When Skyler came in, Jim had even stared behind Skyler.

Yet Skyler came over and sat on a sofa with no one else behind him.

Jim's face changed. He strode over to Skyler and whispered, "Where is she?"

Skyler scowled and asked knowingly, "Who do you mean?"

Jim elbowed him. "Jocelyn, of course!"

Skyler's voice got even colder. "I don't care where she is."

Jim looked at him incredulously. "You told me this morning that you had told her about your birthday. She stood you up?"

Jim knew Skyler well. Skyler minded being stood up, so Jim was a little worried about Skyler and Jocelyn.

Yet Skyler gave him a cool look. "Who told you I was stood up?"

Jim frowned. "If not, what else could it be?"

Skyler's eyes darkened, and his expression was somewhat unreadable. "I just asked her if she was free today. I was going to bring her to the party, but she had arranged to have dinner with Abel today!"
