I stare at the tip of the arrow gleaming under the lights. I know that I probably won’t die even if it’s silver and it pierces my chest, but I have to admit that I’m getting wary, especially when I see the familiar hint of crazy in Nero’s eyes.

I can’t say I missed that.

Still, I just raise my hands calmly. “This might just be me, but I feel like there are more steps that lead to attempted murder--”

Nero cuts off the rest of my words by firing an arrow from the crossbow. Instantly, a powerful surge of energy fills my body, and I hear Lycus roaring inside my head.

My skin starts to sprout fur. My nails grow long and sharp. I can feel my whole body expanding as Lycus tries to push himself forward, and it all just happened so suddenly that I know I have no power to stop it.

But Nero seems to be ready, because he sets the crossbow aside and takes a syringe full of purplish liquid from his pocket and stabs it on my growing neck.
