Chapter 43

Magnus' POV

I didn’t hesitate when I reached the huge gate; I started to park my motorcycle behind the trees. I knew the secret path from the back that led inside—an escape route.

Just like before, the grass was overgrown, but the path remained somewhat clear. I began checking my backpack and took out my survival knife.

I needed to unlock the padlock there. Luckily, I knew how to fiddle with things, and I managed to open it. I kicked it hard, and the door creaked slightly open.

"Damn it!" I grabbed my bag and squatted down, hearing footsteps above me. The grass concealed me, so they didn’t see me. They were carrying high-caliber guns.

I knew they were guarding the perimeter. I understood my aunt Cat’s plan. She took Vanna because that was her weakness. Despite what she had said, I still couldn’t believe that Jay and Vanna were her children. How could that be?
