The house shook with the force of each pounding knock, the heavy thuds echoing through the walls like a relentless drumbeat of impending danger. Claire’s breath caught in her throat as she stood frozen, the weight of the situation pressing down on her like a vise. They had made it home, but now it felt like a trap—every window, every door a potential breach point for the men outside.

Ethan quickly ushered Samuel and Lillian into the back room, his eyes darting toward the nearest exit.
