak either. She was like a corpse lying but still breathing and her spirit was wide awake.

Trembling, Ivan approached her and every step was heavy. Tears welled up in his eyes and he could not believe of what had happened to the girl.

But he was not very close to Alona because her future husband, Carlos, suddenly came. It even hit him on the shoulder, but he just ignored it.

“Alona! can you hear me?” he said with concern. The girl slowly moved one of her fingers and the two young men saw it.

Carlos smiled and burst into tears, kissing her hand at the same time.

Ivan just turned around and left the room for a while.

He took a deep breath and leaned his back against the wall. His knees are weak and he still cannot accept the tragedy that befell the Desepeda family.

Ivan Jonathan Ocampo, or better known as Ivan, thirty years old. Former best friend and childhood friend of Mike Desepeda, Alona's older brother.

When they were young he was really close to the Desepeda family. When his parents abused him, they, (the Desepeda couple) decided to take him and adopt him as part of their family.

He owes a lot to Desepeda's, but it's all because of his best friend Mike.

He simply chose to serve them as the siblings' personal tutor. Moreover, he felt that it was better not to be a burden and to abuse their kindness.

So in return, he promised the Desepeda couple that one day he would repay the kindness they had given him. Since then, he has worked hard at night and a student in the morning. He also didn't want to rely on what the siblings gave him, so even though blood often dripped from his nose he continued and did not waste time.

Mike witnessed his diligence. He just smiles and marvels at the friend whenever he finds him sound asleep on the table and obviously tired.

One day, he talked to his friend and he asked for a favor.

“Ivan, can i ask you even one request?” said Mike as they both walked into the garden.

“Wish?" Ivan said and looked at his friend.

They stopped walking for a moment and Mike faced the young man.

“Ivan, promise me that you will marry my sister, Alona.” He knew that Ivan will surprised by it, so he held his hand gently.

“Huh? what are you saying, marriage? Alona is too young for me to marry her, and you know that we are like dog and cat." He said with a mischievous smile on his face.

“Please, i beg you, Ivan. Take care of her. I don't want to see her hurt and cry because of another man.” He pleads.

“What are you saying, Mike? Why do you seem so serious now? Do you have a problem?"

Mike was silent for a moment. He just bent down and seemed to be suppressing the emotion he was feeling.

“I'm sorry, i know you don't like serious conversations. But every time i think about my sister's future, it's like i'm being stabbed in the heart over and over again.” He said and suddenly tears dripped from his eyes which worried the young man.

Ivan was shocked because this was the first time he had seen and heard him emotionally. He often sees him smiling, happy and always laughing whenever they are together. But in those moments, he seemed that the former Mike he knew was brave and energetic was just a masquerade. He doubted that despite everything he had, he was also going through a difficulty.

Just over two days ago, Mike admitted in front of his family that he had Bone Marrow Cancer or Leukemia. The bad news he knew suddenly brought down the Desepedas. They also almost lost hope of crossing their company again and passing the inheritance to him because of his worsening illness.

Ivan did not show up to his friend for over a week. He stayed at his coworker's house for a while, but he chose not to stay long, so he searched for a place to rent at a lower rent.

He wasn't ready to face his best friend again after he found out of his serious health condition. However, he often passes by and stops in front of his house, but he also leaves immediately.

Mike, on the other hand, thought that he was upset because he had hidden his serious illness from a friend.

But what he didn't know was that he was just afraid to face him and see his worsen condition.

As time went on, he gradually became more difficult and lost weight because of his condition. He was always in the hospital and playing the guitar. Occasionally, Alona makes him smile, and she practices ballerina in front of him.

Nor did they show or make the young man feel the sadness and pain they felt over their son's plight. Instead, the couple poured out all their love, care, and courage to him.

Mike was like that, so even though the situation was very difficult he still struggled, he did not lose hope that he would also be able to overcome each of those trials.

But that silence and courage of his was suddenly shattered. They awoke to the fact that there was no hope of prolonging the young man's life.

Her mother just cried, as her husband hugs her.

By chance, Mike peeked out of his room and for the first time saw his parents crying over him.

So instead of taking courage, he suddenly lost hope and feared for the future.

He just stepped back and sat down to one side. There he poured out all the pain and weight he had long harbored in his heart.

A few moments later, the Desepeda couple also entered his room. They were shocked to see the young man lying on the floor unconscious.

They immediately called a nurse and doctor. He lay down on his bed again and carefully examined the condition of his body.

The doctor spoke to them intensively.

“Your child's illness is in the final stage. His condition is worse and more difficult now. I also can't promise that he will have a long life, within this week or maybe after three to four days, he might disappear. I really apologize to you. ” After the doctor said that, he turned around and left his office for a moment.

The couple couldn't believe what they heard. Mrs. Desepeda chased the doctor and knelt in front of him.

“Please, i beg you all. We are willing to pay, no matter how much, as long as you just help my son recover. I don’t care how long or how expensive we will spend, if you could just pass on his pain to me, i wouldn’t hesitate to do that. Doc, Mike is still young. He was a smart and very kind child. So, why with so many people who can have such a disease, why my child? Is there really no other way for you to save my son from the brink of death? i beg you, doctor. Help my child. Just me, just take me.”

Despite her pleas, she was released from the doctor's arms. She sat on the floor and just kept crying.

Ivan witnessed and heard all her pleas to the doctor. Tears welled up in his eyes and he just looked in the other direction to relieve the weight he was feeling.

“I'm sorry, Mrs. But i am just a doctor and not God.” The doctor replied once he left.

In the distance, he suddenly saw Alona walking towards them and looking at the patients she met.

He was suddenly afraid that the girl might see her parents miserable condition. So, he quickly approached Alona and blocked in front of her.

“Ivan?” she wondered when he saw it.

“Alona, ​​do you know where to buy fruit?" he only asked her to get the girl's attention.

“Huh? i saw someone outside selling fruits earlier.“ She was pointing outside the hospital.

“Is that so? can you come with me?”

“But-” she was about to peek behind Ivan, but the young man quickly blocked her and put his arm around her shoulder.

“Come with me, i don't know what fruit your brother wants.” That's all he told her.

“All right, but let's just buy quickly, okay?"

He also convinced her to go with him.

Ivan turned behind him for a moment and saw the nurses lifting Mrs. Desepeda, because she suddenly fainted there.
