Sofia's Pov
I finished saying my vows with a shaky voice, and I'm sure the priest urinated on himself as the terrifying bloodshot eyes of the man fell on him. “I pronounce you, husband and wife, you may--” The priest didn't finish the words as he grabbed my hand and dragged me away from the altar, my brother was missing in the crowd lying on the floor out of fear, and I could see dead bodies among them. I took one last glance at the dead man by the altar and prayed for God to let him rest in peace, this will haunt me until the day I die but for now, I need to focus on where I'm going. I swallowed any protest against his iron grip on my hand, he wasn't hurting me because I had felt worse and my father almost broke my hand one time he held me like this, he opened the door to another Porsche car parked outside and shoved me in. I groaned and obliged then he entered the driver's seat and brought the engine back to life, I looked outside the window and saw the driver who brought me here leading my brother towards the other car. My heart tripped over the next beat and I wanted to yell but he winded up the window, “Put on your seat belt, girl” He spat as if I disgusted him, I glared at the back of his head and thankfully he didn't notice. I did as he said and he drove off at high speed, I'm sure it's illegal to drive at such speed and he is breaking the rules. This man doesn't look like a person who cares about such rules, and that scares me. What if he decides to kill me if he sees that I'm of no use to him? He didn't bat an eyelash when he killed that man back there, he stopped at a huge gate and I snapped out of my thoughts when I noticed we'd reached our destination. The gate opened and he drove into the manor, I didn't say a word as he parked the car outside a beautiful mansion. “Get out” He ordered coldly and I flinched before scampering out of the car, I stumbled on the layers of my wedding dress and fell on my knees. I quickly stood up as he slammed the door shut, I followed him inside the beautiful mansion, and instead of focusing on my surroundings, I couldn't stop thinking about what this man was going to do to me. He left the door to his living room wide open and I walked in shutting the door after me, he turned abruptly and I froze under the intensity of his burning gaze. “How old are you, little girl?” He demanded and I gulped, I wouldn't blame him I have the appearance of a seventeen-year-old girl, slender and skinny out of malnutrition and overworked bones. “Twenty, I'm twenty years old, sir” I managed to reply without stuttering. “That your bastard of a father told me you are Twenty-seven, what the hell am I supposed to do with another kid?” He growled and I took a step back, as if he noticed that I was shaking in fear. He sighed running his hands on his tousled black hair, dark circles were under his eyes and his piercing blue eyes are bloodshot, he looked tired and so frustrated I wondered if I was the reason why. “Can you take care of children?” He asked in a calm voice. Children? My brother is eleven years old and I have taken care of him since our mother died, it's not as if I'm an expert in taking care of kids but from the way he is glaring at me, I digress from saying the truth so I nod. “Use your words, young lady” He grunted irritated at my trembling state. “Ye..yes I can” I stuttered and he sighed. “Good, you will be taking care of my baby girl and my little boy, make sure they are well-fed and clean at all times. You should be able to make baby food and make sure she doesn't cry” He listed out all the things I should know, where the baby's milk is stored, and how she likes her food. I wondered what happened to his previous wife, it's not just that the house seemed empty and silent as a graveyard. “The maids will show you the way to your room” He grumbled and walked past me leaving me alone in the living room, the sound of the door slamming shut made me exhale hard. I can't believe I will be taking care of a baby when I don't even know how to change a diaper, the sound of footsteps heading from under the stairs jolted me out of my thoughts. Four young girls and three men dressed in black and white uniform emerged, they bowed when they saw me. “Welcome, young Mistress,” They said in unison and it felt like I was in a cult, I cringed at the title and I was going to tell them to stand up when one of them spoke up. “Permission to rise and return to our chores, Ma?” I frowned as they were still bent in that awkward position, are they seriously asking me to tell them to get up? “Um... Permission granted?” I said awkwardly and they straightened their posture, five of them turned and left the same way they came in and two girls stayed back. “Well that was intense” I chuckled trying to lighten the mood but they kept a blank expression on their face, why are they acting so scary like robots? “Please follow us to your assigned room” One of them gestured for me to use the stairs and I obliged, they led me up the spiral staircase and we got to a hallway. They stopped at a brown door and bowed again, “We already prepared your bath and clothes, please let us know if you need anything else” One of them said. “Permission to leave, Ma?” The other one asked in that robotic tone, I sighed and nodded. They left and I opened the door, the room was beautiful compared to my old room at my father's house. I hope Carl is okay and I couldn't even ask my husband if he could come stay with me. I don't think I'm going to be asking for favors anytime soon if I'm gonna be keeping my head. I went to take a bath at the luxurious bathroom and they weren't kidding when they said they prepared my bath. After the bath, I finally felt my soul return to my body. I collapsed on the king-sized bed. I can’t help but recall what happened today which sapped all my energy and my consciousness faded. The sound of gunshots and screams echoed in my ears and I felt the blood of that man on my face. No this can't be happening, it's not real. I felt it running down my cheek. Warm, thick… “Oh, god” I screamed I opened my eyes to see two babies, one on top of my chest while the other one stared at me pouting with misty eyes. Oh shit is she going to cry…Sofia's Pov I quickly turned on the light and gasped as I noticed she was going to cry. A loud cry made me flinch as the baby beside me started crying as if on cue the other one on top of me followed, the door burst open, and an angry-looking man with a gun glared at me. My husband looked like he was on the verge of pulling the trigger and I quickly got out of my stupor, I carried the youngest who looked like a baby. Oh, the baby who needs to be fed well, and it's passed time for her dinner I think. The other one climbed up the bed crawling towards me. “What are you doing?” He asked with a frown and I started sputtering nonsense. “I...I..was sleeping...I..”“You were sleeping? Have you even seen the kids or bothered to check up on them before going to bed?” He glowered and I gulped cursing myself under my breath. How did I not think about that? “I should just get rid of you before you become a problem to me” He corked the gun and I flinched patting the baby as her cries got lo
CHAPTER FOUR Sofia's Pov I'm so screwed. That was the only thing I could think of as I went to bed that night and I woke up the next morning when I heard a piercing cry of a baby, when did we get a baby? Oh my goodness, I sprang up from the bed and carried her from her crib that had been transferred to my room, I quickly fetched her feeding bottle from the food warmer and started feeding her. She slurped on the bottle and I was relieved that she had calmed down, but I hoped all that noise didn't wake up her father. It was past five in the morning and I'm used to waking up early but not this early, I yawned exhausted, and smiled at the cute brown hair angel in my arms. Her bright brown eyes shone brighter as she grabbed my hair still sucking on her feeding bottle, I giggled and released the strands she captured in her tight grasp. I have always wondered how babies can manage to do that despite being small and fragile, "I guess you aren't as cute as you look, you are a to
Chapter 5 Sofia's POV I spent the rest of the day lost in thought, trying to imagine what tonight's event would look like. The thought of attending a mafia gathering, where the most notorious figures would converge, sent shivers down my spine. My first encounter with the mafia still haunted me - the memory of blood splattering everywhere, the sound of gunfire echoing through the chapel, and the lifeless body crumpling to the ground. It was a gruesome reminder of the world Mark inhabited, and now, I was being pulled into its depths. "What if someone gets killed again?" I thought, my heart pounding in fear and uncertainty. The feeling was suffocating. I had no idea what to expect, and no concept of the rules or etiquette within this criminal underworld. Mark's reassurance offered little comfort. His words, laced with a subtle warning, only intensified my anxiety. "Behave appropriately, or you'll suffer the consequences." I do not even know what he meant by that but the words echoe
SOFIA'S POV I glanced over my shoulder and found out his rival was watching us, rather than watching me and I sighed hoping I didn't just gain an enemy, but an enemy to my husband is also my enemy, right? Mark led me away, his grip firm but gentle, and guided me to a secluded seating area. Without a word, he deposited me onto a couch, his eyes scanning the room before returning to me. "I'll be back," he murmured, his voice low and reassuring. As Mark disappeared into the sea of guests, I couldn't shake off the lingering unease. My mind began to wander, replaying the encounter with his rival. Had I overstepped by defending Mark? Should I have remained neutral? The questions swirled, fueling my anxiety. Mark's enigmatic nature made it impossible to gauge his reaction. Would he approve of my defense, or would he see it as an unwarranted interference? I glanced around the lively room, the laughter and chatter of the guests contrasting with my inner turmoil. The party was winding dow
CHAPTER 7 MARK'S POV I signaled my team to halt before Victor Russo's warehouse. Darkness enveloped us, broken only by faint moonlight. Damien, Kali, Vinnie, Marco, and Natasha's faces were etched with determination, their eyes locked on our target. "Locked doors," Marco whispered as he examined the entrance. He thought he could say all that to my wife and get away with it, I could tell she was scared of him which made me livid. I nodded to Marco. "Take care of it." Marco approached the door, inspecting the lock. Suddenly, he froze, then gazed upward. "Cameras," Marco whispered urgently. "We're probably being watched." We followed his gaze. Multiple cameras focused on us. "Or maybe not," I added as far as I was concerned this place was almost empty, there were no guards stationed anywhere Victor is losing his touch. Kali quickly assessed the situation. "We need to disable them," she whispered. I signaled to Vinnie and he quickly got into action. He swiftly dispatched the
CHAPTER 8 SOFIA'S POV As soon as I got home I went to my room to freshen up and tend to the bruises on my body, after changing into my night wear I wore a silk robe to cover the red marks on my arm. Hopefully, they will be gone soon and the swelling will stop by tomorrow. As soon as I got downstairs the maids confirmed that the kids' dinners were ready, I remembered that they had been sleeping for hours. I decided to go to their room and check up on them. As I gently pushed open the door, a warm smile spread across my face. Joey, the six-month-old, slept peacefully, her tiny chest rising and falling. Louis, two years old, sat up, rubbing sleepy eyes. Our gazes met, and he smiled. "Louis, sweetie, Are you fully up? Time to wake up!" I exclaimed, pivoting towards Joey's crib. Luis yawned, opposing. "No, no, no! Sleep!" He whined in a cute manner. I chuckled, empathizing. "I know, baby, but we must get ready. You need to eat." "Daddy will be back soon so we need to get ready," I
SOFIA'S POV As I awoke, I could feel the warmth seeping into my soul. The soft morning light filtered through my room's wispy curtains, illuminating my serene space. I stretched gently and savoured peaceful silence. Rising slowly, I slipped on my fluffy slippers, creaked my room door open, and then stepped quietly drifting towards the children's room. I had to be as gentle as possible because the kids might still be asleep. As I pushed the door open, My heart swelled. Joey's radiant smile greeted me. Joey blabbered some words and extended her tiny arms towards me. My exhaustion immediately melted, replaced by joy. I enveloped Joey in a gentle hug, inhaling her sweet baby scent. "Good morning, sweetie," I whispered as I lifted Joey, cradling her close. As I cradled Joey, her warm breath danced across my skin. We remained like that for a few minutes before I stood up and glided toward the bathroom. I gently undressed Joey and gave her a warm bath. This soothed her morning fussine
CHAPTER 10 MARK'S POV As I stepped into my office, the soft glow of fluorescent lights enveloped me. Damien, my right-hand man, followed closely holding my briefcase. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee wafted through the air. My front desk staff greeted me, bowing respectfully. "Good morning, sir." I waved my hands in reply as I took a seat. I just revamped my office and the new sleek, modern decor reflected my precision: polished marble floors, minimalist artwork, and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the city skyline. Damian and I exchanged nods and he dropped my briefcase on my table. My project manager, Alex, soon walked in, and we got to work immediately. "Morning briefing?" I inquired. "Ready, sir," he replied, opening his tablet. As I scrolled through Alex's briefing, pride swelled within me. My business was thriving, and despite my being a Mafia, I still had other things to fall back on. I was making mind-blowing profits, ensuring a secure legacy for Luis and Joey.
Chapter 26 Sofia's Pov I can't believe we were being followed and now Mark is looking for Damon, this isn't good I need to fix it and leave my friend out of this mess. I headed for the kid's room and found out they were already asleep, both were in their beds all curled up and sound asleep. That put my mind at ease and I picked up Lois toys that were lying around and kept them inside one of the shelves, I left for my room after that to freshen up. While taking off my clothes I thought about how to turn this whole situation around, without involving Damon and if he is now being targeted by Mark that means he is in danger. He didn't do anything wrong and he was only trying to cheer me up after he saw me crying, since when did I become such a paparazzi magnet I'm not even that famous. I put on a bathrobe and pick up my phone to check the comments about me, maybe I will find something useful there to use it my advantage. My hand tightens on the phone as I read each comment
Chapter 25 Mark's Pov I wanted to come home early for a change when Damian rushed to my office, I was surprised at first because I gave him strict orders to follow my wife today. "Boss you need to see this" He panted stretching his phone towards me and I took the phone from him puzzled by his behavior, then my eyes caught the pictures on the screen. My wife was sitting with a man in a cafe, this must be the friend she talked about but unfortunately, his face wasn't visible. She was stupid enough to go to such an open place, "There is more" Damian interjected and I slid on the next, he was holding her hand at such close proximity. I clenched my fist and my grip on the phone tightened, "Where did you get this?" I asked and he hesitated before replying. "The Internet is trending at the moment" I sighed and loosened my tie so I could breathe properly, how could she be so stupid to go to that cafe it's like a spot for many reporters, this seemed like some sort of trap and s
CHAPTER 24 AUTHOR'S POV Mark's anxiety escalated as the driver expertly navigated the evening traffic, racing toward St. Michael's Hospital. He clutched his phone, Sofia's panicked voice still echoing in his mind. "St. Michael's, right?" Mark confirmed with the driver, double-checking the destination. "Yes, sir," the driver replied, his eyes meeting Mark's in the rearview mirror. "We're almost there." As they pulled up to the hospital entrance, Mark's impatience grew. He burst out of the car, slamming the door behind him. The automatic doors of the emergency room swooshed open, and Mark rushed inside. His eyes scanned the crowded waiting area, frantically searching for Sofia. He spotted a nurse station and hastened toward it. "Excuse me," Mark said, his voice urgent. "I'm looking for a woman. She's with my daughter, Joey Carvajal. They were brought in –" The nurse's sympathetic expression calmed Mark slightly. "Can you describe her to me, sir?" Mark rattled off Sofia's feature
CHAPTER 23 MARK'S POV I shook my head, dismissing the idea. "No, Damien. I don't think Sofia would be a good fit." Damien's expression turned quizzical. "Why not, Boss? She's qualified, and—" "I said no, Damien." My tone was firm, cutting off further discussion. The truth was, I couldn't shake off the feeling that Damian's suggestion was motivated by ulterior reasons. Their lunch together still lingered in my mind. Was Damien using this job offer as an excuse to spend more time with Sofia? The thought sent a pang of unease through me. I knew I had something to protect but was it my ego or my relationship with Sofia? Damien is good-looking and his charm and charisma made him a magnet for attention, and I couldn't help but wonder if Sofia was immune to it. "Find someone else, Damien," I said, my voice firm. "Sofia is not the right person for this role." Damian's eyes narrowed slightly, but he nodded. "Understood, Boss." As the day wore on, my mind wandered back to the conversa
CHAPTER 22 MARK'S POV As Sofia recounted her lunch experience with Damien and the driver, my unease grew. A knot formed in my stomach, tightening like a vice. My face must have betrayed me because Sofia's expression changed from carefree to concerned. Why was I angry? I couldn't explain it. Logically, there was nothing wrong with Sofia having lunch with colleagues. But logic didn't apply here. A possessive instinct stirred within me, refusing to be silenced. I felt a surge of discomfort like my emotions were betraying me. Why did the thought of Sofia laughing with another man, sharing stories, make my skin crawl? Was it jealousy? Ownership? "What do you mean by saying I'm your property?" Sophia asked, snapping me out of my thoughts. I evaded Sophia's piercing gaze, focusing on my plate instead. The question hung in the air, heavy with expectation. "What do you mean when you say I'm your property?" I couldn't meet her eyes, unsure of how to articulate the complex emotions swirlin
CHAPTER 21 SOFIA'S POV Mark's eyes widened as Luis babbled excitedly, He frantically tried to signal to Louis to stop talking, hoping the baby wouldn't reveal more. But Luis, oblivious to Mark's distress, continued to chatter, waving his chubby little hands. Mark tried pulling Louis away from me to stop him from spilling but he was too caught up in his own excitement, he clung to my legs struggling with his father while refusing to let me go. Mark's face turned bright red as he mouthed "stop" and "shush" to Louis, who simply giggled and repeated, "Daddy watched you on TV." I grinned mischievously, savouring the moment, then turned to Mark, whose face turned red as he shifted uncomfortably. I teased, "Come on, don't be shy. Admit it, I did great on the interview." Mark's eyes darted around the room, avoiding mine. "I just started watching it," he muttered. I chuckled, "Oh, don't bother denying it. Your secret's out" I winked at him. "It's okay to compliment me, you know. I won't l
CHAPTER 20 MARK'S POV I pulled out of the warehouse parking lot, feeling a mix of exhaustion and relief. The issues were finally under control, and I could focus on other things for now. Like tackling the bad press about my family and me. Instead of heading back to the office, I decided to go straight home. The day had been long enough already, and I needed some time to myself. As I drove, my mind drifted to Sofia's press conference. I hope it has gone smoothly and she is handling the pressure just okay. I quickened my pace, eager to see her and hear all about it. Pulling into our driveway, I noticed Sofia's car wasn't there. Why isn't she back yet? As I walked into the living room, the kids' excited chatter and laughter greeted me. I smiled, grateful for the warm welcome. After a long morning sorting out issues at the warehouse, coming home to my kids was just what I needed. "Daddy's home!" Luis squealed, racing into my arms. I scooped him up, twirling him around while Joey c
CHAPTER 19 SOFIA'S POV As I stood in front of the mirror, I adjusted the fitted blazer, smoothing out any wrinkles. The tailored pants hugged my curves perfectly, exuding confidence and poise. My heels, a matching neutral shade, added a touch of sophistication to the overall look. I had aimed for a "boss lady" vibe, and I was convinced I had nailed it. I glanced at my watch, It was 9:45 AM. The driver should be arriving any minute now. Mark had instructed him to pick me up on time, to ensure we arrived at the briefing with plenty of time to spare. As I waited, I took a few deep breaths, mentally preparing myself for the charade ahead. I rehearsed my lines, visualized the smile I would wear, and steeled myself for the cameras and questions. A knock at the door broke the silence. "Ma'am, your car is ready," Maria the maid announced. I grabbed my clutch and took one last look in the mirror. The woman staring back at me was unrecognizable – polished, poised, and ready to face the wor
CHAPTER 18 SOFIA'S POV I woke up to a beautiful, bright, sunny morning, feeling refreshed and ready to tackle the day. After a gentle stretch, I got out of bed and began my daily routine. First things first, bath time for the kids! I spent some quality time getting them cleaned up and dressed for the day. They chattered excitedly as we made our way downstairs to have breakfast. As we settled in for breakfast, the kids climbed into their chairs, eager for their morning meal. As I poured cereal into the Luis' bowl, Mark's sudden entrance caught my attention. His expression was tense, and his eyes seemed to hold a mix of urgency and frustration. "Hey," Mark greeted, his voice low and serious. "Good morning," I greeted, faking a smile. Mark ignored my greeting and hesitated before finally speaking. "There's a press briefing scheduled for today, and I need you to represent me." My spoon hovered over the cereal box, "Me? Why?" My mind raced with confusion and alarm as Mark's words
