That morning.

Alessandro sat beside me as I drove into town. I was tense, truth be told. I didn't know what the meeting with Frederick would hold, but I was quite hopeful.

“Do you think it still works when it's off?” He asked suddenly.

“I feel traces of it in my mind. Its almost as though the more I wear it, the more it's effects are.”

He was silent for a moment. “Miguel bench pressed 300.”

“Pounds?”

“Kilos.”

When I walked into the bar, I found Frederick seated at his usual spot. I took off my scarf and then my jacket. It had been a slightly colder season being so close to October.

Frederick raised his hands once he saw me and started waving them frantically, as was a common fashion with him. He hugged me when I reached his table, placing his head on my shoulders and laughing at the same time.

"Is there a problem, Fred? Are you okay?" I asked as I pushed him gently away from my chest.
