"Welcome." Lucas announced with a flourish as they arrived at a grand villa, standing out amidst the verdant hills of Opio. The villa exuded the charm of Provencal architecture, boasting of stone walls, a terracotta roof, and arched windows. Its terrace offered a stunning view of the sea, while a private pool and a small dock with a sleek yacht completed the idyllic picture.
The villa was surrounded by a high wall, guarded by two muscular men in black suits and sunglasses. Kate was awestruck by the magnificence of her surroundings and the meticulous security measures in place. A surge of adrenaline pulsed through her as she remembered Lucas' words. ‘My enemies wouldn't be foolish enough to attack you in my villa.’
"So, this is your home?" She asked, gazing at the imposing villa in front of her.
"And yours." Lucas replied, a tinge of satisfaction in his voice that made Kate snap her mouth shut. "I still prefer my apartment," she quipped, unwilling to back down.
"Including the ruthless gunmen?" Lucas raised an eyebrow, questioning her.
"No!" Kate exclaimed.
"Then that's a point in favor of my villa." Lucas countered as Kate rolled her eyes. "Hardly an advantage when your deal is the reason those gunmen were after me in the first place."
Lucas didn't respond, shaking his head as he walked towards the front door. The inside was just as impressive as the outside.
"Within the villa, you are free to come and go as you please. But when you do, make sure you have someone with you for protection, preferably Ace." Lucas advised.
"Is it still dangerous for me to be seen in public?" Kate frowned, worried.
"Most won't dare to harm you in a crowd, but it's best not to take any chances." Lucas reassured her. "This is your room. Dinner will be served at six in the dining room, don't be late." With that, Lucas left the room.
Kate gazed around the room, feeling a sense of melancholy at the dark colors and masculine aesthetic. She brushed away an invisible tear, determined to put up with her new living arrangements for the sake of their deal.
She let out another sigh as she made her way to the bedside and carefully lowered herself onto the bed.
"What am I supposed to do now? Sit here and dwell on how I almost got shot?" She closed her eyes and then reopened them, fixating on the shimmering ring adorning her finger. "Am I a prisoner or a princess?"
Lost in her thoughts, she sat there for quite some time until there was a knock on the door.
"Who is it?" She asked, exhaustion evident in her voice.
"Ace."
"Come in." Ace entered the room, carrying two suitcases.
"Glad to see you're still in one piece. After taking care of the situation, I packed your belongings for you."
"Oh, thank you, Ace. But... are you okay?" She tilted her head, concerned.
"What? You doubted me?" Ace grinned and confidently walked into the room. "Those suckers never had a chance!"
She couldn't help but smile at him, a small sense of relief washing over her. He placed the suitcases on the bed.
"You really packed all my things?" Kate asked again, touched by his gesture.
"Yup! All your clothes and anything else you might need." His cheeks turned a light shade of pink, and he quickly averted his gaze. "And... umm... Don't worry, I made sure not to peek at your... you know..."
"Sorry?" Kate's eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
"Your... unmentionables." Ace's phrasing coupled with his blush caused Kate to stifle a laugh. ‘He seems so tough, I never expected him to be shy about underwear.’ She found it oddly endearing.
"Um... did you pack my toothbrush?" Kate interjected, wanting to change the subject.
"Yup, and your hairbrush and makeup too," Ace replied, clearly relieved to move on from the topic.
"Thank you."
"Don't mention it! I'll leave you to unpack then." He gave her a friendly nod and made his way to the door.
Alone once again, Kate exhaled deeply and quietly uttered, "Welcome to my new life."
The first thing she did was open up the suitcases to change into fresh clothes. She spent a considerable amount of time unpacking before she realized it was almost six o'clock. She emerged from her room and headed to the dining room.
Locating the dining room proved effortless for Kate, as Lucas had already taken his seat at the head chair. She settled across from him, but he scowled at her attire. "Those clothes won't suffice."
"Excuse me?"
"If that's your best outfit, we'll need to rectify that," he disapproved, his expression revealing his disappointment.
"What's wrong with what I'm wearing?" Kate asked, observing herself once more. She had thrown on a faded blue jean trouser and a slightly oversized black top.
"They're inappropriate for a woman in your new role. From now on, you'll dress accordingly. That's settled." Lucas then proceeded to explain the terms of their arrangement.
"Rules?" Kate furrowed her brows, and Lucas nodded.
"Any associate of the mafia must adhere to a contract, and I expect the same from you. Firstly, no outside relationships. If you were caught with another man, it would ruin everything we hope to achieve with this plan. That includes any physical involvement with others." Kate's face flushed at his last statement.
"What do you mean, ‘with others’?"
Lucas raised an eyebrow, a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. "What, you just moved in and you're already so eager? Unfortunately for you, I'm a busy man and won't have time to cater to your desires."
‘What the hell? Not only is he a rude and arrogant gangster, but he's also full of himself!’ Kate thought to herself.
"W-Wait a minute! Th-That's not what I meant," she stuttered in reaction to his conceit, but Lucas simply took a sip of his wine and continued.
"Secondly, no meddling in my affairs. Since this relationship is a temporary arrangement, it's best if you know as little as possible about my business. This villa is yours, but you are prohibited from entering my room and office."
"I wasn't exactly hoping to learn about the mafia anyway," Kate mused as she shrugged.
Hi guys..... Welcome again to Mr. Mafia Achilles Heels. I'd appreciate your support, review, comments and lovely gem. What do you think about Kate and Lucas so far?
"Thirdly, Do not develop romantic feelings for me," Lucas stated boldly as he laid down his rules. "Excuse me?" Kate's disbelief was palpable. ‘Did he really just tell me I am forbidden from falling in love with him?’ "And what if I do?" Kate's question escaped her lips before she could stop herself. She caught a glimpse of Lucas' widened eyes and noticed his fist clenching before he covered up his reaction a moment later. "It could jeopardize the plan," he responded without hesitation. "Why?" Kate probed further. "To the public, we will appear as a couple, but only until I gain control over the business and family. After that, we will go our separate ways. If you fall in love with me, it would only complicate matters when it's time to end our arrangement." Kate was taken aback by his words. ‘Did he make that rule to spare me a broken heart? I never thought he would care that much.’ She wet her lips and swallowed hard before speaking again, "But what if it goes the other way? Wh
Kate stood up from her seat and approached his table, taking a seat across from him. "I'm glad I ran into you," she began, before Matteo interrupted her. "Don't worry about it," he said with a reassuring smile. Kate persisted, nervously drumming her fingers as she spoke. Matteo reached out and covered her hands with his, his touch gentle yet firm. "I'm your friend, Kate. You can trust me. And if you ever find yourself in trouble, you know you can come to me for help." Kate smiled, ready to assure him, but then her gaze fell upon something on his shirt. She leaned in closer to get a better look at the emblem. Her eyes widened in shock. ‘Oh my… Is that a police badge? Is Matteo a police officer?’ She thought to herself. "Is everything okay?" Matteo asked, noticing her reaction. "Y-yes, I was just…surprised. Is it okay for us to be seen together?" Kate asked, still in disbelief. "Of course. We've known each other for years," he replied, taking her hands in his and staring into he
Lucas escorted Kate to an upscale shopping district she had never before set foot in. As they approached the luxurious boutique and gazed at the opulent clothing, she couldn't help but exclaim internally, ‘Wow... Some of these selections cost more than what I earn in a month.’ The manager of the establishment emerged to greet Lucas, accompanied by a store attendant. "Welcome, Sir Romano," he addressed Lucas. With a wave, Lucas dismissed the manager and led Kate further into the store. She followed in awe, her mouth agape at the sight of the stunning dresses. "Quit gawking and strive for a more cultivated demeanor, befitting my fiancée," Lucas tersely advised her. "Not some uncultured country bumpkin." "But what if I actually feel like a bumpkin?" Kate retorted. "You do realize that's an insult, correct?" Lucas raised an eyebrow. Kate shrugged, "Well, given how out of place I feel in this environment, I might as well be a country girl visiting the big city for the first time." "Y
Upon their return from the shopping escapade, Lucas was greeted with the task of bringing their purchases to Kate's room as she headed to the kitchen to whip up a light dinner for them. A little while later, Lucas, now refreshed and clad in a casual pajama ensemble, stepped into the living room, greeted by the tantalizing scent wafting from the kitchen. Without hesitation, he made his way towards the source. And what he beheld took his breath away. Kate had changed into a revealing set of clothing, displaying her toned legs in a short nicker and a cropped top that accentuated her navel. With earpieces in place, she swayed and hummed along to her music as she moved gracefully in the kitchen. Lucas couldn't help but draw in a sharp breath as he watched her from behind, his emerald eyes darkening with desire. Who knew someone could exude such sexiness in the kitchen? All he could think about in that moment was bending her over the counter and ravishing her. But as soon as he became a
A gentle rap on the door disrupted her thoughts, "Enter." Kate's voice carried a hint of impatience. The door swung open and Lucas glided in, dressed in a sleek black suit with his hair slicked back. He exuded a devilishly attractive aura, causing Kate to involuntarily admire him. "Excellent. You're all set," Lucas remarked, surveying her appearance. Kate donned a stunning black floor-length gown that accentuated her curves. Her shimmering black heels added a touch of sophistication, while a delicate diamond necklace adorned her décolletage. In her dainty hands, she carried a striking red clutch, adding a bold pop of color to the ensemble. Her face was adorned with light makeup, highlighted by a seductive red lipstick that begged to be tasted. "I don't feel prepared," she confessed to Lucas. "You don't have to be. Just stand by my side and mind your words. And be especially cautious around Wilson," Lucas warned, his expression serious. "Wilson? Who is he?" Kate inquired, in
The sincerity and intensity in Matteo's gaze ignited a burning desire to aid Kate. But the gravity of the situation struck her - ‘This is dangerous.’ She thought and straightened up, turning away from the balcony. "I.... should go." Matteo caught her wrist before she could leave. "Why? Because Lucas might be watching?" Kate's surprise was evident as he continued, "I cannot fathom that you willingly associate with that man." "It's true, but--" "But what?" Matteo interjected, his grip on her arm tightening as he peered into her eyes. "If you've been coerced in any way, I will assist you. I'll protect you, Kate, no matter what, but you must confide in me." The offer was alluring, but Kate shook her head. What could a solitary police officer do against the powerful Romano family? And what would happen to her uncle if she backed out or acted recklessly? No, she couldn't jeopardize two lives for her own sake. "It's not as simple as you believe." Kate said. Matteo sighed and raked a
As she gazed up at him, Kate couldn't help but wonder, “I wonder if we truly appear to be in love.” Hearing her question, Lucas inquired, "What is it?" Embarrassed, Kate shook her head, her cheeks growing redder. The rule of not falling in love had been firmly established by Lucas, and she was well aware of it. But the mere thought of it still sent a slight pang through her heart that she chose to ignore. "I was just thinking, why did you warn me not to trust Matteo? I know he's a cop, but that doesn't mean... "...he's up to something," Lucas interjected. "I don't know what it is, but you should be cautious around him." Kate fell into deep thought as she considered his words. Could Matteo really be up to something? The thought lingered, until she suddenly had a realization. "Wait..." she mumbled. Glancing back up at Lucas, she quickly looked away, feeling her cheeks burn. ‘Is it possible that Lucas is jealous?’ She wondered, her heart racing. As they continued to dance, she r
Kate was stunned as she gazed at the message, realizing the name it bore. During their initial year of friendship, she had nicknamed Matteo as ‘Sparky’ due to her first impression of him. “That has to be him,” she pondered as she continued to stare at the message. “Lucas warned me not to trust him. But he’s my friend; I need to know what’s going on,” she asserted, determined to uncover the truth. She hurriedly dressed and snuck out of the villa, ensuring she remained unseen. Upon reaching the park, she found Matteo waiting for her, standing behind a tree and gazing at the sky. As he turned to her, a relieved smile appeared on his face, and he exclaimed, “You came.” “I didn’t think you would message me unless it was important. What’s happening?” Kate inquired, a crease forming on her forehead. “First, I need to explain the reason for my return. I was transferred here from HQ with a specific mission – to investigate the Mafia’s activities,” he explained, causing Kate’s stomach to c
The cathedral stood with its magnificent dome and intricate stone carvings that have stood the test of time. It was a sight to behold. Outside of it, Ace stood there with furrowed brows as he appeared to be dialing someone on the phone and placing the mobile close to his ear. He was pacing back and forth; his expression weary. He had tried his best to delay the wedding and keep the guests waiting for Lucas, but Ace couldn't bear it any longer when people started to get impatient, and with Wilson watching his every move, he couldn't make it so obvious that something was wrong. He was finally able to catch a breather and left the suffocating hall, and that was when he decided to try calling Lucas on the phone. If he didn't appear with Kate in a few minutes, Ace was certain he wouldn't have any excuse left to keep the guests waiting anymore.“What's wrong, Ace? Where is Lucas and his little bride?" Elizabeth said as she stood behind Ace with a knowing smile. Then she placed her hands on
“I said, 'Get your hands off her!’” Lucas snarled as he pulled out his gun and pointed it straight at Matteo.“Lucas!” Kate gasped, her heart lurching in her throat as she stepped between Matteo and Lucas. “What are you doing? Drop the gun.”Seeing her stand in front of Matteo and protect him, Lucas saw red. He couldn't bear the sight of her standing beside another man and defending him. Lucas drew his gun and aimed at Matteo's leg. “I’ll give you two seconds, Kitty. Come over to my side, or I shoot him.”Kate swallowed hard as she nodded and let her feet take a step forward, slowly walking toward Lucas, her eyes trained on his gun. As she took another step, she felt someone grab her hand and pull her backward, then she felt her back hit Matteo's chest, the contact driving Lucas mad as he pulled the trigger, shooting Matteo in the leg.“Lucas, no!” Kate cried as she turned back to see Matteo fall to the ground, his face pale. She rushed toward him, holding him closely to her body as fa
When Kate pulled away from the hug and wanted to step back from Matteo, his hands went around her back, and he held her waist, his actions surprising Kate. “W-what are you doing, Matteo?" Kate asked, her breath suddenly turning labored, not from excitement like she wanted to feel, but from nervousness—or was it fear?Matteo's grip tightened around her waist, then a look of hesitation crossed his face, but it soon turned into seriousness as he gazed at her with determination in his eyes. It was now or never. With that thought in mind, he began, “Kate… You're one of the most important people to me. I’ve felt this way, even back in school, and our time here together has strengthened my feelings. When the headquarters assigned someone to be transferred here, I immediately volunteered because I thought it might bring us together again.”The thrumming of Kate's heart was all too clear as she processed Matteo's words. “You came back to the city for me?" she asked, looking at him, perplexed.
“What do you mean ‘you can't find them?’ Search every nook and cranny of the city; I want both of them found in less than thirty minutes!" Lucas barked into his phone as he hung up. In frustration, he threw his phone across the room, taking his anger out on the poor device. One hour had already gone by, and his men still hadn't gotten news of Kate or her whereabouts. It was as if she had disappeared from New Dawn City. Lucas gritted his teeth in annoyance as he clenched his fists together. He was slowly losing the tiny shred of patience that was left inside him.Kate was going to hear it from him once she was found, and he would make sure she never dared to run away from him again! He would teach her a lesson she’d never forget, Lucas mused, as he continued pacing back and forth in the room.Suddenly, he stopped in his tracks when one of his men hurriedly entered and stood before him. “Boss…. We found her!” he announced, and Lucas nodded, curling his lips into a wicked smirk as his ey
“Er… why are you staring at me like that?” Ace asked as he shifted back slightly in his seat. ‘What has gotten him all worked up now?’ Ace wondered, glancing up at Lucas with a confused expression. Lucas balled his hands into fists, his thin lips pursed tightly, and his emerald eyes blazed with fury. “You had just one job, Ace! And you failed miserably at it. How the hell did she escape the villa without anyone seeing her?" Lucas seethed while Ace blinked at him. “W-what do you mean?" he asked. “Kate. She’s not in the house. She escaped last night. That fucking woman drugged me! I'm going to make her pay!" Lucas barked, and at that moment, it dawned on Ace as well. He looked around his surroundings and then recalled having drinks with Kate while they were having a conversation together. Was he drugged too? Of course he was! How in the world would he explain the nagging headache he was having, and what was he doing in the dining room so early in the morning? Ace mused silently. “D
Kate's heart pounded in her chest, as she rose from her seat, and moved towards the door, her steps light and cautious. She glanced back at Ace one last time, then swallowed a lump in her throat as she turned away, and slipped out of the living room and into the hallway, her mind racing.Kate walked cautiously until she was at the door’s entrance, then she looked back, her ears straining for any sound that might indicate she had been discovered. She didn't know why she hadn't come across any of Lucas's men that patrol in the hallway around nights like this, but for whatever reason they were not present, Kate was grateful for that. She slowly turned the knob of the door, and pushed the door open, then walked outside and closed the door behind her.Outside, the cold night air grazed Kate's cheek. She paused, taking a deep breath to steady herself. She squinted her eyes to look at the gigantic metal gate standing between her and her freedom, and Kate bit her lips as she wondered how she
‘How do I get the pill now?’ Kate mused, as she held the wine tightly in her hand, and then she froze when she realized that she was still wrapped in a towel. ‘Oh my God! How did I forget that?’ Kate said in her mind, as she dropped the wine bottle back on the kitchen counter and paced around the room. She took deep breaths, as she pondered on her next step of actions. She walked back toward the kitchen door, and poked her head out to call out to Ace while hiding her body from his view. “Hey, Ace. I was wondering if I could get back to my room, and find something appropriate to wear. I— I don't feel comfortable like this with you.” Ace, who had been sitting leisurely on the dining table while he waited for Kate, turned his head toward her. And when he realized that she was putting on nothing except a towel that was wrapped around her, a blush crept up his cheek, and he quickly turned away from her. He coughed, and said to her, "Lucas will murder me if he finds out I was with you in
“Lucas." Kate gasped, as she scrambled from the bed, and went to the man’s side, her eyes flickering with worry. But that was just for a moment, as it dawned on her that the drug she had mixed in Lucas's wine had taken effect, and that was probably why he slumped on the bed like that. Kate's heart raced, as she glanced at the man's sleeping form. He looked completely harmless, and his face was as serene as that of an angel. She traced her fingers across his brows, his cheek, his jawline down to his thin lips, and Kate felt her heart beating wildly in her chest. She found herself hesitating about her plans with Matteo. She couldn't help but feel her heart aching a little at the thought of escaping from Lucas, and staying far away from him. But isn't that what she wanted? So why was she feeling this way?’ Kate mused, as she watched the man, deep in slumber. “What will you do when you find out that I'm gone? Will you miss me? Will you look for me?" Kate mumbled quietly, as she leaned fo
Wilson walked into the hospital with his trusted aide, Aiden, following after him, while Wilson's face was marred with worry. He had been searching for his daughter for three days now, and didn't know who had the guts to kidnap Elizabeth from under his nose. He had gotten a call from someone who told him that his daughter had been brought to their hospital by a young man, and the young man had given them an order to reach out to Wilson when the span of three days had passed by.“Sir, do you think she's here or maybe someone is trying to play a dirty trick on us?" Aiden said, as he walked alongside Wilson, and looked around the surroundings with wariness in his eyes.“I don't know what's going on, Aiden, but we will find out soon." Wilson replied, as he walked to the reception area where a young female nurse with black glasses that framed her face, looked up at them.“How may I help you, sir?" She asked, looking between Wilson and Aiden. “I'm here for Elizabeth Wilson. Is there a pati
