Chapter 44_ Deadly

“Leave us!" Lucas commanded, and the two men who were in the room bowed as they left the couple alone. Lucas’s emerald eyes darkened as he closed the space between them, and suddenly, he grabbed Kate's hands and slammed her back against the wall, making her gasp in pain.

“Ouch." Kate yelled and glared at the man, whose hands gripped her tiny waist tightly against the wall.

“You have some guts, Kitty." Lucas said, leaning forward close to her ears, and as his breath fanned her skin, Kate froze, suddenly aware of the change in the air. Lucas continued, “Have you forgotten the rules? One that says that you are not meant to poke your little nose in my business."

Kate gulped, though she was scared, but she was not one to back down. Her hazel eyes blazed stubbornly as she retorted, “I couldn't allow you to commit a crime; it's against my principle and righteousness.”

Lucas laughed at her words as a rich and husky sound was heard in the room. Oddly enough, Kate found herself mesmerized by
