Mia's POV

My heart stopped beating, and my breath caught in my throat. I could not believe what had just happened in front of me.

That bullet Uncle Marco fired was meant for me. But Xavier stepped in between. He took that bullet in his back while shielding me from death.

"XAVIER!"

All the air left my lungs as I screamed his name.

He fell to the ground. I knelt beside him and placed his head on my lap. His eyes were closed, his face pale. I couldn’t stand seeing him like that.

"Xavier, open your eyes. Why did you do that? Why did you take that bullet? Wake up, please," I cried, but he didn’t open his eyes. I gently shook him, desperate for him to wake up and look at me. My tears began pouring down, falling onto his face. But he remained still, not moving a finger. I felt like my own life was slipping away.

I heard chaos around me. People were shouting and running toward us.

"Ma’am, please let us take him to the hospital," I heard Sam asking me to let go of Xavier. But my heart and body
