Luca's POV

I sat at the back of the black SUV is it drove through the dimly lit streets of the city. My mind replayed the events over the past few days over and over again. One thing was sure, and it was the fact that the Hills were targeting Astrid to get to me and if I don't deal with this immediately, it might be a drag.

Before all that, I had to have a words with Halo. He would know about this shit or else, he wouldn't have asked me to go get rid of the family. It was sure they had a much more deeper connection than it seems since not everyone could trace back to Astrid's family no matter how hard you try unless you're similar to me who took even months to find her.

If the Hills were making moves like this before, it was impossible for someone like Halo not to know about it.

The SUV pulled up in front of Halo's private club, and I stepped out, my usual and cold expression in place. The club was dark and gloomy on first glance but was filled with tons of VIP on getting in. A lo

Astrid's POV The ride to the graveyard was silent. I sat in the passenger's seat, staring down at my fingers as I twirled it gently and nervously. Luca was focused on the road, his grip on the steering wheel firm. I could feel the tension between us and I didn't know how to break it. A part of me didn't want to break it either. When I asked him to take me to my mother and sister's graves, I thought he was going to say I needed to stay indoors to be protected but he didn't argue and just told me as long as I got enough sleep and food. As we neared the graveyard, my heart pounded against my chest. It's been five days since their death was told to me and I haven't had the courage to ask Luca about it during the three days I was in for. It felt like their death was mainly my fault. If I hadn't brouvvvght them into the deal, maybe I would still have them alive. Just maybe. Luca slowed the car down as we neared the entrance to the graveyard. I thought cemeteries were usually eerie and c

Luca's POV I squatted before her, staring at her in silence and she didn't seem to acknowledge my presence at all, or she was deeply lost in her own world. I just couldn't take it anymore. I didn't know why it bothered me so much. Maybe the fact that she won't work effectively if she was this depressed or something else I couldn't define. “Astrid.” I called again, pulling the strands of hair covering her face away. “Should I make you something to eat?” She didn't reply and just stared into space. I was about to say another word when my phone buzzed. It was Vincent. “Speak.” “We just investigated some strange movements at the eastern border. The Ivano family seems to be the ones behind this.” Vincent informed me, making me clench my fists. What was their plan exactly? They haven't struck since we brought down the Marcello faction and now they were moving goods right in my territory without me knowing. What were they planning exactly? “Can I assign that to you, Vincent?” I as

Luca's POV Everything these days were just going in the most unexpected order. But, one thing I was very glad about was the fact that Astrid was back, although not fully, but she ate well from the reports I got and had enough sleep. That was all I needed to hear. Right now, I didn't know what was going on in her head. The reason she was working for me in the first place was so I could find her mother and sister. I did find them but they ended up dead. The decision was up to her to make but right now, I wasn't going to let her go no matter what. From the way I've been acting around her, I was very sure that I wasn't going to hav any peace, knowing she was no longer under my watch. There were a lot of people out there who wants her and they could do that by force. Not everyone would treat her the way I was and the fact that she was the only woman who had ever satisfied me, I wasn't going to let her go to another man. I haven't acted on her after the last time but it was just taking

Luca's POV The last thing I had expected from Astrid was for her to request that but it only made me glad. It's been a few days and I made sure I practiced with her and she was strangely a very fast learner and obviously had some experience with some martial arts but it never occurred to her to use them at all. If she wants to come into my world, she is going to be a very useful ally when the time comes and a formidable enemy to those on the other side. The car rolled through the dark streets at a high speed. The city blurred past as I stared out the window from the backseat. I was on my way to meet Halo Oscuro. The man had his head in the clouds and thought he could just send for me whenever he wanted. He forgot the only reason I was with them was so that I could get rid of the two families who seem to be a thorn in my side at the moment. Things were getting more and more complicated with the Marcello and Ivano family. I haven't started using my influence as someone associated w

Luca's POV The tension in the air was high as some of their heads were turned to me from Halo's comment. I didn't know how difficult the Hills were to them, but it seems me getting rid of them in just one night and driving their leader into hiding. “It took you a whole month to even put a dent on their business and he got rid of them in one night.” One of the two women at the table threw her head back in laughter, pointing at Javier who was livid. “It proves nothing.” Javier scowled, pointing in my direction. “You don't belong here Santoro. You can't come in here and start acting like royalty all of a sudden because you got rid of the Hills family in a night.” “And the Ivano family sees him as a threat. They seem to be seriously messing with him. That's the only reason he accepted my invitation into the organization in the first place.” Halo said calmly and the entire room went silent again. I didn't know how powerful the Ivano were in El Sombra, but I knew Ivano on its own was a

Luca's POV What Halo proposed rang in my head continuously. Astrid had just lost something because of this mafia world she was in and now she had to get even more involved with it? I wasn't sure what she would say if I told her about it but she might want to do it just for the sake of revenge against those who killed her mother and sister. I walked into the penthouse to see Astrid sitting in the living room with her chair. She was busy moving from side to side but he rback was turned to me so I didn't see what she was doing. When I heard the clicking of sweets, a small smile appeared on my lips and my legs took me to her without my consent. “You're back.” I asked her, looking down at her computer. She snapped her head back with a frown and she stared into my eyes. Was it me, or she looked even more beautiful now that she had recovered. “Ooh, it's you.” She mumbled with a small smile. “Yeah, I just think I should go through the piled up work Vincent sent in after practice. Astrid's POV I stared at him for a few seconds not getting what he was saying. Why would La Oscuridad invite me to work for them? It was obvious I never wanted to join an organization in the past since I refused all of them and wanted to work on my own. They are trying to use Luca as their contact. “Why should I join them?” I asked, leaning back in my seat as I looked out. “I just want to be involved in all this because I want to help you get rid of the Hills and those behind them.”“That's why you have to join,” he said, his voice calm and relaxed. “There's suspicion that the Hills have something to do with El Sombra. Getting rid of one of theirs for good will surely make them focus on you. And finding someone like me out there would prove difficult.”“You sound proud of yourself.” I snorted as I pushed the door open. “I'll think about it but first, why are we here?” Stepping out of the car, I look around the entire estate where my eyes could see into. FIGHTING THE INNER ME Gavin's POV “Daddy, did you want to hurt her?” Lyra asked as I patted her back slowly trying to put her back to sleep. I was at a loss for words and didn’t know what to say. But I had to say something else: she will keep being scared. “Errmmm, no baby, I didn’t want to, I was just, you know… angry.” She wanted to say something else and I didn’t want that because she could ask one question after another until morning. “Don’t say anything else dear, just close your eyes and go to bed so I’ll get you ice cream by morning,” I bribed. She stayed quiet shitting her eyes and allowing sleep engulf her. After ensuring Lyra was safe and sound in her bed, I walked towards my room and stumbled on Ciara who was still cowering in the corner of the staircase. I knew I had to get her out of there, not just for my sake but for Lyra's as well. I couldn't let my daughter see her like this, and I definitely couldn't let Ciara's presence upset me further. • MY MAFIA’S CODED HEART   The end

Luca’s POVIn the end, I learnt that what was meant to be will always be. Here’s me, happy with my kids and my sweetheart Astrid. If someone had told me a few years back that I’ll find a girl who had the code to my heart, I would have laughed at them and called them foolish. I just? Cos I was a hard nut to crack. I was just all about my business, conquering cities and being the boss, bloody fights etc. I had no eyes for love. But Astrid isn’t just a hacker of systems, she had the ability to even hack into hearts. She did so to mine.I stared at her, as she walked round the house trying to put one or two things in place and I couldn’t help but feel blessed. “Dang! I had it all!” I said to myself smiling sheepishly. I had my baby girl and the kids… I felt like I had the entire world under my feet. Like I could trample on anyone and everything just for my family.“What’s running through your mind? You’ve been lost in thought for a while, I noticed” she said softly with a smile.“Mum…

Luca's POVI raised my hand and slowed in my movement. "Let her go, Ace. That's not an option.A sharp, bitter laugh pierced the cold night. "Do you think I care what you do, do you think I care?”Astrid winced but said nothing. Her teeth clenched and I saw her fist clench. She was angry, but she was also scared. I couldn't blame her."You've lost, Ace," I said calmly. "Your people are gone. El Sombra's job is done for. Let Astrid go, and maybe, just maybe you can get out of here alive."Ace scoffed. "Don't insult me, Santoro. Do you think I'm afraid of you? You're the one who should beg for mercy. You have no choice."What do you think, Ace?" I asked, ignoring his sarcasm."Money? Power? You name the price, I'll make it happen. He grinned, his eyes glinted with malice. "What do I want? It's simple. I want you to leave, Luca."I frowned, my mind filled with thoughts. "What did you say?"Ace hugged Astrid tightly and leaned toward her."Kill yourself," he said in a low voice. "If you d

  • MY MAFIA’S CODED HEART   Chapter 112

Luca's POVAs I stepped out of the car with Halo beside me and the rest of my men behind me. My boots crunched onto the gravel path, past the blazing warehouse along the dark road. The air smelled strongly of diesel, and in a confused, oppressive way. I felt the weight of this decision on my shoulders, but I was too far gone to turn back. This meeting was not about reconciliation. It was about drawing a line. The door opened, and a dark figure emerged. One of the eldest members of the El Sombra group. That sharp, wild smile like a knife made my blood irate.Behind him, I saw Astrid. She stood motionless, close to Ace, with an unspeakable expression on her face."Luca Santoro, you've been here a long time." One of the El Sombra members stepped forward."I'm here. Let's get started," I said."That's a brave move, Luca," Ace said, his voice filled with the arrogance I hated."You made it to the gates of El Sombra with weapons. Or should I say you're just ... scared?I didn't answer, jus

  • MY MAFIA’S CODED HEART   Chapter 111

Astrid's POVThe moonlight shone, exposing the gloomy night. I prepared to leave, I knew this would be my only chance to get away from Ace and his watchful guards. He trusted me less with every passing day, and I had to make my move before he decided to tighten his grip completely.I hung the small bag over my shoulder, tucking the paper with Luca's address into the inner pocket of my jacket. The laptop I’d used to track him was safely hidden, wiped clean of any traceable activity.I exhaled quietly as I opened the window of my room. The estate's security lights shone towards the grounds below in slow, predictable arcs.I had studied the patterns of the securities countless times, preparing for this exact day.As the lights went out steadily, I came out, clinging to the ledge as I lowered myself beneath the first floor balcony. My feet barely made any sound as they touched the tiled grounds in the balcony. I pressed against a wall, my heart pounding in haste.I waited. Some guards wer

Astrid's POVThe silence in the car on our way to Ace's house was just choking. He didn't say a word, but I knew a storm was brewing inside him. He was upset, obviously and I knew it, from the way his jaws kept clenching and unclenching every few seconds.I should be the one getting upset, not him. Not after what he did at the meeting. The minute we entered inside, I was done holding in the anger that was brewing within me."You had no right to interrupt me at that meeting," I said, wheeling back to him.Ace raised an eyebrow at me in pretended innocence. "Interrupt you? You had nothing to contribute, Astrid. You've been off your game for weeks."I crossed my arms, glaring at him. "The question they asked was directed to me and you didn't even give me a chance to answer."He leaned against the wall, an air of nonchalance, though his gaze was keen. "Alright then. What would you have said?"I froze. So fast my lie formed in my mind, I couldn't even stop it."I'd have said no," I said fi

  • MY MAFIA’S CODED HEART   Chapter 109

Astrid's POVThe room felt like the walls were closing on me, it was suffocating. Ace and the El Sombra members were deep in their scheming, voices melding together into a hum of plans I couldn't force myself to care about.I sat at the edge of the long table, my mind elsewhere as they debated how to handle Luca's inevitable encounter with El Sombra."Astrid," one of them called, breaking through my haze. "You got any input?"I blinked, my eyes rising to meet the inquiring glances of the group. I used to love these moments; my sharp mind was always one step ahead of everybody else. But now? I couldn't muster the will even to play this game."No," I said briefly, coldly. "I have nothing to add.Ace's gaze lingered on me, an edge of suspicion alive in his eyes. I gave him a well-practiced look of indifference, refusing to let him see through the fissures forming in my resolve."Excuse me," I said, suddenly standing. "I need to use the restroom."Ace didn't respond, but I felt his gaze b

Luca's POVHelena sat across from Halo and me in a dim lit room, her arms crossed tightly, a flicker of something unreadable in her eyes. The atmosphere felt almost suffocating, a thick tension that wrapped around us like a heavy cloak. Nico and Vincent leaned against the wall in the corner of the dim room, his gaze fixed on her as if trying to decode the puzzle she presented. It was a standoff, and it wasn't lost on me that I had placed myself right in the middle of it."Start talking," I said, leaning forward in my chair, elbows resting on my knees. My voice was calm, though deep down I felt a storm brewing. I needed answers, and I wasn't in any mood for games.Helena squared her shoulders, and for a second, I saw something fragile behind the iron mask. Her face was impassive, but I saw her hands flinch just a little a tell, maybe."Ace killed my father," she said, her voice even and bitter. "My father was working for one of the El Sombra members, he was a low-level enforcer.” She p

Luca's POVWe were getting closer to my secret estate where my mother and sisters are hidden. My arm throbbed faintly, a reminder of how close I’d been to losing everything. As Nico drove with a characteristic focus, Halo perched in the back seat fidgety, his hand grazing the handle of his pistol, constantly.“We’re getting pretty close,” Nico finally spoke, breaking the silence.I nodded and looked out the window. I had not seen my family in weeks, had left them in Vincent’s care for weeks. The prospect of what I was going into sent a tight pain through my chest. The hidden estate was the same as I left it when we arrived surrounded by tall gates and cloaked in mystery. Nico had parked the car and I got out, boots crunching on the gravel. Halo was already patrolling the perimeter, his watchful shadow always near. The front door opened before I could knock, and there she was-my mother. Her eyes welled up then, and tears flowed down her face as she came to me."Luca," she whispered, h

  • MY MAFIA’S CODED HEART   chapter 106

Astrid's POVAs I entered the car, my heart kept pounding and I couldn't help but fidget. Maybe I shouldn't have told the driver to stop, it was my chance to escape from all this. And it could be the last chance I get to have. The silence between Ace and I was deafening and I knew if any of us began to talk, there would be an explosion of emotions, especially from my end.Ace began, “I see you've been busy, Astrid.” he said, his tone low and suspicious. He glared but I preferred to look elsewhere, at nothing in particular, rather than stare into those stern brown eyes.“I had some issues with proceeding with the mission last night.”I simply said because narrating everything that happened between Luca and I last night was something I couldn't do.It wouldn't only make me feel more guilty than I am already but it was surely not going to get Ace to be on my good side. Whatever he wanted to do to me, he could. I wasn't scared of him.“I know that, my men informed me about how you left the
