She perched on the edge of the bed while I stood before her, my back pressed to the wall. I couldn't bring myself to get any closer. Being apart felt safer as if I might explode if I got too close. Restlessness gnawed at me, and anger pulsed through my veins, but I had no target for it. Every inch of my being was seething with fury, and I didn't know where to aim it.
