Chapter 29 – The Queen Meets Her Opponent

Once again, Mistress Nakti was disappointed to see Solene not dressed in a gown for the party. Instead of a gauzy material, she wore her platinum breastplate and pants, and instead of jewelries on her neck and hands, her helmet and gauntlet stayed in place.

In the very beginning, Solene didn’t want to go to the celebration. Wearing her armor was her way of rebelling against Caym, and she relished the look of frustration on the caretaker’s face too when she emerged from her room.

“You are a stubborn woman,” Mistress Nakti lashed before Solene could leave with the crow soldier. “I don’t wish you well on the second round. I wish you death.”

Solene just created an enemy inside Caym’s castle, but she didn’t care. She ignored the old woman’s spiteful words and diverted her attention to the darkly lit hallway.

Chapter 30 – The Queen Gains JusticeSneaking inside the seventh tower was easy. For some reason, there were no guards posted in every hallway entrance and in every room. Hope would have been prepared to encounter one or two during her search; this was the reason why she remained in this cursed gown after all—to seduce them and then incapacitate them—but there were no obstacles along her way.She wanted this, however. The better and quicker she could find Solene if there were no setbacks. Her wedge sandals brought her freely to different rooms: the first one was a gym, the second was an entire floor of training and sparring space, the third was the bath, and the fourth was the weapons’ room. She continued checking all the chambers in every floor, and with each opening of a door, Hope’s idea of the tower strengthened. The seventh tower, as it appears, was designed to be an arsenal and barracks. Chapter 31 – The Queen Clueless‘The second basement, in the dungeon of this tower,’ that was what Halpas said, and Hope was enraged to hear it.Out of all the places Solene was kept, it had to be a dungeon. She wasn’t a criminal. She wasn’t meant to be in that miserable place. She was the Queen of Sattus, and she should have been treated well more than the concubines in Caym’s tower! In haste, Hope jumped over a series of stairs, flew past hallways and stormed through doors until she reached the dungeons. She had a couple in her castle in Sattus, and she admitted, the rooms were as bleak and as dreary as the ones before her. Darkly lit with torches, humid, and full of equipment meant to torture—everything was a copy-cat.She encountered guards along the way—humanoid crows in their armors and spears—but she was skilled in hiding, using the shadows of the walls and beams t

Chapter 32 – The Queen Gains a ComradeHope returned to the eighth tower with ease and in the quickest time. She was certain now Solene was still there and with her there, she can act on her plan. The idea was to act like a concubine again serving drinks, seduce Solene in her armored form, and bring her to a secluded location in the guise of them fucking. No one would ever suspect that. Not even Caym, who was still clueless of their real identities. After fixing her mask, Hope strode to the open double doors with confidence in her chest. From where she was, she could see her beloved still sitting next to the bastard demon. And this time, true to the crow woman’s word, Solene took off her helmet. She wasn’t enjoying the party judging from the frown on her face, and like earlier, her eyes were busy searching...and it was clear to see now, she was actually searching for her.‘What twisted fate this is,’ H

Chapter 33 – The Queen Gains a DaggerIt was a party, but Solene couldn’t find any enjoyment in it. Zaraat had already declared her his next target. Hope was out there looking for her. She shouldn’t be sitting here and glaring at the guests. It was a waste of valuable time, but Caym was still beside her, and he expressly stated earlier he wanted her to stay until the end of the party. This meant evening. And this meant only a few hours before the second round starts. The other winners were still at the party too, so Solene couldn’t help but think, was this his way of testing them? If so, then she had better luck. She wasn’t drinking their wine too much. She was still of sane mind, while some of her humanoid counterparts were about to crawl on the floor.A soldier covered in metallic dark red armor approached the demon lord a few hours later. Solene wanted to know what they were discussing, but the soldier lowe

Chapter 34 – The Queen’s First OpponentA low, monotonous sound of one wind instrument stopped the noise of the audience. It reverberated all over the renovated arena, riding with the chill of the wind... Riding with the wind of death. There could never be a more fitting sound to herald the massacre they soon would witness, Solene thought. It mocked her ears, making her feel as if the tone was also playing her death.Once the sound stopped, it was followed by the same rhythmic thumping of drums she heard during the first round. The lower land in Solene’s front raised and leveled with her footing. It instantly created a pathway for her towards a megalithic wall entrance. With no doors to cover it, the opening boasted a chasm that flipped Solene’s stomach and threatened to spill her dinner.Another sound of trumpets filled the air, and the audience growled and cheered in unison. This was Solene’s cue. Thi

Chapter 35 – The St. Fair QueenAt the very end of the forest, Solene found a completely different landscape. It was still within the confines of the walls, but this time, instead of concrete and creeping vines, what surrounded her was metal. The walls were made of steel or iron. The rocks, logs and plants looked either encrusted with gold or were made of gold. Even the pathway wasn’t spared by its beauty—or to Solene its weirdness. She was in a maze filled with precious metals. What could actually go wrong? As she cautiously advanced, she noticed her reflection on every surface and at different angles. It was making the hairs on her skin stand on end. It was as if she was inside the house of mirrors, except there were no actual mirrors around her.She disliked being in this place. It made her feel vulnerable, unable to hide or to use the environment as a diversion just like what she did in the forest.Durin

That’s why Master Caym gives you such a special treatment! You’re a fucking celebrity here!”Solene didn’t understand what he was saying. She arched a brow just as her hands lowered to her chest with the yellow orb still pulsating, waiting to be released.“A celebrity?” she echoed.“You’re clueless?” the demon cocked his head to the side, amused with her situation. “Then let me fill you in, sweet. Chapter 37 – The Scythe-Wielding QueenWith a bird's-eye view now, Solene could properly examine the volcano's opening and it was oddly shaped. It was conical, yes, but it was sloping on one side to allow two elements to flow freely down the base: lava and water. It created a river system that Solene failed to see in her side of the arena. Subconsciously, she felt thankful she didn't need to traverse in this part of the volcano. She had her familiar now to take her directly to the volcano's mouth, and that's what exactly it did.Closer, she was able to determine a safe landing area. This solid land was surrounded by the water—a safer one than the lava boiling two football fields away—but judging from the strong smell the liquid emitted, it contained large quantities of sulfur. Something she'd have to be cautious about, but what else was new in Gehenna? The Oratongi lowered its heads, allowing Solene to disembark. Sh

Chapter 53 – EpilogueLike her first wedding, Solene strode into the aisle with numerous people watching. However, on this occasion, they were all souls. The majority of them were grounded, sitting on the pews, but there were others too levitating in the air. They were all dressed in white, beige, gray, and red uniforms, signifying their designations in Sattus. However, Solene saw them not as souls without a shell, but real people with real lives, living in this realm she had come to love.As she inched closer and closer to the altar, Solene stared ahead in wonder. During their three-day stay in the Fair Silver Estate, Henri mentioned something about a surprise. This surprise was the newly built garden in Castle Vatlavus, created only for her, or as he stated—technically a renovated garden since the first one was destroyed during Caym’s attack.Immediately, Solene saw this as the perfect place to hold her second wed

Chapter 52 – The Queen’s Support Indeed, the crack in Gehenna’s barrier was large, so large that it allowed many monsters and armies of demons out. Solene expected this from Henri, though. He was a powerful man, after all. There was no denying he could destroy this section of Sattus if he really wanted to, angry or not. Partly, she felt guilty that this happened, but what else was new? She had always been the reason for the misfortunes of many people who became collateral damage or the unsuspected victim. Case in point, Cassandra, Mrs. Ingrid, Tessa, Lady Ursula, the people at the coffee shop and at the supermarket, and AC, her innocent little brother. But to feel depressive about it wasn’t the solution now. She already rose and conquered this heavy burden in her heart, and she was so ready to end this once and for all. As she neared her destination, she spotted one soul near it, trying to fix the crack with his powers. When he moved

Chapter 51 – The King of SattusWhen Henri returned to Sattus, it only took seconds for him to know where Caym was—inside the castle, in Solene's room, where she hadn't even seen yet. He was trying to conceal his presence, but to no avail. It was pathetic. It was laughable. Nothing could escape Henri's notice, especially when inside the castle. But Kelios said he was in Tartarus, supervising his army. It totally contradicted the facts, so this meant Caym was using his power of manipulation. He was certainly manipulating someone into posing as him, or he had someone transform into his likeness, or he transformed this volunteer into his clone.Whichever was the case, Henri knew this was all a trap—a trap he was more than happy to play. He instructed Kelios to pose as him too and with Jacob's help, mid-teleporting into Tartarus, Kelios changed into Henri's face and build. Even the King's great scythe was cloned all jus

Chapter 50 – The Queen’s SurpriseA series of lightning crack above the castle spires and the formation of a storm cell in the sky heralded the return of the King of Sattus. Henri materialized on top of the tallest tower with his boot hitting the pointed roof. With brows twisted, he surveyed his castle below. It was still untouched, good, but half of its surroundings were already in bad shape. There were no villages or souls on it, but the trees and the landscaped garden he created for Solene to welcome her stay in Sattus was all in ruins. There were rubbles everywhere from the pillars he erected in the garden, and most of the bushes and flowering plants were on fire. This angered him so."Your Majesty." Kelios appeared behind him and stated.Henri remained his gaze on the garden, hands clenched, and said, "Kelios, speak.""We have driven back Caym's army in Nirvana, Krusk, Bettina and Argelu, Your Majesty.

You, however, should be worried. At this moment, your husband is under Caym’s mercy, bloody and groveling for his life.”This briefly shook Solene. She trusted Henri’s capabilities as king. He was a powerful man. Caym could never rival him, but then again...what if...what if this demon was telling the truth? What if Henri was indeed on the brink of death and she wasn’t there to save him?Should she go to him then? But AC... the boy needed h

This was the mastermind of her father's killing, and now, he has possessed her adoptive brother. Her sweet, innocent brother.Memories of that day when he killed her flooded inside her mind. It brought her stiff for a moment. Heaven knows how she just wanted to curl up into a ball in the corner of her room and protect herself from the traumatic experience, but no... No! She wasn't a prey anymore. She changed even better than before. She refused for him to win again, and most importantly, she refused to let her brother get harmed.Withdrawing from her mother's embrace, Solene flashed a fake smile and acted as if nothing was happening. Chapter 46 – The Queen CelebratedAs what Lady Ursula said, the Rantzen Family celebrates birthdays differently. When Solene entered the garden maze’s center plaza, she understood what the old woman meant. Not only was it held inside a maze, it was set up in a way that all the guests would circle the theta-shaped fountain. A circular symbol was drawn around it, which Solene hadn’t noticed the last time she visited this area of the estate. She couldn’t help but arch a brow. She wasn’t told how the party would flow. She was only informed by Henri to ‘prepare’ and nothing more. And by ‘prepare’ he meant to choose a dress out of the three he bought for her.Black and red. These colors were always what she favored, so when she spotted one that had these shades spread neatly on her mattress, she chose it. Patricia, her personal maid, helped her don it. As always, the gown had a slit design, re
