20 YEARS LATER
Le Faye sat on the cushion of the penthouse suite. The suite had floor to ceiling windows framing the panoramic view of Italy's skyline. She was clad in an all white attire. Her jumpsuit white, as well as a white shoe which matched the white Versace bag she carried with her on the cushion where she sat. The biggest brand of Italy, reserved only for the richest and elites who could afford the limited editions. Her hair was silky and as dark as ebony. On one wall of the room was a decor wedding photos of she and an elderly man who had smiled his hearts out on the wedding day, evident on the photos that hung on the wall. They had numerous photos together and they were all able to cover the whole side wall that pillared the massive suite of the penthouse. She pressed on her mobile phone which she held in her hand. Her phone pouch screamed class and the titanium cover of her phones back displayed that she used the latest iPhone 20, the limited series of the iPhone brand that had not yet being introduced to the public yet.She went to her G****e app to search on a name. She did not type it.The name was already in the list of her most recent and frequently visited page. She tapped on it and it read;"Will the Montenegro Family allow their son-in-law to become the new governor of Montenegro?"Various media houses from Montenegro, a state countries and miles away from Italy published alot of articles concerning the topic. Most media hours questioned if they'd allow a non-Montenegro by birth take over the Governorship of the state of Montenegro since Marcus Montenegro and his son, Theodore Montenegro had ruled the state for 20 years.Lucas did not have much supporters. Even in the People's Progressive Party which belonged to his father in law, speculations were still being made whether he'd be allowed to be the Governorship flag bearer since he was not a billionaire like the Montenegro's but a second class citizen who found himself lucky to be wedded by the governor's "precious daughter" like the media houses always published. She logged out of the G****e app page she was in and logs to her files. She opened the file on Lucas Elizalde. He was a lawyer 10 years ago before his marriage to the only daughter of the Montenegro's, after which he changed professions and became a politician. He was 2 years younger than Genevieve Montenegro, and he came from a middle class home. This had made eyes turn when the news of their wedding broke the internet. Many bad wondered what made her marry a poor man billion pounds far from her social standing, many had wondered whether he was the one that married her or the other way around as he seemed rather too poor to handle a woman such as Genevieve. He had only his aged mother as his next of kin. He had no child with Genevieve even though it had already been 10 years of their marriage.Currently, he was being speculated of being the Governorship flag bearer of the People's Progressive Party, the political party founded by Marcus Montenegro.Though there were other opponents, most speculated that he would be the next in line after his brother in laws tenure ends in a few months time."I will make you the governor" she muttered under he breathe, inaudible, not even enough to to the hearing of her PA that stood mikes away from her in the suite. She logged out of her files storage and opened her G****e App page again and clicked the second name that was on her search list. "Genevieve Montenegro"Not much was said about her by most Media Houses as she did not join her father's political party. She was the head of the party's external foundation, which served as an independent foundation on it's own, selling Art Pieces and helping Orphanages for public show and appraisal. What struck out amongst all the tabloids that were always published about her was how she valued her marriage and her wedding to her "darling husband", like she always called him in all their interviews. To the world, It seemed that her marriage was her biggest treasure and deep within her, she resolved to squash it.Her right hand started folding and forming a fist when she started to scroll down through her latest photos published by Vogue Montenegro. Her hate increased when she saw her smiling and looking at her husband who stared directly into the camera. This angered her so much that she threw away her phone. Her PA has rushed immediately to her, offering her a bottle of water to calm her nerves down since he was already more used to seeing her in such a mood after seeing or searching anything concerning the Montenegro's..He never bothered to ask her why not the reasons as all of them knew... All her workers did and she had mandated a one week mourning every month to mourn the death of her parents who died in the most brutal way 20 years agoHe picked up the phone and ran back to where he stood before, careful not to disturb her feelings or make her break down since anytime she saw the photos of Genevieve nor her family smiling, she always got angry and they were skeptical of not being the reasons her tears started to drop. When he reached where he had stood before, he had placed a message across to the iPhone Production Company to package another iPhone 20 for his mistress since she did not repeat phones after she broke any of them. She stood up and went over to the glass table that stood by the side of the wall window. She picked the passport and flight tickets that were dropped there on the table and stared at them for a while."We can't travel before next month?" She questioned her PA who stood across."No ma'am, I couldn't secure the tickets. Flights to Montenegro from Italy happens twice per month, unfortunately, I came late when I wanted to purchase ours. "So we're booked for the first flight next month going immediately to Montenegro. I could have suggested we use your private jet ma'am, but since you want to reduce carbon emissions and an advocate of low carbon emission, I decided against it and waited for the next flight so we'd travel like other people" he thoroughly thoughtfully explained." That's good"" Thank you ma'am"" You're good"" Thank you ma'am"" Keep it up, being thoughtful"" Thank you ma'am" he kept bowing and muttering. He smiled. She was always nice, not just to him but every of her workers. She had saved him from his former boss who fired him because he had failed to get the last limited release Adidas Sneakers. When she saw him slap him, she had been angered and had cancelled the documents she came to his office to sign for their partnership. She had also employed him right then in the presence of hus former boss who stood transfixed at what had happened too."Support Lucas Elizalde, make him the next Governorship flag bearer of the People's Progressive Party, make him the new governor of Montenegro" she added. He bowed.Whoever Lucas was to get on her good books, his life was about to get simpler, he thought to himself.Lucas Elizalde watched with a meek appearance as he observed the members of the People's Progressive Party, walk their way into the boardroom. He felt intimidated and a hesitant expression did not fail to write all over his face. Many dignataries walked in and he noticed how each of them did so with pride and confidence seeping through their shoulders.Their suits were finely cut, perfect definitions of their high societal status. They were the cabals, the leaders. They were the future makers of Montenegro. That was why they had been able to retain power in their political party for 20 years now and counting.Lucas watched as Theodore walked in , with his father, his father in-law walking closely behind him. They took their seats and all the other members of the party present did not fail to mutter at the way Theodore showed off himself with a heavy cologne. He came to where Lucas was , even though there was a chair beside him, Lucas stood and made way by standing up for him to sit do
"Daddyyyyy" Maya screamed as she ran down the stairs to welcome her father, whose car engine she had heard." Welcome back daddy, I missed you" she say hugging him.Lucas took her in his arms and kissed her cheeks." Hope you were good to your daddy today, Maya?"" Of course daddy, I was a good girl through out. I did not disturb her about mummy returning today either. Mummy has to be at her workplace because there are important jobs she has to care of. So I did not ask after her" she innocently added, smiling and showing off her teeth that had started falling off.Lucas carried her he went to his room and smiled. She was one of the reasons he was still in the marriage.Maya was a sweet girl. He had her six years ago, after he and Genevieve's fourth wedding anniversary. He had wanted to leave the marriage then but after she was birthed, be had always endured because he did not want to make her a motherless little girl.He took her to her room and laid her ok the bed. Adjusting his col
Nathaniel opened his refrigerator and grabbed a canned drink from the arrays. He walked over to his study table, sitting down while taking sips from the opened can. His window was opened which gave way to the cool breeze that came into the room at instances. He was going through the court case he has finished preparing. It had being assigned to him by his head at the Elizalde Firm he worked at.Finishing the canned drink, he closed the file and stood up to the side of his door to dispose off the can.On walking back, his gaze caught one of the photos that hung on the wall.It was from his childhood, it was a photo of Morgana from her school graduation. She was also in the other photo frames on his wall but they had taken them together. The one he was staring was the only one of the took alone and he had made it extremely larger than the others, hanging it in the middle of them all.He walked up to where it was and touched her face. Then her lips that curved into a smile in the photo.
EARLIER THAT DAYNathaniel walked down the road as he trekked to his place of work, The Elizalde law firm.Sipping his coffee while carrying his laptop with his other hand in his bag, he couldn't help but think of how Morgana would be most elated when she finally learns that they have an upper hand in the case they were pursuing. He had chosen working at the Elizalde Law Firm not because of how much he was paid but because it belonged to the Montenegro's son in law, in the few months he had worked there after his graduation, he had learnt about many of the illegal cases his boss, Lucas Elizalde did for his father in law and he had evidences of them.If Morgana's case against the governor wasn't enough to put him in jail, he had other cards he could use and sue him. His suit was perfectly cut, though it wasn't of the finest materials, it suited someone of his status who was just finding his feet after graduation, to find for he and Morgana like he always put it.He was
A taxi reversed and started driving towards the entrance of the Canadian Airport. He had been called by a man who was stepping out with his luggage being in his second arm and the other clutching tightly a flower. He entered the taxi and he began to drive."Sir, rain would be falling soon. Should I speed up a little bit so you'd get to your location before it starts falling?" The taxi driver asked." Sure thing, you can buy don't over speed the already set limits" Nathaniel replied. The man chuckled. He must be a law abiding citizen.Nathaniel's heart raced with anticipation of his meeting with Morgana. He had planned it to be a surprise coming to Canada from Montenegro to see her. Well, what could he do anyway if not surprise her. She hadn't answered his calls since she came to Canada. She hadn't spoken to him either. It had always been her hostel roommate that answered the landline phone on her behalf each and anytime he called.Morgana had not yet. Perhaps she was still angry at hi
"Father, are you just going to sit and watch Lucas get nominated as the party's flag bearer?" Theodore bellowed as he followed his father from the Parking lot to their mansion." Harrison will soon be done with his degree, we can postpone the elections. You have the power to. No one can question you. But we can't let that idiot become the new governor, we can't let anyone else be the governor regardless of what party they come from!" He continued. His father turned back and slapt him across the face." I am ashamed of you Theo, ashamed of calling you my son!!" He said, pointing at him." What was with your display at the board meeting? How many times will I have to tell you to control yourself, especially in public. People are watching!! The media houses are looking for what to publish. Why don't you ever understand?" He thundered at him.Theodore kept silent. He had no limp to argue with his father. He wouldn't win. Instead he allowed a beclouded expression take over his face. He wa
"Move faster Claude,is that all you could do?" Genevieve screamed at the man on top of her, trying his hardest to move faster like she had commanded to match her pace.He intensified his speed hoping it would match her desired frequency but it only earned him a slap from her and her pushing him away from her naked body."Did you not take the drugs I bought for you to be taking each time you fucked me? What's with the sluggish thrusts?" She questioned with annoyance written all over her face."I did take them and they keep on messing with my system. It's not my fault your libido is too high" he answered back, regretting why he did as another slap landed across his face." You now have the guts to answer back? Don't forget I made you whom you are Claude. Without me you're nothing. You're my slave, whatever I command you to do should be done without you thinking twice about it" she retorted in an assertive tone." I'm not your slave Genevieve, I am just your partner. Yes, your cheating p
The morning sun was slowly setting and Montenegro sat in his car while his driver drove him off to work."What? How dare he do such a thing without informing us before hand?" He asked the man over the phone as he heard the news, as if he would have answers to all his questions." Reverse the car. Drive me to the Party's house and not the company anymore" he commanded his driver and he followed his orders immediately without delay. On getting to the front of the party house, he saw that other members of the party has gotten the news as well and had all come rushing to the house.Sinclair was seated quietly in the boardroom awaiting their presence, as if he had known that his actions would illicit such response from the other party members."How dare you transfer your shares as the founding father of this party to someone without informing us!!! You acted unilaterally without informing us the other floor members!!!" Montenegro shouted on top of his lungs. He seemed to be the most perso
Morgana's heart was heavy as she walked into the airport. Going to Italy seemed to be the only solution to the guilt she felt. No, that wasn't what she wanted. That was never what she had envisaged her revenge to end up as. It took a different turn because of Lucas' decision. All she had planned, the years and efforts she had wasted hoping to put Genevieve behind bars where she would be a prisoner of her thoughts, of her fall and that of her family's, where she and her father would have no one else to blame for what had befallen them but themselves, it all seemed to be bygones now. Her eyes darted to the screen and the news being announced. "Good evening. Breaking news tonight from Montenegro, a series of shocking revelations and tragic events have captivated both national and international audiences, making waves across the internet. The controversy began with the arrest of Theodore Montenegro, the former governor of Montenegro, whose recent trial took an unexpected turn.
"This is your fall Genevieve, whether you like it or not. This is your fall" Morgana muttered as she continued to struggle with her in the locked car, using all her might regardless of the knife that had been driven to her belly to reach out to the car controls to open the car doors."I will never fall, especially not at your hands. I will keep my head up high. I will keep rising. I will never fall!!!" Genevieve continued screaming as they struggled with each other.Successfully unlocking the cars doors, Morgana stepped out trying to run away amidst the stab wound in her belly.Nathaniel came rushing to where she was, pushing Genevieve who tried to assault her the more right into the car.Lucas had arrived and on coming down from his car to behold the stab wound on the already weak Morgana, he took the driver's seat of the car Genevieve had been pushed into.Nathaniel carried Morgana to the opposite lane and tried calling an ambulance while awaiting the arrival of the police he had c
"Miss Genevieve, I will do you the favor of walking you out of the classroom ma'am. Consider it my last form of respect to you who was once the head of the school's Parent's Teachers Association" Morgana said and motioned Genevieve to the door but she didn't seem to budge, still drowned in thoughts of what she had said to her earlier." Ma'am, I'll plead with you to stay outside now. I wouldn't want my guests to be frightened when the police come for you" Morgana sought to add and it seemed as if her last sentence struck a chord with Genevieve as she began to walk away, while she, followed her, leading her to the door." Say, why don't you follow me to the crime scene Morgana? Wouldn't you want to pay your last respects to your parents as well? I heard you never found their body. That's so much you could do yet brag so loudly and vainly" Genevieve said to her as they reached outside, finally finding her voice in the privacy engulfing the both of them at the passage way.Morgana batted
Morgana was discussing with some parents when she noticed Genevieve walking towards her. It was a rare sight considering the face that she had been declared wanted by the police. Standing up to meet her, Morgana couldn't help but taunt her. It was her downfall she had come for. The downfall of the driver that had hit her mother."Mrs Genevieve, or is it Miss? I do not know what title to refer you by, the news about the divorce is spattered all over the internet"Genevieve slapt her immediately the words came from her mouth. The women sitting down behind them gasped. Torn on what to do at Genevieve's presence, considering that she had been a member of their club yet now wanted for heinous crimes.Morgana held her cheeks, holding back her anger." Ma'am, violence isn't allowed in the school. Have you forgotten? Ohh, I almost forgot. You're not a parent again and it's understandable that you might not recall some of the school rules"Angered by he utterance, again Genevieve landed a sl
Montenegro's face twisted with anger as he grabbed his daughter by the arm, dragging her roughly toward the basement. She stumbled, trying to keep up, tears streaming down her face."Please let me go father, I promise to become better from now on" she pleaded. "How many times do I have to tell you to behave in front of the press Genevieve? You're supposed to act properly so you'd be loved by all. So you'd steal attention. So you'd be the talk of the internet for weeks to come!!!" he shouted, his voice echoing through the house."Dad, please, I'm sorry!" she cried, her voice breaking with fear. "I promise I'll do better, please don't lock me up again!"Her mother rushed forward with panic in her eyes. "Honey, please, let her go!" she begged. "She's just a child! You locked her up for days already, please have mercy! You can't keep locking her up each time she all's short of your expectations. She's human"He turned on his wife, furiously "Stay out of this!" he bellowed, raising his h
The house had a shabby look and still had the white table clothes that had been used to cover the properties.Everywhere was dusty as well.Nathaniel watched a dog come in. It might have come in from the neighbors houses as he left the gate open.He let it be. Atleast it was going to keep him company. He walked over to a carton and began to unbox it. It had some of their family portraits. They were mostly of him and his mother and only few had his father in it with them.It tucked at his heart. He couldn't blame only his mother for running away and abandoning him when he was little. He had witnessed how she was always abused by her husband, perhaps she had left them hoping that it would be the right decision to make.He couldn't take it out on her. She took the decision for her life and he would advice any woman in her shoes to take such decisions too, if they had been in his mother's sort of marriage.A marriage that had the husband always abusing and neglecting his wife. With his
The flickering light of the single lit candle cast long, wavering shadows on the walls of their small home. Now that he was thinking about it, he couldn't help but wonder why they had lived in such a shabby humble place while the new family of his father's he met lived in a mansion. Their house seemed old, so it meant that his father had always been rich since tie immemorial but left them to live in a humble home and environment. His mom had sat by the wooden table, the one he was currently staring at, and her fingers had nervously traced the grain of the wood. Her heart was heavy, burdened by the silence and the secrets that had settled between her and her husband. He recalled his father, Dante entering the house, his tall frame blocking the light momentarily. He had the air of a man who was always in a hurry, always preoccupied with something just beyond reach. His mom took a deep breath, mustering the courage to confront him. "Dante" she began softly, "this is getting too much,
The Banner that bore the People's Progressive Party title on top of the party house had been removed. A new banner for a start up company was being used to replace it.In a short while everything about the PPP had been erased, even their party office sold out.Lucas watched as the Carpenters hammered the new name on, while some repainted the walls giving it a whole new vibe."Governor, you don't need to worry. I'm sure nothing would be found on you. You'd still remain the governor of Montenegro after the probe" his assistant tried to console him.His former assistant rather. He had switched places. He had resigned not wanting to work for the government again. But he had come to him to exchange pleasantries after he saw him in front of the Party house.Lucas knew that he was just trying to condole with him.He was sure he wouldn't be found innocent. He carried out alot of bad deeds on of his father in-law's orders. It had already been more than a week his probe started and no feedback
Genevieve listened on as her father made a call to Dante. He was the last escape route they had and she was sure he would find a way to sneak them out of the house and the country without the police finding out.He was skilled in doing such, that is why her father had taken him in as his cartel business partner."He said we should get ready. Just pack a few things. We'd leave by midnight" her father muttered to her before dropping his phone on the table. She wanted to say something to him but she was interrupted by the gunshots they heard from the gate."They're here" she announced to her father and began running away. Her father stood up and took to his heels, following her as well. The both of them had been declared wanted. Not just for one crime nor for their embezzlement and stashed slash funds, the new accusation that came up and had Theodore's voice as the testimony was a big factor too and they couldn't save themselves from it. The evidences we're glaringly clear. She ran to th
