“No one would be able you discover you.” Her Father assured. “As long as you do all I say. Everything would be alright.”
Luna rolled her eyes, as if! Her father had always wanted her to become a pure werewolf even though she wasn’t. He was a great liar that covers up for her when others became suspicious. As the most respectful beta daughter in the pack, she should be ongoing, generous, friendly and kind. She was the opposite of that, she loved being alone in order to hide her precious secret. Having a friend was a way of show casting her powers, a friend will get to know who she was. She didn’t want to take that risks. Assy was her only friend who knew all of her secrets and he kept them all to himself, without telling anyone.
“Sure Father, on your command.”
Bartram smiled at her, “Get up, and let’s go find your mate.”
He hurried away from her towards her door. Luna stood up immediately and rushed after him.
“How are you so sure you will find my mate? Not that I even needed one.”
“Every wolf needs one.” He retorted. “Including you, you might be half wolf but there is a wolf in you.”
“The she-wolf does not speak to me; she hides herself away from me. Father, I don’t think I have a wolf within me, maybe I am more a vampire than a wolf.”
Bartram paused to stare at her, his eyes held a look of curiosity and mischief. He walked over to her; she stood her ground until they were nose to nose. Eye to eye, none was blinking. Luna was not going to let him tell her what to do, she knows herself better than he does.
“Have you encountered someone and your mind whispers ‘Mate’?” He questioned.
“What is that supposed to mean?” Luna asked, grumbling. “I haven’t heard it; my mind hasn’t whispered to me yet.”
Bartram stepped away from her, a smug smile on his face. Luna glared her him as she studied his expression, she noticed that he was glad it hasn’t happened yet.
“That is so great, you haven’t encountered your mate yet. Maybe tonight.”
Tonight? Was she going to find her mate? She hated this whole mating stuff, she could not believe someone was going to be mated to a random person you know nothing about. She don’t know how she was going to react if a random person walk up to her and claim to be her mate, she was going to scream at his face and maybe show him that she has claws.
Bartram turned around and headed out, she trailed behind him, glancing round as he opened the front door. Her heart began racing as she stepped out of her house, the house she had always hid in and refused to come out. Her father was walking towards the festival while she slowly clutched to his long jacket like a scary cat. He looked back at her and gave her an encouraging smile only to receive a glare in return.
“Luna, it is just an hour and the clock is already tickling.”
Luna looked down to the floor, she slowly raised her head back up to stare at him. Her palm was already getting sweaty, she was glad it wasn’t in the morning the festival was taking place. She looked up and glanced at the moon which seemed to be shinning down on her.
“I wish I can make the time go faster.”
Bartram giggled. “Here we are, stop holding on to my jacket, everyone is watching.”
At the mention of everyone, Luna released her father in a flash, almost losing balance. She glanced around the place, they were in front of a large table with a lot of foods on it. Red meats were the most food that were kept on the table. Luna almost choked just looking at meat, she knew they were going to make her eat it.
‘Calm down Luna, it is just meat and act like you love it.’ She assured herself.
Luna forced a smile, she watched the people at the table discuss. She recognized most of them, the one who was eating a red meat like her life depended on it was none other than Adrian’s sister. “This is Luna, my daughter, she would be joining us for dinner tonight. She hadn’t been so well and due to her late night practice and trainings, she doesn’t come out that much.” Her Father lied.
Luna eyes widened as she secret glared at him from the corner of her eyes, with a huge smile on her face.
‘This conversation is annoying, I hope my reaction isn’t showing it?’
She silently prayed they don’t notice how fake her smile was, she hoped she was able to keep her face straight.
“Haven’t seen you before, you look like a goddess.” Adrian’s sister complemented.
“Phoebe that is not a proper way to welcome someone.’ Alpha Dean said.
Alpha Dean was Adrian’s father and he had almost the same look on his face like Adrian’s. Luna smiled at him and forced her lips to move.
“I am so glad to finally hang out here for once.”
“That is great.”
“You can have a seat.”
“Sit right next to me.” Phoebe said.
Luna glanced back at her father who nodded at her, she walked over to Phoebe. She took the seat, this time the smile on her face was gradually fading.
“Have you find your mate yet?” Phoebe questioned immediately Luna sat down.
“Nope, hoping to find the idiot tonight.” She responded.
“Idiot?” Phoebe questioned looking amused. “I wonder who the idiot is.”
Luna picked up a plate, a knife and went ahead to dish a food out for herself. Phoebe beat her to it, Phoebe giggled as she picked up all the red meats her hand could reach and placed them all on Luna’s plate. Luna stared at her and back at the food bewildered, Phoebe had just put the thing she doesn’t like, and Luna clenched her fingers.
“You must eat a lot of red meat, it will help you find a mate quicker. Oh, you can’t even find a mate yet when you don’t come out.”
Luna smiled, I love red meats, thank you.” But in her insides her heart was racing behind her rip cage. It was either escaping this table or suffocate while trying to eat what she does not like.
Luna picked up the knife and slowly began to chop the meat, she wished Phoebe could just leave the table. She would have enough time to get away from the table. Now she only needed a plan to escape, she could hear Phoebe talking, going on and on. She was only nodding to what Phoebe was saying.
“My brother also hasn’t found his mate and the coronation is getting closer. You also haven’t found your mate; don’t you think it is a coincidence?”
“I don’t.” Luna said, looking at the girl who was already sounding like her father.
“Beta Bartram had such a beautiful goddess and hid her all along.” Phoebe grunted sighing. “He only speaks about you but don’t worry you got me and you will never be lonely.”
Luna was quiet, she wondered why Phoebe thinks she was lonely and it seemed everyone was thinking she was going to be mated to Adrian. The way Phoebe speaks shows it, Luna silently swallowed a groan. She hadn’t even met the Adrian everyone was talking about, she had only seen him from far away and never came across him. Why would she? When she was always in her room or at the ocean.
“I am not lonely, I have a lot of friends.” Luna lied.
“Then why do you stay mostly indoors?”
“I do come out, to important gatherings like this one. Everyone knows I am the Beta’s daughter.”
“Yes, we all do.”
Luna placed the knife back on the table, she glanced around the table. Everyone were discussing in different ground, she tried to catch the glimpse of her father. He was sitting at the table end with the alphas and laughing his hearts out. She smiled, this was a great opportunity to escape, he was too busy to notice and by the time he does. She was already gone.
“You don’t want to eat?” Phoebe questioned.
Luna nodded. “I ate a lot. I’m full, no one seems to be my mate here. I will have to leave.” She stood up, “It is nice meeting you Phoebe.”
“Can’t you wait for my brother to arrive?” She asked. Not giving Luna time to respond, she began speaking again in a matter-of-fact tone. “He went for a bath and would be here soon.” She closed her eyes and winked at Luna. “Who knows you guys might be mates.”
Luna smiled. “He can’t be my mate, you really want me as a sister-in-law. Don’t you?”
Phoebe smiled brightly. “Of course, you are far better than the bitch who is trying to force herself on my brother.”
Wait! There was a bitch? Luna didn’t have time to ask who the bitch was because when she turned to look at her father, he was looking at her.
“I have to go now, we will see some other time.” She assured. “Maybe.” She quickly added, unsure if they might cross paths again.
“That is understood, can I come to visit you tomorrow?”
Luna did not know what to say to that, she answered with a smile. Turned around a fled, she grabbed hold of the hem of her dress and pouted. She wondered why Phoebe kept on mentioning her brother, was Adrian that good that her father also wants her to get mated to him? Luna was sure that if she wasn’t able to find her mate, her Dad was going to get her mated to Adrian the traditional way. She smiled as she ran in the woods towards her favorite lake, she was going to be free at least without anyone watching.
“Why are you out without drying off your body?” He stared at her before grabbing a shirt that was hanging on the hanger, he hurriedly put it on. He had just finished bathing, his hair was still dripping wet. The atmosphere was warm, all thanks to the fire. He sniffed in the air, there was something mixed with the air and he could read that scent. He sniffed again and rubbed his nose. He had been perceiving that scent since he was in shower, he tried to ignore it but the scent was stronger and alluring. He had to find it, his wolf was walking to and fro inside him, trying to come out but Adrian was not going to let him out. The scent had made him jump out of shower and get dressed without drying his body. “I have to go Mother it is important.” He answered. Before his mother could speak, he rushed out. She stared at him, a cloth in her hand until he was out of sight. She had picked a cloth for him to wear for the festival but he had took a shirt and ran out like something was botherin
Falling into the water, forgetting that she was just lying beside the ocean. Luna sank into the water, her long dress pulling her down even further. She stretched her hands up and pushed herself up. She swam up to the surface, and she glanced around the place immediately after her head left the water. Her hand moved to her hair, grabbing it and wrapping it in a messy bun. "Assy," she repeated. She kept glancing around before moving towards the land. She wasn't hearing things; that voice looked familiar, and only Assy had always said those words. She was about to reach the land when she felt something pulling at her dress. She glanced back at the dress only to see it stuck between tree roots in the water. Without thinking, she pulled the dress with so much force. The hem of the dress tore away, and she was free. She held up her gown and stepped into the land. Immediately after her feet touched the sand, she began running towards the woods where she had heard the voice. Her heart was
Adrian had been searching endlessly for the scent and the goddess his sister had spoken about. Her name was Luna. What a nice name she had! He had not expected to scent his mate before the mating season; he had thought he was different from the rest of the other crowned alphas, who found their mates pretty fast. His mate had a nice scent; the scent had been unbearable, but now he could not smell any bit of it. The scent was gone, and he wondered where she had gone. He was in the woods now, walking towards a tree. He stopped. His wolf was growling lowly inside him, blaming him for missing the chance of getting their mate. Adrian glared at it; he knew the wolf was only trying to find their mate, like he was too. He wanted to know what she looked like; he wanted to mark her. Adrian cursed under his breath. What if she turned out not to be his mate? His wolf was great at perceiving, and the urge he had was too overwhelming to be ignored. She was his mate, alright. He glanced around the
Bartram glanced around the place, checking for anyone. He could not find the person his daughter was talking about."Luna, I can’t find anyone there.""Father…""You found him; that is what you said.""Yes, he was here."Luna watched the expression on her father’s face change to one of concern. She knew that with the way he was looking at her, he probably didn’t believe her."We have to leave now." Bartram urged. "I don’t want you to stay here any longer."Luna stepped closer to him. "You don’t believe me, do you?""I never said that." He defended. "We will talk about this later when we get to the pack.""Father…""You shouldn’t have come here. This is the border between werewolves and vampires.""I was…""No arguments; come with me."He grabbed her hand and pulled her along with him. Luna did not try to struggle. She tried to keep up with his pace as she glanced over her shoulders. She had not hallucinated him; she had touched him. She felt his skin and spoke to him; he was real. Rig
Luna glanced at her father. "He can’t be my mate." "Luna." He gave her a signal to keep quiet. "This is not possible." She whispered. "I can’t have two mates." Her father shot her a grin. "That means the probability that you imagined your first mate is high." He leaned in and whispered into her ear. "Now. Should I say I told you so?" No, you can’t; Ashford is real." Adrian watched the two dark heads argue; he could not hear what they were saying because they were talking so low, and the only sound he was hearing was like a bee buzz. Bartram was saying something, and his daughter was not agreeing to it. "You can’t say I imagined Ashford." Bartram ignored her words and placed a gentle arm on her shoulder. "This is the opportunity you have been waiting for, Luna. To be among the pack. To feel among them since you are Adrian’s mate. You will be Luna, and you are going to be accepted. Isn’t that what you always wanted?" "That’s what I want. Fine, but I am not going to throw Ashford
"Father doesn't want Adrian to make decisions just yet until he finds his mate. And now he already did," she answered. They stepped into a dark passageway, and Phoebe walked to the wall, turning on the light. Luna glanced around as Phoebe continued to lead the way. The house seemed to come back to life as they walked into it. "Do you want to see Adrian's room?" Phoebe asked. "No..." Phoebe pulled her away, cutting off her words, and dragged her along with her. Luna let herself be dragged as they were running into a tight passageway. It was dark, and Luna could barely see anything. She wondered why Adrian's room was going to be in such a place. Phoebe came to a halt when they reached the front of a large door. Luna glanced around the place and then at the door. "Here we are," Phoebe announced. "Adrian's room." Luna raised her brows. "Okay?" "We leave." "Excuse me?" "We leave," Phoebe repeated. "You brought me here so we could look at a door and leave?" "Yes and no. Adrian let
"You can't ask me to leave." Evelyn hushed. "You have no right to say that to me. Yes. Your Father was a pathetic loser, always supporting you when you did the wrong thing. That was what led him to his death, ignorance."Ashford's eyes turned dark; his father had been the only one who understood him and took good care of him. His father had listened to all he had to say and let him do whatever he wanted as long as it made him happy."He was better than you, even though you call him a pathetic loser."She smiled. "I know that, right?""What do you mean?" Ashford asked, his confusion evident. He had just said she was not as good as his father, and he agreed to it without saying a word about it."I agree with you; he was better than me, but I am smarter than him." She said."No. He was something you will never be.""No matter what you say, you are still going to get married to Diana. I don't care if you have found your soul mate or not. You still have to marry the woman I chose for you,
"You really know nothing about the werewolf traditions," Phoebe stated, glancing at Luna from head to toe.Luna gulped down nothing. Phoebe was really acting smart, as she had bragged. After scanning and visiting every room in the building, Phoebe decided to stay at the building's top and watch the view. She began talking about the traditions of werewolves, and Luna was only nodding to what she was saying. Until she finally noticed, Luna might not have known what she was talking about."Maybe. It's just a tradition; I don't usually keep those things in mind, and my father is always too busy to tell me all of it.""I was only kidding!" Phoebe laughed. "A werewolf has to know about all the traditions, and the marking season is near. You are going to be marked by my brother."Luna cringed at the word. She hated the fact that she was marked, and now that she had found Adrian to be her mate, she was going to be marked. She had found Ashford, and he said he wasn't going to mark her. She had
Alpha Dean's stern voice echoed through the clearing, his words laced with authority. "Your matebrought at threat to our pack, even though she fixed everything. She can't change the fact that she is still a danger to this pack. Hybrids are forbidden, and I am already doing her a favor by sparing her the dungeon," he declared.Ashford instinctively pulled Luna closer, shielding her with his protective embrace. "No one is taking her to the dungeon. If you all don't want her, I can take her," he asserted, his voice firm with conviction."Fine," Alpha Dean conceded, his tone relenting slightly. "As long as she is far away from this pack, I have no problem with it."Luna's eyes welled with tears, her vision blurring as Alpha Dean's harsh words pierced her heart. The possibility of leaving her father and venturing into the unknown was daunting."Dean, let's think this through. You can't send her to the dungeon, and you also can't cast her away," Bartram pleaded, his voice trembling with desp
Monsell peered at her. "Do we have a deal?""Luna glanced at the staff and then looked at Adrian, who was shaking his head and asking her not to hand the staff over to him. Luna stared at Monsell; if she refused to give him the staff, he was going to keep on using Ashford's body.Giving him the staff was going to be a waste; Ashford won't want her handing the staff to him."We have no deal; I am not giving you the staff, but you are letting go of him."Monsell's lips curled up into a sinister smile. ",Already making the wrong decision?"Luna's brows furrowed at him, and she gripped tightly to the staff until her knuckles turned white."I have always made the right decision; you are going to let go of him."Luna lunged at Monsell, attacking him with a kick. He dove away with a wide grin on his face. Luna realized that if she fought Monsell, she was only hurting Ashford's body. She paused, looking at Monsell as he stood next to her. An idea popped into her head."You want the staff, don'
Ashford led the way towards the pack; Luna was by his side while Bartram and Ashford were walking behind them. Luna clutched tightly to her staff, even though they were heading to the pack to stop Monsell. Luna felt uneasy; the man was out there using her powers, and he even shifted his shape to look like her.She promised herself to get rid of him as soon as possible. Soon they were standing in between the borders. The border between Cruster Toon and Lunar Crest There were several dead bodies laying on the floor. Guilt gnawed at Luna's conscience as she stared at the lifeless bodies. The weight of responsibility hung heavy on her shoulders, her heart burdened by the knowledge that their deaths were a consequence of her existence. If she hadn't been born or if she had been killed alongside her mother, Everyone would be safe; no one would be dead. The snarling of the creatures could be heard, followed by the growling of a wolf. The battle seems hard, and Luna couldn't wait for it to sto
"What do we do?" Luna questioned. "We have to find something that could harm Monsell. The last time I tried to hurt him, I couldn't hurt him. He placed a metal bar in my arm, and I am sure he might have something hidden on me."Ashford glanced at her, and he placed a hand on her hand. "Calm down; we will be fine, I promise."She offered him a warm smile, even though her smile was shaking. She placed her head on his; they were taking a ride to the pack. It was far away, and they didn't want to run all the way. The Monsells had horses, and when they found the horses, the horses were terrified. Thanks to Luna, the horses were able to let them take them. They were sitting in the carriage, and Neon and Bartarm were sitting on a horse outside the carriage. Luna and Bartram were left to stay inside, Luna's hands trembling as she clutched the edges of her seat during the ride and her eyes darting anxiously over the passing scenery. Ashford wondered what was going on in her mind."What if I can
Ashford stared at her as she raised the sword to slit his head with it. Just when he thought she was going to kill him with her sword, she paused and bent to his height. Ashford stared at her weakly, and he placed his hand on the injury. He had to heal, think of something else to do to her, and save himself from her."You tried to kill yourself just to talk to me?" Luna muttered. "I guess I will have to listen to you."Ashford's eyes lit up amidst the pain he felt around his body. He nodded his head at her and coughed out, placing his hand on his mouth. He wiped blood off his face."Thank you, Luna," he replied."Why do you call me Luna?""That's your name; don't tell me you forgot."Luna's hands tightened around the sword's hilt, and her eyes narrowed into slits. 'Are you ready to go straight to the point?' she hissed, her voice laced with barely contained fury."I am." He answered. "I'm Ashford, your first mate.""Go on, what made you think I would believe that you are not Monsell bu
Monsell took a step forward, with Luna holding his hand."We will throw them in the dungeon; that is exactly what we would do." Monsell said.Luna's lips curled up into an evil smile. "Let's get them!"Monsell grinned and removed her hands from his; he broke the metal he had placed on her wrist. He stepped backward."I would handle the rest of the stuff; get rid of them." He ordered.Luna nodded. "Sure."Monsell turned around and began walking away. Ashford couldn't let him leave like that. Ashford hurried after him, catching him by the hand and throwing a punch at his face. Just as Ashford was about to throw another punch, a hand held his wrist. He raised his head to look at who was holding him; it was Luna. There was no way Ashford was going to hurt Luna; she had no idea what she was doing. She pulled Ashford's hand away and kicked him in the stomach. The impact hit him, making him fall to his knees. Monsell chuckled and walked away, leaving Luna with them.Ashford scrambled to his f
"Now, start the initiation." Monsell repeated. "We have to get her on our side before anyone comes for her.""You are going to regret this!" Luna yelled.Monsell smirked at her. "Not really; you will belong to the Hybire soon."Everyone in the room stood to their feet, reciting a quote. The quote was so old that it was affecting Luna's ears. She covered her ears and began screaming; her ears began bleeding, and blood began streaming down her face. She screamed in pain as memories filled her head, starting from the time that he met her father to the time that she was growing up.Soon, the memories of when she met her mother began to fade away. She tried to grab hold of her mother, but everything disappeared. The only thing she could see was Monsell; he was smiling at her and taking her hand. The memories of when she was with Assy all faded away. Assy became Monsell, and he was in every scene that he was in. He was smiling at her and taking her hand, helping her with everything.Luna's e
"Whatever you want to do to me would never work." Luna snarled at the man in front of her. "You think taking my blood and using it to your own benefit is going to work as you thought? My mate is going to find you! And end you!"A slap hit her face, and the impact made her face move to the side. The chain gripped her hand tightly as she fell to her knees. Liquid filled her mouth, and when she spit it out, it was blood.Monsell bent to her height and cupped her face in her hands. His lips curled into a smile, and he pulled off his coat hat, revealing his face. Luna's eyes widened; his face wasn't what she thought it was going to be. His eyes were bright green, his hair was long and curly, and his jaw was chiseled. He was handsome, and Luna hated to admit it. He had a scar in between his eye sockets."You should learn to speak to me politely; do I look like a monster?" Monsell asked. "Your mate didn't try to save you the last time I took his sister, but your best friend appeared. He tried
Luna's eyes opened in the dim, dark room; she was chained to a wall. She glanced around the room, trying to check where she was. She tried to get away from the wall, but it was impossible. She tried to use her power, but it was of no use. She glanced around the room, trying to remember where she was and why she was in the cell. She had been with Ashford and the rest outside, and she had killed all the creatures. Someone had knocked her out and brought her here; she couldn't remember anyone's face. There was a black smoke around them when she was knocked out."Ashford?" She called out. "Are you there?"There was no response. She tried to free herself again, but she suddenly felt weak. Weaker than she had ever felt, her body hurt as she tried again."Ashford?" She called again. She slapped herself for thinking that Ashford was near her. If he were, he wouldn't let her be chained to the wall like a slave. He couldn't do it, and then it hit her. She had been kidnapped by someone, and the o
