If I wanted to find Carl before, the desire for that had accelerated now. I quickly ended the call with Sam after telling her I was on my way. She tried to stop me, as she said she had everything under control, but I couldn't. I had to see and make sure the detective was really okay.

I reached the doorknob and let myself out; all the employees I passed by greeted me but I didn't respond. I was in such a hurry that I almost bumped into someone, and I immediately apologized.

“It's my fault, Ms. Reid.” It was one of the cleaners, and I knew she would take the blame. That's why I apologized before she did. “I was actually on my way to your office,” she said, and I cleared my throat and told her now was not the right time.

“I will speak to you first thing tomorrow when I get here; just remind me in case I forget,” I kindly responded, and she nodded then walked away after bidding me goodbye.

Outside, I found my driver standing by
