CHAPTER 6
After we are done eating and the waitress already came to pack up our plates, the sun was already setting and a lot of people were still outside, walking their dogs and shit."Before we leave I need to go use the toilet." I told Ivan as I stood up from my seat and then made my way into the toilet. I entered into one of the stalls, did my business and then flushed.I came out of the stall to meet another lady in the bathroom. "Hi." I greeted her."Hi." She smiled back at me.I was about to leave the bathroom when she asked me a question, "sorry, do you by chance have any tampon on you?""Oh yeah sure but I have to grab it out of my purse in the shop." I pointed back at the shop."Thank you." She sighed in relief, "you are a life saver."I quickly exited the bathroom and back to our table to grab the tampon. Ivan was on a phone call and he was whispering hushed oh but sounded angry. I lifted a questioning eyebrow May him but he waved me off. I grabbed my purse and went back into the bathroom.I rummaged through my purse, and then brought out the tampon and handed it to her."Thank you." She stated as she grabbed the tampon and went into one of the stalls.I was about to leave when her voice stopped me, "are you from around here?""Uh, no actually, just vacation.""Oh that's nice.""Yeah." I chuckled."There is a party, near here, it's a private beach house party type of thing. You should come." I heard her flush the toilet and then come out of the stall. She walked towards one of the tap, turned it one and washed her hands under the running waterI asked for the address of the beach house and surprisingly it was near where we were staying. "I'll make sure to come, thanks for the invite." Of course I'll have to ask Ivan to tag along, which he will but not before protesting."No problem. What's your name?""Idalia.""Ruth."And then we shook hands.•••Presently, we're both in the car, Ivan driving, one hand on my thigh while I sat down in the seat, looking straight ahead, arms crossed."I hate it when you're quiet.""Then, let's go to the party." I turned to look at him meeting his eyes as he glanced away, jaw tightened."For the fifteenth time Idalia, no."I exhaled exasperatedly, returning to my former position and staring straight ahead."What if something happens to you if I take my eyes off you for like a minute.""I do not need you to always be guarding me Ivan. I can take care of myself. Besides, the girl said it's just a small party."He sighed, "only because I hate it when you give me the silent treatment." He finally agreed, his hand squeezing my thigh while I grinned at him. It's already dark outside by the time we get to the address the girl, Ruth, provided for us, and loud music was blaring from the inside of the house, while some people could be seen loitering around the front of the house."We won't take long. Don't sulk." I said to Ivan as I held his hand in mine as we both walked to the front door. I opened the door, immediately met with blinding lights and loud music. We both tried to navigate our way into the less crowded part of the house, Ivan directing me with his hands on my waist.I found the bar and decided we could seat there. "Do you want anything to drink?" I asked him as I took my seat."Nah, I'm good.""I'll take two shots with lime." I grinned at the bartender telling him what I wanted while he winked at me and left to prepare my order."I'll gouge his eye out." Ivan muttered under his breath as he glared at the guy."Easy. I'm here with you aren't I?" I held his hand in mine as he shook his head. The bartender brought back my drink and was about to make a comment when Ivan glared at him before he scurried off to attend to someone else."You sure you don't want to take one shot?" I asked loudly over the music and he shook his head."Okayyy, suit yourself." And I downed both shots one after the other. I looked it ver to Ivan to see him already staring at me, a small smile on his face, shaking his head in amusement.I grab my phone and send a text to the girl to tell her we are here and her reply comes no longer than a minute later. Almost there. She replied.I put my phone inside my purse and glanced at Ivan, "let's dance." I stood up as I grabbed him from his seat.He grunted, "come on, don't be a big baby." I grinned as I pulled him all the way to the dance floor. In no time, I start moving my body to the music and I'm all over him while he just stands behind me, watching me intensely. After some minutes I look around and I saw the girl watching me a grin on her face as she gives me a thumbs up. I laughed and then grabbed Ivan's hand and then made our way to where she was."Hi!" I greeted. She stood up and then pulled me into a hug."Hi. So glad you could make it." She stated. We took our seats as she introduced the guy with her. "This is my boyfriend, Daniel. Daniel this is Idalia and her boyfriend.""Hi. It is nice to meet you." The boy gave a polite smile."Likewise.""I need to go and make a phone call outside, I'll be back soon okay?" Ivan whispered near my ears."Okay." And he left."Do you guys need anything to drink?" Her boyfriend asked both of them."I'll have what you're having." She told her boyfriend and he glanced at me, "water is fine. Thank you.""So are you guys like married or what?" She asks me, a smile on her face."Married?!" I ask incredulously, "no, we're far from that actually." I chuckle nervously as I gazed around the room, taking in everyone as they prounce around the room."So what's the deal with you two?""We're...friends. Sort of.""Yeahhhh no not possible.""What? Why not?""Firstly, it took you a while to come up with the word friends and secondly have you seen the way that man looks at you. Girl." She clicks her tongue against the roof of her mouth.I wanted to ask precisely what she meant by that but I held back, I did not want to get my hopes up about whatever it is she had to say. It would have been nice seeing them from someone else's point of view apart from her brother and her dad."We're not together together. You get what I mean?""Ohhhh so you guys are just what...fucking?"I blushed, "haven't gotten there yet."Her eyes widened, "so just kisses?""Amongst other things." I shrugged."Girl...." She trailed off as they buth burst out into laughter. It was nice having someone to talk to about boys apart from Gabriel. That skwang."So does he know?" She asked suddenly"Know what?"Her boyfriend came back with her drink and my water. I smiled at him as I grabbed the car and took a sip from my water."That you have feelings for him." She put her straw in her mouth and sipped from her drink, her eyes on mine, like she's dating me to lie about it."I-I haven't told him yet, but I will...soon.""You better. You're a badass." She praised me.Falling asleep on the couch was not what I had intended for but I awoke suddenly from the whirring noise of the elevator. I blinked rapidly to clear my vision from the sleep still clouding it as I picked up my phone to check the time, squinting my eyes at the brightness. 1:00am. That was an hour earlier thah Ivan said he was going to be back.I heard the ding sound of the elevator, making me jump from the couch and stand closer to the wall. I picked up my purse and brough out the little knife I had hiddden in there. The door to the elevator openjed and whoever it was stepped out, muttering a string of curses. I tried keeping my breathing under control and tried not breathing too loud. I thought Ivan said this place was safer than my place. The footsteps sounded closer every second and I tightened my hold on the knife. Immediately the intruder came into view, with their back facing me, I wrapped my arms around their neck, with the knife held tightly against their neck. "This is the s
As I'm already halfway into the box of pizza, my can of pepsi half full he comes down the living room wearing a black top and a black slacks. His hair looked wet, meaning he just came out of the shower. Images of him, his naked body in the shower flickered before me and I shook my head to clear myself of the images. Fucking hell. I looked away from him and then picked up another slice. He walked into the kitchen where I was, moving straight to the refrigerator and brought out a bowl and then placed it into the microwave. I know he doesn't eat pizza with mushroom toppings, because he's allergic but still I ask, just to fill the silence. "No pizza?" He glanced back at me, "you know I hate mushrooms." "Well you could have ordered some other type of toppings." "Would you have eaten it?" He asks as he rested against the kitchen slabs, his ankle crossing over the other and his arms across his chest. That...that was a picture of magnificence. I inhaled loudly, "no." I do not eat an
"Ladies let's welcome to the stage the almost newlywed couple." a voice from the stage rang out and people started clapping their hands as they made way for both myself and Ivan. He held my hand in his, I looked down at out intertwined hands and then at him, but he didn't glance at me, he was just looking straight ahead, towards the stage.Ivan gave a polite nod to the man that announced us as he left the stage. He was probably one of their made men. It would take time to get familiar with the new faces. And there were a lot of new faces. "Thank you everyone for coming to celebrate the announcement of our engagement here, today with us." he paused, looking around the room, "It is an honor to get married to a Bianchi, joining our families together through a marriage alliance which eventually brings both sides of our families together, the bratva and the Italians.""I know for generations our side has been at war with one another but then the war and the killings minimized as our last
I was not involved in any part of the arrangement of the engagement party. Not that I particularly care, but come on, I am the supposed bride to be. But I guess it does make sense since the aim is not actaully to celebrate the almost newly wed but to make new connection and alliances. Strong allainces.I had a call with Ivan yesterday night and he made certain talk about making sure whatever we do, the other families must think this is a match made from love, not a marriage alliance. I asked why but he would not spill and I left it at that. Now, deciciding what to wear this this...party was a hard decision to make. Ivan's mother suggested I wear white or any other colour similar to white. I do not own any white dress proper enough for a engagement party. To cut it short I don't own any white dress. White is the color of innocence and I am far from being innocent this time. So, I had to go shopping yesterday and I did come back with a few options but looking at them now, I do not thi
"Dad," I groaned as I out my phone to my ear, "you could have told me about the engagement party." I complained. Standing up from my chair, I grabbed my work laptop and then made my way out of my office since I was done for the day. "I was about to!" I heard his reply from over the phone, "I just did not want to spring it up on you like I did about the marriage." I sighed as I pressed the elevator button, the doors opening on command, "I guess that makes sense." I watched as the door to the elevator closed and then clicked the button for the lobby. "It does." I was quiet over the line as I watched the number from the elevator go down every few moments. "Are you still coming over for dinner like we talked about earlier?" He asks. "Yeah, on my way already. I was just leaving work." The elevator made a ding sound, followed by the opening of the doors and I then made my way out of it. I have the girl behind the counter in the lobby a smile before heading out of the building. "That'
I come out fresh out of the shower, a white towel wrapped around my body and another one wrapped on my head, to keep my wet hair from dripping around the floor. As I was about to start dressing up when my phone rang. I picked up my phone from my bed, checking the caller ID, Ivan. I sighed as I swiped my hands on the green answer button. "Hello?""I was thinking I should come pick you up from your dad's place and then we can go o the diner or wherever it is you feel comfortable." he suggested. "I have my own apartment now and there is no need for you to come pick me up. I am perfectly able to drive myself." I rolled my eyes, a frown marring my face as I put on my underwear.I heard him sigh over the phone, "you know that is not what I meant Idalia." There was a pause before he spoke up again, "you moved out?" he asked as if what I said earlier just clicked in his head.Or he's just trying to make a conversation. "Yes, I did." I replied to him as I walked towards my walk-in closet an
