Christian left the house in the morning after the heated argument with his grandfather and did not come back. But Christian’s Grandfather, Leo, was still as calm as the sea, it was already late evening, and resting on his bed, Leo was talking to the picture of his deceased wife Rosella, he was telling her about the Indian girl, and why he chose her for their grandson when Dr Agnes came in the room with a bottle of wine and two glasses.
“Hey, oldie! Talking to Rosella?” Dr Agnes asked, giving a broad smile.
“Yeah, I was telling her about the girl I met in India,” Leo responded.
“Oh, that same girl you chose for Chris?” Agnes asked.
“Yes,” Leo replied with a broad grin.
“Well, I sincerely wish to know, what is so exceptional about this Indian girl that you like her so much?” Agnes enquired, sitting on the couch and pouring wine into the glasses.
Leo placed Rosella’s photo frame on the side table and sat next to Agnes on the couch to answer him. “Well, she is a beautiful girl. She knows how to handle relationships and keep the family together with love, and that’s precisely something my family is in dire need of learning.” Leo said, taking a long pause.
“She is an ideal girl for our Chris. She can give him a successful career and a loving family for which he craved in his childhood.” Leo further added, and Agnes nodded in response.
“You know, Agnes, I am afraid. I am really afraid for my family. The family which I and Rosella moulded with so much love and care is on the verge of breakdown today and I am incapable of doing anything about it.” Leo said and glanced at Rosella’s picture sadly.
“This girl is my last hope and I am sure she will reunite this family. She will do everything that I have failed to do. I wish to see this family together before I close my eyes. Agnes, it’s my last wish.” Leo said and took a sip of wine, removing tears from the corner of his eyes.
“I understand you, Leo. I know you are afraid about your family, but you know Chris. He is so smart. He must be looking out for a way to escape this trap.” Agnes said, and took a sip from his wine.
Leo chuckled. “Oh, I am sure that he must be looking for a way out, but believe me, he can never break out of this trap,” Leo said with a wide smile on his face. “And I completely trust Lia on this, that bloody silicone-filled barbie doll will definitely break up with him.” Leo made a disgusted face, and they both laughed.
“Well, I would enjoy watching Chris getting trapped. By the way, where did you meet this girl in India?” Agnes asked.
“Do you remember I went to India two months back for some business purpose?” Leo asked, and Agnes nodded.
“Well, someone told me about a place called Varanasi where people get peace and souls attain salvation after death. It is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world and is also considered the spiritual capital of India. So, I decided to visit Varanasi from Mumbai, and I can’t describe the serenity of that place. I realised that there was something magical, some kind of unseen, pure, and powerful energy. I absolutely enjoyed my stay there, and I met.....” Before Leo could complete his conversation, someone knocked on the half-open door and their attention shifted to the door.
“Dad, Can I come in?” Luke, Christian’s father, peeked inside.
“Leo, I think I should leave for now. You two need to talk to each other.” Agnes stood up to leave but turned to him. “I am really looking forward to meeting this girl.” He smiled and Leo nodded his head with a broad smile and then shifted his gaze to Luke.
“Sure, you can come in. I knew you would come to see me.” Leo chuckled, and Luke closed the door behind his back. “So how can I help you, son?” Leo asked, maintaining a poker face.
“Why are you forcing Chris to marry that girl?” Luke screeched, glaring at Leo, with his arms across his chest.
“Simple, I want her as my granddaughter-in-law and this dream can only be fulfilled through your son,” Leo stated clearly, and the corner of his mouth curved up.
“But Indian girl? Indians are so different from us. Why don’t you choose Lia or some other girl who belongs to our civilization? Why an Indian girl?” Luke questioned.
“Because..... never mind. Even if I try to explain, you will not understand. And what kind of father are you? Can’t you see Lia is not suitable for your son? She is a gold digger like your girlfriend, and she will ruin Christian’s life like your girlfriend ruined your marriage.” Leo almost shouted, stating the facts.
“Anyway, let’s leave this topic. I want that girl as my daughter-in-law and that’s final. Tell your son to prepare himself for this marriage. Now you can go, I would like to talk to your mother, and don’t forget to close the door while going out.” Leo said, and Luke walked out, slamming the door with a loud thud.
Leo picked up Rosella’s photo frame again and started talking to her. He was telling her about the other qualities of the girl that he liked, and why she was just perfect for this family when the door of his room burst open, and there stood Christian.
Leo stared up at him and covered his mouth in shock. “Oh my god, are you really in front of my eyes or am I hallucinating? I thought you would come back at least a month later when all your credit cards will stop working, but you are back in just ten hours. What happened to my son? Lea broke up with you when she found that you have left the CEO’s position?” Leo asked sarcastically.
“Yes, you were right about her. As soon as she came to know that I have left the battle of the CEO position, she dumped me.” Christian answered in an irritated tone.
He took a deep breath and continued, “So, here I am, ready to marry the girl you have chosen for me. But I want to know why her and not any other girl from our country?” Christian asked, glaring at Leo.
“Son, first, stop glaring at me like your father. Second, both you and I know that till date, all the girls you have dated were gold diggers, and this girl, whom I have chosen for you, is a gem and I want this gem in my family.” Leo said proudly, and Christian rolled his eyes at him.
“Okay, grandpa, I have already heard a lot of praises for her from your mouth. Now please don’t start again. I said I am ready to marry her.” Christian said.
“Trust me, you will not regret this decision,” Leo said with a wide smile.
“But she will definitely regret marrying me.” Christian thought. “What’s her name?” He asked, scratching his neck.
“Her name is Mishka,” Leo replied with an appreciative smile.
“Mi... Mi what?” Christian stutters.
“I know it’s a bit hard to pronounce. I, too, took some time to speak this name properly.” Leo smiled, “But you need to practise taking her name correctly because she hates when someone misspells her name.” Leo said and Christian nodded his head, but from inside, he was simmering in anger.
“Now that you are ready for this marriage. So let me tell you, Mishka is arriving here tomorrow.” Leo broke the news, and Christian’s eyeball bulged out of its socket.
“What?” He shrieked.
“Yeah, so now leave. Practice overnight to take her name properly.” Leo clapped his hand. “And let me tell you once again, it’s MI-SH-KA.” Leo clearly pronounced each word.
“Now please close the door while going out. I am exhausted and want to sleep.” Leo yawned, and Christian nodded his head.
“Bye Grandpa, goodnight,” Christian said.
“Good night, son. Now, Chop!! Chop!! Tomorrow is a big day for me.” Leo answered and Christian left his room, turning off the lights.
Till late last night, Christian continued struggling to pronounce Mishka’s name properly, but he still couldn’t pronounce it fluently. “Why are these Indian names so difficult? I will definitely name her Mia after the marriage. Fuck, I still can’t believe that I am being forced to marry an Indian girl whom I have not seen yet.” Christian thought. He strode to the dresser and stared at himself in the mirror. “You can do this, Chris. You can do this.” He kept chanting this in his mind again and again to calm himself, but he was still losing his patience. “How can I marry a girl whose name I am not even able to pronounce perfectly? God, please get me out of this trouble.” Christian was thinking of another way to get rid of this girl when his phone started ringing. “LOVE” CALLING “Good morning, babe. Did you have a good night sleep?” Lia asked, behaving as if this was some other normal day. “What is so good about this morning, Lia? Till late last night, I was practising to take that b
As soon as Mishka walked in through the main door, Leo rose from his chair and sauntered in her direction with a broad smile. “Mishka, my darling!!” He beamed with happiness. Mishka grinned, and as Leo came close to her, she bent down and touched his feet first (Indians take the blessing of their elders touching their feet) and hugged him. Leo embraced her with a surreal smile on his face and everyone was watching them as if a father and a daughter has reunited after a long time. “How are you, my child, and how was your flight? I hope you reached here comfortably.” Leo asked. “I am good, Dadu. The flight was great, but I am exhausted. I can barely keep my eyes open.” Mishka answered with a tired expression. “I know, sweetheart, let me introduce you to everyone here, then I'll take you to your room,” Leo said, holding her hand, and introduced her to everyone. “This is Luke, my son and Chris’s father, this is Jennifer, this is my daughter Berry and her husband Dan, Jake’s mom and d
It was around ten-thirty in the night, everyone checked into their rooms after dinner and Christian descended the stairs to grab his black coffee from the kitchen when he picked up a call from Lia. “What’s up?” Christian asked while sipping his coffee, sitting on the kitchen stool. “What are you doing? The entire day has passed, and I have not received a single text from you. Are you already busy with your soon-to-be wife?” Lia complained furiously. “Jealous?” Christian teased, raising an eyebrow. “Why would I be jealous of that Mishka? She is just a temporary arrangement. I am the permanent one.” Lia stated proudly. “Fuck, how did you take her name so well? I practised overnight, despite that, I still can not pronounce it so effortlessly.” Christian said, stunned. “Hahaha, anyway, I called you to inform you that the Contract Marriage papers are ready. I just got a text from your annoying lawyer friend, Danny. Now, you just have to persuade her to sign them.” Lia said anxiously,
Outside the W. S Mall, Christian handed over the car keys to the valet and followed Mishka inside the Mall, he saw her widening her eyes in excitement. “Oh my god. It’s so beautiful.” She exclaimed. “I am coming to such a big mall for the first time!! I’ve never been out of my city in India.” She started roaming in random directions praising the style of the mall and Christian was trailing behind her, but a few minutes later, he held her wrist to stop her and she turned to look at him, narrowing her eyes. “Now let’s do the work for which we are here. What do you think?” He asked, and she nodded her head in approval. “Sorry, I got a little excited. Let’s go.” Mishka apologised for her childish behaviour. “It’s okay, but we really need to rush,” Christian said, and held Mishka’s soft hand in his giant one, dragging her inside the vintage store. “I think we should buy this emerald coat for grandpa. What do you think?” Christian asked and looked at Mishka for her opinion, but she was
When they arrived home, Christian poked her in the arms to wake her up, but Mishka was in deep slumber. Christian heaved, stepping out of the chauffeur’s seat, and opened the door of the passenger seat. “It seems I have to pick you up,” Christian murmured and raised her up in his arms, striding inside the mansion. Opening the door of her room with his back, Christian carefully tucked her into the bed and was about to leave when he noticed a strand of her hair entangled in his wristwatch. He carefully tried to open the knot without interrupting her sleep, but Mishka woke up and was startled to find Christian close to her face. “Ow!! Ouch!” She struggled to sit on her bed in her panic state. “Just a second!” Christian pulled out her hair from his wristwatch. “How did I come to the room?” Mishka asked. “You fell asleep in the car. I tried hard to get you up, but you didn’t respond, so I had to pick you up and bring in you to your room.” Christian said and rose up
Mishka spent the day in her room, scrolling through her phone, and doing something she loves the most, but she was sorry about not being able to fulfil her Dadu’s wish and she couldn’t stop thinking about it. Suddenly, an idea popped into her mind and she stormed out of her room, sprinting to the kitchen. Asking for all the ingredients from the house helpers, Mishka made a sugar-free vanilla cake for Leo, precisely how he loves it with the icing of dry fruits. All the helpers were in awe, staring at the cake as she placed it inside the refrigerator and left for her room. It was six in the evening when her mobile buzzed in her pocket. She took the phone out and looked at Leo’s message while climbing the stairs. Dadu: I have called some stylists for you. They will show up shortly to prepare you for the party. Me: Dadu, there was no need for you to do so much for me. I would have prepared myself. It’s your birthday and you are pampering me. Dadu: I know you can prepare yourself, but
At the Farmhouse, “Leo, I think you should cut the cake. The guests are waiting.” Agnes said, handing over the glass of wine to Leo and Pasha. “Not until Mishka is here. Pasha, did you call them? Where are they?” Leo asked Pasha anxiously. “Yeah, I messaged Mishka, and she said they will be here in ten minutes. Don’t worry! She is with Chris.” Pasha answered. “And that’s exactly why I’m worried!” Leo murmured. “Let’s start the party if they are just ten minutes off. They must be reaching” Leo bottomed up wine, and they strode over to the centre table where the three-tier vanilla cake was waiting for Leo. Soon, all the guests gathered around the table, but Leo’s eyes were fixed on the entrance. *** Christian’s conversation with his friend opened up his other side to Mishka and now she doesn’t even want to see his face, let alone if he was the most handsome man she has ever seen. But her honour meant everything to her. The entire day, she was upset about turning down Leo’s wish, bu
Since Leo was busy accompanying some foreign delegates and Rose was attending her guest, Mishka was roaming around the party aimlessly when she spotted Lisa, the dress designer, who prepared her for the party. She was at the bar enjoying red wine when Mishka reached her. “Hey Lisa, what a surprise! I didn’t know you were invited to this party? We’d have come together!” Mishka smiled, standing next to her. “Hi Mish, I had some work, it’s finished early, so I came here to wish Sir Leo,” Lisa answered and Mishka nodded her head, ordering an orange juice for herself. “I am glad you came, and by the way, you are looking stunning tonight!” Mishka complimented. “Not more than you, Mish! You are looking breathtakingly gorgeous, and this gown, this is Madame Rosella’s last designed gown and the diamonds in the neckline are worth one million pounds, but sadly, it’s not for sale. Sir Leo reserved this dress for his grandson’s future bride. He wanted to gift this dress to the girl as Madame Ro

Christian took furious steps back inside the office premises and Ana tried to speak to him again, “Not now, Ana!” He said sternly, so done with all the drama, and rushed to the elevator. But something caught his eyes, and his heart skipped a beat. His steps halted as he swiftly turned to look at the pair of silver heels lying leisurely near the reception. He furrowed his brows and recognised it as he recalled Mishka wearing the same in the morning. “Where is Mishka?” He almost shouted, his voice echoed, and his eyes peered at Ana for an answer.“She was here but left…. After…” Ana stuttered.“What after?” Christian asked, fearing the worst. “Damn it, say!!”“She left when she spotted Lia with you in the conference room,” Ana revealed, and Christian’s face lost all colour, and for a split of seconds, he couldn’t process anything.“Why didn’t I know she was here?” He looked for an explanation.“She came to give you a surprise,” The receptionist said and Christian’s eyes darken. He took a
Mishka walked into the building of Knight Group, and the staff politely greeted her. She reached the reception, holding the file of good news close to her heart, and asked. “Where is Christian?” “Sir is at an important conference. Let me inform him,” The receptionist said, but Mishka stopped her. “No, it’s alright. I’ll wait for him in the cabin.” She said and turned to the elevator when she slightly tripped on her heels and a look of horror washed over her face. “Are you alright, ma’am?” The receptionist quickly came forward to help. “Yeah! I’m fine.” Mishka said and quickly removed her heels while the receptionist looked at her weirdly. She left her heels near the reception and walked barefoot towards the elevator. All the while, she was humming a song. The lift opened on the fiftieth floor, and Ana approached her. “Good Evening, Ma’am. Please, this way!” She escorted her to Christian’s cabin. “Would you like to have something? Sir will be free in half an hour,” Ana said. “No,
“What??” Luke screeched loudly. “Yes, she had a severe seizure this early morning, and it was hard to control her. We have given her an injection. She will sleep at least sleep for the next five hours. But this is weird and dangerous. Just yesterday, everything was fine. I don’t understand how everything took a sudden flip.” Dr Ken stated, rubbing his stubble while Luke was heartbroken on the other side. “Please tell me, she is going to be fine,” Luke choked on his words. “It’s not possible to predict anything right now. It appears that she is in major trauma. We don’t know how it’s going to affect her improvement.” Dr Ken said, and Luke could literally hear his heart pounding inside his chest. “Sadly, seizures slow the improvement process,” “What’s happening with us?” Luke wondered as he disconnected the call, and looked at Vera and his wedding picture, remembering the time they spent happily. “Don’t torture me more, Vera.” His thumb traced Vera’s picture as he mumbled helplessly
Jennifer rolled her eyes, “Come on, Lia!! Why do you think she didn’t recognise you?” She asked with a sinister smirk on her face while Lia stared at her blankly. “Because she actually doesn’t know about you and Christian.” The realisation hit Lia. “But why would Christian hide this?” She muttered, unable to think straight. “Because he is going to dump her in the next few days. I don’t see any other reason.” Jennifer said. “Right, maybe because she is mentally unstable. I accidentally bumped into her at Dr. James’s clinic.” Lia started connecting dots. “You’re absolutely correct. She is mentally unstable, plus their contract marriage is expiring soon. But what were you doing at the clinic?” Jennifer questioned. “I went to collect my mother’s reports,” Lia answered. “I thought to ask Dr. James about her but then dropped the idea as I was sure he won’t share her confidential information. He was updating me about my mother’s health when he got a call from someone and he said Mishka i
Weeks spent peacefully. Christian was overjoyed when he learned Mishka was editing Scarlet’s upcoming book. He was excited to read the manuscript, and it was hard for Mishka to keep his hands away from her laptop that held all the secrets. Little Eric also joined preschool and was extremely happy to find kids of his age to play with. Mishka was slowly coming back to her original form, but her relationship with Rose was still strained as the latter was maintaining a gap with her. Daniel, too, was a little hesitant around Mishka, and she somehow realised it and stopped going to the Knight mansion. Leo was unhappy again. He wanted Mishka close to him, in his mansion, but Christian was stubborn about living in the apartment. “You have got an appointment with James!” Christian reminded Mishka while wearing a silk blue tie. “I remember. I’ll drop Eric at school and then head to his clinic.” She said and turned to Eric, “It’s bathing time, come on,” She said, but Eric ran away and made Mis
Christian was sleeping peacefully. His hand roamed on the left side of the bed and he slowly opened his eyes. He jerked up and looked around, only to find Mishka standing in front of the dresser. She was wearing a white top with charcoal black skinny fit jeans, her long dark brown wavy hair open reaching her waist and she wore diamond earrings while humming a song. “What are you doing?” Christian asked, eyeing her actions. She turned and smiled at him. “Oh, you are up. I am going to Snowdrop Publication. I’ve got an appointment with Warren Thomson.” She said with a broad smile on her face and walked toward him. “I met Dr James yesterday. He said I should keep myself engaged. That’s why I’ve decided to resume my editing job.” She said, sitting beside him on the bed. “Are you out of your mind? After what happened yesterday, you think…” Before Christian could complete it, Mishka interrupted him. “What happened?” She asked, cluelessly, and Christian furrowed his brows. “You don’t re
“My wife, Mishka, met you this morning. What’s exactly wrong with her?” Christian asked, and Dr James took a sip of his drink. “She is suffering from melancholic depression.” Dr James states and Christian’s heart skipped a beat. FLASHBACK “Send the next patient in,” Dr James asked the nurse, who was waiting for his instruction. The door of the cabin opened again and Mishka stepped in. “Please take a seat,” Dr James said while writing something on his writing pad. Mishka settled on the seat opposite him and gulped nervously. She didn’t know how to explain. If this was some physical injury, she could’ve described it, but what to describe when she doesn’t know what she was suffering from? Mishka continuously tapped her fingers on the desk and James noticed, “Relax, Mrs Knight!” He said and lifted his eyes to look at her anxious face. Mishka’s fingers stopped tapping as she smiled, but she was creeping out from inside. “I think I should come next time, sorry for wasting your time,” S
Christian sat inside his car and slammed his hand on the steering wheel. “I never listened to anyone’s suggestions before taking any decision. I always did what I wanted to do. Then why the fuck I agreed with Danny’s idea when he stopped me from telling the truth of the contract marriage to Mishka? Just Why?” He pulled his hair in frustration. “I have to tell Mishka about Lia. I won’t give any chance to Lia to destroy anything.” He said to himself. “But what if the revelation negatively affects her health?” This question haunted him. “No... No, she will be fine! I’ll make sure this doesn’t affect her, but now I have to disclose the truth even if it creates a rift between us,” He thought when a message from Luke flashed on his screen. “Can you come with Eric and Mishka? Vera wants to see them.” “Sure, we’ll be there in an hour or so,” Christian answered and started the engine of his car when it started raining heavily. He had an unsettling feeling about something is not right. His
