LOGIN"Welcome." Lucas announced with a flourish as they arrived at a grand villa, standing out amidst the verdant hills of Opio. The villa exuded the charm of Provencal architecture, boasting of stone walls, a terracotta roof, and arched windows. Its terrace offered a stunning view of the sea, while a private pool and a small dock with a sleek yacht completed the idyllic picture.
The villa was surrounded by a high wall, guarded by two muscular men in black suits and sunglasses. Kate was awestruck by the magnificence of her surroundings and the meticulous security measures in place. A surge of adrenaline pulsed through her as she remembered Lucas' words. ‘My enemies wouldn't be foolish enough to attack you in my villa.’
"So, this is your home?" She asked, gazing at the imposing villa in front of her.
"And yours." Lucas replied, a tinge of satisfaction in his voice that made Kate snap her mouth shut. "I still prefer my apartment," she quipped, unwilling to back down.
"Including the ruthless gunmen?" Lucas raised an eyebrow, questioning her.
"No!" Kate exclaimed.
"Then that's a point in favor of my villa." Lucas countered as Kate rolled her eyes. "Hardly an advantage when your deal is the reason those gunmen were after me in the first place."
Lucas didn't respond, shaking his head as he walked towards the front door. The inside was just as impressive as the outside.
"Within the villa, you are free to come and go as you please. But when you do, make sure you have someone with you for protection, preferably Ace." Lucas advised.
"Is it still dangerous for me to be seen in public?" Kate frowned, worried.
"Most won't dare to harm you in a crowd, but it's best not to take any chances." Lucas reassured her. "This is your room. Dinner will be served at six in the dining room, don't be late." With that, Lucas left the room.
Kate gazed around the room, feeling a sense of melancholy at the dark colors and masculine aesthetic. She brushed away an invisible tear, determined to put up with her new living arrangements for the sake of their deal.
She let out another sigh as she made her way to the bedside and carefully lowered herself onto the bed.
"What am I supposed to do now? Sit here and dwell on how I almost got shot?" She closed her eyes and then reopened them, fixating on the shimmering ring adorning her finger. "Am I a prisoner or a princess?"
Lost in her thoughts, she sat there for quite some time until there was a knock on the door.
"Who is it?" She asked, exhaustion evident in her voice.
"Ace."
"Come in." Ace entered the room, carrying two suitcases.
"Glad to see you're still in one piece. After taking care of the situation, I packed your belongings for you."
"Oh, thank you, Ace. But... are you okay?" She tilted her head, concerned.
"What? You doubted me?" Ace grinned and confidently walked into the room. "Those suckers never had a chance!"
She couldn't help but smile at him, a small sense of relief washing over her. He placed the suitcases on the bed.
"You really packed all my things?" Kate asked again, touched by his gesture.
"Yup! All your clothes and anything else you might need." His cheeks turned a light shade of pink, and he quickly averted his gaze. "And... umm... Don't worry, I made sure not to peek at your... you know..."
"Sorry?" Kate's eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
"Your... unmentionables." Ace's phrasing coupled with his blush caused Kate to stifle a laugh. ‘He seems so tough, I never expected him to be shy about underwear.’ She found it oddly endearing.
"Um... did you pack my toothbrush?" Kate interjected, wanting to change the subject.
"Yup, and your hairbrush and makeup too," Ace replied, clearly relieved to move on from the topic.
"Thank you."
"Don't mention it! I'll leave you to unpack then." He gave her a friendly nod and made his way to the door.
Alone once again, Kate exhaled deeply and quietly uttered, "Welcome to my new life."
The first thing she did was open up the suitcases to change into fresh clothes. She spent a considerable amount of time unpacking before she realized it was almost six o'clock. She emerged from her room and headed to the dining room.
Locating the dining room proved effortless for Kate, as Lucas had already taken his seat at the head chair. She settled across from him, but he scowled at her attire. "Those clothes won't suffice."
"Excuse me?"
"If that's your best outfit, we'll need to rectify that," he disapproved, his expression revealing his disappointment.
"What's wrong with what I'm wearing?" Kate asked, observing herself once more. She had thrown on a faded blue jean trouser and a slightly oversized black top.
"They're inappropriate for a woman in your new role. From now on, you'll dress accordingly. That's settled." Lucas then proceeded to explain the terms of their arrangement.
"Rules?" Kate furrowed her brows, and Lucas nodded.
"Any associate of the mafia must adhere to a contract, and I expect the same from you. Firstly, no outside relationships. If you were caught with another man, it would ruin everything we hope to achieve with this plan. That includes any physical involvement with others." Kate's face flushed at his last statement.
"What do you mean, ‘with others’?"
Lucas raised an eyebrow, a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. "What, you just moved in and you're already so eager? Unfortunately for you, I'm a busy man and won't have time to cater to your desires."
‘What the hell? Not only is he a rude and arrogant gangster, but he's also full of himself!’ Kate thought to herself.
"W-Wait a minute! Th-That's not what I meant," she stuttered in reaction to his conceit, but Lucas simply took a sip of his wine and continued.
"Secondly, no meddling in my affairs. Since this relationship is a temporary arrangement, it's best if you know as little as possible about my business. This villa is yours, but you are prohibited from entering my room and office."
"I wasn't exactly hoping to learn about the mafia anyway," Kate mused as she shrugged.
Hi guys..... Welcome again to Mr. Mafia Achilles Heels. I'd appreciate your support, review, comments and lovely gem. What do you think about Kate and Lucas so far?
As if Kate knew that Lucas was at the door, she turned her head and looked in his direction. Her heart skipped a beat when she saw him standing there, his gaze locked on her with emotions swirling in his eyes.“Lucas," she whispered softly. Moisture gathered in her eyes as she recalled his painful past that Victor had shared with her. She pushed her own sadness down her throat and focused on the man before her.Kate slid off the bed and, barefoot, hurried towards Lucas. When she neared him, she moved closer and wrapped her hands around his waist.Lucas stilled for a moment, caught off guard by her hug. He hadn't expected such a gesture from her, and the moment she touched him, all the nervousness and tension in his body eased slowly as he allowed himself to breathe in her scent.Lucas inhaled deeply, her scent filling his lungs and grounding him in a way nothing else could. He pulled her against him and lifted her while Kate’s legs locked around his waist and her hands went around his
A slow breath escaped Lucas through his nose as he stared at Victor’s face. “I don't know, man. I'm scared of going to her, not after the issue we had before Wilson took her away. I almost hurt her with my own hands, Victor. She also witnessed me lose control the other day.”Lucas let out a dry laugh as he continued, “Kate must be thinking the worst of me now. What if she despises me and wants nothing to do with me anymore?” he whispered, his expression tightening as if the thought alone was enough to break him.Victor looked at Lucas for the tenth time that day as if he was seeing someone else. Never had he seen Lucas so afraid of facing someone. “You must really love her."Lucas's features softened. “I didn't think I could fall for her, but I did. She drives me crazy, Victor," he admitted, his eyes straying to Kate's door once again.“Come over here,” Victor said, dragging Lucas to the nearest chair in the hallway, and they sat together. Victor looked Lucas in the eye as he spoke. “
Kate was well aware that Matteo was right. Lucas could have punished them differently if he had wanted to.But how could he? It felt like he had been possessed by something. That man she had witnessed that day wanted nothing but bloodshed. He had been ready to kill whoever came his way. Kate thought, then shivered slightly at the memory. No matter how bad Elizabeth had been, Kate knew she didn't deserve that kind of lifetime punishment from Lucas.‘What should she do?’ she wondered, staring at Matteo, who was waiting to hear her speak. But she didn't know what to say to him.Seeing the struggle in Kate's eyes, Matteo let out a sigh. ‘He might have overreacted; it wasn't Kate's fault anyway,’ Matteo thought, as he stared at the floor for a moment before speaking. “I'm sorry, I didn't mean to unload all that on you like that. I just couldn't help myself."“It's fine," Kate said with a wave of her hand.Matteo continued, “I’ve decided to take responsibility for Elizabeth. I'm going to wa
Kate giggled at something her uncle had said to her, then bit into the sandwich she was holding and chewed slowly.A nurse had brought it to her a while ago, telling her that someone had ordered it. Kate had smiled at her, knowing it was Victor who had arranged it. She had collected the brown paper bag from the nurse and thanked her while the nurse nodded and stepped out of the room.Bob scowled at Kate when he saw that she was enjoying herself too much. Then he stood up from the bed, smoothing his outfit. “I think it's time for me to leave. I should let you enjoy your sandwich in peace."The smile slid off Kate's face, and she reached out her hands to stop him from leaving. "Come on, Uncle. Don't go yet; I’m enjoying your company.""Yeah, right. You're enjoying yourself at my expense,” Bob said, feigning anger, but his eyes held affection as he looked at Kate. He’d been telling Kate about the mishap that had happened to him when he went to gamble a week ago at the casino and how he’d
In Elizabeth’s room, Matteo's head rested on the edge of her bed, and his eyes were closed as he slept.Elizabeth's fingers twitched by her side, then her eyes opened slowly, adjusting to the light. ‘I’m alive?’ she thought, letting her eyes dart around the room as she realized she was in the hospital. But who had brought her here? She turned her head to her left and saw a man's head lying beside her. ‘Who is that? One of her father's men?’ She shook her head when it occurred to her that Lucas had probably eliminated all of her father's men and allies.Elizabeth moved her hand and dropped it gently on the man's head. Matteo jerked away instantly, and as his eyes fell on Elizabeth, who was staring back at him, he sat up straighter. “You're awake," he said, his voice filled with relief. After the operation, Elizabeth was transferred from the emergency unit to a ward, and Matteo had been the one looking after her since then. He had also paid her medical bills and listed himself as her gu
Ace froze. He didn't expect that the important thing Uncle Julian wanted to discuss with him was to ask about Lucas's relationship with Kate. ‘Why was he asking me about this instead of Lucas? And why does he seem so interested in their relationship?’ Ace mused, wondering if he should spill everything or leave out some details.“You seem hesitant, Ace. Why is that?" Julian asked, narrowing his eyes."No, Uncle Julian. I'm just trying… to refresh my memory so I don't skip over important details,” Ace explained, chuckling nervously.Julian nodded and crossed his legs. “I'm listening," he said, as one of Lucas's men returned to the living room with a glass of water and handed it to him. Julian took the glass, waved the man off, lifted it to his mouth, and drank. He set the glass on the table before looking at Ace.Ace took that as his cue to start talking. He cleared his throat and began, "Lucas was coerced by the Cosa Nostra to take a fiancée before he could be given access to your bro
Night had settled over the mansion, casting a dark silence over the rooms. Wilson stepped into the living room, his eyes scanning the space for any sign of his daughter. When he didn't find her, he walked into the kitchen to get a glass of water. After pouring himself a drink, he placed the cup dow
“What about now?” Lucas asked, and when Kate cast him a confused look, he explained, “What does he mean to you now?""Umm…” Kate paused, letting his question hang in the air for a while as she collected her thoughts. ‘What does Matteo mean to her now?’Her mind drifted back to the memories she’d sh
Lucas wanted to ask questions about Matteo, to know how they had met and how close they had been, but he shoved the thought aside. This wasn't the right time for that. At this moment, Kate needed him, not his jealousy. He reached out, taking her hands in his. “Kitty,” he called softly, his voice st
Kate sat on the bed, her knees pulled up to her chest, arms wrapped around them. Her head was bowed, her face half-hidden behind her knees, and a soft, broken sob slipped from her lips. Her entire body trembled, as though the memories she’d just shared with Lucas were too heavy for her to bear.Luc
