“That’s right,” Evelyn took a deep breath before she took his hand, a tingle shot through her body at the touch like lightning and made her shiver, “please, can you help me?”
The man curved his lips, his deep blue eyes nailed into hers.
“I don’t see how I can not,” His husky voice lured Evelyn’s mind away from all the fear and horror, “miss-?”
“Evelyn,” Evelyn blurted quickly, “You can call me Evelyn.”
“Evelyn,” The man took her offer with a polite smile, and hearing her own name roll off his tongue with that deep voice gave her an unexpected blush, “please give me a minute.”
Evelyn nodded, still lost in his gaze that she forgot to let go of his hand.
The man let out a little chuckle but he didn’t let go of her hand, instead, he turned around and snapped his finger at the hallway, and a few men charged into the room at his summon.
“Get to the bottom of this.” The man tilted his head at the table, his voice suddenly all cold and sharp, “I want to know where the drugs came from and who dared to allow them in.”
“Yes, boss!” The men answered before spreading out for their mission, and the drug users in the room all squeaked and knelt down with their hands over their heads.
‘Boss? Why is everyone here a “boss”?’
Evelyn sneaked a peek at the man blocking her with his own body curiously before she took a surprised gasp—
Was he also part of the mafia?!
The man turned around at her gasp, and only then did Evelyn realize she was still holding on to his hand.
She snapped her fingers back as if she took an electric shock, her eyes quickly darted to the ground.
“Come with me.” The man made a “please” gesture at the door but Evelyn didn’t dare move.
“Where are you taking me?” Evelyn murmured with all the courage she could master. The little crush she had on her savior was now gone because she realized he was also a mafia.
The man curved his lips, amused: “I thought you wanted to see Damian?”
Right. She just claimed she was THE boss’s woman.
“That…is right.” Evelyn sighed, having no luck finding any excuse to get out of this. She had to see Damian or Titus would be a nightmare over her head forever, “You can take me to him?”
“I believe I can.” The man smiled and led her away from the room, and Evelyn was sure she heard some terrifying sounds from the drug addicts when the door closed behind her.
Following behind the polite man, Evelyn got to the deep core of the nightclub, and just about when she was getting lost again they stopped in front of a fancy door. Evelyn turned to look at him, and he just tilted his head at the door, still with that amused look.
Evelyn took a deep breath and pushed the door open, and the dark-haired man she saw in the basement was standing in the middle of the room, apparently surprised at her entering.
“Look what I found in room 302.” The polite man closed the door behind them, “Who’s in charge of that room? They were doing drugs in there.”
The dark-haired man frowned, his cold eyes fell on Evelyn with apparent anger in them.
“No! I didn’t do that! I was there by mistake!” Evelyn shook her hands quickly, cursing the polite man in her mind over and over.
It was obvious by now the boss didn’t like drugs! Was he trying to get her into trouble?!
“Who is she?” The dark-haired man asked, ignoring her totally as he turned to look at the polite man.
“Well,” The polite man let out a short laugh, “she claimed to be Damian’s woman and said she went there looking for him. Don’t you recognize her, BOSS?”
He stressed on the last word as if he was trying to hold back a laugh. The dark-haired man frowned before his eyes fell on Evelyn as if he saw her for the first time.
“You were looking for me?” He rose an eyebrow as he approached her slowly before he towered in front of her, “I don’t remember claiming you mine, miss.”
“I’m sorry!” Evelyn blurted in panic, “I said that to get out of that room, I’m really sorry! But I do need to see you. Your men abducted me here and they didn’t want you to know! I was in the basement when you were there! I need your help to stop the man Titus from doing this again! I—”
She suddenly shut up when the polite man wheeled on her words with such a cold look in his eyes. The dark-haired man also shot a glance at his look, but then he cleared his throat and got Evelyn’s attention back at him.
“Who are you, miss?”
“Evelyn, Evelyn Johnson.” Evelyn answered, “I know they kept this from you because you are not like them. Could you help me, Damian?”
“It’s ‘sir’ to you.” The dark-haired man answered coldly with a frown, “Do you dare confront Titus on this?”
“Yes, sir! Yes, I do!” Evelyn nodded quickly, “They bullied my aunt and uncle before trashing our house and abducted me for no good reason! I know all their faces!”
The dark-haired man shot another glance at the polite man before he went to the door and summoned a guard over: “Go get Titus, and I want to know everything about her. The name is Evelyn Johnson.”
The room fell in silence. Evelyn didn’t dare looking at the cold, mean mafia boss, she landed her eyes on the polite man who brought her here.
He was in a white shirt with his suit jacket grabbed in his hand, his shirt only buttoned after the third, making her eyes linger on the fine line of his collarbone—
“Like what you see?” The man laughed, leaning casually on the edge of the table with a drink in his hand. He had that amused look on his face ever since she met him as if everything looked funny to him.
“Uhh, thanks for all your help,” Evelyn cleared her throat, blushing for the dirty thoughts she had about him, AND for getting caught checking him out, “You really saved me today.”
“I do hope to amend some damage of the name Damian caused by Titus.” The man nodded with a sincere tone.
Before Evelyn could say anything else, a knock on the door scared her, making her jolt up.
“Come in.” Damian answered and Titus hurried in. His face turned white in panic when he saw Evelyn, but she wasn’t the one who scared him the most because he instantly knelt on the ground with his begging eyes pasted on the polite man—
“Boss!”
"Boss." Titus, who had just been arrogant to Evelyn in the basement, looked so pale now. His eyes were full of prayer and Evelyn realized she was right. These little bastards are afraid of Damian. No women, no kids, that was Damian’s code. "Do you know the girl?" The dark-haired man asked him in a cold tone. Titus turned his attention from the polite man to the black-haired man when he heard the question. When he glanced at Evelyn, his eyes became fierce suddenly and then he pretended as if nothing had happened when he looked back at the dark-haired man. Evelyn, however, did not miss that even though it was only for a split second. So did the polite man. He narrowed his eyes and returned to his true nature soon when he saw the change in Titus’ expression. "I- I don't know her." Titus said in a trembling tone. "Liar!" Evelyn was so angry, why was he so sophistry? "If you think you can be ok by pretending not to know me, you are totally wrong." Evelyn looked like an enrage
Damian’s smile alerted Evelyn. She shrank back and narrowed her eyes at Damian. And the kitten-like action teased Damian once again. "You insist that your cousin doesn't owe me any money, right? So what if I prove that he really owes it?" Damian cocked his eyebrows and asked. He is a notorious, ruthless mafia. She is so stupid to bet with this kind of person who wins and will not admit it! "I'm a good girl, so I'm going to stay away from gambling." Evelyn rolled her eyes, rejecting his proposal outright."I think you know you are wrong, and that’s why you don’t dare to..." Damian looked at Evelyn, his eyes were full of mockery."I am not that kind of person!" Evelyn snorted, "I just worry you won't keep to your promise if you lose! I am a reasonable person, and I stick to logic.""Reasonable? That works, too." Damian sat up straight, his hands on the table with a serious negotiation look, "So it is natural to pay off debts, right?" "Of course," Evelyn nodded, smiling unblinkingl
Damian squinted his eyes at Evelyn’s uncle in silent warning. He didn’t like seeing the little kitten upset. It was evident that she was just learning of her family’s true nature at the moment. The tears in her eyes irked him. Evelyn clenched her hand into a tight fist. She couldn’t believe what was happening. Was her uncle about to say they used her money and didn’t inform her for no reason? ‘I thought they were sincere, yet they only cared about my parent’s money.’ “There’s no money so how will we pay for the debt?” She asked as she looked at her relatives. Her heart was aching from their betrayal but she couldn’t forget the fact that they were still in the mafia’s territory and they still had to pay back his money. Seeing that they didn’t answer, Evelyn sighed in disappointment. They caused the problem but yet they offered no solution. “I put up the house as collateral. You can get the title deeds while we look for money to pay back the debt.” She said, now turning to f
When Jack heard Damian’s words, his lips twitched. ‘Since when does Damian keep women as his pets? He just sleeps with them but never keeps them around him.’ He studied Damian’s unreadable face and saw a glint in his eyes. After a thought, he looked at the small woman who was trembling and glaring at Damian in anger. Jack realized Damian was having fun riling the girl up. Evelyn’s hope was ignited when Damian suggested voting. There’s no way her family would sell her off. Even if they used her money, they still cared about her. But her heart dropped the next second. Her aunt, uncle and Mark both raised their hands, making her stomach twist painfully. Was she about to be sold out by her own family? It wasn’t going to surprise her anymore. They had proved to be capable of anything. To be honest, she thought they would fight to protect her. Feeling betrayed, a sharp pang of pain rippled through her chest. She wanted to resist and say she wasn’t obligated to do this, but she re
The moment Evelyn walked up on stage, she regretted it. All the courage she had felt back in Damian’s office had disappeared and she was now struck with the reality that she was only in her bra and pants while several leering gazes raked her body. She felt exposed so she wrapped her arms around herself. “Come on! What are you doing? Show us what you can do!” “Yes baby! Don’t be shy!” A crowd began to gather down the stage and cheered her on. After panicking for a moment, she took a deep breath and suddenly decided to give it a try. She would make some money from Damian if she continued. ‘That’s right… it’s just dancing. I’m not doing it for free anyway.’ Evelyn convinced herself and began to dance on the stage. The onlookers were in awe looking at the beauty dancing on the stage. They could tell from her unskilled movements that she was a novice in this area. But it made her look more alluring. She had the perfect body with the right amount of curves. Damian suddenly
The next day, Evelyn awoke to the sound of birds chirping outside. Sun rays illuminated the room through the drawn-back curtains, hitting her face. She scrunched up her nose at the discomfort to her eyes. Recalling where she was, Evelyn jolted up in shock when she realized she had fallen asleep at some point. She glanced down and breathed out in relief when she found herself dressed. ‘At least he had the decency not to touch me without my permission.’ Turning to Damian’s side of the bed, she found it empty and figured he had left earlier. Her face flushed a deep crimson when she remembered what happened last night. Damian had ordered her to strip. She was right. He was dangerous and if she stayed here for long, she would end up losing her most precious thing to him. And she didn’t want that. Even though Damian was handsome and hot, she didn’t love him. Evelyn made up her mind to work harder to earn money and pay him back so that she could leave this dangerous place. She
The hours passed by fleetingly as Evelyn continued learning how to bartend. She frowned, seeing that Damian had been sitting in the hall the whole time. Didn’t he have some crimes to commit or something? She wondered. Anyway, she brushed those thoughts away. Placing her cocktail on a small tray, she happily walked over to Damian’s side, feeling proud of herself. “I’m done! The first wine made by me!” She said excitedly, grabbing a short table nearby and placing it next to Damian. All the while, Jack was observing them silently, sitting on a different couch, a few steps away from Damian. Looking at the wine, Damian resisted the urge to wrinkle his nose. It didn’t look good at all and he was reluctant to drink it, lest he gets poisoned. However, seeing Evelyn’s expectant expression, he grabbed the glass and drank it in one gulp, trying not to gag. It tasted as horrible as it looked. “The wine is difficult to drink.” he suddenly said and just as Evelyn’s smile was about to dr
“I’ll take it that you’re satisfied, sir. Can you pay me the ten thousand dollars now?” Evelyn requested, trying her best to hide her discontentment. She had felt insulted by Damian’s remark after she kissed him but she brushed it aside, not letting it affect her. After all, she only did what she had to do to leave this place earlier. That kiss didn’t mean anything. “You’re not going to go back on your words, are you? Or maybe you’re just a liar.” She taunted when he didn't respond, trying to get back at him for humiliating her and calling her a pet. Of course, she knew she had signed an agreement to be his pet but it didn’t mean he had to rub it in her face each time he gets. ‘I have feelings too. How can he easily call me a pet and claim to be my master like we are in the dynasty era?’ Damian frowned, pulling at his tie to loosen it. After that small intimate moment, he had felt a little hot and the tips of his ears had flushed a crimson color. Looking at Evelyn’s forced smi
Several months later after Nina and Jack’s wedding, Damian held a party for Evelyn to celebrate their fifth anniversary. Unlike their wedding, this event was grand. Damian had decided to introduce his heir, Aiden Hill, the future Mafia boss of his empire. The Country was a much safer place with most of his enemies behind bars and the streets were clean of drugs. Not entirely though but now, he had many on his side fighting for a drug-free Country to protect their loved ones. Evelyn was dolled up in a silver off-the-shoulder gown that was fitted up to the knees then the rest of the gown was flared, touching the ground. The neckline had diamond details with a plunging slit in the middle, showing a little cleavage. Her curves were hugged perfectly by the dress, painting a picture of poise and grace. As for her strawberry blond hair, it was raised up into an elegant updo held together by diamond clips that sparkled when she moved. The simple makeup she put on her face accentuated h
Four years later. “I passed the bar!” Evelyn exclaimed the moment the call went through. “Wow. Congratulations kitten. You deserve it.” Damian’s equally elated voice echoed through the phone. Evelyn had completed her studies a while ago and had to sit for bar exams for her to become a lawyer. The following weeks had been difficult for her because she was worried about her results. It was not easy for one to pass the bar. Evelyn made sure she studied hard and with the help of her husband, she was able to understand most of the cases. Although the exam hit her hard as it was harder than expected. This was why seeing her name on the list of those who made it made her feel emotional. She never thought she would pass the bar on the first try. When she thought about how far she had come, tears couldn’t help but sting her eyes. “I’m so happy Damian. I can’t believe it. It’s a dream come true.” “You worked hard my love. You just got what you worked for. I am happy for you. We shou
Evelyn’s mind was filled with curiosity as Damian carried her out of the plane bridal style. With her eyes closed, she could only rely on what her ears could pick up to try and guess her surroundings. They entered a car and it drove for about an hour or so. Damian carried her once more and she could tell they were now on a boat. The scent of the ocean coupled with the soft breeze that brushed against her skin gave her a refreshing feeling. She wasn’t scared of not being able to see where she was going because Damian was by her side. When the boat came to a stop, she felt Damian carry her again and they soon entered a warm enclosed space that she assumed was where they would be staying. “We are here my love. But, I’m not taking your blindfold off yet.” Damian whispered huskily. Evelyn felt how Damian began to undress her slowly. His hands brushed her skin ever so lightly leaving tingles in their wake and when he finally rolled her panties down her legs, she knew she was in for
When Evelyn and Damian got back together, Damian sent Sasha away to work in the territory he had just taken over. He did this to avoid problems and he didn’t want Evelyn to be uncomfortable. However, Sasha felt aggrieved. She genuinely loved Damian and hoped he would keep her as a plaything forever since she knew he never wanted to get married. He didn’t want any form of weakness in his life. But when he suddenly fell in love and decided to get married, she knew that she was wrong. It was not that Damian didn’t want to fall in love. He just couldn't love her. Jealousy bloomed in her heart when she heard Evelyn was pregnant and then later heard about the wedding while she was doing some work in Zach’s former territory. She was angry that she was cast away like she was nothing. Her place was by Damian’s side but it was stolen by Evelyn. It was supposed to be her who held the lady boss title. The things she had done for Damian... There was no way she would accept walking away em
“Congratulations Eve. You got us all worried.” Nina said to Evelyn. She was seated by her bedside while Damian was holding the baby and Jack was making peek-a-boo faces at him. Evelyn smiled weakly. “I was scared too. There I was waiting to meet my baby and then I suddenly lost consciousness.” Nina held her hand. “I’m glad you’re ok now. You should have seen Damian. He almost lost it. The man really loves you and I can tell he will make you happy. If anyone deserves happiness, it’s you.” She was referring to how Evelyn spent unpleasant years in the orphanage. She had been bullied and there was no one to protect her. When her uncle came for her, they pretended to care for her but when her cousin Mark harassed her, they turned a blind eye. “We both deserve happiness.” Evelyn remarked. The medication she had taken was making her drowsy so she found herself dozing off. Damian noticed this from a distance and approached her. “Sleep, my love. I’ll take care of Aiden.” He promis
Damian raised one of his eyebrows, wondering what Evelyn was on about. He placed her leg that he was massaging down on his lap and stared at her. “What is that supposed to mean?” He asked, bemused at her sudden question. What did she mean by what were his plans for the future? Hadn’t they discussed this already? “Just that. What are your plans?” Evelyn asked again. Her voice rose an octave higher. “Well, you do know my plans. I intend to expand my territory while you get busy with school and also to make this Country a safer place for our child.” Damian replied calmly. “So you don’t plan to marry me? How come I’m not in your plans?” Evelyn yelled, her eyes brimming. Damian was shocked, to say the least. “Where is this coming from? Who said I don’t plan to marry you?” He asked. The poor man didn't understand what was going on. “I asked what your plan was and you didn’t include me in them.” Evelyn responded, her voice shaking. Being in the third trimester, she was becoming
Months later. Nina was preparing for a date with her boyfriend Jack. Things were great for everyone in the past weeks. Evelyn and Damian were expecting so they spent most of their time away from the club and Jack took up most of the work for Damian. Today was one of the rare days that he was having a break so he asked Nina out on a date since they had not gone around much due to their lack of time. Nina was combing her red hair when her mother, Grace walked into her bedroom. “Mom, why don’t you like knocking? One day you will find I’ve sneaked a boy in here.” Nina complained while seated in front of the dressing mirror. “That’s exactly why I don’t knock. Besides, why should I knock in my own house?” Grace sauntered into the room and took the comb from her daughter’s hand and began to comb her hair which was similar to hers. “You know, when you brought that man Jack to meet us, your father wasn’t happy that you started dating so soon. I’m also afraid that I might lose you s
“Nothing you say can change anything. They are gone and you killed them.” Evelyn choked as tears stung her eyes. “And I…” A sob escaped her lips, closing her eyes. “I’m a sinner. I’ve let them down for allowing last night to happen.” Her soul was burning with guilt. She felt like she had no right to go to her parent’s grave because she didn’t stick to her promise. Damian who was seated by the edge of the bed softened his gaze and reached out his hand, stroking her hair. She didn’t dodge this time. Wouldn’t she be a hypocrite pretending like she didn’t want him to touch her? After all, she had let more than an innocent touch happen a few hours ago. “Eve, I didn’t kill your parents.” Damian’s deep gentle voice came. Evelyn thought he was just trying to make her feel better so she didn’t bother to look at him and just continued to beat herself up. “I didn’t even know who your parents are. It was only last night when you mentioned it in your sleep that I decided to investigate
Damian glanced down at Evelyn who lay in his arms, sleeping peacefully. He stroked her hair and kissed her forehead, his expression softening. The fire that had erupted between them during their hot session was still vivid in his mind. She still wanted him. Physically at least, she still had feelings for him. That was enough to give him hope. He could win her love back they just needed to talk and sort whatever problem they had out. Damian massaged his temples thinking women were really strange. It was hard to read them. Imagine someone just starts throwing tantrums without explaining their reason for it and expecting you to guess? He was willing to do anything for her as long she stayed with him. Now that he had calmed down and emptied his blue balls, he had a sound mind and could think properly. When he went through Evelyn’s medical files he saw that the pregnancy was eight weeks old. He remembered it was the period after they had Zach locked up in jail. They couldn’t keep
