Frank had been beaten up rather badly. His eyebrow was split, and his lip was busted in multiple places, bleeding profusely. I was willing to bet he had a broken tooth or two in his mouth. His bloody grin cemented my opinion. I leaned down and began untying his binds.

I suddenly realized I could snap the ropes which gave out under the slightest pressure from me as though it were twigs. I snapped the ropes around his feet hands and the one binding him to the chair across his chest.

He didn't move until I lifted him under the arm and draped his arm across my shoulder. His feet dragged behind him, but it was clear he struggled to stay upright as his breathing was labored. I kept silent as I climbed the stairs, respecting Frank's condition.

Outside, the middle-aged woman stood between Miguel and Alessandro, neither of whom paid her any attention, but she was trembling in fear.
