Cordelia Blackwell
I don’t understand why this man had such an effect on me. Throughout my twenty years of life, or rather nineteen if we’re being practical, no man has had this effect on me. “You’re funny.” He said with a small smirk.“I wasn’t trying to be.” I retorted with a raised eyebrow. I couldn’t let him intimidate me, nor could I let him know the way he affected me.He inched closer to my face, “You should watch out how you talk to me.” I didn’t like his threatening tone.“And you should watch out who you’re talking to.” I challenged back. We stared at each other’s eyes, I think he was waiting for me to relent first, but I never would. I have more of a backbone than that. The real problem was, the longer I stared at his dark brown eyes, I felt like I was being sucked in. They were deep, penetrating, and I could now understand the reputation he had with women.“I believe there’s no need for this aggressiveness.” Morgana stepped in between the two of us, pulling me back from him slightly.I was grateful. The closeness made my magic sizzle under my skin, like it wanted to come out. According to my experience, this is never a good thing.“Your sister needs our help, and Cordelia is the best to help her.” Morgana said in her usual calm and soothing tone.Cadell stepped back as well, finally breaking eye contact, and I felt myself able to breathe again. “You were saying she’s possessed.” He started with a business tone.I nodded my head, “Yes, there’s a spirit residing in her body and keeping her wolf shackled inside.” I moved closer to Sheila’s unconscious body. “The process of possession is usually a long one, and Sheila had been through the stages.”“And how do you get it out of her?” He asked, stepping closer to me again; With every breath I took, his cologne engulfed my senses, making me slightly dizzy.“The spirit belongs to a witch, Jeanette McConnell.” I turned to him with disgust in my eyes, “Of course, we all know you’ve angered plenty of those, but Jeanette is an old one, I believe she’s way before your time.”I was still trying to find a definite answer to his question, then I remembered something I once read in an old grimoire. “If we’re lucky, then Jeanette’s body will be in Midwick Cemetery. I will have to dig Jeanette out, burn her bones with the blue flame spell, then put the ashes in the Soul Cleansing Potion.”“Are you saying my sister needs to drink the ashes of a dead witch?” He seemed disgruntled by the idea.I shrugged my shoulders, “It’s your best option.” I averted my eyes to Morgana for confirmation and she nodded.“I will begin with the potion, but you know it will need you to…” She trailed off.I nodded my head, “I understand, start on it, and by the time I come back, I’m sure I’ll be able to use some of it.”“Some of what?” He asked with narrowed suspicious eyes.“Black Magic.” Morgana answered, “The Cleansing spell takes days to be ready, Earth Magic can’t quicken the process.”“Well, since this was cleared, I’ll be heading out now.” I announced, striding out of the room. As I reached the door, I felt a strong grip on my arm, halting my movement. And something like electricity shot up my arm. I felt goosebumps rise on my body and a shiver ran down my spine.I don’t know where that was coming from, but I really disliked it.I turned around, and Cadell was staring down at me, “I’ll come with you.” He said with a tone of finality.I snatched my arm out of his hold, “I’m not one of your wolves, you know? Try and show some manners. Geez, what happened to men?” I shook my head and left the room.Against my best wishes, he still followed me. I headed downstairs, the party was still in full swing, and I passed by the various people around. Most of them knew who I was, and some didn’t hide the fact that they didn’t like me all that much. However, it was easy to notice their surprise and shock when they saw the Alpha following me. He made a show of putting his hand on the small of my back, making it look like we were friends. We weren’t. We can never be.Once we were out of the mansion, he grabbed my arm again, “We will take my car.” He ordered.I don’t know who died and made him the boss of me? What gave him the right to order me around? It made me furious, but again, I shouldn’t be surprised. Cain Cadell was known to treat witches like servants, and when they didn’t do his beddings, he killed them. Usually, in the most gruesome ways ever.I just want this night to be over with. I thought to myself, then said, “Just bring a shovel.”He gave me a Cheshire grin and nodded his head. The car ride was engulfed in a tense silence. He gave me a side glance, as we neared the cemetery, “How long have you lived in Midwick?” He asked out of the blue.“A year.” I know my reply was snipped, but I didn’t want to open the door for a conversation. He hummed but didn’t say anything. I got the feeling that he wanted to, though. He kept stealing glances my way as he drove, which only made me uncomfortable for some reason. I got to the point of fidgeting in my seat.Once the car came to a stop, I felt relief wash over me and I couldn’t get out of there faster. “Let’s split to cover more areas.” I told him as we stood in front of the huge metal gates. The vast land of tombstones and faceless statues laid before my eyes. The night had a cold chilly air, and I felt myself shiver. This place gave me a sense of dread. Suddenly, my mind was attacked by several images of darkness, dirt, and me struggling breathlessly, clawing my way out of the coffin I was placed in.“You sure you can handle going in there alone?” He asked with a raised eyebrow, no hint of concern in his tone.I quickly put on my strongest face, and scoffed, “Just find her grave. If she’s a witch, she’ll have a tombstone with her name. Jeanette McConnel.” I stressed her name out. With that I hurriedly left him, walking through the several tombstones and trying to diminish my memories. After all, I’ve already been dead once, there’s no need to frit, right?Cordelia BlackwellI stared at the tombstone of Jeanette McConnel, and I read the epitaph engraved on the stone. “A loving mother and a precious servant of nature.” My eyes narrowed when I saw the date of her death, “1960.”“You found her?” His voice startled me.“Give me a heart attack, why don’t you?” I shook my head then turned back to the grave, “Yes, here lies Jeanette McConnel.” I paused for a second, “You know, this spirit didn’t just up and possess your sister. There must be another witch here, a living one, who’s used her. You better try and figure out who could be behind this, because this won’t be the end of it.”He tilted his head to the side, “To become what I am, I had to make a couple of enemies.” He said it like it was the most obvious thing in the world.“More like a couple of hundred, but who's counting?” I mumbled under my breath, then shook my head, “My point is, the witch who did this must be extremely powerful. She opened a portal to the other side, it isn’t an ea
Cain Cadell This wasn't what I wanted when I thought about having a mate. A woman who's sarcastic, rude, and shows no respect to me. How she spoke to Daniel… It really got on my nerves. Being all friendly and nice, smiling at him like they were friends. So far, she didn't smile at me, not even once. "I believe you should show me some respect, darling." I gritted out in a tone that was more threatening than I had intended. "It's not my fault that you're used to people bending backward to satisfy you." Her voice raised slightly higher and she looked at me with fire in her eyes. I stumped towards her, my steps heavy on the ground. "If you think you'll get away with this…" Daniel's voice interrupted the warning I was about to give her. "Alpha." I gave Cordelia one last glare then stepped away from her. "Could you also get me a clean box or a bottle or something?" She asked Daniel, ignoring my presence. "I need something to contain the ashes." She flashed him a smile then leaned next
Cordelia Blackwell Everything was a mess. I ran after Cadell and Daniel into the mansion, but they were way faster than me in my short legs and high heels. "How the fuck did that happen?" I heard Cadell yell loudly at the top of the stairs. I ran all the way up, my mind finally forming an idea of what could have happened, and my blood ran cold. The worst case scenario was that Sheila broke free and attacked Morgana. I dashed into the room, almost breathless. And I found Morgana sitting on the floor cradling a man's head into her lap. I couldn't see Sheila anywhere. Morgana looked up with tearful eyes, "It was a sudden surge of power." She seemed to be answering Cadell's question which he must have asked before I arrived, "She broke free, grabbed the glass of water on the nightstand, broke it, then stabbed him with it." "Who's that? Why did he get in here?" I asked stepping next to Morgana to assess the man's injury. "This is John Burke, Sheila's husband and mate." Daniel answer
People are connected to memories, and memories conjure feelings. And no matter how much I try, the mention of my biological mother can only bring loath, sorrow, hate, and despite my best effort, fear. I felt my blood run cold inside my veins. The last thing I ever wanted was to get entangled back into the web Fiona weaved. "And why would your mother work with my enemy?" Cadell asked the million dollar question. He turned to Morgana with fury, "Shouldn't you hold your witches in a tighter grip?" "Fiona isn't part of our coven, not anymore." Morgana explained, and the hint of sadness was still there. Out of everyone, Morgana took the loss of Fiona the hardest. According to her, Fiona had once been a good sister, a great witch, and a precious servant of nature. I never met the Fiona Morgana knew. The Fiona I knew was cold, distant, with a constant sneer on her face. "She was banished by the Council of Magic about four years ago." I stepped in, "The only power she holds is her knowled
Cordelia BlackwellI didn't argue with Alpha Cadell when he urged me out of his dungeon. I didn't complain when his hand was firmly placed on the small of my back, nor did I stop him when he led me to a bedroom with a huge king size bed. When someone puts my name and the word death in one complete sentence, I freak out. My eyes weren't focused as my mind insisted on conjuring memories of darkness, dirt, and me clawing to get out of a tiny box. I still remember the feeling of sheer terror as I screamed at the top of my lungs to get out. The feeling of a soft touch coming from a calloused hand pulled me out of that dark memory lane. I was brought back to the present with the sight of Alpha Cadell kneeling before me and holding my face as if I was a china doll.My eyes remained on his, I felt something strange working its way up from inside me, and my magic sizzled under my skin. His eyes darted slowly towards my lips before looking up again. Tension cackled in the air, and my heart
"What on earth are you doing here?" I jumped off the bed, almost falling on my butt as I stumbled backward. He didn't even twitch, his smirk only grew, "I came to see you, darling." "In my bedroom?" I exclaimed horrified, "Seriously, you have issues." I shook my head in exasperation. He got off the bed, and walked towards me with eyes full of mischief. "I told you not to leave the mansion. It was a direct order that you broke." With every word he took a step closer towards me. "I think you should be punished." He was standing so close, I could feel the heat radiating from his body, and I looked up to meet his eyes. I wanted to affirm my strength, but in reality I didn't have any. My breath hitched slightly, his words stirring this feeling in me. I almost wanted to know how he would decide to punish me. "You're not the boss of me." My words came shaky and I was ashamed of how weak I sounded. My heart skipped a beat as I remembered how we were so close to kissing only a few hours
Cordelia Blackwell I stood like the exact definition of a dumb blonde staring unblinkingly at Cain Cadell as he threatened the one person I wanted to keep safe. I had so many questions; plenty of snarky remarks and retorts that could have sufficed. But I knew better than to poke the bear. Or for the sake of the context, the wolf. "I'll give you a day, two at most, and you better tell me your choice." With that he strode out of the room, leaving his threat hanging in the air. It didn't make sense that he knew what Morgana had done, much less that he believed I was his mate. How did that happen? Do the Gods hate me enough to pair me with a werewolf? It's like there was a universal conspiracy to make my life a living hell.I know all too well what it means to be a werewolf mate. I have read about it several times. A bond that is unbreakable once initiated, and very unshakable. In theory, it sounded nice. If between two werewolves, then it is nice. But I'm not a wolf, I'm a witch. H
Cordelia BlackwellI hate him so much right now. "Tell me the terms of the deal first." He raised an eyebrow at me, "It's simple. You will be my mate. I'm sure you understand what that means." "Being your mate means sleeping with you, and I don't consent to that." I crossed my arms over my chest. "And I will not force you, but I will convince you." He had this annoying, beautiful, cocky smile that I wanted to slap off his face. "I'm sure there are other ways to handle this situation." Morgana's voice echoed as her heels clicked on the marble floor. She stood next to me with a hand on my shoulder, "You can have the alliance of our coven, forever. In return you'll keep our secret." "It's a no deal, Morgana." He said with a defiant look. "There has to be some middle ground." She argued back. The silence that followed her words was nerve-wracking. My heart pounded strongly in my chest, and I could barely stop my body from trembling. For some reason, I felt betrayal and disappoint
Cordelia Blackwell "Daniel, it has been a week! You can't tell me you have no clue where he is or what he's doing!" I exclaimed in fury, my anger burning bright and its flames heating my skin. I was currently in the Blood Moon Pack's mansion. Standing in their foyer, and hoping that Daniel would let any useful information slip. "We don't know where he is." He let out a sigh, "The entire pack is distressed. He came back that night, told me to manage the pack till he returns, I asked him where he was going, but he gave nothing away." "It's true." Sheila added in a sad tone. "The pack needs him now more than ever, I tried asking him what had happened." She shook her head, "Can you tell me what happened?" "No." I answered firmly, letting my glare drift to Daniel. "You tell me what happened during your visit to Jamestown. Everything changed after he came back." Daniel sighed, "Please have a seat." I raised an eyebrow, "I think the witch he met said something to him.""What witch?" …
Cordelia Blackwell “You have to come downstairs, love.” I heard Tom’s voice in the background of my mind. “We’re keeping her in the East Wing.” His hand touched my shoulder softly, “You’ve been cooped up in this room for three days now, Delia.” Three days? Is that how long it has been? It felt longer than that. “Fiona said she’ll only talk to you.” He urged me further, but it didn’t matter to me. Nothing matters with him not around. “Why should I care? Fiona and Debra can kill him for all I care.” I mumbled without averting my eyes from the sight of the afternoon’s sun through my window. Tom let out a soft breath, then sat on the edge of bed. “If only this was true.” He muttered softly. “This isn’t about Cadell, it’s about you. Fiona is your mother, a terrible one at that, but we need to know what she’s planning.” “Fine.” I agreed with a petulant huff. “I’ll meet you there.” Once Tom left, I took a shower and dressed to impress. Fiona has always been peculiar about the way I loo
Cordelia BlackwellCain marched towards us with a look of fury in his eyes. It shook me to my bones, and I instantly jolted away from Tom as if his mere closeness burned my skin. The feelings I had were confusing; they contradicted each other greatly. I was elated and relieved to see Cain with my own eyes safe and sound after being worried for so long. But at the same time, I found myself fearing what he would do. Thomas and Cain stood face to face staring at each other. It looked like each one was trying to prove he's the Alpha Male. "What do you think you're doing with my mate?" Cain gritted out. His voice remained low, but menacing and dangerous. "What you've been failing to do all along." Tom answered, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. I stood there, watching Cain taking a hold of Tom by the collar of his white shirt, baring his teeth at him. "Who do you think you are to touch my mate so freely?!" Cain all but growled at him. "I'm the one person who knows her
Cordelia Blackwell In the past two days, I’ve noticed that my strength was failing me. I have become weaker and weaker. The mark no longer burned, but my magic remained uncontrolled, and I remained tired most of the time.Tonight is the coven meeting, and I dreaded it tonight more than ever. I was sitting in the armchair in our parlor when I heard Morgana’s heels clicking on the marble floor. “Don’t worry. Everything will be fine.” “I wish I can have your confidence. I’m even more worried that we didn’t hear from Cain for the past two days.” I turned to her, “Do you think something happened to him?” “Cordelia.” She had this scolding tone. “We need to focus…” Before she could finish, there was a knock on the door. Maria went to open it, and to my surprise I found Thomas standing there in all his blonde glory and black trench coat. He looked more rugged than usual. “Oh my God, Thomas.” I said jumping off my chair and wrapping my arms around him.He stumbled back in surprise but let
Cain Cadell The metallic stench of blood overwhelmed my wolf senses and excited both of us into fighting more vigorously and strongly. The desire to hunt, chase, and kill rose within myself and increased my hunger for blood. I was clutching one of the wolves, from the rogue pack targeting my pack in Jamestown, between my teeth. The taste of his blood and the pounding of his fearful heart echoed through me and urged me to kill him. The more human side of myself told me that we needed him alive, that I needed to question him and know more about this small pack that seemed solely after me. But the thrill of the kill was hard to resist. I heard Daniel through the mind link, "Alpha, I think this one is willing to talk." No sooner had I heard the words than I tore into the neck of the wolf. My wolf ran to my beta, my paws padding on the dirt of the forest and when I got to him, I saw a naked woman who seemed about to take her last breath. Daniel's brown wolf stood over her body. Sh
Cordelia Blackwell "Does that mean I'm dying?" I asked, sounding nonchalant, but deep down I was absolutely and completely freaking out. "Not necessarily." Maria answered, then shared a look with Morgana. "Simply, we don't know the effect of a werewolf bite on a witch, now we're more concerned because your magic isn't…""Nature's Magic." I finished for her. Morgana nodded, "Perhaps it's better if you stay here for a couple of days. We'll ask around." "The Dorian's again? I'm sure Thomas is pretty fed up with us by now." I gave a small humorless chuckle. "He doesn't know anything about werewolves mating with witches." Morgana stated, "I asked him." She shook her head, "Just let me handle it." "You don't mind her staying here, right Alpha Cadell?" Maria inquired in her polite tone. When I turned to Cain he looked ashen pale. I was taken aback by how horrified he looked. "I'm going to Jamestown for a couple of days; it's safe for her to stay here. I'll let some of the guards from
Cordelia Blackwell We arrived at the restaurant, his hand was on the small of my back as we were led to our table. A red candle was lit in the middle of the table, the soft piano playing in the background, and the almost inaudible chatter of the other guests created a perfectly romantic environment. "There must be a pack out there that absolutely hates your guts, you know?" I whispered as I got to our table. It was a perfectly romantic environment, but we were talking about werewolves and witches and mayhem. What a waste! "There have been some rumors." He said, then turned to the waiter, "We'll have a bottle of your best champagne." He ordered then turned back to me. I smiled slightly, "Champagne? I see we're off on a good start." "I noticed you have a certain preference for it." You seem to be noticing a lot of things today. I really wanted to say that, but I held back. The waiter came with the bottle and poured some in each glass. "You said something about rumors?" I inquir
Cordelia Blackwell"That doesn't explain the spell that was casted on John Burke. I thought it was something your sister, Fiona Blackwell, created and didn't give to the public?" Daniel Braxton asked. Morgana nodded, her lips were in a thin line. "This is true, which puts the possibility that they're working together. I contacted an old friend." When she turned to look at me I formed a decent guess, which she confirmed when she said, "Thomas Dorian agreed to help us find Fiona. Hopefully he'll contact us with the good news soon." "Daniel, check with our men in the area and the nearby towns. They should look in every corner for Debra Gray and Fiona Blackwell." Cain ordered sharply, his jaw set tight. I opted for silence. I didn't pitch in an opinion or give a suggestion. They'd do fine on their own. Needless to say the entire evening was ruined for all of us. We didn't discuss the reasons behind Debra's attempts to hurt Cain; they were obvious as the daylight. I headed back to th
Cordelia BlackwellWhen we went downstairs, Cain didn't leave my hand. He had our fingers intertwined. And when we arrived at the parlor, he sat close to me, making sure that we were touching. For some reason, he felt like I was going to vanish into thin air or something. "I'm glad you're feeling better." Sheila said from next to Morgana. "Yes, Delia, we were very worried." James, Sheila's son, said from next to her. I smiled at both of them, "Thank you."My eyes drifted to Morgana, who looked at me with sad eyes, "You should have known better than to exhaust yourself like that. You stretched yourself thin." "Believe me when I say that I didn't have much of a choice." I retorted, "But there's a more pressing matter right now." "Cain told me about the Talisman." Morgana nodded, and I wondered when they became on a first name basis. "I want to find the magical signature on it." I told her, and she knitted her eyebrows together. "This won't be helpful unless we have something to c
