Packing
The next few weeks of school went by fairly quickly considering how nervous I was about going to Europe. Nuthatch had left the next morning, after he had cleared it with Mage Jaye that I would be traveling as soon as Thanksgiving break began. They told me I could bring one member of my pack with me. It wasn’t a difficult choice, even though I knew everyone wanted to come. I assured them all that they’d get to come soon enough if I didn’t screw this up. When the secretary for the council called to ask me who needed passports, I told her myself and Ben, and she had them expedited quickly. We got them within a few days. I didn’t ask whether or not it was magic or just the ability to cut through the red tape, but considering neither of us had to go fill out any paperwork or even sit for the pictures, I was pretty sure there was magic involved.

I managed to go back to sleep for a little while until the plane was about to land in Paris. I had settled down some, no longer terrified about Mage Maggie, or whatever the hell her name was, stalking me. Ben and I got out of the car. Lenny hopped out and got our bags, depositing them on the drive beside us as we both gawked at the building, and then he got back behind the wheel and drove away. I am a mage--not a shifter. I have no idea what it’s like to be a shifter or what it feels like to shift. But with the entire board looking at me, waiting for me to change my form into something else. I had no idea what was about to happen, but I’d decided what I was going to shift into, so I took a deep breath and envisioned my body changing form.The strangest sensation took over my body as I expanded in places where I needed to grow and my bones had to break and reform in other places. It didn’t hurt, oddly enough. But it did feel weird in a way I can’t explain, sort of like when your hand falls asleep and starts to tingle; it isn’t really painful, it’s just uncomfortable. Within a matter of seconds, I knew that the shift was complete. I was looking at them through larger eyes, with four feet on the ground, staring at them as they gazed up at me.
