"You don't understand," Arnulfo said, his tone clipped. "Victoria isn't just angry—she's dangerous. She'll destroy anything and anyone she sees as a threat. If she gets her hands on you—"

"Then perhaps you should have let me be the first time," Valentine cut in, her voice rising. "You go on and on about protecting me, but I just see some man trying to dominate me, just like her!"

Arnulfo's face grew dark, his features unreadable as he strode across the deck to stand before her. He stood so close to her that his presence knocked at her heartbeat.

"I don't want you to try to comprehend my decisions," he said, in a low tone. "Every step I've taken has been to ensure you are breathing."

Valentine's fierce resistance gave in for a fraction of a moment under the strain of his words. She detested the way his nearness shook her, detested how he seemed to look through her.

"And what about you?" she whispered, her voice almost lost. "What's stopping her from coming after you? You said it yourse

"Valentine," he said through gritted teeth, "you gotta jump. Now!""What about you Arnulfo?" she yelled back, her voice filled with fear and a touch of desperation."I will come with you!" he yelled at her, his voice unwilling to take no for an answer. "You must trust me!"A round of shots shook the cabin once again and this time a section of the wall broke open. Splinters filled the air as Valentine jumped back, wrapping the life jacket tightly over her chest."Go!" Arnulfo bellowed, shoving her toward the door. With shaking legs, Valentine ran to the edge of the cabin where the beach met the dark waters. The cold waves lapped at the sand, seeming both inviting and foreboding. She hesitated for just a moment, the weight of her decision pressing down on her. The sounds of approaching danger grew louder, creeping into her thoughts like a dark shadow. In a split second, instinct took over. She pulled on the life jacket and plunged into the icy waters below.Behind her, Arnulfo fired a fe

The moon hung low in the sky, casting soft and pale light on a seemingly endless stretch of dense forest before Arnulfo and Valentine. They pressed their way through thick underbrush; their clothes were tattered, their faces were filthy, as they fled for their lives from whatever dangers pursued them. Their hearts were still pumping adrenaline from the shootout and their narrow escape. Each step felt heavy, yet they pushed forward, knowing they had to keep moving. As they ventured deeper into the woods, the chaotic sounds of their past began to fade. The frantic shouts and gunshots were replaced by the gentle rustle of leaves and the distant call of a bird, making the forest feel both peaceful and eerie. Arnulfo glanced over at Valentine, his face taut, scanning the surroundings like an owl in darkness. He didn't expect her to say much; they both needed some time to digest the ordeal they had just escaped from-the Giupere gang.“We need to rest for a while,” Arnulfo said, his voice st

She couldn't allow him to die-not now, not now they were so far from finding any kind of safety. She shook him again, this time more forceful than before."Arnulfo, wake up!" she said, her voice rising to almost an urgent tone. He didn't respond. Valentine bit her lip, weighing her options. The situation was dire; he was the only one who knew how to get them out of here, and she was no doctor. She could try to find help but was in the middle of nowhere, miles from anywhere else and beyond civilization. The island felt vast and endless, and if she left him alone, there was a chance she would not find him again. Her gaze drifted to the fire that had burned out, the embers now cold. Her mind raced to find a solution, any solution."Think, Valentine. Think." she muttered to herself. Then, an idea sparked. She had noticed plants about the area, plants she felt sure were familiar, but those she was sure of not did her know of there medicinal characteristics. Her grandmother had once taught

"We were attacked," she said cautiously, choosing her words. "The Giupere gang. Victoria. They're coming for us." Arnulfo's face darkened with anger as he listened, and for a moment, Valentine felt a flicker of hope. But he knew better than to think like that. His body was still waylaid by the injuries and the fever.Arnulfo lay there, paralysed and in extreme pain, with a bullet stuck deep in his arm. Valentine looked at him; his body was so weak that it was shaking with fever. Shrugging her shoulders, she threw away her jacket and covered him with it, trying to be as soft as possible. She had no words to find the right things to say; their situation was grim, and she could not pretend otherwise. She couldn't shield him from it all, certainly not from Victoria, for whom nothing was sacrosanct if she wished it. "I'm afraid, Arnulfo," she said, her voice trembling with feeling. "I don't know how much longer we can hide." There was no response for a few moments. Then Arnulfo's weak hand

Arnulfo lay silent, his body wracked with fever, slipping in and out of consciousness. Valentine sat beside him, her heart heavy with worry. She sits beside him, powerless in the face of his attempts at breathing. The cabin falls silent, except for sounds of the forest outside. They had hoped for safety but found themselves in a crisis instead. She thought about how far they had come and how alone they felt. It was strange to be so lost in nature, yet so close to danger. An old lady had found them, taking them in without question, her wrinkled face soft with kindness despite the grim circumstances. The woman, who had lived in isolation for years, had tended to the fire and made them both tea. Now, she looked over at Arnulfo, assessing his condition with a practiced eye. "You have to take the bullet out," she said softly, her voice rough but firm. "That's the only way he'll recover." Valentine stared at the old lady in horror."What? Take out the bullet? I can't… I don't know how to do

She inhaled deep, still staring at Arnulfo's pale face. But yet, it was in fighting for that impossible mission of holding her back that he had protected her, even through injuries and fever. All the things that had to be endured through that hour of him taking her remained untouched, but somehow he stands before her—a man crafted from his wars, and bearing secrets she only can imagine. The soft glow of firelight cast shadows on the cabin walls, flickering and shifting like her thoughts. She couldn't explain this pull toward him now, but it was there, undeniable and growing stronger. The old woman, who had invited them into her home, had prepared herbs and set water to boil. The wrinkled hands were steady, laying out instructions for Valentine to remove the bullet from his shoulder. It terrified her but she was given no option by the urgency in the woman's voice. "You will need to be strong," the old woman said, her sharp eyes piercing Valentine's hesitation. "If you don't act, he won

As the days passed, Arnulfo's condition slowly improved. His fever had subsided, and the wound on his arm was healing, though the pain still lingered. He could feel himself growing stronger, but it was the quiet moments—when Valentine would care for him—that made him realize something deeper was happening. He lay quietly watching her as she moved around the little cabin, ministering to him with an absorbed care he didn't quite believe in. Softness now played in the sharp lineaments, softness which had not existed there before. Valentine, once kidnapped from this woman, seemed now the only person in the world who gave a damn about whether he was living or dying. Her hands were constantly engaged in cleaning his wounds, readjusting his bandages, and ensuring that he had food. She spoke little, but the care she gave him was more than enough to convey her feelings. It was hard for Arnulfo to ignore the growing warmth in his chest as he watched her selflessly tend to him. Every little gestu

The morning was still when Arnulfo and Valentine prepared to leave the old lady's cabin. The fragrance of hot-brewed tea clung to the air, a gentle comfort which both of them couldn't wholly accept in the presence of their departure. At the door stood the kind old lady, her creased wrinkled face all anxiety. She had opened the door for them, taken Arnulfo in and provided medical care for his injuries. They had been her guest for days without asking for anything in return. Valentine felt a pang of guilt as they packed up, knowing their presence had put the woman at risk. Thank you for everything," Valentine whispered, her voice full of emotion, trying to say as much as possible."You saved him. You saved us." The old lady dismissed the gesture with a hand wave, though her eyes were welling up."You don't have to mind about me, dear. Just ensure both you remain safe. Trouble has been after you as some dark cloud follows; now you have each other. Arnulfo stepped forward, his movements ca

The soft hum of engines faded into silence as Vito stepped out of his car, his sharp suit a stark contrast to the grim exhaustion in his eyes. He was a man used to holding all the cards, but tonight, his hands felt empty. He had nothing left to gamble except his pride—and even that had been chipped away.Arnulfo's estate stretched before him, a fortress of understated elegance. Lights gleamed softly through tall windows, and guards stood at attention, their gazes keen as they watched every movement Vito made. He raised his hands a little, holding himself back as one of Arnulfo's men approached."I need to speak with him," Vito said, trying to keep his voice steady as he fought what was going on inside. "Tell him it's urgent. The guard hesitated for a moment then nodded, disappearing into the house. Minutes later, the heavy doors creaked open, and there stood Arnulfo, holding a glass of whiskey in one hand and wearing a faint smirk on his lips."Well, well," Arnulfo said in his drawled

The night wore on, and each passing second fed the fire in Victoria's chest. But she felt the restraint of her place more with every ticking moment. The room, even though it be luxurious, would choke her; every inch made her remember the powerful figurehead she once had been, feared and respected equally. Today, she's a pawn, playing her part in her father's games-to be trapped, to be manipulated, to be strangled. Her pacing was interrupted by a soft knock on the door. Victoria froze, her sharp gaze snapping to the entrance. Nobody dared to disturb her unless absolutely necessary."Miss Victoria?" came the timid voice of Elena, one of the few staff members brave—or foolish—enough to address her directly."Go away," Victoria snapped, her tone icy.She was silent for a long time before responding, her voice shaking a little. "Don Victor sent me to bring you dinner, ma'am. You haven't eaten all day."Victoria clenched her fists. She was starving, but the idea of accepting anything from he

Meanwhile, Arnulfo sat back in his chair, an expression of mirth and incredulity crossing his face as Leo relayed the latest news."Victor grounded his own daughter?" Arnulfo asked, raising an eyebrow, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "Victoria Giupere, locked away like a disobedient teenager?"Leo nodded, his voice guarded. "It's true. She's confined to the estate. Don Victor has placed strict orders—no one in, no one out without his say. He's furious about the mess she's made."Arnulfo laughed, but the sound was devoid of humor. "I suppose the mighty Victoria wasn't so untouchable after all. What a shame. She's like a caged lioness now, pacing behind gilded bars."Leo looked at Arnulfo. "Do you think we should be afraid? If she is confined, that means she's planning something. That woman doesn't know how to just sit there."Arnulfo became pensive and started tapping his fingers on the armrest of his chair. "Oh, she is planning something, all right. Victor may think he could contain

They stood there, bathed in the warm caress of twilight, drawing strength from each other. And in the distance, the final rays of the sun disappeared as the garden kept on being lit by the silver cool glow of the stars. And for the first time since what seemed to be an eternity, Sabrina allowed herself the hope that peace was possible-they would face whatever came after that together. The aftermath of the latest clash between Carla's and Vito's forces was destructive. The debris-strewn streets were replete with shattered vehicles and injured bodies. The constant crackle and boom of firefights diminished into eerie stillness, cut only by groans of wounded and wail of sirens in the far distance. She was standing in the midst of wreckage. Her breathing harsh, clothes were torn, and besmeared with blood. She rubbed a streak of blood from her forehead; she had no idea whose it belonged to, though. Her men were trying to regroup, but they'd lost far too many.Carla's jaw set, and her dark ey

Meanwhile, Carla was in the thick of the fight on the other side of the battle. Her gun was blazing as she led her men with fearless resolve into the fray, her voice hoarse from shouting, "Hold the line! We've bled too much to give up now!"It was a ferocious fight, the product of their shared disdain for one another. As daylight came, streets lay scattered with leftovers of battle-ash, wrecked automobiles, smashed glass panes, blood-splattered pavement-and a city still had all its wounds; and it could already remember to view streets grimly against all this as overnight's carnage spilled on it. Smoky haze emanated from burned automobile hulls and morning air held that burning sensation, sharp with powder fumes.Glass cracked on the floor, crunching as the first rays of morning lit up the site of slaughter: blood on concrete, painting in macabre red, of lives lost over the mercilessly endless war of Vito against Carla. Standing over the ruins of his operations, his features were grim a

Victoria stood up, her gait slow and deliberate. She trailed her fingers over the intricate carvings on the mahogany desk in the corner of the room. Her father had selected this prison for her with careful consideration—everything she could possibly need was here, except freedom. But what Don Victor didn't understand was that Victoria wasn't a woman who waited for opportunity to come knocking on her door. She created them. Her eyes locked onto the mirror that hung on the wall, its gilded frame glinting in the dim light. She contemplated her own reflection for a moment, a look of hardness on her face like stone. This was no fragile, defeated girl. This was Victoria Giupere—a woman who had built her reputation on cunning, manipulation, and power. And no one, not even her father, could strip her of that. She turned her head to the door, her mind calculating. The guards outside were loyal, but loyalty could be bought—or broken. All she needed was to sow the right seeds of doubt, the right

As the soft gold rays spread across the bedroom, the world outside became alive once more. The pounding heart of the city would soon return Arnulfo to its craziness, but for now he let himself just bask at this temporary peace. In Valentines' embracing arms, solace was at hand, remembering that even under the darkness are lights.Valentine stroked her fingers along the swell of his jaw, the touch as soothing as a balm. "You carry so much, Arnulfo," she said gently. "You do not have to do that alone."He met her gaze, his eyes filled with a sense of gratitude and resolve. "I know. You have been my strength, Valentine. Every step I take, every battle I fight, it is all for us. The life we are building together. She smiled, her expression tender. “And I’ll always be by your side, no matter what. But promise me something.”“What is it?” he asked, his tone serious.“Promise me that when this is all over—when the dust settles—you’ll allow yourself to breathe. To live. Not for the city, not

"No, no, no," Arnulfo said, holding her hands. He cuddled her close and kissed her cheek. "Leave them in, my babe," he whispered in her ear.He pulled the dress up to reveal her cute belly button, with a small strawberry piercing, which he savoured with kisses, as he stroked her thighs.Arnulfo began kissing her forehead. "You're mine, Valentine. I'm going to treat you like my own!" He sensually ran his lips downto her nose, and then kissed her soft neck, feeling the pulse in her veins.Valentine groaned as he stroked her bare back by her shoulders. She started trembling as he caressed his way to her upper chest, with strong but nerdy hands- which he used for training and writing so fiercely that there were some minute scars still there. She was then kissed over her strapless purple and red floral playsuit, over the cloth over her right nipple. He blew on it; she began to cry with pleasure.Arnulfo immediately stopped, his heart skipping a beat. He had not intended to make her cry!"

For Emilio, in Victor's clenched fists and stiffened posture, he saw a leader wrestling with betrayal but a father torn between duty and love. The silence was heavy and heavy until it dragged. It felt like the walls themselves were holding their breath and wanted not to disturb this fragile moment. Finally, the boy in the corner had just listened silently till Arnulfo rose from his corner and began: "Victoria. Do you know that everything has started to disintegrate-all this confusion within this city-with Victoria? All this mess no longer is simply your family issue. She dragged all of us into this one."Victor turned, the piercing look pinning Arnulfo. "Do you not know that? He sounded tired. "Can you not envision that I spend each day plagued by the fear that my very daughter has ended this empire as surely as my brother did a lifetime ago?Arnulfo gritted his jaw. But he took a step forward. "Knowing it and doing it are two different things, Victor. She's no longer just your concer
